[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Denise M. from Detroit, Mi writes: "Greetings to my fellow reflux suffers:

After reading all the feedback on this site, I can't tell you how things have changed for me.

I was diagnosed with reflux a few years back, and prescribed the usual regiment of acid blockers. That worked until a recent flare left me burning incessantly all day long. After a trip to my gastro doc; I had an egd(throat scope) to see if any cancer was present, then put on a monitor that I wore for 48 hours recording times and ate/drank while sitting, standing, or laying down. It was determined I probably be on medication for the rest of my life.

I was prescribed dual therapy that included Omeprazole and ranitadine before bed. Then I ran across this website, and others that wanted to charge to download the natural remedies described as probably already in your kitchen.
I left work that day, chest burning even after medication, and went to the nearest health food store, and bought my bottle of ACV. I mixed it with a level teaspoon of baking soda, two level tablespoons of ACV,and a cup of water.

While I'm hesitant to use the word "cure", sustained relief is putting it mildly. No more medication folks, and after the first week of on for 5 days off for two, I now just use as needed.

Thanks for all the sharing
Respectfully
DMason

[YEA] Karen from Deland, Fl writes: "Hello - I have been reading this forum for a while now and would like to comment on what has worked for me for GERD and I have also had a spell of rapid pulse that seems to be more under control. I have used Ted's recommendation of ACV and baking soda. One week ago I had a very bad reaction to pizza. My stomach (under breastbone) was tightening and making loud gurgling noises. I've also been suffering from anxiety after recently losing my job. My heart felt like it was in an empty cavity with alot of gas. I'm 59 years old and I can remember over 25 years ago going into the hospital where they performed an ultrasound on my stomach. I forget now what the problem was that I was having the procedure done, maybe pregnancy? Anyways, as the nurse was sliding the scope all over my stomach she said,"You have alot of gas." My question is can gas affect your heart rate? I know the body is made up of gases and fluid, etc. which brings me to my next question, why do conventional doctors constantly harp that all of our "numbers" should be the same. Why should my pulse be the same as my neighbors, why should everyone's blood pressure expected to be 120/80? The list goes on. We are all different. There seems to be alot more to it than what we are being told. It's all about scaring us with their hype, selling more drugs and pushing more surgical procedures. ACV and baking soda has worked well for me and I thank God I found this site. Most of what I read and Ted's recommendation make perfect sense to me. I also want to mention the incident with the pizza was an eye opener for me, I know now I had a bad reaction to gluten. Gluten can cause scary symptoms that you think may be your heart when, in fact, it's digestion causing the pain. Unfortunately, gluten is everywhere. If you think you may have had an episode caused by gluten read the label of what you are buying and if you are still unsure check with the manufacturer. Also, stay away from the obvious products that you know contain gluten. I've been gluten free for a week now and feel so much better."

[SIDE EFFECTS] Stephanie from Eugene, Or writes: "I have suffered from acid reflux and hair loss for about 3 years. I tried Ted's recipe of ACV and baking soda in water, I liked the taste of it. I had to put about 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda to 2 tablespoons of ACV in 8 oz of water inorder to reach 7.0 acid level. I think the large amount of baking soda is making me retain water, I feel very puffy and scale is up. I'd appreciate feedback if others have experienced this. Thank you. Love this site."

[YEA] Victoria from Sydney, Australia writes: "I started using apple cider vinegar (approx 1-2 tablespoon) with baking soda (1 teaspoon) in 750ml of water, and 1/8 teaspoon in borax every morning, and the same mixture again at night (without the borax). It has only been about 10days since I started doing this.

It has reduced all of my bloating, increased my energy, my stomach is almost flat again! This is something that I couldn't even achieve as a personal trainer and working out 6 days a week. I think I'm even passing some parasites (or what looks like parasites- little white things). My body is getting back to what I looked like as a teenager. Its amazing!

Also it is keeping by bm's 'regular', which has been an issue for me in the past.

I have not changed my diet at all, but I now no longer take sugar in my coffee, as I don't like the sweet taste (since starting the remedy). Also I'm not hungry all the time like I used to be!

Thanks goodness for Earth Clinic!

I believe I got GERD from excessive beer drinking. I have now been living with this disease for 3 months. I've been to the doc and I was treated for H pilory bacteria. However, no change in my symptoms. I have been taken over the counter prilosec two different kinds and now I'm taking Nexium. However, there is little change. when I go to bed my stomach just start generating bubles that go up to my throath and completely burns it. I read this site that acv/baking soda 2x or 3x works. I stopped the nexium today and my gas has returned and I'm really scared that tomorrow I will wake up with my chicks swollen like before. AM I on the right treatment? how long before I see some progress? should I add something else? I thank you for any help you can provide

[YEA] Karl from Boynton Beach, Fl writes: "I recently recovered from a particular heavy bout of upper resporitary infection (uri) / bronchitus. It took 14 days before I started feeling better. Two days later I started the classic symptoms again, tight chess, wheezing. I decided, thats it, off to the ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor. I described all my symptoms, frequent bouts of bronchitus. He put this scope down my nose and throat and nonchalantly exclaimed "You have acid reflux", prescribed aciphex (ppi) and strong cortisone to clear up my congested sinusses.I must add that up to this point, I never had reflux or experienced the sensation of food coming up my esouphagus. Within 6 days of starting the aciphex, I started experiencing extreme nausea, I could hardly keep any food down and constantly had the sensation of food/fluid coming up my esouphagus. I could no longer sleep at night and frequently woke up with the sensation of drowining. I woke up exhausted everymorning with a very hoarse voice. I started getting the sensation that something is stuck in my throat, I stopped taking the aciphex and went to see an internist, described my symptoms, he prescribed an h2 blocker, pepcid and a mobility pill to clear my stomach. I started drinking the mobility pill before each meal, and the pepcid at night. Within 3 days, my digestion stopped completely, food would sit in my stomach all day and not digest. Went back to see him, told him whats happening, he ordered upper gi with barium x-rays and a ct scan of the lower abdomen and pelvis. After calling the medical aid to find how much I would have to pay out of pocket, I decided to stop this nonsense. 8 weeks and I am worse off than when I started, so I started taking organic apple cider vinegar with baking soda on Dec 2nd 2009. I am astounded and ecstatic to say that today Dec 4 2009, I have not had any sensation of food stuck in my throat or food / fluid coming up my esouphagus. One positive thing that came out of this is that I had to re-evaluate my diet and stress levels. I lost 12 pounds in 8 weeks due to small portions I have to eat now. I will carry on with a predominantly fruit based diet and one larger meal with chicken etc per day for the next couple of days and gradually introduce other foods to see what effect they have.

Thankoyu thankyou thankyou, ACV has saved my life!"

[YEA] Gg from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia writes: "I thought it was time to share my positive feedback on weight loss through drinking Apple Cider Vinegar and Bicarb Soda (sodium bicarbonate).

I'm 28 and have been taking the pill for about 5 years and recently decided I should have a break. I had gained a couple of extra kilos over the years that became increasingly hard to shift. Every year it was only a little bit but it all adds up, and like my dad says, half a kilo a year = very overweight by the time you're in your 50's! I'd always been very slim and didn't tend to put on weight, despite the fact I used to "eat for Australia" -- much to most people's jealousy. I could basically eat whatever I liked at whatever time of day. I eventually just attributed the cellulite and extra "puppy fat" to getting older and gave up trying to get back to my late teenage size. We're only talking about a size and a half bigger here but it was the fact that I just COULDN'T get rid of the fat that got me down. I was also having major migraines around the time of menstruation and the pill I was taking was really expensive, so I decided to have a break, I figured it would do me good.

Immediately the fat started dropping off! This was bitter-sweet for me, as it confirmed my suspicions but it also meant I was always going to have to deal with the extra kilos if I wanted to avoid "oops" children (other contraception didn't work well for me).

Eventually I had such bad skin problems (I guess it was like a "withdrawal"?) that I started back on it. But I'd effortlessly dropped almost 2 sizes and was able to get back into old jeans I'd given up on, all whilst eating like I used to - it was so liberating! I was chuffed!

Before I started taking the BC pill again I started with a regimen of ACV twice a day. I've been using it on and off for about a year and found it kept colds and flu at bay, helped me get better quicker and relieved a lot of muscle cramps I get from sitting at a computer all day. NOT to mention the candida probs it helps fix! I am a chronic thrush sufferer and the best "help" I've been able to get from the medical community is "Oh well, some women are just prone to it". YAY! Coming from a male doctor. Ie. "Just deal with it". If you suffer this problem you will know what I mean when I say it can make you beside yourself, on an emotional level, when you can't stop it, get rid of it or even enjoy eating any of the foods you like. And the discomfort of being incredibly itchy ALL the time! Anyway that's a post for the "candida" part of this website. :-) Suffice it to say ACV keeps things in my digestive tract fairly under control, even when I eat known "aggravators".

So I started having 2 Tbsp with about a level tsp of bicarb each morning and evening (for thrush at that stage). I have been back on the pill for a month and a half AND I've been eating all the wrong foods (ie. Pasta, bread, some snacks, pastries and sugary treats at the movies) and my weight remains the same. I'm very surprised. I've found I have a lot more freedom in what I can eat without suffering weight-gain or side effects of digestive complaints. I've also started using it on my face as a toner at night after I cleanse - it was the only thing that helped clear up the massive acne outbreak I had when I went off the pill. I use it straight and apply with a cotton pad, then rinse off after about 20 seconds. Stings a bit but you know it's working!

I can't say enough good things about ACV!"

[SIDE EFFECTS] Bee from Usa, Usa writes: "ACV/Baking Soda Side Effects

I have had trouble with stomach problems for years now- heartburn/acid-reflux- burps where the acid comes all the way back up my throat (yuck!) and stomach pain, etc. I decided to try the ACV and baking soda- used the dosages Ted recommends- just took it once in the evening. I had stopped drinking coffee too (I know that doesn't help)- yet I was having bad stomach pain and really bad nausea- to the point I had to lay my head down bc I thought I was going to vomit. I stopped and it's okay now- about like it was before- not perfect. Could I have an ulcer? I feel like my stomach can't tolerate this remedy. I was taking kefir to help- I think I will go back to that.

[QUESTION] Fajar from Beppu, Oita, japan writes: "Dear Mr. Ted,

i am now trying the ACV for my acid reflux. 1 tblspoon 8oz water, 3 times a day. Already been on it for 3 days now. doesn't seem to give me much difference.

However, I am really intrigued with the ted's apple cider and baking soda recipe, and as far as my logic goes, i feel that it makes sense. however, i read from some other websites, that the prolong used of baking soda will kill good bacteria in your digestive tract, in addition, i quote this from another website

"if you take too much baking soda, or any antacid medication, then the stomach acid itself can be neutralized. The result is that the stomach cells produces more acid to compensate. You then end up taking more baking soda or antacid to neutralize the excess acid. Eventually you can exhaust the stomach cells and the level of stomach acid can decline. Great for your heartburn perhaps, but not so good for your digestion. The level of stomach acid can fall so much that it impairs digestion and food cannot be broken down properly. The result of this can be allergies and inflammation in other areas of the body.

Is this side effect true? Will there be any significant difference if I use the baking soda recipe? because the apple cider vinegar only does not seem to give me much relief, at least yet.

also, i'm south east asian (from indonesia), if that is of importance.

please reply mr.Ted, i am really desperate. if i healed, i'll donate for sure.

thank you.

[YEA] Cathy from Adelaide, South Australia writes: "I had suffered acid reflux for around 6 months and after having xrays and an endoscopy the doctor found no obvious cause and said to keep on with Somac, which wasn't really helping at all. In desperation several weeks ago I was on the net looking for an answer and came across your site. I went out and bought apple cider vinegar and began taking it with bicarb soda. I slept better than I had in months and my symptoms started to improve. I took 2 tablespoons in 1/2 a glass of water with 1/4 tsp of bicarb soda before breakfast and dinner. The acid reflux caused a very sore throat, burnt the roof of my mouth, sinuses were painful, nausea, a lump in my stomach etc, etc. All in all I was miserable. I stopped taking ACV and only take when I feel the symptoms (very mild) start to surface. Thank you for sharing many helpful remedies and improving peoples lives. If only doctors were more open to alternative remedies."

Judy29 from Sewell, Nj, US writes: "I was recently diagnosed with laryngopharngeal reflux about 6 months ago. My doctor has me on Prilosec and it does not seem to be working. I have tried the ACV and baking soda and cannot drink it. I am not one to take medication and would like to find a remedy. Can you offer any alternatives?"

[SIDE EFFECTS] Golditoo from Rockport, Mass., Usa writes: "Hello:

I wonder if someone could shed some light on this: I've been taking the ACV and baking soda together: (1 tbl and 1/4 tsp) and actually enjoy the taste. Ironically, my father, who lived to be 100 and took no medications but baking soda for upset stomach his whole life, lived independently until his late 90s. I never suspected a connection between his health and longevity until I started reading all the posts on this site.

Anyway, since taking the ACV and BS, I suspect it has an affect upon my thyroid. I've been taking thyroid meds for hypothyroidism for decades. Lately I've had a terrible problem with sleep; I'm awake the whole night. And I'm sweating a lot. IN the past this was a sign that my thyroid meds were too strong. I've lowered the dosed (my endocrinologist thinks I'm wacky, doing this on my own) because this wakefulness is a torment, night after night.

What I would like to know--from Ted, if he is available, or others--is if anyone has experienced this situation. I suspect the ACV has increased my metabolism.
I hope to hear from someone re this situation. I'll add my praise to this site: there's nothing else like it.

All best,

Golditoo"
