Natural Cures for Candida

Updated: 03/17/2010

rss feed

"Candida is a genus of yeasts. Many species of this genus are endosymbionts of animal hosts including humans. While usually living as commensals, some Candida species have the potential to cause disease. Clinically, the most significant member of the genus is Candida albicans, which can cause infections (called candidiasis or thrush) in humans and other animals, especially in immunocompromised patients. Many Candida species are members of gut flora in animals, including C. albicans in mammalian hosts, whereas others live as endosymbionts in insect hosts.

The last decade has seen the sustained medical importance of opportunistic infections due to different Candida species mainly due to the worldwide increase in the number of immunocompromised patients, who are highly susceptible to opportunistic infections. Meanwhile, the genome sequence of several Candida species has been completed, enabling the detailed investigation of some aspects of their biology with the aid of post-genomic approaches. The basic knowledge gained from these investigations of pathogenic Candida, and related yeasts, can translate into innovations in the development of novel antifungal therapies, original approaches for targeted immuno-interventions, or highly sensitive diagnosis of fungal infections." ADEQUATE CHEWING OF FOOD

1 YEA

[YEA]  12/28/2009: Matt from Millbrook, Ny writes: "Adequate Chewing of Food

During a battle with candidiasis, I learned just how important it is to REALLY chew up your food.

"Human saliva is composed of 98% water, while the other 2% consists of other compounds such as electrolytes, mucus, antibacterial compounds, and various enzymes." - Wikipedia

Digestion begins in the mouth. This is very important. Since I put proper chewing into practice, I found that I eat much less, and that I've become more lean and have more energy! Also my stomach is flatter, either from eating less, or from not being blocked up anymore. It's a very simple practice that everyone can improve upon. If you think you already chew enough, chew more! Perhaps this could have it's own remedy page...?"

02/04/2010: Janey from Leeds, Uk replies: "I think this is a good suggestion and not something that comes easy to me I always eat fast, people comment on it too it is obvious when they finish after me always, they say you ate fast I say why not tell me when you notice I am! I have had digestion problems and candida for years so it's a worth a try, I should be doing it anyhow."

[QUESTION]  01/15/2010: Adrienne from Chicago, Il writes: "I have seen my question a few times, but never found an answer. I have candida and have subsequently stopped using all forms of vinegar. Can anyone explain how/why ACV can be used as a yeast remedy?"

03/01/2010: Lita209 from Sanford, Fl, Usa replies: "Addrienne from Chicago: I see you have the same question I do. I take ACV and I am trying to make my daughter take it as well for her candida symptoms but that's her argument; that she is not supposed to ingest vinegar. Well I have google ACV for candida and it is a big yes! Here is a copy of one the sites I went:
"If apple cider vinegar helps cure candida yeast infections, then why do some people say to avoid fermented foods for candida?"

The recommendation to avoid fermented foods and vinegar in order to cure candida is misleading. I believe it comes from the desire to avoid moldy foods and fermented yeasty beverages like beer and wine.
Mold aggravates candida symptoms and alcohol is a yeast fermentation product, where, in some cases, yeasts can still be present in the beverage. Some people feel it's best to avoid yeast in any form when following a candida diet (but that's for another page altogether).

Alcohol is a waste product of yeasts eating sugar. The reason it's best to avoid alcohol when doing a natural candida cure diet is because the candida yeasts excrete alcohol as a byproduct of sugar metabolism, which contribute to the feelings of brain fog, lack of coordination, fatigue and muscle weakness. We don't want to add even more alcohol to a body which is already a little "drunk".

Note: That's why my candida recipes are all low carbohydrate; carbohydrates are sugars. Sugars feed candida. Candida produces alcohol as a waste product of eating the sugars.

Alcohol and vinegar both go through a fermentation process, in fact, vinegar is made from alcohol!

But they're not the same. Just as mold and naturally fermented sauerkraut are quite different from each other.

In very simplified terms - Wine is made from fruit juice which has undergone a yeast fermentation, where the yeasts ferment the sugars into alcohol. Making vinegar from wine involves another fermentation process, called acetobacter fermentation. Acetobacter is a kind of bacteria which converts alcohol into acetic acid (the major component in vinegar).

By the time something has been fermented into vinegar, there are no more yeasts or sugars to worry about.

Along the same fermentation lines as apple cider vinegar (and therefore similar in its benefits) is sauerkraut that has been fermented by lactic acid bacteria. Cabbage is one of the easiest vegetables to ferment, as its naturally loaded with lactic acid bacteria.

Sauerkraut is sour because the bacteria has fermented the sugars in the cabbage. It's the same reason vinegar tastes sour. Fermented foods like vinegar and sauerkraut are not at all like wine, beer, or mold.

Stay away from mold whenever possible."

I hope this helps if not just google Apple cider vinegar for candida. Good health to you."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/04/2009: Camron from Elizabethtown, Ky writes: "I used ACV to try and cure candida, i'm not really sure if i have a candida problem but after taking any amount, even 1 teaspoon in water, my face will turn red and feel warm. Mainly my cheeks. Is this a reaction between candida and the ACV?"

04/20/2009: Jane from Kanata, Ontario, Canada replies: "It's not Candida, it's probably the Human Demodex:

It sounds like you have a mild case of rosacea. Try Ted's recipe of 50/50 of Borax and Hydrogen Peroxide to kill the human demodex mites. We all have these mites but those who naturally have oilier skin seem to be an ideal host for this parasite.

I have used the following routine which cleared up rosacea in less than a week. My face was full of blackheads, whiteheads, puspules, after I had a stressful minor accident or around PMS. My face felt like I had a sunburn with minor itching, especially on my cheeks. I've always had flare ups on my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) but noticed blackheads spreading on my cheeks. Benzoyl Peroxide did not help - it caused more flaky skin - dry and oily skin at the same time. Also, my eyes felt like there was always something in it - like a eyelash or grit. One eye was puffy especially in the morning.

My doctor prescribed Topical Metronidazole and to wash with a mild beauty bar soap. Also to wear sunscreen daily.

Day 1: Evening at Bedtime: Topical Metronidazole (0.75%) all over the face including eyebrows and eye lashes, and eye lids. Effect: Felt tingling for less than 5 minutes then nothing. Slept a very deep and restful sleep.

Morning Day 2: Red flushing of cheeks gone. Washed face with mild beauty bar, as directed by my doctor. Skin felt and looked better than the day before. Applied Topical Metronidazole all over. Applied a light mineral powder for makeup coverage.

Evening Day 2: By dinnertime, face was quite an unpleasant greasy feeling but the redness was subsiding but new pimples appeared but looked like they were healing except for one. According to the lifecycle of the human demodex mite, this was normal - the immune system is trying to fight the mite as the mite is dying off in large quantities. That evening, washed face just with the beauty bar twice in a couple of hours. Then applied the Topical Metronidazole at bedtime. No tingling on cheeks but, boy, the eyebrows, eyelashes, and eye lids felt like things were hopping! Washed face again with beauty bar and reapplied Topical Metronidazole with minor tingling (less than before so it was washed off).

Morning Day 3: Washed face with beauty bar. Applied Topical Metronidazole. Found Ted's recommendation of 50/50 borax and hydrogen peroxide. Washed face with this mixture - cupped hand with the borax and poured H2O2 on it and scrubbed face. Let stand for about 5-10 minutes. Wow! My face felt quite clean and refreshed. Small red dots are disappearing. Large pores are shrinking. Oil on pores appears more normal. Minimized blackheads (extracted some)

Evening Day 3: Washed face with Ted's 50/50 Borax & H2O2. Then followed by the moisturizing beauty bar restoring pH level. Applied Topical Metronidazole at bedtime, again, very active around the eyebrows, eyelids, and eyelashes. Do not put directly in the eye - just a light film all over the eye area -

Morning Day 4: Had a warm, soak bath with water and 1/2cup borax, 1/2cup H2O2. Bathed and soaked head too. Washed hair with Sensitve Skin Shampoo (containing sulphur - must be active ingredient). Rinsed. Skin is very soft and subtle.

Now the routine is this:

Morning - Wash with 50/50 Borax & H2O2 then follow with the beauty bar soap. Apply sunscreen & light coverup makeup, if required. Wear a hat on sunny days.

Evening - Wash with 50/50 Borax & H2O2 then follow with the beauty bar soap. Apply Topical Metronidazole at bedtime.

Weekly - Bathe in borax & H202 in tub.

Diet - I didn't change diet. It's a high fiber diet following the Canada's Food Guide. One cup of coffee, water, green tea and occassionally a carbonated mineral water. Occasional glass of red wine or one beer - no more than that at mealtime. Everyday multivitamin. Looking into Apple Cider Vinegar to improve digestion and pH balance.

Exercise - at minimum 30 minutes daily.

Laundry - wash loads with Borax and laundry soap with 1/2 cup of vinegar scented with lavendar oil as the fabric softener. Wash bed linens once or twice weekly. Change pillowcase daily. Change facecloth daily and body towel every other day.

I've found that Ted's Solution expediated the process with amazing results along side with what my doctor prescribed me.

Also, my home, & car environment:

1) I've always used Borax in my laundry routine, mostly for the whites & underwear load. Will definitely use it for all loads especially bed linens, towels, etc.

2) Washing the bathroom with borax with great results compared to filmy, cholrine-based products (nicer on your hands, for the sensitive skin type!)

3) Why stop at the bathroom, the kitchen looks and feels fantastic!

4) Trying dusting with a microcloth with diluted borax and water I use 15mL borax+1L water. Vacuum often (at least 1-3 times a week).

5) No residue on hardwood floors.

6) Borax and hot water in spray bottle - lightly spraying the mattresses, leather sofa, carpets, etc. Test small inconspicuous area first.

7) Borax is a great cleaning agent for the car interior.

8) Change the furnace air filter monthly. Use a mattress cover on every bed.

9) Get rid of clutter - collects too much dust, especially where you sleep - don't forget the kids rooms too. Put things in labelled boxes and get them out when you want to use them. Otherwise, give away. Speeds up the cleaning routine and is motivating!

10) Last, but most importantly, wash the telephone, computer, light switches, etc. where we share each other's space.

I feel like I have more energy. The general malaise is disappearing (even though I was trying to take care of myself and family with good food & exercise. Everyone else was benefiting except for me). Since I'm getting my sleep, I noticed a decrease in stress (or my ability to cope). Less stress is less havoc on my digestive system. General well-being is improving.

Keep up with this routine as the Human Demodex mite life cycle lasts quite awhile until you feel it's in check. The Human Demodex mite is passed on and is normal (just like dust mites) so please don't obsess, just be informed that this microns have a lifecycle and we just have to keep things in check. The website, ____ was helpful in viewing photos of the gradual process that some people may experience as well as the life cycle of the human demodex mite.

Cost:

Topical Metronidazole (Prescription 60mg for $36 CDN)
Beauty Bar - less than $2 each, package sizes vary
Borax $4-5 a box (grocery or pharmacy store)
Hydrogen Peroxide $1 at dollar store or pharmacy
Sensitive Skin Bubble Bath & Shampoo, $1 at dollar store

Wow - for around $50 and some cleaning muscle, this acne and rosacea causing mite called the human demodex can be controlled and minimized to minimize outbreaks. Thank you Ted for posting the 50/50 Borax/Hydrogen Peroxide Solution!

I wish it works well for you! Good Luck!"

[QUESTION]  02/23/2009: Tamra Klosowski from Falcon, Colorado writes: "I'm a little confused, does AVC contribute to candida or cause it? I don't seem to have any (obvious) negitive reations but after reading something on your website I started to wonder. I do deal with candida and I am doing what I know to get it under control. The last thing I want to do is make it worse. As I'm sure you know it can be a little bit of a challenge to figure out where the real reason for not feeling good is coming from. I like simple. Thats why I like AVC (and garlic) I believe AVC has kept my health. Again I understand that candida recks havoc on any ones system. Thank you for the imput. Tamra"

[YEA]  02/02/2009: Bill from St. Louis, MO, USA writes: "My lady friend developed a severe case of some type of yeast or fungus overgrowth. It began as a red area under one breast, and soon spread to both breasts, upper chest, stomach and groin area. I suspect a recent injection of steroids (to relieve poison ivy) to be the cause, but that is only speculation. This rash was severe. She was Dr. prescribed a cream and then a powder-- with little effect. I recommended the Apple Cider Vinegar Cure, along with making sure the affected area stayed clean and dry. We applied (again, use only), organic, unfiltered, non-pasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar. She applied the ACV directly to the affected area. It is important to note that applying the ACV to a severe rash is Very Painful! I suggest that if you cannot tolerate the pain, you might start with a diluted (50%?) mixture until some of the "rawness" disappears. RESULTS: 100 Percent CURE! Absolutely amazing. She continued the application for about two weeks, with results beginning immediately. Her skin dried completely, the rash and finally the redness disappeared. Thank You Earthclinic, Thank You Ted!"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  09/11/2007: Scott from Paradise, California writes: "Hi. I am a new user of ACV and am very pleased and surprised at the way it is helped me to feel better. I know that I have always struggled with candidiasis, but never got the complete relief from it using other remedies. The ACV has made an incredible difference in how I feel. I have also experienced the other benefits of increased energy, decreased anxiety, better sleep. However, there is one concern I have that I hope someone can help me with. Sometimes when I take the ACV it seems to upset my stomach. Help! I really value this remedy, but I'm concerned about stomach upset. Thanks."

12/07/2008: LuAnn from Rapid City, SD replies: "Try diluting it in warm water if you are taking it straight. May help. Or try having your apple cider vinegar in your salad instead. Something in the stomach may also help."

01/07/2009: Darlene from Denver, Colorado replies: "If you put the acv in v-8 juice you can't even taste the acv."

05/30/2009: Dee from Redlands, CA replies: "Also, don't forget that yeast infections are prominent with diabetes. I suffered yeast infections for years because my blood sugar ran high at times! Make sure that you're blood sugar is stable!"

07/22/2009: Veroanique from Melbourne, FL replies: "Try adding a pinch of baking soda. According to a lot of comments, that alleviated negative stomach reactions to ACV."

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR BATHS, ACV BAKING SODA, MAGNESIUM CITRATE, VITAMIN E

1 YEA

[YEA]  01/26/2008: Christa from Vancouver, Canada writes: "I am so gratefull for this site. Thank you everyone for the time and effort it takes to do this. I went into menapause about 1.5 years ago. I developed an overgrowth of yeast that ended up breaking out all over my body in different rashes at different times. Nothing would make it go away. I tried silver. I tried creams . I went on 2 week cleanses and nothing worked untill I tried ACV. I read that this would kill yeast so I started to bathe in with a cup of it in my bathwater and i started to take 2 Tbs with 1/2 tbs, Baking soda with a little hot water and a dash of pure apple juice 3 times a day . Within a week, my rash's had cleared up. One more sore broke out the next week but I have been rash free for almost 3 weeks now and I am so gratefull. I then took Teds advise and took 250 ml of Magnesium Citrate, liquid for w 400 iu of Natural Vitamin E.Capsules and as he said, my body is cooling down. I barely have hot flashes anymore. All this incouraged me and I have totaly illiminated white floor & Sugar from my diet. I find myself giggleing now and feel so much lighter...Thank you so much"

10/15/2008: Julian from Dublin, Ireland replies: "my girlfriend wants to try this treatment but she doesen't know what dosage to use for candida albicans treatment"

[YEA]  04/19/2009: Diane from Napa, CA replies: "Natural Cures for Candida: First, thank you for this website. I read Christa's (from Canada) message posted here after searching for a natural remedy for a white tongue (another symptom of a systemic yeast infection). I followed her regime of 2 Tbs with 1/2 tbs Baking soda with a little hot water and a dash of pure apple juice 3 times a day. Within five days my white tongue was rosy again. I started taking 400 iu of Natural Vitamin E.Capsules; I had already been taking the Magnesium 25ml per day, for the menopause. And I also stop the sugar. Wow! I have more energy, sleep better, and oh, my joints are not painful, another symptom! Thank you!!"

BORIC ACID

1 NAY

[YEA]  01/27/2006: April from Steubenville writes: "Make your own boric acid suppositories by filling size 00 gelatin capsules. insert one capsule in the vagina at bedtime for 2 weeks. To prevent a recurrent infection, boric acid can be used twice a week for 6mo. to 1 year. I am 37 yrs old and put up with chronic yeast infections for the past 10 yrs. I tried this treament after every medication had failed. I have been yeast fee for almost a year! This really works, I told my gynocologist about this treatment and he is now letting this patients in on the cure! You can go to a website WebMD.com to read more about it."

[NAY]  10/01/2008: Leigh from Dallas, TX replies: "My vote is a big NAY!

Boric Acid is a systemic poison. It is used as an insecticide! Actually works great. Kills roaches almost as soon as they ingest it. It is highly absorbable through mucos membranes - such as the vagina. The lethal dose is approximately 15 grams. On-line recommended doses for vaginal yeast infections vary between 1 and 2 capsules as suppositories per day for 14 days. Wikipedia references 600 mg per day as a suppository for 14 days - which if you care to do the math adds up to 8.4 grams. If you double this number to get 2 capsules for 14 days the result is a whopping 16.8 grams which goes well beyond the LETHAL DOSE! 00 capsules hold between 540 and 1090 mg! I would NOT recommend using Boric Acid to anyone I cared about!"

06/15/2009: BJ from Vancouver, BC replies: "This same boric acid remedy stopped recurrent yeast infections I had been having for several years. Just as a side note, make sure you buy the boric acid in the pharmacy that's for minor cuts, not the borax from the laundry aisle."

10/16/2009: Joc from New Orleans, La replies: "They sell a natural bacterial vaginosis remedy in the feminine section of the drugstore that is primarily boric acid with some other herbs mixed in. I took this remedy (with little result) but experienced no ill effects from the boric acid. It was there right next to the OTC yeast infection remedies. I guess it is to restore the PH balance"

CANDIDA AND pH

08/06/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Very few people, except maybe doctors, know that candida albicans grows when your body's pH is acid and therefore, it makes for feasibility of taking baking soda to raise your body's pH but also using some potassium carbonate to further raise the pH as a means of killing Candida albicans appears to be quite feasible.

Candida albicans optimum growth pH is a 4, but it can grow between pH 3 - 7, however most hospital's antiseptic is usually acid which makes it rather ineffective in the killing and the spread of candida albicans. The research below also implies that taking digestive enzymes supplements will also destroy the candida also. Ted

Here is a research abstract:

Effect of pH and human saliva on protease production by Candida albicans.

G R Germaine and L M Tellefson

This article has been cited by other articles in PMC. Abstract

The elaboration of extracellular proteolytic activity by Candida albicans during growth in laboratory broth or in human whole salivary supernatant was investigated. Growth of the organism in broth at pH 3 to 7 followed by assay of culture supernatants at pH 4 (optimum for activity) indicated protease was only present in cultures grown at a pH of less than 5. In contrast, growth in sterile human whole salivary supernatant over the pH range of 3 to 7 uniformly failed to result in production of protease. Growth of the organism at pH 4 in broth supplemented with saliva resulted in a saliva-dependent inhibition of protease production. Although the addition of up to 16% (vol/vol) saliva had essentially no effect on growth, 4% saliva caused a 50% reduction in proteolysis of substrate protein. Due to the low pH requirement for protease production and activity and the demonstration that saliva is a potent inhibitor of protease synthesis, we conclude C. albicans most likely does not produce extracellular protease in the human oral cavity."

CANDIDA COMMENTS

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  09/16/2009: Dunn Dunn from Dallas, Texas writes: "i believe that i have candida and and i was trying to find out some step to take to get the candida under control,,,its a few different treatment options that i have heard of ,,but they all seem to be different,,,i really didnt want to waste time or money trying thinking that didnt work,,,any suggestion would be greatly appreciated,,,"

09/17/2009: Sheena from Glasgow, Scotland replies: "Search Google for the Candida spit test and try this if you haven't already done so. Not only has my health improved but my spit test results have greatly improved, so I know that at least some of what I have done has worked. I would recommend that read through all the posts on the Candida page and then start writing a Candida diary. This helped me to determine what was having an affect (including foods).

I would much rather you did your own research and devised your own plan of action, however I will the things that I did which I am sure helped in my case:

Lemon and bicarbonate soda drink (or baking soda for the US)
Tiny pinch of borax in 1 litre of water

Vitamins C, B E. Zinc & cod liver oil. Also selenium and Magnesium. I took all of these supplements fairly regularly (2 - 3 times a week) for a few months. This was to address any nutritional deficiencies that might exist as a consequence of the Candida. Also, many of these supplements (esp selenium) are anti fungal.

I also drink blackstrap molasses in water, particularly around my time of the month as it helps. I also drink an apple cider vinegar (with bicarbonate of soda) drink from time to time.

All of the things I mentioned here can be found in this website, so read up on everything carefully and then decide if you want to give anything a try. Good luck."

09/17/2009: Eh from Atlanta, Ga replies: "Candida Treatment: I had tried several things also, but the thing that worked for me was Grapefruit Seed Extract (sometimes referred to as GSE), and a very good (refrigerated) Pro-biotic. I can't mention the brand name here, but it has 3 different types of healthy bacteria in it -- it is awesome. I took the GSE 3x daily - 10 drops in an empty gelcap (can buy at most health food stores) or you can put it in a glass of water, but it's hard to swallow - very bitter. Make SURE you drink a full glass of water with the gelcap -- it can hurt your stomach if you do not. And, I took the pro-biotic 2x daily at first -- then once daily after for maybe 2 months. Also, make sure to wait at least 2-3 hrs to take your probiotic -- you don't want the GSE to kill the good bacteria! Even after I started to feel totally better, I continued the GSE 1 or 2x daily for months.. just to be sure. THere are many, many benefits to the GSE also (do a search on the web for it -- it's also very inexpensive for all the benefits it does ) And... NO, I do not sell the GSE :-) I'm just a believer! (If your candida is vaginal, you can also douche with it -- the bottle has instructions) I have heard people say that Collodial Silver does a great job also, but it's more expensive, so I just used the GSE. It is a great natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. I've gotten a couple of extra bottle in case anyone in my family contact swine flu. Hope this helps!"

CANDIDA DETOXING SYMPTOMS

1 QUESTION

[QUESTION]  02/08/2010: Karen from Ghent-belgium, Belgium writes: "Black tongue due to candida detox?

Hello, I am 32 years old, living in western europe, Belgium. I am truly happy to have found this website and got very enthusiastic on the remedies and exchange of experiences. As I wrote before thanks a lot for existing!

I started one month and a half to drink every morning a glass of hot water, apple cider vinegar, black strap molasses and turmeric. In the evenings, I usually drink a glass of warm water with acv, baking soda and some honey for taste. I felt better, but I have to mention I went slowly in upgrading the amount of AVC. I felt great, share the same experiences, it helped me to get rid of the morning coffee. I also have a balanced diet with lots of veggies, fruit, fish and I avoid (but not totaly eliminate) wheat products and sugar. I am just not very rigid in saying no but limit this to two times a week.

I lost 3 kg since I started doing this.

Now, since one week, I am at home from work with what seems a big flu. I was aware that I could get some flu-like symptoms from detox, but it is very cold, wet and just the season for flu so nothing wrong with getting a flu. I added some cayenne pepper and think I am doing allright.

What does bother me tough is this: now I have a black tongue. I rince with hydrogen peroxide (what I learned from this site), brush well, drink a lot of water, clean my tongue with a scraper, etc... I had to go to my regular dokter for prescribing me some more days because I still have headaches and suffer from fatigue. So I asked her what it could be. She said "candida" in the mouth and prescribed me daktarin oral, to fight the fungus in my mouth.

What to think about this? Is it my body in detox trying to get rid of the candida? Should I be more severe in stopping all wheat and sugar (which are already very limited)? Should I not take this dakarin or is it recommended? Do i risk just fighting the symptoms and not the cause? I don't know. The only think I do know is that I sincerely lack energy now. Today I skipped my usual health cocktail, maybe I was detoxing too fast... I must keep on working tough, I can not permit myself to stay at home and go into detox all the way. Please help me out... Must do something wrong OR do this very well... I am confused.

Thanks a lot for your responses!

Karen."

02/09/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Karen...If you have Candida in the mouth then it's very likely you have candida in your intestines as well. I've had Intestinal Candida, and managed to cured it. Here is a past extract of what I used and how I cured it:

"Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Deborah and Cured from Niceville...I had candida three years ago. My symptoms were psoriasis, eczma, BM and toilet only once every 4 days if I was lucky, tired and sluggish all day, severe grogginess and brainfog in the mornings, jock itch(tinea cruris) and overweight. I also regularly caught colds, flu etc many times a year on a regular basis.

This is what I took to cure candida:

* Ted's alkalizing remedies using either whole squeezed lemon/lime or 2 tbspns ACV plus 1/2 tspn baking soda(Arm & Hammer brand) two or three times a day. This is Ted's Alkalizing Remedy and this is THE NUMBER ONE CURE for Candida in my book.

* One tablespoons of virgin coconut oil stirred into my coffee at least 3 times a day.

* Blackstrap molasses in my coffee, no refined sugar or aspartame sweetener allowed in my diet.

When I started this remedy at the beginning, I got fairly severe flu-like symptoms -- it almost seemed as if the remedy was making me worse. But this die off or Herxheimer Effect always happens when you get the fungal toxins in your blood from the microbes and fungus, so think of it as a good sign.

Your liver and kidneys are overworked initially, until your immune system can get on top of it. After this die-off it was easy. All my skin problems just disappeared slowly (except the jock itch -- but that's another story) and I haven't had a cold or flu in 2 years.

Mind you, it took me a full year to completely get rid of my candida. And even though I'm clear of candida now, and since it is very difficult to eat non-acidic foods these days, I still always alkalize and take coconut oil a couple of times a week as a preventative even now (plus supplementing borax, magnesium, natural sea salt etc as recommended by Ted on this site)."

02/09/2010: Karen from Ghent-belgium, Belgium replies: "Bill from the philippines:

Thanks a lot for your answer. I hadn't read the posts on candida yet but did so this morning and I came across your post as well. Especially the confirmation that flu-like symptoms can occur reassured me. So I took my acv, blackstrap molasses, tumeric and cayenne-drink as usual in the mornings. I also take often (and will increase) a spoon of pure coconut oil and went to the health store today for grape seeds extract (which is really expensive over here - but I got lucky I found it). I am looking forward for results. The only thing I am not sure of is whether to take the anti-candida oral get the doc prescribed... Could this speed up the proces and could this be helpful? Or should I say no to this traditional medicine? .. I ask this question because I've seen a site from someone with chronic fatgue who is cured of candida and in the end completely cured buy eating natural healthy foods, but she recommended this so I guess it could be helpful... The thing is that I am working and really need this money, can't afford to go into this kind of deep detox again, .... Yeah I know... Thanks for answering my question, what do you (and other readers) think?"

02/09/2010: The_phoenix from Townsville, Australia replies: "Hi Karen,

There are a lot of psychological aspects to 'health' and usually I can't help but notice the underlying attitude. In your case I like the fact that you have WILL POWER (many people lack this or have a weak WILL) and this can take you anywhere once it is developed i.e. you can act on your intentions so you just went out and put the diet into practice. I take it that you are relatively young so this forbodes well for your future. My advice would be to develop an awareness of your psychological weaknesses and work on improving them ... in this case DISCRIMINATION is the keyword and this can be applied as rational criticism.

(in laypersons terms your can execute but you need to spend more time developing better skills when it comes to selecting your objective).

Re your 'diet':

- you seem to be doing well with this so you don't need to change too much. If you are new to it then please read widely and consider all of the 'for and againsts' for each of the main dietary regimes. It really depends on your objectives .... it is natural to want to look good (even at 58 I still look in the mirror) but is it something we should hitch our wagon too? If you are 'eating for health', as opposed to 'dieting' then be careful, be informed and be patient.

Specifically:

- I think you lost some weight pretty quickly so more than likely you are subconsciously dieting ... so your calorie input is less than what you are burning and you have gone 'ketogenic' (google or Wiki it) which will make you feel lethargic.
- we always want more energy (how much is enough?) .... a large group of people, in the health community, have developed a morbid fear of 'sugar' ... we get our energy from the Sun which is stored as carbos ... we only need to balance sugar in with sugar burnt each day and our weight will be stable. We can only feel energetic as a result of consuming sugars in the right form and right amount (there are a few exceptions to that case but I won't discuss then now).
All we need to do is to become profecient in selecting the type of sugar to eat and knowing when to eat it.(I am not a Glycemic guru but I think an understanding of Glycemic theory is a good place to start).
- Visualization techniques, positive thinking etc can also be very good for harnessing energy (ENERGY FOLLOWS THOUGHT).
- you might be trying to do too much at once (when I first started, around 16 years of age, I was fanatical ... time has taught me to be a little more cautious and flexible) ... try one thing at a time ... maybe settle down the diet and get some experience with that before taking on the world.
- you are getting very close to being on a vegan and/or therapeutic diet so be careful to get enough of the essentials ... especially Iron (for ladies), B vitamins and energy (IMO too many people are flagellating themselves in the name of health)
- sometimes we can go on a therapeutic diet for no good reason (do you have a health issue you are dealing with?) .... for everyday living a little flexibility and emotional satisfaction is necessary.

Re your black tounge:

- in philosophy Occams Razor is a law that states the simplest explanation is usually the best
- please read my comments on the 'Candida madness', that is rampant in the health community, that I made in another EC post earlier today
- please search Wikipedia for [hairy black tounge] (HBT)
(there is even a photograph there ... does your tounge look like that?)
- if you have HBT then good ol' Wiki tells us you can just scrape it off with a toothbrush or maybe some EC remedies for antifungal mouthwash will do
- another possibility is that you have produced some chemical in your 'health' concoction that is darkening your tounge (I seem to recall Wikipedia also gives an example of this)
- it is also possible that there is something in your molasses, for example, that is making your tounge black e.g. iron (be aware that unscrupulous merchants can adulterate 'health' products to make a cheap substitute look like the real thing ... even in the USA we have confirmed cases of ACV adulterated with a weight reducing chemical).

LET YOUR FOOD BE YOUR MEDICINE"

02/09/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Karen...A black tongue can also be caused by :

* Smoking

* Using antacids frequently like Pepto-bismol (for upset stomach) and others that are based on bismuth chemicals -- such as bismuth subsalicylate.

* Over-use of antibiotics.

* Candida infection -- although in most mouth candida/thrush infections the tongue is white or patchy white, with thick and sour-tasting sputum.

02/09/2010: Cc from Slc, Utah replies: "To Karen - Your tongue was probably white then it turned black. I would say that you used way too much H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and killed everything that lives on your tongue the good and the bad. I also did this once when I used to much H202. It went from white to red then to black then back to white. Your tongue will most likely go back to a white color after a few days. Take Care."

CAPRYLIC ACID

2 YEA
1 SIDE EFFECT

[SIDE EFFECTS]  12/29/2009: Anonymous from USA writes: "I have been on a Candida Diet for about 6 months, definitely with some improvements. However, just couldn't get rid of this recurring yeast infections. After further research I kept on hearing about capryllic acid, and what a powerful anti-fungal it is. What I didn't know is that you have to slowly build up the quantity (the lady in the store suggested 3 in the morning, and 3 in the afternoon). Long story short, 7 days later I had a Herxheimer reaction, also known as a die-off reaction. Mine was pretty crazy though, very scary especially if you don't know what the heck is going on and have no one to talk to about. For about a week prior I noticed red, hot burning checks, especially after I came out of the shower. Then my cheeks started becoming really dry and started slightly peeling. As mentioned, 7 days later, I woke up with extremely itchy palms in my hand and feed. Within hours the itchiness spread throughout my entire body. Something was obviously in my blood stream. It was a weekend so I went to Urgent Care as I started noticing really huge hives showing up. I was told to take Benadryl, which somewhat helped. I broke out in hives and rashes for the next two days. On day 2 and 3 both my eyelids were swollen. The doctor simply called it allergic reaction and prescribed steroids. Somebody told me to go and get hydro colon therapy for 3 consecutive days. I had my second one today. Most of my rashes, hives and itchiness are almost gone. And my eyelids are almost back to normal. In retrospect I found a lot of online information how capryllic acid can cause a herxheimer reaction, which is why you need to slowly build up the potency over a couple weeks. I'm so glad I didn't take the steroids. Well, hopefully I rid my body of the candida by now :-)""

[YEA]  04/21/2008: AC from West Midlands, England writes: "I read about Coconut oil on this site and went to my local health store to ask if they had any. They said no, but they suggested I take caprylic acid, which is in coconut oil and helps cure yeast overgrowth. I purchased it to help cure my athlete's foot and stomach discomfort.

I purchased it and I took one 350MG tablet daily as per directions. It did not cure my athlete's foot like I wanted, but I felt less hungry, less tired, and my stomach felt better. I also lost weight without serious effort. I've been taking it for two months now.

Warning: I experienced two things while taking this: stomach discomfort and a slightly yeasty odor coming from my body for a week or two.

The yeasty smell rubbed off on my washcloth and towels. I discovered by accident that putting a capful of hydrogen peroxide (the regular kind from the pharmacy, not the food grade kind) in my bathwater stopped this. It stopped me from emitting the yeasty smell and from transferring it to my wash cloth and towels."

12/07/2008: LuAnn from Rapid City, SD replies: "My local Walmart carries organic virgin coconut oil 16 oz. I prefer this over expeller pressed coconut oil. It has a different tast. So cold process or virgin does taste better. I use it in my teas. I cook my eggs with it. I use it in my hair as a conditioner. I have even used it up my nose for the sinus issues candida cause. I put some each nostril and lay down with a warm compress on my eyes. If you were congested you will get up and blow your nose and it feels great.

I have friends who have exemia and most of them said it is gone in 3 days.
I just tried the collidioal silver tonight in a nazal spray bottle. What a wonder full relieve not only 2 hours later, the 4 day headache is gone. Still have pressure by no where like before. Thanks"

CAPRYLIC ACID, PROBIOTICS

1 YEA

[YEA]  08/24/2008: Suzanne from Abbotsford, BC writes: "About 10 years ago now I was having regular, severe bouts of vaginal yeast infections, seeming to coincide with my cycle. Then I began experiencing numbness and tingling, first in my hands and feet, then my lips and tongue, then pretty much everywhere! Doctors had no answers for me and any "solution" they suggested would have been worse than my condition. One day I was in a health food store, and noticed that the symptoms for systemic candida were identical to what I had been experiencing. The book also said that caprylic acid killed yeast, so I bought some right away and the yeast infections stopped and the numbness and tingling went away gradually. However, I didn't take probiotics at first, and I did have some reoccurence of symptoms when I couldn't get caprylic acid, so I began taking an enteric-coated probiotic blend (which ensured that it maked it through the stomach acid to where it was needed in my lower tract). Caprylic acid has a rather nasty burp aftertaste (a little food to chase it down helps) so I much prefer the probiotics and have been symptom-free for many years now."

At work my eyes are dry and my lips seem dry, but because I talk all day on phones, I can only sip or drink on breaks. There are times when my tongue actually sticks to my mouth when that dry. Awfull. Wondering if this is a something I need to worry about. I do have Systemic Candidiasis. So I am apt to have a whole lot of syndromes. Hoping this is not one to add to the list. Thanks LuAnn Got some advice?"

04/13/2009: Anon from San Francisco, CA replies: "RE: Dry Mouth

Are you on medical drugs? Toxins often make your mouth dry. Pesticides on plants, herbs, etc. also can cause dry mouth. Ny dry mouth goes away when I stop taking food or herbs that cause dry mouth. (I don't take "meds," since many are too toxic.

For DRY EYES, I juice about half a small onion with other vegetables, which makes my eyes quite moist. (Recall how you tear easily when peeling onions?) Also, for dry mouth, I eat mung beans SPROUTS. It naturally cleans my eyes and makes it moist. This might work for dry mouth. too."

COCONUT OIL

3 YEA

[YEA]  02/05/2010: Corinna from London, Kent, England writes: "I suffered from candida infections virtually all my adult life. It started after I used antibiotics in my early twenties and became chronic. This changed once I started to use virgin coconut oil for cooking at age 38. What a relief!
I went to a food intolerance check in my local health food shop. The man was all set to diagnose me with candida because then he would be able to sell me lots of medicines (his major source of income) - or so it seemed to me. However, he checked and checked and could not find the candida. He seemed astonished because apparently he found the fungus in everyone. Anyway, I am free of candida for the last 10 years and as an added bonus I also suffer less from herpes outbreaks that I used to have much more frequently."

Anyway, my question is, my Mom has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and I've been seeing mixed commentary on the web to whether or not taking the Coconut Oil is good for people who have high blood pressure. Should she continue taking Coconut Oil and will it lower her pressure or make it higher?

Any commentary or personal results are appreciated!! Thanks!"

[YEA]  11/28/2009: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Colleen...As a help to you here is a website showing much of the research on coconut oil in our diet:

http://coconutoil.com/research.htm

There are many myths that have been spread around about saturated fats and the above web-site should explain all.

I use extra virgin coconut oil internally and externally on body every day, I regard this oil as far more curative even than olive oil because coconut oil is a stable saturated fat, whereas olive oil is a monounsaturated vegetable oil, therefore less stable and much more prone to quickly oxidise.

When I started taking coconut oil, I actually lost weight, my blood pressure went down, my cholesterol levels went down and rebalanced, I had more energy and it was a major factor in getting rid of my Candida."

03/16/2010: Maria from Wilmington, DE, Usa replies: "This is a question to Bill from the Philipines. Bill how long did you take the coconut oil to cure your candida? Maria"

03/17/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Maria...It took a year to cure my candida. And coconut oil wasn't the only remedy I used. I also used the following.

* Ted's lime/lemon plus Baking soda 3 times a day for alkalizing the body.

* Occasionally Ted's ACV plus BS or BS on its own on in water to provide more energy and to provide more bicarbonates respectively.

* Teaspoon of Blackstrap Molasses in my coffee for minerals.

* Milk thistle to support my liver throughout the cure.

* Kelp tablets for iodine.

* My own homemade decoction of Tinospora cordifolia, Phyllanthus niruri(Chanca piedra or Stonebreaker) and Tumeric, all of which grow in my garden. I took this for liver, kidney and intestinal support throughout the cure. I have recently included Neem leaves in this decoction, because I found a Neem tree in my neighboorhood the other day. Neem, amongst all its other highly beneficial properties, is also highly alkalizing.

I had terrible constipation for about 7 years and usually had a bowel movement once every 4 days. Not good. The coconut oil had an immediate effect on this, my stools became smaller and softer, and eventually I started to have regular BM everyday. I cook everything in VCO now, even use it on my salads. I have banned all other polyunsaturated veg oils from my diet now, since most of these are highly processed chemically and suffer oxidation too quickly which is bad for the body. VCO should be unprocessed, stable and it takes 2-3 years to oxidize this oil.

Just to say that intestinal candida is an insidious problem that can be very hard to eradicate. It is insidious because initially you don't notice its effects, they sort of creep up on you and since I'm over 60 y o I just thought it was age...LOL. But then I stumbled on EC and read about candida. I now regard any yeast, mold or fungus as the prime human enemy now, far more destructive on the human body than viruses, bacteria etc. Fungus's are way more adaptable than any other microbe, they are neither plant nor animal, they can hide for years, they can transfer their nucleus via their hypha by penetrating host cells in order to hide and breed when under attack. The overall effect of this is to continually weaken and wear down the body's immune system, and eventually to provide a wonderful acid environment to allow in a plethora of other viruses and bacteria. This is why it takes so long to get rid of and recover from candida.

Simply put, there is no one magic bullet for candida. I still regard Ted's lemon/lime remedy as the prime remedy that hepled to destroy my candida. But I also have a very high regard for VCO too."

03/17/2010: Maria from Wilmington, De - Usa replies: "Hi Bill,

Thanks for the prompt response and thorough explanation. However, I have a few questions regarding your remedies:

1. How much lime/lemon juice and baking soda dis you use?
2. Milk Thistle - is this in a form of tea or powder. How much and how frequently do you use it.
3. Kelp tablets - not sure I need it or do I

I have had thrush in my throat (I'm sure it's in my stomach as well) for about 2 months now and went the Rx route but I'm ready to use the home remedies. I am also over 60 and having a tough time of it but I'm not giving up, there must be an answer. I am determined to kill this fungus off and get my life back. All the best to you.

Maria"

COLLOIDAL SILVER

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/11/2007: Beth writes: "For years, I suffered chronic candida in the form of migraines, yeast infections, fatigue, food allergies, and PMS that debilitated me with vomiting at least two days a month. I began seeing great relief by using colloidal silver and following the diet I learned from on website "http://dogtorj.net".

I sipped all day on a single teaspoon of colloidal silver added to whatever I was drinking. It is tasteless. Whenever I get a migraine, I even put a spoonful in salt water (and sometimes I use it alone when the pain is unbearable) and use it to flush out my sinuses. The relief is immediate because it suffocates the candida. The die-off symptoms are non-existent.

Candida thrive in progesterone. They have an ability called quorum sensing. That simply means that tiny individual candida can sense when there are enough of them to cause a bigger effect. So now I don't give them that chance. The liver has a hard time recovering from the die-off, the food allergy symptoms from the toxins the candida create AND the stress of the menstrual cycle all at the same time. I discovered if I am especially careful about not eating any grains, dairy, or soy the week before my period, I can avoid a bad scene. It's not sugar the candida eat. Sugar goes through the body too quickly. Candida, needs sustenance that takes longer to break down. It's grains they feed on. That's why low carb diets alleviate symptoms."

09/10/2008: Patti from Camlachie, Ontario, Canada replies: "The silver is an excellent choice for many ailments and helps to 'boost' up the immune system, which in turn keeps disease away. Go one step better and purchase "ionic" silver. This process puts the silver in a state where the molecules are even smaller and therefore are absorbed much quicker and at a better rate than the colloidal silver which has larger molecules and your body does not absorb the full intake. One source you can check out for more information is a small family owned business in Canada that has purchased the technology to produce mineral waters in an ionic form. They are called Quench Essentials and I know many health food store sell their product. However, you can order from their website or call their number. I have provided it for you too.

COLONICS

2 YEA

[YEA]  Sarah Kay from Jerusalem, Israel writes: "I had candida yeast infection so bad that I landed in the hospital -- it went to my head, and ears and and eyes and...causing profuse vomiting for days. The doctors were baffled. Of course for most of them, candida is a made up illness. In NJ, doctors can't list it as a diagnosis cause it doesn't exist. No, doc, it wasn't Meniere's, or an imbalance in the ear canal nor any of the other guesses that you took, it was the genuine article: Candida Albicans. As a result of their not knowing, I went home untreated (except that the night duty nurse tried to give me the heart patient's medication) and treated it myself: I took a series of 10 colonics followed by ozone rectal insufflations which stopped the yeast dead. The ozone killed all the little nasty buggers hiding internally and flooded them with ozone/oxygen. I ate no sugar, flour, dairy or yeast products for a year. Two weeks ago I had my first dose of regular whole wheat yeasted bread and bada bing: no swelling, no itching, no bags under my eyes, no tingles. I recommend a few colonics a year followed by the ozone insufflations, just to make sure!"

CREAM OF TARTER

2 YEA
1 NAY
1 WARNING!

[YEA]  04/22/2007: Karl from Chiang Mai, Thailand writes: "quote: Cream of Tartar kills Yeast !!! Direct quote from the following website: http:/www.totalityofbeing.com/ArchivedYeastInfections.html

..."Through the work of Dr. Tom Revis DC, ND, I've discovered that plain old Cream of Tartar powder, yes the spice, will not only alkalinize better than the coral ever could. (You can test your saliva with Litmus paper to see the difference), but the Cream of Tartar powder also kills yeast all by itself! What a great combo to help with the battle! Most folks need between 1 to 2 tablespoons of the powder daily depending on the severity of the infection. You can mix it with water or just plop the powder in your mouth and swallow water to wash it down. (Don't breathe in while the powder is still dry in your mouth as some of the still dry powder can go down the wrong way). You can divide the tablespoon into 3 teaspoons to take less at one shot. Expect to have the runs for the first few days using the Cream of Tartar as the initial die off of yeast happens.

So take the cream of tartar then at a seperate time take the I Flora (2 capsules 3 to 4 times daily with or with out meals) and the Inulin powder (one teaspoon 3 to 4 times a day) as well. These days I've been using the Inulin from NOW (www.nowfoods.com). It is significantly less expensive that the stuff I used to use as it is from chicory and not artichoke hearts, yet all of the studies done by the German researchers from the University of Leipzig who first successfully used Inulin used the Chicory kind, so why spend more when the chicory Inulin will more than do the job and for a lot less money!

Most docs and patients who have used this program have put a considerable dent in their Candida Infections in 30 days without the problem of compliance to a restrictive diet. The program will work regardless of what you're eating!"

[NAY]  Ted from Bangkok, thailand replies: "Dear Karl: Yes, I have looked on that issue for many years and for me it has always left me in the gray area, or one that I prefer not to recommend. It must be noted that it is with great pains that I not use this, despite many temptations. Why I am never tempted there are many reasons.

Of course you are free to try the remedy and I might be wrong. However, let's look at some of my complaints on such use.

If I have a choice between cream of tartar and potassium bicarbonate, I would choose potassium bicarbonate (and baking soda) for the candida problems. Another form of potassium is potassium citrate, which is free of the problems also. However, people whose body are high in nitrates (and I know because I had experience with this), they can sensitize to too much potassium, causing heart beat problems. At least this is my experience. A safer form is the citrate, or sodium citrate, which is superior than the baking soda. Basically sodium citrate is nothing more than citric acid mixed with baking soda, until pH reaches 8.0, in which case the resultant reaction in a water solution, will yield a sodium citrate. As a simple home remedy, it is a lemon and baking soda formula. If you simply wanted more citrate, than its likely to be a more baking soda is added than the original one which were (8 teaspoon of lime plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda) to be a pH of about 7.5.

Also, I could not confirm the original source of information of Dr. Tom Revis, other than that one quote that it was taken.

The other problem I have is the acid pH of the initial solution, which is taken to be about 3.5. It's the same problem I had with apple cider vinegar, which must be neutralized to a basically more neutral solution to a pH of 7, otherwise you get burning sensation of the esophagus at pH below 7.

The other issue is that when we prepare the growth of a yeast medium culture (which I might be wrong, but candida is yeast too), one patents uses (Nitrate reductase from yeasts, the preparation and use thereof Document Type and Number: United States Patent 5294539):

3. An NAD(P)H-dependent nitrate reductase according to claim 1, wherein the synthetic nutrient medium contains essentially:

0.04 g/l m-inositol, 1.0 g/l potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 1.0 g/l magnesium sulfate, 4.5 g/l potassium hydrogen tartrate, 1.5 g/l potassium nitrate, and 20.0 g/l glucose.

The cream of tartar is the potassium hydrogen tartrate (other synonyms are potassium hydrogen tartrate cream of tartar, potassium acid tartrate, monopotassium tartrate and potassium bitartrate).

Also in autistics and certain people with a problem of leaky gut, it was found that tartrate to be high and would be toxic to them. While it is true that tartrate is part of the Kreb's cycle, it is also true of citrate, acetates, and malates. The most results of energy increase, and hence, the immune system appears to be the acetates and the malates. While my own experience in achieving superior soda loading (a term atheletes used to achieve lower lactic acidosis), involves either or both maintaining a stable alkaline pH, or getting cells rid of the lactic acid. Now, maintaining alkaline pH, I found that citrates work better than bicarbonates in general. While the body rids of lactic acidosis best with acetate. The problem about acetate use is it won't achieve effective alkalization as with the citrates. So in my opinion the citrates and acetates are preferred to raise the immune system best. As to the problem of tartrates many people with bacteria, or toxins, the bacteria or other organism tends to produce too much tartrates, causing the body to be in excess of tartrate whenever people do get sick. This is especially true of leaky gut syndrome and autistics. A small study attached, below on autistics can be read for your perusal. There are many others.

A book excerpts on tartaric acid (from http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/bookstore/autism.asp#biologicalTretments )is as follows:

"A toxicology manual (3) indicates that tartaric acid is a highly toxic substance. As little as 12 g has caused human fatality with death occurring from 12 hours to 9 days after ingestion. Gastrointestinal symptoms were marked (violent vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain, thirst) and followed by cardiovascular collapse and/or acute renal failure(3). A gram is approximately the weight of a cigarette. This compound especially damages the muscles and the kidney (4,5) and may even cause fatal human nephropathy (kidney damage) (6) which was of interest to me since the two brothers with autism initially evaluated had the extreme muscle weakness as well as evidence of impaired renal function."

One more problem is the level of tartaric acid in autistics is so high that it reaches toxic levels in autistics. The problem about this autistics quite often get yeast infections, whether they are candida albicans or not I don't know. And yeast infections as a result have high heavy metals.

Tartaric acid is not recommended for people with either chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. It decreases the malic acid, and reduces the energy levels. Again if you don't believe me, here is a quote, source (http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/book/bk5sect2.html):

"A large percentage of patients with the disorder fibromyalgia who have high amounts of tartaric acid in the urine respond favorably to treatment with malic acid (11-13). I presume that supplements of malic acid are able to overcome the toxic effects of tartaric acid by supplying deficient malic acid. Fifty percent of patients with fibromyalgia who also frequently have elevated yeast metabolites also suffer from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) even though their diet may have adequate or even excessive sugar(14). The reason may be due to the inhibition of the Krebs cycle by tartaric acid. The Krebs cycle is the main provider of raw materials such as malic acid that can be converted to blood sugar (Figure 6) when the body uses up its supply. (The technical name for this process is gluconeogenesis or "new formation of glucose".) If sufficient malic acid cannot be produced, the body cannot produce the sugar glucose which is the main fuel for the brain. The person with hypoglycemia feels weak and their thinking is foggy because there is insufficient fuel for their brain. If adults with elevated values of tartaric acid in the urine have foggy thinking, have little energy, and are so depressed that they may seek out Dr. Kevorkian, imagine what a young child who has some of the same toxins and who has yet to form a clear concept of the world must feel like."

One other that is not mentioned is heart palpitations, diarrhea, excess sweating, and fainting more likely I think from the excess use of potassium than anything else as this basically skews your blood biochemistry and it is a waste product of yeast."

[WARNING!]  07/19/2008: Joanne from Arroyo Hondo, NM, USA replies: "I very much appreciated the toxicity information listed under cream of tartar in the cures for candida section. I even wonder if I already have damage from using it before (in much lower doses than suggested here, and for arthritis).

My favorite remedy for candida is Huang Lian Su, a chinese herb available at Chinese pharmancies, but not where I am currently living, which brought me to your site. I did take some GSE--grapefruit seed extract--before heading to the grocery to get other remedies to try, and realized as I was shopping, that the symptoms were already subsiding. So GSE might be at the top of my new list of favorite helps for candida.

The toxicity issues around cream of tartar as documented in the "nay" article were very surprizing, and I will never use it again. The levels recommended by someone else posting on this page sound potentially extremely damaging, when compared with the information that follows in that entry. I hope you will remove the suggestion of cream of tartar as a remedy given the extreme hazzards, and the poor public awareness of these hazzards.

Thank you,
Joanne"

[YEA]  10/01/2008: Leigh from Dallas, TX replies: "I vote Yea!

The comments posted for this one intrigued me to do some more research on cream of tartar. Here's what I found. Cream of Tartar is NOT the same thing as Tartaric Acid - although some try to use the names synonymously.

The technical name for Cream of tartar is potassium bitartrate which is not exactly the same as straight tartaric acid. It is formed during the cold stabilization process in wine making and happens when the potassium that naturally occurs in grapes binds with the tartaric acid which also naturally occurs in grapes. Thus diluting (neutralizing) the tartaric acid and making a white crystalline substance called potassium bitartrate.

Let's also note that cream of tartar is a food grade substance which is regulated by the US FDA. It is widely used in baking, as well as some sodas and lots of other foods. If it were that toxic to the consumer, I sincerely doubt the Food and Drug Administration would allow it to be freely used in foods available to everyone!"

11/14/2008: Tina from Dunbridge, Ohio, USA replies: "I have the Inulin, the cream of tartar, but what is, where do I get, and how much is this 1 Flora? I am very interested in trying this formula because acv, baking soda, and borax aren't doing a thing for my systemic candida. Please respond soon!"

EC: Looks like iFlora is a probiotic formula. Search for it on iherb.com.

DIETARY CHANGES

2 YEA

03/14/2009: Mary from Virginia Beach, Virginia writes: "Greetings,

How do you know that you have candida and not some other fungal infection?

Having lived in moldy dwellings for years - no, can't afford to move - I can tell you that all the diets in the world WILL NOT work if you are breathing in airborne mold.

Diet is not the greatest way to deal with infectious disease anyway. Fasting helps if you don't have diabetic/hypoglycemic problems.

Mary"

03/15/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Mary,

Part of the answer to the question you asked is: If the infection occurs following a round or two of antibiotics for infectious disease the most likely culprit is candida albicans, which normally is kept under control by the good guys who reside in our intestines, but run rampant when these good guys are killed off by those antibiotics for some other infection. The reason why diet is good for this infection is because candida loves the acid environment caused by lots of sugars and other sweets and dislikes the alkaline condition of a a better and more nutritious diet. When you read EC you will learn
about alkalinizing your body to get rid of candida and other fungi/molds because they don't like the alkaline condition either.

Eating more nutritiously also makes your immune system healthier & stronger which makes it more likely that you won't need antibiotics for infections, because your immunne system is the hero in keeping you healthy. I was just reading on line recently about the effect that sugar has on your immue system - they knock out your white blood cells which are the ones that fight off the invaders that cause infectious disease."
