HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

22 YEA
1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

1 SIDE EFFECT

[YEA]  07/17/2007: Barbara from Charleston , WV writes: "A science teacher recommended this to me years ago and I've been doing it ever since. Hydrogen Peroxide is a great mouthwash. It kills the bacteria in your mouth which the cause of bad breath. Also brightens your teeth a bit. I take a swig of 3%, swirl it around my mouth for a min or so, spit it out and wallah, breath is fresh."

03/22/2009: Vance MacThamhais from Lugano, Switzerland replies: "Oil pulling with one tablespoon of sesame oil, coconut oil , or rice bran oil. swish and pull one tablespoon of oil for 15-20 min. and spit out the oil. It should be a whiteish foam after 15-20 min of pulling.

This will help with all kinds of infections. It will help dotoxify the entire body. "

[YEA]  05/27/2007: Edith from Elizabeth, NJ writes: "Have you ever known somebody with bad breath? Here is the cure.

1-Do gargles with hydrogen peroxide. All the bacteria accumulated by years will be killed and your breath will be as fresh as it can be.

2-Do the same once a week or maybe once a month. If you still have any problem, that I doubt it, probiotics will be the solution for getting rid of bad breath if it is accompanied by body odor.

But the first step is the gargles."

[YEA]  02/04/2007: Joe from Somerville, NJ writes: "I've used hydrogen peroxide, 3% pharmacy grade cut 50% with water, to rinse my mouth before brushing, which has been a great help with eliminating bad breath and plaque. But here's a remedy that no one may have thought - a treatment for "tinea cruris" commonly known as jock itch. I had an issue with this for several months and during this period, several times a week, I used Curex and other over-the-counter options to eliminate it, spending $20.00 to $30.00 to no avail. I knew hydrogen peroxide was effective in killing bacteria, so, as a last resort, I cut the pharamcy 3% grade 50%, just like the mouth wash, and used it-in 2 days!!! the itch and soreness was gone! No joke. Total cost 20 cents!"

[YEA]  12/14/2006: Cecelia from NY writes: "I have always used natural remedies to cure my ills or take care of my skin, and when a cousin of mine became ill with liver cancer I started searching the internet frantically (that's how I came across this site) for a way to help him get rid of the toxins in his body, but it was too far gone. He died one month after being diagnosed with the cancer. A few months ago I started dating a gentleman, who is a great guy but he had bad breath, he brushed and gargled Listerine which didn't help, but masked the bad breath for a few minutes. Since it was his breath, and not his personality that was bad, I bought a bottle of hydrogen peroxide for him to brush his teeth and tongue with and also gargle. The next time we went out the bad breath was gone and he said he can tell the difference. I don't know what he had or what happened scientifically but the hydrogen peroxide worked."

[YEA]  11/13/2006: Sabrina from Albany, NY writes: "I started using hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water....Rinse mouth with the solution and let stand for 2-3 mins, if you look into your mouth you can see the peroxide solution working in between teeth and under the gum line. rinse well after 2-3 min and brush teeth as usual. If you use this solution at night you will notice a lack of morning breath in the am.....The peroxide kills the bacteria that causes bad breath....last but not least...peroxide is cheap!!"

[YEA]  09/26/2006: Sach from Stockton writes: "3% hydrogen peroxide cures halitosis, instantly. Excellent remedy for halitosis or sulphur smell when some one sneezes. This is not the masking agent like mouth freshener but it takes care of the problem and whitens the teeth."

[YEA]  09/11/2006: Carey from Springfield, IL writes: "I have battled bad breath ever since I gave birth to my first born three years ago. When I had my second child, the smell got even worse. Almost smelled like a "toot"/fart, whatever, it was gross. I tried everything, but THE ONLY thing that has worked for me is gargling w/ hydrogen peroxide. I bought the regular 3% from the drug store and gargle w/ it in the mornings and evenings. The taste is gross, and it leaves a film in your mouth that takes about 5 minutes to disappear, but it's well worth it. After I gargle (20-30 secs. is all I can stand) I immediately use a tongue scraper 5 or 6 times. Make sure you scrape as far back on your tongue as you can and don't eat or drink for 15 minutes afterwards. It's cool b/c once you start to gargle, you can actually feel the hydrogen tingling on your tongue like it's fighting the bacteria. As an added bonus, my teeth are whiter, and my gums and tongue are a healthy pink color. I love this stuff, and at $.99 cents for a bottle, how can you go wrong?!"

06/02/2008: Dee from Windhoek, Katutura, Namibia replies: "I have read all the articles of all those people who have used hydrogen peroxide and it worked, my fear is that it might be harmful if taken undilluted, can you please give me the exact measurement to use when I gargle, or should I use straight HP, please help me get rid of my horrible breath..."

02/09/2010: Jennifer from Dallas, Tx replies: "Carey, about the taste - go to a local health food store or market and ask for a bottle of peppermint oil (spearmint and vanilla work too) and add a 1 tablespoon in an 8 ounce bottle of peroxide 3% for minty taste (no sugar so it won't be sweet) but it won't have that awful peroxide taste either. Leaves you mouth minty fresh.

Also, Dee, Dilute 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. I use two capfuls of HP and two capfuls of water. FYI"

02/09/2010: Jennifer from Dallas, Tx replies: "Correction: regarding amount of peppermint oil used in HP. Originally, i said 1 tsp for 8 oz bottle - not what I meant this was TOO much peppermint and too HOT! (Felt like it burned my tongue!) Try using only 1/4th (few drops) tsp per 8 oz then add more as you adjust to it."

[YEA]  08/16/2006: Andreinne from Fairfax, VA writes: "I started putting HP on my tongue and letting it sit there without swallowing it for 5 minutes. (before I put the HP on i brushed and flossed my teeth first thing in the morning). After the five minutes were up, my tongue was thick and gooey with bacteria. After that I scraped my tongue with a spoon. It was gross but my gums no longer bled when I brush them and also my energy levels are up!"

[YEA]  07/28/2006: Noel from New Jersey writes: "After reading that Hydrogen peroxide kills breath odor. I decided to do some reasearch before I tried it. I found a great website that talks about hydrogen peroxide http://www.dancingalgae.com/hydrogenperoxide.html. What I was basically trying to find was information that would convince me that peroxide wasn't going to poison me. Well I was convinced and decided to try. I've been rinsing my mouth with diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide for the past 3 days and it worked...I had horrible bad breath it was horrible but now it's gone. I'm even having my boyfriend do the same. I'm so happy I tried this. I highly recommend it!!!!!"

05/23/2009: Bella from Bellflower, CA, USA replies: "I suffered from halitosis for many years. It is embarrassing. When I talk to people they keep a distance or cover their nose when I get close. This is my second day of trying the hydrogen peroxide. I hope it will work. I have faith. Thank you for this website."

[YEA]  06/20/2006: Nature Lover from Grand Rapids, MI writes: "I had a problem of Bad breath for many years now. I had mints all over the place to make sure I had them all the time. I brushed my teeth after every meal and yet within an hour the bad breath was back. Then I came across Sharon's advice last week. Tried it and it WORKED!!! No bad breath from then on. Amazing! I rinsed my mouth in ordinary peroxide for about 2 minutes. Yes, my tongue was a bit sore. I rinsed after lunch and didn't have dinner-- I wasn't hungry, just so very happy. Next day my tongue was back to normal. Thank you very much, Sharon! It has changed my life. A question: Do you think it is okay to have a quick peroxide rinse everyday morning? Does it harm the teeth enamel in any way?"

EC: We read somewhere on the internet a few months ago that hydrogen peroxide can potentially wear down dental fillings, but is fine for dental enamel (it's what they use in teeth whitening formulas). We rinse with it every few days and have NOT noticed any fillings deteriorate!

[YEA]  12/15/2005: Sharon from NYC writes: "My boyfriend started using pysillium husks a few weeks ago to cleanse his intestinal tract. He felt great, but my God! his breath became so foul!! After a few days of being polite, I finally figured that I needed to say something and help him find a cure. I figured it had to have been caused by a change in his intestinal flora from the pysllium. The change must have caused severe candida overgrowth. His tongue was coated in white -- a sure sign. I had him take a few capsules of ParaGone (it was what was leftover in my medicine cabinet) to start to kill off the candida. That seemed to help, but didn't completely stop the halitosis. This is going to sound gross, but I made him open his mouth to detect whether the stench was coming from his breath, or from his teeth. I have particularly good smell and pinpointed that the smell was coming from the upper right side of his mouth! Well, after that I had him soak his mouth in straight hydrogen peroxide for about 3 minutes. Once it foamed up, I had him to it again. That was the cure! No more bad breath! The peroxide did make his tongue sensitive for a few days, so I would suggest to anyone trying this that they dilute the peroxide in water. I think that bad breath is often a sign of candida or yeast overgrowth so killing it in the mouth with peroxide AND taking some kind of candida cleanse is the answer. One more note: I read on the internet that it can take up to 3 weeks to cure bad breath. Well, this took a few minutes with the peroxide. Don't believe what you read! Hope this helps some of your readers. Thanks."

[YEA]  Sharon from Branson, MO writes: "Just a note to the readers and especially to Sharon from NYC. One thing that psyllium does so very well is clean out the bowell. In doing this it also cleans out toxins that have been stored in all those little folds of your intestines. The coating on your boyfriend's tongue was more likely just a sign that his body was releasing toxins and not a sign of candida overgrowth. Bad breath can also a sign of toxins being released. They have to come out somehow. Drinking more water sometimes helps. I am glad to know about the peroxide mouth wash although I don't think it would be good to do very often. BTW, Psyllium promotes growth of good bacteria for the stomach & intestines. Another reason a Candida overgrowth was unlikely."

[YEA]  Carolyn from Slidell, LA writes: "I had bad breath really terrible. I use 3% HP drug store for mouthwash twice a day. It works. I am reading on your site I should not use 3% drug store in my mouth. I do not swallow it and I rinse my mouth with fresh water after use of H2O2 to remove the thick foam. Is 3% drug store H2O2 dangerous to use as mouthwash?"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  Tom from California writes: "H202 helps bad breath but after a while it comes back again. I think the bacteria becomes immune to it. what should you recommend."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  02/20/2009: Dee from Windhoek, Katutura, Namibia replies: "i have tried hydrogen peroxide, i use it and the bad breath goes away for a while then it comes back, i want to know if i can drink HP, i smell goo from my nose and my mucus...can i not rinse my nasal passages with HP? PLEASE HELP"

11/13/2009: M. from Ny, Ny replies: "That sounds like a post nasal drip issue. I have the same problem and this works for me:

Try using a Neti pot. It is a small pot you fill with lukewarm water and salt solution. It is used to flush out your nasal passages. Use it 1x - 2x daily to clean out the gunk collecting in the nasal/throat area. Definitely run a search on google and youtube to learn exactly how to use it. It's painless, all natural and definitely helps.

Also, with a tongue scraper, remove any white fuzz that collects at the back of your tongue. When gargling with peroxide (2 tsp of 3% peroxide with 2 tsp of water), tilt your head all the way back and stick out your tongue to ensure the nasty germs that dwell back there are killed. I would never swallow peroxide under any circumstances because I believe it's toxic.

Make sure you rinse & gargle with water thoroughly after."

11/13/2009: M from Ny, Ny replies: "I forgot to add one thing.

Make sure you brush, tongue scrape and Hydrogen Peroxide gargle after each meal for this to work (up to 4x daily as per instructions on HP bottle).

Let us know how this works for you!!"

11/13/2009: Phil from Dearing, Ga, USA replies: "Hello all. I have always heard of people using chlorophyll for bad breath, I do not know if it will work for everyone... But alot of people believe it to have cured their bad breath. These are people that I know personally and not something I have read.

Get you some Clorophyll pills and give it a try.

Hope this helps someone!"

[YEA]  12/28/2009: Ramg66 from Sacramento, Ca replies: "I have had Bad Breath for as long as I can remember, I just recently tried Hydrogen Peroxide. OMG this has worked better than anything I have ever tried, and I have tried all sorts of stuff. I am using it 100% (thats how desperate I was) but will begin to dilute 50/50. Its hard to tell if you have bad breath unless its morning breath, and that is gone too! I am so glad I read this, I hope this is a permanent remedy. Only people who have had this problem can realize my excitement. Good Luck."

1 QUESTION

[YEA]  01/27/2007: Jodi from Merrillville, IN writes: "Unlike others, my bad breath is caused by a sinus condition. The phlegm sits in the back of my throat causing bad breath. I was told to try magnesium which is supposed to break it up and makes the passageway clear. For me, it is the first thing to ever clear the throat. I then tried the hydrogen peroxide and no more bad breath. let me know how this works."

[QUESTION]  02/02/2009: Ricardo from Port-Louis, Mauritius replies: "Could you please indicate how much magnesium supplements had to be used and also for how long before noticing any change in the bad breath. Thanks for the great job overall."

1 WORKED TEMPORARILY

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  01/17/2008: CR from Marion, IN writes: "I have used the ACV and Baking Soda everday since a found this web site. It work really well the first couple of times, also I do the oil pull every morning. After the third day the really bb returned. I used the lemon juice and soda and the perorixde rinse for sinus and it still work for sinus drainage. I drink coffee after the oil pull, and the ACV on a empty stomach. Could the coffee be the reason why my mouth is so dry and stale after completing the OP, and the ACV, and the mouth rinse? Is there any mouth rinse that I could use after eating food, that will make my breath smell clean and fresh. I tend to have a white coating on my tongue after drinking and eating anything. My breath smells terrible. I have to brush my teeth and tongue sometimes three and four times a day and still my breath still have a foul odor. please tell me what to use for this continuous problem."

01/19/2009: Andrew from Kettering, UK replies: "The bacteria that cause bad breath are anerobic which means that they live without oxygen, they also thrive in a high acidic environment. The bacteria are part of the digestive system and start to break down the compounds in the food as we chew them and feed off the protein. Many people on the Atkins diet suffer with BB because it's high in protein and coffee is acidic so this enables the anerobic bacteria to thrive. Most mouthwashes contain alcohol which dries out the mouth and it is our saliva that helps to clean out the mouth and keeps bacteria in check because it contains oxygen and anerobic bacteria cannot survive when the mouth is oxygenated.3% Hydrogen Peroxide(H202)when used as a mouthwash will kill the anerobic bacteria. You will have to dilute the H202 with water, the instuctions should be on the bottle and add some Baking soda(Bicarbonate of Soda) to it,this will neutalise the acid."

OIL PULLING

2 YEA

[YEA]  04/09/2009: Lynn from San Francisco, ca writes: "I started oil pulling 3 weeks ago with Sesame Oil. At first I was absolutely disgusted by the consistency and could barely keep it in my mouth for 3 minutes. The next day I tried again and was able to swish for about 7 minutes. Everyday the process became easier and easier and now I'm up to 15 minutes. It has not taken away the dark circles under my eyes, my allergies are the worst they've ever been, and my energy has not improved BUT I have definitely noticed that my teeth are extremely clean and feel absolutely amazing. The horribly bad breath (which I attribute to several years on antibiotics) that plagued me has completely disappeared. Clean teeth and fresh breath are reasons enough for me to continue oil pulling and hopefully after a few months I will reap the benefits that others speak of."

[YEA]  10/16/2007: Raquel from Los Angeles, CA writes: "I've been oil pulling for six weeks now and although I can't say I lost any weight, I'm eating more fruits and vegetables because I can now chew better. Also, the lines that run from my nose to my mouth have also diminshed and my dark circles have reduced significantly. I use extra vergin olive oil. At first, my breath stank but I stuck with it and my breath is now fresh and my teeth are strong. My cracked heels are gone and my BP has also dropped and has remained steady. Only question? Can I do this during pregnancy????"

OTC

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/09/2009: Rebecca from Las Vegas , NV/USA writes: "Oral B - Amosan cured my bad breath. I have bad breath often and I've tried many things before and SmartMouth Rinse seemed to do the trick for a long time. However, it hasn't worked for me lately because of my very dry mouth. So, I tried Amosan (again - I've used it when i lived in Manila and the US too)instead. I just followed the instructions on the box. I dissolved 1 packet in 2 Tbs of hot (as hot as you can tolerate) water then swish in the mouth for 30 seconds and presto - fresh breath! It also seems to be taking care of the white coating on my tongue. So, Smartmouth Rinse is good if you don't have a dry mouth and Amosan is GREAT if you have a dry mouth. Although, according to the instruction, you're not suppose to use it for more than 7 days. Hopefully, my bad breath will be gone by then. I'll post another comment later."
