[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/18/2007: Carmen from Lawndale, California writes: "I adopted a 12 week old jack russell terrier in june 2006, as recommended by so many pet owners i immediately took her to a vet for an exam and shots. After the well puppy examination she was given all her shots but one, her rabies vaccine. Because of her age that one had to wait. After receiving har rabies shot within hours she started to vomit and shake. Once we got that under control she fell asleep. Within a few minutes she started having seizures they lasted all night. Upon calling the vet in the morning all they said was they'd note it in her file give her benedryl she'll be fine. If not bring her in. never again will my dog have another rabies shot until a blood serum test is given first. After some research I discovered that all dogs regardless of breed, size, or weight are given the same amount of rabies vaccine."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/17/2007: Veronica from Greer, SC writes: "It's me again. The one with the husky/lab mix pups. They just turned 18 mo on Sat.We lost our male this past Mon. He hadn't had any seizures since April 23.Sun. he was having cluster seizures;about every 2-3 hrs. He was howling, barking, and whining after coming out of each one. That is the worst thing my family has ever gone through. My female will NEVER get another booster shot. When I took our male to the vet he said-ironically-this is the age when "epilepsy" shows its ugly head. Duh, this is when people give their dogs their boosters, because you tell us to. I've let everyone I know not to give boosters to their dogs. There is no sense that this wonderful young dog should have died or had to go through this. I truly feel for everyone who has lost a dog so soon after booster vaccinations. It's time to get mad and take action!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/16/2007: Shannon from Kanab, Utah writes: "Reaction to Parvo Booster: Today our Black Lab puppy had his 9 week booster... Almost IMMEDIATELY he started showing signs that something was wrong. Two minutes after the shot, he began vomiting and lost control of his bowels. He then laid on the ground and wasn't very responsive. We took him to a local clinic and they gave him something similar to benedryl and a steroid and fluids under his skin. After about an hour he began to come around, and when we got him home he slept for most of the day. He only vomited once more and the vet told us to give him rice and canned chicken (easy on the stomach). This was VERY scary, but he seems to be pulling out of it ok."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/27/2007: thomas from Monreal, Quebec writes: "Re: Animal Vaccines: Just a note about pets and vets! I have a chihuahua that will be 19 on June 23. When he was 5, I needed to travel with him on a plane, and needed a certificate from my vet. After examination, I was told that not only should he NOT fly, he should be put down due to a heart murmur and poorly functioning kidneys. I took him home, so he could die with me, at his time....well, fourteen years later and not a vaccine since, he is fine! He has off days, and half a joseph's Baby aspirin does him fine! Lets STOP introducing chemicals into our pets bodies!! P.S. Stopped giving him store food as well about two years ago.....pureed steamed veg, ground beef and rice.....pure and simple!! Peace!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/26/2007: Michelle from New York, NY writes: "My dog, a female miniature pinscher, 12 years old, died last November from what I believe to be negative reactions from her vaccinations. I took her in on September 6th, and she received intratract II kennel cough vaccination and a 3-year rabies vaccination. Two weeks later, I came home from work and she was seizuring on the floor. She had NEVER had a seizure in her life. She was an otherwise healthy dog before these vaccinations. On November 12th, she passed away in my arms. The vets refuse to believe it was the vaccinations and say they believe it was a brain tumor, but I know better. Now that I know how harmful vaccinations are, I will never go through this again."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/23/2007: Diane from East Lyme, CT writes: "Vaccination And Seizure with My Yorkshire Terrier: I have a 5 1/2 year old Yorkshire Terrier who is also paralyzed in her left hind leg due to FCE. She was scheduled to have a total hip replacement on May 21st , so I decided to have her vaccinated for rabies and kennel cough. That was on May 10th. Then about 10 days later she started to develop a very deep cough and also had a seizure. She never had any problems before this , except for a mild collapsing trachea. This was her first kennel cough vaccine and I'm beginning to think that the seizure and the cough was the result of the vaccinations. Anybody that might have had similar experiences would be appreciated."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/22/2007: Rich from Phoenix, Arizona writes: "My dog is 17 years and is a bichon mix. He waS NEVER VACCINATED. He was picked up by the pound and vaccinated when he escaped the yard. He now suffers seizures. We need to do something to stop dog pounds from causing dogs such problems."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/17/2007: Mike from Levittown, PA writes: "Our 5 month old lab just died suddenly after a visit to the vet. He got a booster and rabies shot. He got his shots around 1PM and by 7PM he had grown sluggish and eventually crawled under our bed and passed. He was fine when my wife left the house for 2 hours only to return to find him. My daughter wondered what was up with him, but didn't know to worry. None of us did. We've never heard of pets dying from boosters. We're not sure it's the shots just yet. The vet is performing tests, but I'd be surprised if it was something else.

He was just a pup!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  05/08/2007: Brandi from Garibaldi Highlands, British Columbia writes: "I have an American Eskimo that is 9 years old and recently went in for a bordatella vacination. This was his 9th year of the vacination but first in Canada. Within minutes of getting the vaccine he had his first seizure. It scared me to death and the doctor told me it was because my dog was over excited. This breed is always excited and not once have I ever had a problem with seizure before. The only difference from this vaccine and the others is that the doctor put on a muzzle so he was not allowed to sneeze. My other dog, whom got the same vaccine the same day, was allowed to sneeze as normal and nothing happened to him (same breed). I don't know if this has anything to do with this but it is a difference. Also the manufacturer of the medication could be different."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/29/2007: Stephanie from Burlington, New Jersey writes: "When veterinarians administer vaccines, they normally have a set place of where a specific vaccine is given. For example, a canine distemper shot is usually given in the left shoulder. Sometimes the pet has thick skin that is hard to puncture, or the pet will move when the vaccine is administered. This can cause a small bump in the area that can remain for up to 2 weeks. If any itching, rash, or swelling occurs in that area, the pet should be taken to a veterinarian to have it examined. If you feel that your pet is uncomfortable after a vaccine, apply an ice cube and some witch hazel to the area to reduce swelling. Vaccine discomfort is very common, and your pet will most likely be sleepy for a day after getting an injection."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/25/2007: Veronica from Greer, SC writes: "It's me again. My male had another seizure on mon.I have done some more research and there is hope. If you look into epilepsy in dogs(this is the fallback "disease" the vets will tell you your dog has)on the web you will find one very helpful site. It gives some homeopathic options to rid the vaccines from their bodies along with some steroids. Also it seems a lot of breeds are more prone-my mix of husky & lab are both. Search the web and get all the info you can. Look into titer testing and waivers that keep your pets from ever being revaccinated because of the seizures. Educate everyone you know who has pets as to the side effects. The more people know the more we can speak up and stop the unnecessary hurting of our companions!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/18/2007: Jill writes: "Hi; I was reading the information on your website about reactions from vaccinations. I took my 12 1/2 year old Border Collie to the vet yesterday and got her yearly shots. She had the Bordetella and Distemper/Hepatitis,parainf/parvo shots. That was at 10:55 am. At 5:30pm...she had the first of 3 seizures..all in the span of 30 minutes. She has never had a seizure before and I gave her 2 benadryl..to calm her.. She didn't have any more seizures. the rest of the night..and I took her to have a blood panel this morning. We are waiting for the results..probably by Monday. I think it was a reaction to the shots..what do you think? Sincerely, Jill"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Some vaccines tend to add mercury, aluminum or monosodium glutamate which causes long term neural disorder, and not just a reaction. Sometimes adding 10 cc of DMSO into one liter of drinking water helps detoxify the heavy metals and allows oxygen to reach the brain reducing the long term neural effects. A small amount of coriander mixed to the food (a couple of leaves) also help reduce the seizures and long term effect by removing heavy metals."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/16/2007: Veronica from Greer, SC writes: "On 4-7-07 I had my 2 husky/lab mixes' rabies and DHPP (whatever that is )boosters given. On 4-14 my male had his first seizure. It was absolutely horrifying! I am still upset. I took him to the vet that a.m.,and had a blood test(?) all seemed to be normal, so he suggested possible epilepsy. My mom-in-law does rescue and said one of hers gets seizures after her vaccine. So if this is the cause why must this be a law that we have to abide by? So we kill our kids with vaccines over the diseases and now we have to kill our pets too? I have recently declined to have my children given any further vaccinations and if there is anyway possible I want to do the same for my dogs. He is "different" whiny, hyper, doesn't seem to want to be alone, his personality is a little off. My female was at the vet on 4-13 and she was growling (not like her) at people. While there, I read in a dog magazine about a holistic vet that said that the vaccines given when puppies should last 7-15 years! So why this stupid law? From what I've read rabies is contracted more by bats than anything else. What's the chances of a dog being bitten by a bat and getting rabies? How do we get these ridiculous laws changed?"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/12/2007: chris from Escondido, California writes: "I have a five month old puppy. Her name is Starbuck. She is now having seizures.

Funny but when we first got her she was a jewel, smart, calm and everyday we were amazed at how wonderful a dog she was. As good dog owners we took her to get her shots. Everything started happening AFTER she started her shot series. First she was vaccinated against Parvo. One week after getting the shot, she contracted Parvo, we almost lost her not to mention the 2000,00 we paid to put her in the hospital. She was house bound to decrease the chances of getting Parvo. How she contracted is debatable i suspect it was the vaccines. She survived and of course we were thrilled. We bonded, trained her to do amazing tricks and welcomed her as a part of our family. She was house bound still at this point. All was well and to continue being the responsible dog owners we are, continued with her shots.. one week after receiving her third set of vaccinations, she began having seizures.

Now our sweet dog is having seizures on a weekly basis. I will not elaborate on how stressful and heart breaking as well as expensive this is but I completely understand all the emotions other dog owners are having when their pet goes through this.

We are now on the usual drugs which are not really working. She cant go out to play or anything that causes excitement. If she has too much fun she suffers from seizures when she goes to sleep. The seizures have become clusters mainly on the weekends.

They have not told us that because they happen in her sleep, that may be "significant". Translation: Now we have to go to a specialist. We cannot afford this and if the is what the vet tells us, we will have to make the decision to either give her away or have her put to sleep. THis is heart breaking to say the least.

I believe that these problems are caused by vaccinations. I am not a veterinarian, i am just looking at cause and effect.

Another reason I believe that vaccinations are the culprit is the experience i had with my ferret Duke. Duke was a healthy, fun loving house bound ferret, and being the responsible pet owners we are we took Duke to the vet to get his first series of shots. He had an immediate reaction to the shot and suffered an allergic reaction. One to two weeks after receiving his shots he began to get sick, no one could tell us why. I tried to save him, staying up nights, forcing food and everything else I could do to help him, but he just wasted away and after losing so much weight and suffering a seizure we had him put to sleep. They never determined the cause and we spent 3,000 on tests.

Shots are a necessary evil I understand but I also believe that they kill our animals, cause family members all sorts of heartbreak and drain our bank accounts. My only hope is that if we ever decide to bring another animal into our house we pray that they will survive the vaccinations."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/07/2007: Carol from Plant City, Florida writes: "Last year I had both my fox terriers vaccinated and I have never had a problem before, but this time was different.... After my 2 year old male terrier was given all the supposedly necessary shots he began limping....he had a large swollen area near his right front shoulder /neck area and could hardly walk...My female dog 8 years old also had a swollen area but appeared fine at first... I took them back to the vet and he said I just babied them too much but gave the younger dog some type of antiinflammatory meds....It took over 2 weeks for him to walk better and still had a swollen area for quite awhile...Then the female dog started acting funny and started limping on her back leg....vet again thinks we are all crazy and after a month finally did alot of tests costing alot of money....finding out she hurt her knee area and would just have to wait it out....but I think her injury was caused by an initial reaction to the shots...and then she was injured. Well I think that the vaccination brought this whole thing about and am not sure which shots they had a reaction to....and it is time to vaccinate them again and I am just puttin it off and plan to go to another vet.....but I have no choice but vaccinate them or I will not be able to board them this summer for vacation..."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  04/01/2007: Dalia from Winchester, United Kingdom writes: "Re: Metcam (allergic reaction). I had Teddy, a 2 year old pekingese who put his back out. The vet injected him with Metacam and within hours he had breathing problems and the next morning he died. The vet admitted the death was caused by an allergic reaction to the Metacam and he did what he could to counter balance the reaction but to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem?"

EC: Metacam is widely prescribed to provide relief from both acute and chronic pain in dogs, and acute pain in cats. It is licensed for use in dogs (injectable and oral forms), but is only currently licensed in cats for use in the injectable form.

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/30/2007: Ronda from San Jacinto, Ca writes: "I just gave my 10 week old Doxie his second set of vaccinations. About an hour and a half later, he started throwing up and coughing. He is currently being treated for kennel cough, but now I'm concerned his immune system is compromised. Should I be concerned enough to run him to the vet? He did eat and drink a bit after he was done being sick. I'm very concerned considering our former pup died of parvo. We used a bleach/water solution and disinfected everything we could. Could my new pup have contracted parvo even though we cleaned everything? Or is his reaction from the actual vaccinations. Any advice would be welcomed."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/25/2007: Jim from Pecos, NM writes: "I have had real problems regarding vaccinations for my dogs. Pups that have died a few days after getting a parvo vaccination. I see stories here now and its quite clear that likely these shots are not very safe for our pets. There was an article in dog fancy magazine a few years back about over immunization damaging our dogs' immune system. For us older folks weren't we taught that once any immune system is exposed to a virus-disease it will be (if survived the experience) immune for life from whatever the version. Yet today we are taught by Vets-Drug Pharmacy companies that we must protect our pets yearly for life. Hog wash. The only disease I see in dogs that is a real deadly problem is Parvo. It is so prevalent everywhere. I was told by one Lab that makes one Live Modified Parvo Vaccine- (yah that I used and had several dead pups after) this company told me that once vaccinated the dogs become lifetime carriers and shed the virus periodically . Thus the reason Parvo is so prevelant-widespread-is because we vaccinate so much against it. It's now hard to find a dead killed Parvo vaccine-which would not ever be spreadable. Of course its a bonanza for a vaccine company not to want to rid the world of a virus-so no wonder you can't find the dead killed versions anymore - we have such a greedy group - thinking money - not good health. If anybody has any results of trying to heal an infected pup with parvo using H202 please speak up. I am beginning to experiment with it as a curative remedy for Parvo which can be so difficult and expensive to treat a pet."

06/03/2008: Adam from Sherman Oaks, California replies: "There is a product that is suppose to help dogs against Parvo if god forbid your dog gets get it is called Parvaid and it is a all natural herbal remedy!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/18/2007: Kelly from Denver, Colorado writes: "I am very concerned about vaccinations my two pugs received. My female pug had an allergic reaction and vomited an hour after her vaccinations. I also wanted to let everyone know she is only 5 years old and about a week after her vaccinations she had lost a significant amount of her hearing and a lump appeared on her right shoulder. I took her back to the vet and he said she just has allot of hair in her ears, but she use to hear much better until she had the vaccinations. I am also concerned that she had a lump appear on her right shoulder. It appears to have gone down after about a week, however all this concerns me. HAs anyone else expereinced this with their dogs or cats? Concerned animal lover!"

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/18/2007: Renee from Phoenix, AZ writes: "I have a maltese who received her vaccinations and 9 days later I found a growth. It turned out to be a mast cell tumor. I believe that her vaccinations either caused or made her tumor grow."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/08/2007: Lorie from Charlotte, NC writes: "I definitely believe that the booster shots cause seizures in dogs. I had a Samoyed who received a rabies shot. She had gotten loose and was picked up by the dog warden. When I went to pick her up, they asked me if she had had her rabies vaccination. I said it had just expired about a month prior. They would not let me get her out unless she got her rabies shot, so I said ok. I had not gotten them their shots, because I had heard of the controversy of vaccinations and so I had held off so that I could do some research. But instead I had to let them administer it to her in order to get her out of the dog pound. About 2-3 weeks later she had her first seizure. I was scared to death because I had never seen anything like it. I started trying to figure out what could have caused it, and thinking over the recent events to try and come up with a reason for her to have had a seizure. The only thing I could figure is that she had just had the rabies shot. Since I am in the medical field, I went into work and looked up the rabies vaccination in the Physicians Desk Reference. Low and behold, right there in the "side effects" it states that it CAN CAUSE SEIZURES. After doing some research on the internet, I found other cases where dogs had had rabies shots and had started having seizures as well. Now, I know that in the US, dog owners are required by law to have rabies shots every year or two. So for those of you who don't know this, you can have what is called a "titer" drawn. It is a blood test to determine if your pet is still immune or not. If they are, they do not need the shot and you can use that for proof, if you ever have the authorities question you. When an animal is already immune to rabies, and they are given another shot, it overloads their nervous system, and that is what causes the seizures. I unfortunately had to learn this the hard way. My Samoyed has been dead now for 3 years. I still cry to this day over her. She was like one of my children and she should still be alive today. So I hope this helps others to prevent this from happening to their dearly loved pets."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  03/04/2007: Lisa from Bastrop, Tx writes: "I have just read that epilepsy in dogs can be contributed to booster vaccinations. I have a terrier/border collie mix that I rescued from the pound in 1994. She was estimated to be 8 mos old. About 18 months later she began have epileptic seizures. I have moved a few times since then, but I will be going through my files to see if I have any medical records for her dating back to 1995. It would be interesting to see if she had received any shots close to the onset of the first seizure. She continues to have seizures at random and have become more severe over the years."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  02/21/2007: Deb from Watertown, MN writes: "There is some evidence that epilepsy in dogs can be caused by all the unnecessary booster vaccinations. Dogs usually start having seizures at 2 years old after their booster shots are given. Most vaccinations given puppies should last their lifetime. Check the internet for more detailed information on this subject. This I know is not a remedy but possibly a preventative."
