[YEA] 07/27/2009: Kellysam from Nassau, Bahamas writes: "Hello, I have been suffering from GERDS on and off for most of my life, though i did not know it until recently, and more intensely so for the last three weeks. My problem was compounded by the fact that i had chronic sinus desease and sleep apnea to boot.I have always had these problems though occasionally and not all at the same time. When i started to experience these problems three weeks ago i was really scared,i saw a Pulmonologist and he refered me to a ENT and recommended a UPPP surgery.I went back to my family doctor, who discovered i had a sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics and anti inflammitory meds, they helped a little, though i still had problems sleeping, breathing and had a constant lump in my throat along with other annoying symptoms.Thats when i decided to do research on these symptoms and finally discovered i had GERDS.I was truely grateful to discover a home remedy that was guaranteed to work. I must admit i was really sceptical, but decided to buy a bottle of ACV, tried it last night and in less than 20 minutes i was the best i felt in weeks, i actually feel normal again and happy not to be popping pills. Thank you and to those who have not tried it believe me it works!"

[YEA] 07/10/2009: Nick from New York City, NY writes: "I am a 29 year old healthy adult who has been suffering from acid reflux for as long as I can remember. I have a healthy and active lifestyle and my diet is realtively good (no read meat and only moderate chicken). I have been taking Aciphex for about a year now and have been symptom free. However, I am fully aware of the negative side effects PPIs have on the body and was direly searching for an alternative, preferably a natural one. The other day I came across this website and decided to give apple cider vinegar a try. I didn't have too much hope as I have tried many natural home remedies in the past...all without much success. I started with 2 teaspoons of ACV in 8 oz of water with a spoonful of organic honey twice a day (once in the morning on an empty stomach, and once before bed). I was surprised at how potable the mixture was. I began the ACV and stopped taking the Aciphex on Monday morning. I am overjoyed that it is now Friday and I have zero symptoms of the reflux. Prior to this, if I ran out of my medicine, I would be in excrutiating pain within 48 hours. I wouldn't call myself sured yet (I am still nervous it is going to come back), but I am amazed and excited about the results thus far. Thank you everyone for the excellent (and hopefully life changing) recommendation!!!"

[YEA] 07/09/2009: Steve from Memphis, TN writes: "I'm not big on natural cures, but my acid reflux was so painful for about 3 years I was willing to try anything. I was in the habit of taking Pepsid Complete every night before bed and the drug worked fine. I had no problems if I took the pill. But I decided to see if there was another alternative ... so I decided two weeks ago to give ACV a shot.
This was a difficult step for me, because I have never gone to bed without the pepsid complete for the past 3 years. To my amazement the ACV works wonders. I have only had a couple of minor issues with acid reflux this past two weeks, and amazingly I have not had in trouble at night going to bed when the reflux would really attack. I take two teaspoons per 8 ounces of water 3 times a day ... and the acid reflux is getting even better. I haven't had any issues the past two days.
Thanks to all for the suggestions ... I can tell you it worked for me. I will now browse through this site and see what else I have been missing out on.
Steve"

07/03/2009: William from Seattle, WA writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar works for me. For a year I had been going to a doctor for my stomach problems, first acid reflux, and later, stomach pain, bloating, throwing up, not sleeping, and finally constipation. As some of you might guess, it was the PPI (little purple pill) that the doctor was prescribing. (to bad you were not my doctor!) We did all kinds of tests to try to figure out what was wrong with me but I was always told to keep taking my little purple friend. And true, I did not have acid reflux anymore, I was just miserable. My last exam, a lower GI let the doctor give me the good news, "I don't have cancer." He sent me home with saying, "We still don't know what the problem is." After another few weeks of throwing up my dinner and having trouble sleeping I started search the internet for others with similar problems. (I'm a little slow) Yes, it was the purple pill and those wonderful side effects the doctor doesn't mention. So I went off the pill and tried the apple cider vinegar. IT WORKS, YES IT DOES, IT WORKS. I take a teaspoon with 8 ounces of water and a little honey, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I have been taking it for two weeks and found it works great. I am amazed. I never take these kind of home remedies or organic solutions, but, it works and that's all I care. What have I learned? My doctor sells expensive tests and doesn't listen and I need to take control of my health care. Bill"

06/03/2009: Tallie from Toronto, Ontario Canada writes: "I have been reading the posts here but still feel confused about using ACV for Acid Reflux. I have been on Prevacid for a month, and the doc says he thinks I have a hiatal hernia as well. I didn't feel much better on Prevacid and wanted something that I could afford and would be natural. I have tried the ACV: 1 to 2 tbsp in either 4 or 8 oz water, with 1/4 tsp baking soda. The first time I tried just 1 tsp ACV with 1 tsp honey in 8 oz warm water. That seemed to ease my stomach, so I thought I'd try the standard recipe listed on this site. At first it seemed to make me feel better, but right now I feel a fullness in my stomach. How long does this treatment take before one feels better? Should I take it and then wait a while before I eat? I am also concerned about the baking soda with regards to elevating one's blood pressure. Should I switch to a sodium free baking soda? I've seen there is another option using lemon juice, and wonder if that would be better. I am miserable with this acid reflux and desperately want a natural way to cure it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you."
06/04/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, California replies: "Dear Tallie: I would skip the baking soda altogether. Most people on this site have had success with acv alone. The baking soda is high in sodium and will elevate your blood pressure. It will also cause people sensitive to sodium to become bloated, especially in the abdomen. I didn't need two tablespoons of acv, I only used one and a half teaspoons diluted with about six to eight ounces of water. It is important to use enough water so that the acv doesn't burn your throat. If you use this ratio you won't even need honey which is terrible for your teeth and gums, and the plaque it causes is sticky therefore promotes more tooth decay than sugar. One last thing, it must be an organic unfiltered acv. These have important enzymes and vitamins and minerals that filtered acv has been stripped of. I would still be using this method but the acv makes me hypersalivat. So sadly, I can't use it even though it works beautifully otherwise. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Angie"
06/05/2009: Tallie from Toronto, Ontario Canada replies: "Thanks for the feedback Angie. I've tried with and without baking soda. I still don't really feel all that better. I feel a fullness in my stomach most of the time. Maybe it's just that I haven't found the right combination. How long does this take to work? Today I used just 1 tsp vinegar in 8 oz water, with half a tsp honey to make it palatable. I know I need to lose more weight but it's not going to happen overnight. Am I being too impatient?"
06/05/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, California replies: "Dear Tallie: I'm sorry the teaspoon didn't work for you. A teaspoon didn't work for me either though. I needed a teaspoon and a half. I would urge you to try without honey though. The honey might be contributing to the feeling of fullness. Also, in case you are bloated you could use just five ounces of water to one and a half teaspoons acv, that is what I did and it tasted fine. Very cleansing taste actually. BTW: It would be good if you tried watching your sodium intake for a day or so to see if you are feeling full with food or just bloated. Also, for constipation magnesium works really well for me. It's good to take it with calcium for your bones. I also take B-6 for bloating along with limiting my sodium and exercising. You could also check out the bloating and constipation sections of the earth clinic website if these remedies don't help. I should say that if you have a hiatial hernia your acid reflux might be harder to treat than others but I think I might have read people on this board with hiatial hernias say that the acv helped even them. Best of luck, Angie"
01/31/2010: Pam from Thunder Bay, Ontario replies: "I am grateful to know i'm not alone. 2 docs said my mucous in my throat is allergies.. i did my own research and discovered gerd. my response to stomach bloating though is get checked for h pylori.. the bacteria that causes ulcers. i had that 9 years ago... took 2 years to diagnose.. docs were starting to think it was in my head.. anyway you may have it. i believe that that may be the source of my problems now. as for acv..i used it for3 years at one point for general health and it workrd wonders. i think i will get some today."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 06/03/2009: Wanda from Ruckersville, VA writes: "My insurance company will no longer pay for my Aciphex which is terrible because I have extreme acid reflux. My throat got raw plus I was unable to sleep. The ACV after 1 week seems to help some as long as I eat an apple before I go to bed and take 2 tums. I do have a questions though-why am I so tired now. It seems that each day I get extremely tired and I'm very restless at night. It's almost like I've run 10 miles even thought I have a desk job. Does anyone have an answer or a remedy. Could it be that I'm going thru detox?"

05/24/2009: Eric M. from Port Orange, FL. writes: "I am 27 years old and have suffered with severe acid reflux since I was 17 years old. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia after an endoscopy. I have been on about every type of medication known to man. My current meds were 1-Prilosec a day, then 1 to 3 Zantac 150's a day. I work in the medical field as an Emergency Dept. Tech. and my father is a doctor. I never heard about the Apple Cider Vinegar acid reflux cure until I happened to stumble across this website. WOW, WHAT A MIRACLE!!! I never thought I would find something to make the acid reflux pain go away. Thank you Earth Clinic and everyone who recommended this cure. I have only been on it for 4 days, but those four days have been life changing. I take 1 to 1 1/2 tbl. spoons with 8 oz. of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have not had acid reflux since."
01/22/2010: Natalie from Centereach, Ny replies: "hi there
how long did it take you before you stopped taking your medication? did you take the medication while doing the apple cider vinager or did you stop and then do the apple cider vinager? i am currently on nexium. i have a small sliding hiatel hernia and this caused my acid reflux. i try to miss a dose like every other day. but i get the mucus in the back of my throat. i just tried the apple cider vinager today and tomorrow im not going to take my pill and see what happens."
[YEA] 01/22/2010: Nitzp from San Jose, Ca replies: "I had acid reflux and pains in the stomach after I took naproxene for my shoulder pains. The doctor prescribed zantac and I was on it for several days without any improvements. All of a sudden I remembered what I read in this site about acv. I stopped my xantac and took acv (2tbs in 8 ox of water. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda for better taste.) The result was immediate. The reflux and pains were gone. I now religiously take the acv at night for many of my illness - high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes."

[YEA] 05/21/2009: Julie from Hemet, CA writes: "I am amazed at what I am reading. I have been the ACV Queen for 15 - 20 years! My doctor told me that I contributed to my Gerd by taking the ACV. He also told me not to eat apples. He put me on 20mg of Prilosec Jan. 2009 and I have changed my diet to the point that I am afraid to eat anything and what I do eat has no flavor. I just started to take an additional pill in the late afternoon. I am in shock over what I am reading. I even requested a homeopathic doctor and he looked at me like I was stupid! I drank 8oz.water with 1-2 tsp. ORGANIC ACV with or without the honey. There were many times that I did not drink it daily. I believe in ACV more than I believe in the doctors! But I experience such great pain when having an attack that I am afraid to try the ACV for my Gerd. My pains are also in my back, neck and chest and last up to 4 hours without relief. Similar to heart attack symptoms. ORGANIC ACV to me is the answer for most everything. Have any of you mentioned the positive response to your doctor? And if so, what they had to say re: ACV? Usually I am the one convincing everyone else the amazing benefits of ACV. I guess I am just really hoping to clear this up? Anyone - please, I am so against Meds. and I miss my ACV."
05/22/2009: G from High Point, NC replies: "Julie, forget the Dr's and trust what WORKS. If ACV has worked for you in the past then continue using it. After I was diagnosed with GERD I tried 5 different prescription PPI's and they were all like poison to my body. Within 10 days of using ACV I was pretty much cured. I couldn't freakin' believe it! That was well over a yr ago and now I use the ACV only once every 2-3 days. I also have Barrett's Esophagus (from the GERD is what my Dr. told me) and when I went for an EGD 3 months ago the Dr. couldn't believe that the Barrett's had regressed big time and what he called "a remarkable turnaround".
Do what works, not as you're told. Try increasing the amount of water you take with each dose of ACV.

05/23/2009: Lenore from Chicago, Illinois replies: "Slippery elm bark cured my acid refux. You can buy slippery elm bark powder in most health food stores. I found out about it while researching for a cure for acid reflux, made the tea by adding 1 heaping tablespoon to one pint of boiling water- let steep one hour then simmer a few minutes - strain( or not) and drink. Prior to this I took tums, prisolec and other otc and prescription meds to no avail. After using this remedy I have no more trouble, I was also informed that tums and other drugs taken over the long haul begin to cause the problem they were originally meant to cure. I had acid refux so bad it burnt my throat and I had to try to sleep while sitting up. Amazingly I only had to take it 2x in a whole year and otherwise have not even modified my diet at all. Slippery elm bark is also very nourishing and is said to heal anything it comes into contact with."
10/06/2009: Mary from Alameda, California replies: "Julie, your symptoms are those described as side effects on meds such as aciphex. I have GERD and have taken aciphex for years. I recently was told by my Dr. to double the dosage. I have started getting hives, rash, and itching. I looked these up and discovered that I probably am getting an allergic reaction to the aciphex. I have stopped taking it. While doing my research, your symptoms kept coming up as side effects by many people who were taking meds for acid reflux. Google side affects for whatever meds your taking. I don't know what website had all the comments by people who had side affects that doctors were saying they could'nt get. Yet, the number of people speaks for themselves. Good luck, Mary"

[YEA] 04/16/2009: Rob from Portland, Oregon writes: "I was on PPIs (gastritis) for around 10 years. I've taken them all. Decided to give the ACV a try to get off of Nexium. I'll be a monkey's uncle, this is the 4th day off and I feel OK. The second day rebound was hell but a little zantac quelled it. The main thing is this acv keep the acid from splashing back up. I don't know/care why it works but it does (at least with me.) I take a tablespoon 3x daily with 8 oz water. It took me about 2 weeks to work up to this level. I started off slowly and a very weak solution (around 1 teaspoon a day with a lot of water.) Too much would make me nauseous. It may be too early to tell if this is a long term fix, but going off Nexium was unthinkable a month ago. My inner alarm clock keeps reminding me to take my purple pill, but I don't need to! I am a little pissed at my doctors and drug industry at this point. All that $$, all that misery could have been avoided by drinking a little vinegar? Wow!"
[YEA] 04/21/2009: MK from Washington, DC replies: "Hang in there Rob. I have a similar story, (see below) and have been using the ACV since the beginning of March. I'm happy to report that I am doing great. It takes awhile to figure out how much and how often you need it and it can vary depending on what you eat and how much. The best part is like you said, the acid no longer comes up into your esophagus/throat. I'm even able to tolerate an occasional glass of wine now. I have been drug free for almost 2 months and I too am angry that in 15 years of seeing GI specialists, not 1 suggested that I might not be producing enough acid. I don't care if I see another GI doctor as long as I live. They are all in bed with the drug companies."

[YEA] 04/14/2009: Shelley from Sykesville, MD writes: "I wish this website was posted in every doctor's office! I was absolutely miserable with this stupid GERD, and the medication the doctor prescribed made my Restless Leg Syndrome worse. It was a toss-up...RLS so bad I couldn't sleep or GERD so bad I couldn't sleep. I am so glad that I kept looking online and found this remedy. As soon as I read down the page of positive responses, I climbed back in my car, even though I just came home from the store. I grabbed two different kinds of Apple Cider Vinegar and rushed home. I put two tablespoons each of ACV and honey into water and drank it as fast as I could. Well, I won't do that again. I thought it was going to come right back up. However, it seemed to relieve the symptoms, so I was more than willing to give it another try, with different proportions. Now I take 1/2 cup of warm water, mix in an overflowing teaspoon of ACV and a teaspoon of honey. The honey melts quickly in the warm water, and it seems to be enough ACV to do the trick! This is the second day, and I did three treatments; one before I ate breakfast, one in the afternoon, and one right before bed. My throat is feeling normal for the first time in two weeks, and I can swallow normally as well. I am still taking 300 mg. of Zantac twice a day, but this offers much more relief immediately. I don't want to stop the Zantac for fear it will make the GERD come back, so I'll do both for right now. I highly recommend trying this if you have GERD."
01/07/2010: Chuck from Chicago, Il replies: "I just started taking apple cider vinegar before dinner last night (1/6/10). I am still taking my Prilosec like the doctor ordered even though it wasn't working. I will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for the information everyone."

[YEA] 03/24/2009: Noel from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada writes: "I've been suffering from acid reflux and heartburns everyday for 4 months. My Dr. prescribed me prevacid then librax but none of them help. I purchased a Acid Reflux Report over the internet and ACV is one of the cures from acid reflux. It doesn't make sense since ACV is already acid. I went to the nutrition store and hesitantly purchased ACV. I followed the instructions... to make the story short, acid reflux is gone and I just hope it's all the way through. ACV will now be part of my diet."

[YEA] 03/22/2009: Noelle from Tampa, FL writes: "ACV cured my acid reflux (and made me smell like roses!) ok, maybe not roses, but it definitely stopped any sort of bacterial growth that caused my body odor.
i take acv orally, 2 tablespoons per glass of water, every morning and two hours before bed. i was diagnosed with acid reflux at 12 and took pills off and on but i feel so free. Apple Cider Vinegar freed me naturally!
I also keep the acv in the shower and before i turn on the water i put some music on, pour the acv all over my body (i pour a little in my hand and then rub on my body), dance around for 2 minutes and then spend my shower rinsing, NO SOAP!. after the vinegar smell goes away i towel off and go about my business. every deodorant ive ever tried has let me down, time and time again, but this stuff-i love it! i ride my bicycle 10 miles a day commuting and i sniff and sniff and check and check and nothing-no smell at all, its a beautiful thing. i want to shout from the rooftops! These pharmaceutical companys tell us that we have to use their products, their chemicals- and we dont! we just need to go back to nature."

After suffering from acid reflux for many years, I came across this ACV remedy that brought a big change to my life. I was just wondering if this remedy can also be used during pregnancy? I'm currently taking 2 - 3 Tbsp at every onset of symptoms and then go to bed and sleep like a baby...thank you very much."
EC: Yes, apple cider vinegar can be used during pregnancy. Please read the response from John Westerdahl here: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/nursing_issues.html#ACV

[YEA] 03/15/2009: Lita from Tampa, FL writes: "i am 58 in good health taking no prescription medications and experienced a sour stomach, queasiness, and nausea a couple nights ago about 18 hours after eating dinner the night before. i almost vomited and did not because i was swallowing to avoid it. i could taste the acid in my throat and had the upset stomach for about 5 hours and could not sleep half the night. when i felt well enough, i went online to see what may have caused the sour stomach and came to my conclusion upon reading about tophology (combining foods) that i was mixing fatty steak with salad with too acidic a dressing. i read the reasoning behind this inefficent digestion is caused by hydrochloric acid released by the stomach to digest the fatty steak was counteracted by the alkaline stomach reaction of the stomach to digest the acidic dressing cancelling the digestive action of the stomach, causing the sour stomach. i always thought i pretty much had an iron gut since i do not even get gas from 'gaseous causing foods', but attributed it to getting older. So today, i practised eating small quantities of food in single food categories, ie fruit, vegetables, bread and not mixing. the last thing i ate was a grilled ciabatta roll, which is not even an acid reflux causing food, but i actually got that lump in the throat feeling, and then a bit of acid taste! so then i go back on line to research a natural remedy for acid reflux and came upon this site about apple cider vinegar and off i went to the grocery store. upon returning, i immediately drank a mixture of 1 tbs acv, 1tbs honey, and 8z water and was 90 percent relieved in about 15 minutes. in about an hour, all signs of acid taste were gone and i ate dinner of a salad made with olive oil and acv dressing and spareribs, a similar dinner to what caused my sour stomach in the first place with the exception of using the apple cider vinegar in the dressing instead of balsamic, and i feel great. thanks for the remedy that really worked for me. i guess i will see if i need to take it as a precautionary measure or as a remedy, but at least i will know that it works. thanks a million for this website!"

[YEA] 03/14/2009: Sherri from Los Angeles, California writes: "I suffered with severe acid reflux for several years, waking up from a sound sleep due to choking on acid in my throat! I used tagamet, tums, and Nexium. I came across a home remedy site and found out that using acv helped a lot of people. I bought some raw organic acv at the health food store and put a tablespoon in 8 ounces of water and added a tablespoon of honey and drank it. I couldn't believe that the heartburn and acid reflux just disappeared within 10 minutes after the very first drink. Not wanting the calories of the honey on a regular basis, I now leave the honey out and drink the vinegar & water through a straw to avoid getting it on my teeth. I don't understand why doctors don't suggest using acv instead of Nexium. As long as I drink the mixture twice daily, I have no problems at all and can eat anything I want. If I eat something that I know used to trigger the reflux (like chocolate or something fatty), I sometimes drink a little acv/water right after eating. This has been such a relief for me."

[QUESTION] 03/10/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, CA writes: "Dear ACV - Reflux fans:I would really appreciate some feedback!! I've had terrible LPR for two years. I got to the point where I had to take four prilosecs a day while abstaining from all acidic foods, caffeine, and fat. Still I had a terrible time swallowing and felt like I had a lump in my throat. The worst part was the constant need to swallow. It was embarrassing, people would ask me why I kept swallowing every two seconds.
After reading so many testimonials on this website I was ready to give it a try. All I had in the house was Trader Joes Organic ACV. I took 1 1/2 tsp in about 6 oz of water and it cleared up the lump in my throat and let me sleep that night without taking my usual two prilosecs. And I slept comfortably. The next morning I took 2 tsp. Interestingly, I tested my urine with PH strips before and after both times and both times, remarkably showed that I was off the charts alkaline compared to acidic before taking ACV. Anyway, that day my lump in throat was good but I had the worst case of hypersalivation I ever had. Was it because I was nervous about the ACV? Was I not drinking enough ACV or does the ACV only become alkaline in your bowels but acidic in your esophagus? If anyone can answer this I would love to hear. Also, I just bought Braggs this morning so if I tried it again I would use that instead.
Recently I started taking 60 mg of time released Prevacid, called, " Kapidex". It has been a week and it keeps the acid from backing up into my throat when I lie down but doesn't do anything for the lump in my throat and I'm starting to hypersalivate again though not as badly as when I was taking ACV. I'm going to get scoped in about a month and not sure if I should stay with Kapidex for a little while just to heal my esophagus or if I should return to ACV. And if so, at what dose.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my entry. Sincerely, Angie"
03/13/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, CA replies: "Hi All: This is Angie again. I wanted to update you all on my experience with ACV. While it did really help me, it seemed to make my hypersalivation much worse. I just read in a book about ACV by Cynthia Holzapfel that it is known for increasing the flow of saliva. I also read someone else on this board had the same experience. So, I've been taking 2 oz's of Aloe Juice two times a day for the past few days instead. It seems to help with the lump in my throat without making me hypersalivate. However, it isn't as effective as the ACV at preventing back flow when I lie down. But I just got a very slight amount of backflow. Maybe I need to increase the amount I'm taking. It also seems to give me more gas than usual, but I can live with this. I will keep it up and see if things improve. If they do I will post on the Aloe section. Good luck and good health to all of you. Sincerely, Angie"
05/20/2009: Jim from Pleasanton, CA replies: "Hi Angie,
I just read your question (posted some time ago). The acidity in your stomach has little to do with the acidity in other parts of your body. Normally, if things are working correctly, the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid and when this mixes with food and moves into the first part of the small intestine, it is neutralized by sodium bicarbonate that is secreted into the small intestine from the pancreas. Thus, the nutrients you absorb into your blood from the small intestine are not acidic. Throughout your body, though, there are many processes that produce acidic substances. One of the major contributors to this is the normal breakdown of food (usually glucose) to obtain energy. The food is broken down to carbon dioxide and water. The carbon dioxide then combines with water to form carbonic acid, one of the major contributors to acidity in internal body fluids such as the blood. The kidneys filter blood and remove metabolic waste products and adjust acidity of the blood by moving acid into the urine. If your urine is alkaline, that is not related to the acidity of the stomach."
06/04/2009: Angie from South Pasadena, California replies: "Thanks for your insight Jim. That was interesting. It doesn't explain why the test was more acidic right before I drank the acv and alkaline right after every time I did the test though. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. All the best. Sincerely, Angie"

[YEA] 03/10/2009: Juli from Philadelphia, PA USA writes: "I used 2 tsp ACV in 8 oz water 2x/day (I'm small, around 105 pounds), to treat GERD. I used Eden's Organics unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.
After almost one bottle's worth of this, I no longer need it. So far, it has been 2 weeks with no problems.
I did a number of things though...I took GNC's probiotics (39.99) twice a day for a while before meals, ACV twice a day, and chewed on papaya enzyme tabs during the day.
I found this website, was so skeptical, but let me tell you..try it. Also, for a professor who is around really sick kids all the time, I didn't get sick this semester for the first time in years.
The Apple Cider Vinegar got me off of the Protonix my doc was giving me, and took a week to noticeably help...but now, I'm medication free.
Thank you earthclinic and all the people who post here!"

I would just like to say to those wanting to give up, DON'T!
I was not feeling too much better @ first, but gave it some time. The ACV has helped so much, that I haven't taken any meds in over 3 months! I was taking two Prevacids a day before for my Gerds. When you get good results, spread the good news so others can enjoy the benefits as well.

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/08/2009: Richard from Bishops Stortford, Herts UK writes: "I have just started to use ACV, and the early signs seem good (2TBS 8oz). However, it is early days yet, so I am not counting my chickens yet. I have long history of GERD, and have been diagnosed with a Granuloma, on my vocal chords. At the same time this arrived a weird itching sensation arrived too. Usually at the base of my neck, but also in my cheeks top of chest, and sometimes on my tummy. It is not like a normal itch, it feels like something is movin in my skin, and it goes red too. Could this be part of the effects of the acid? Or is this something else? Any advice gratefully received."

[YEA] 03/03/2009: MK from Washington, DC writes: "I have been on some type of GERD prescription for at least 10 years. I was getting desperate because I haven't been able to sleep through the night lately, even with maximum stomach meds. So I started doing some research online and found out about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). My Chiropractor mentioned it before, but I never tried it. Well, I've been off my Protonix/Zantac for 5 days. And it's even better than the medicine because since I've been using the ACV, when I lay down I don't feel stuff come up into my esophagus. I'm still playing with the ACV dosage and the timing, but I'm so much better already and sleeping better, WITHOUT the drugs. I take 2 teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water at mealtime 3 times a day and 1 teaspoon before bed. If I wake up in the middle of the night with any heartburn, I eat 1 or 2 apple slices and it stops it right away and keeps it from coming back up better than the drugs. It is amazing!!!!!!!!!!"

[YEA] 03/01/2009: Martha from Orange, Texas writes: "Hiatal Hernia & Acid Reflux: While pregnant with my 2nd daughter I got heartburn with everything I ate and was drinking a bottle of Maalox a day. After she was born it got a little better, but then worse again until everything including water gave me heartburn. Also I began to have reflux while sleeping and I would wake up after breathing the acid into my lungs. I was pretty scared to sleep lying down so I started sleeping at a 45 degree angle to prevent that from happening again.
I started xray school right after my daughter was born and during the 1st semester of training I saw all these people having Upper GI tests and were prescribed medications but people kept coming back because the meds weren't helping and that's when I decided to look for a solution naturally. I was told if you took a tablespoon of ACV when you had heartburn and the heartburn went away then you needed MORE acid and not less and the pills the docs were giving people STOPPED the production of acid, but you need that acid to help digest your food. I also assummed I had a hiatal hernia because sometimes my food felt like it didn't want to go down and stayed in my throat. After learning about the ACV treatment I did that for about 3 months. It was hard to drink it everyday but I did. I also cut out sodas, sweet tea, and tomato products as these things caused severe heartburn. I kept searching and talking to people and found a company that made food enzymes. I switched to food enzymes for about a year. My hiatal hernia and heartburn went away and I started sleeping flat again. That was in 1995 and I haven't had the problem again. I've told lots of people to try the ACV or food enzymes because I now know for sure that the meds people are put on are not the solution - oh I know it fixes some for a while but then the body is unable to get the vitamins from the foods they are eating and they come back to the hospital for a CAT SCAN to see what problem they have now. Since I work in a hospital and see the day to day problems that people have due to medication or Drs. who are simply overworked and most know nothing about nutrition, I go the natural way for everything. This is a great website and at least when people are searching for a solution they will try it, but I find that people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them a simple solution to their problem, especially if it is going to mean they can't just take a pill and the problem goes away."
05/29/2009: Tallie from Toronto, Ontario replies: "I am interested in this "cure" as I'm suffering from reflux and the doc says I may have a hiatal hernia. I don't trust doctors anymore after my mother died as a result of a doctor's mistake during her gallbladder surgery, so I am very hesitant to have the hernia removed.
I started researching alternatives to the meds my doc wants me to take for Acid Reflux, and found this site and the ACV. Has anyone any idea about long-term usage of ACV? Can it have any side-effects like stomach ulcers?
Also, once on the ACV, have people found they can eat foods that would normally be forbidden to them, like tomato? The health values of tomatoes are such that I really want to be able to eat them, but right now I am having to avoid them.
I will certainly try this ACV and hope it solves my problems. I'm not fond of taking meds of any kind and a healthy solutions is certainly welcome. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences."
