I have been in touch directly with the company and have been reassured of its absolute purity meaning there is no aluminum in it. Arm and Hammers is as aluminum free as Bob's Red Mill, which advertizes itself specifically to be aluminum free, and in the process has convinced most people I know that Arm and Hammers has aluminum when it does not....

Bill from San Fernando, Philippines writes: "An Old Baking Soda Flu Cure

Hi Everyone...I found an old letter, written by a prominent physician in 1924 -- a Dr Volney S. Cheney -- to Church and Dwight concerning the use of a certain well-known brand of Baking Soda that we all know. Here is his letter which is shown for historic interest only:

"In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the 'Flu' with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely any one who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks. I have since that time treated all cases of 'Cold,' Influenza and LaGripe by first giving generous doses of Bicarbonate of Soda, and in many, many instances within 36 hours the symptoms would have entirely abated. Further, within my own household, before Woman's Clubs and Parent-Teachers' Associations, I have advocated the use of Bicarbonate of Soda as a preventive for "Colds," with the result that now many reports are coming in stating that those who took "Soda" were not affected, while nearly every one around them had the "Flu."

Recommended dosages from the A & H Company for colds and influenza back in 1925 were:

During the first day take six doses of half teaspoonful of A & H Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at about two hour intervals.

During the second day take four doses of half teaspoonful of A and H Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals.

During the third day take two doses of half teaspoonful of A and H Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter half teaspoonful in glass of cool water each morning until cold is cured."

That's the way they alkalized in the old days...!!

The letter is taken from the WellSphere(discussion forum) website here:

Barbara from Greenbrae, Ca writes: "I have been researching all the info I can find about whether it's safe to take baking soda to reduce acid in the stomach/body. (I have gastritis and GERD). The conclusive evidence I've found states that NO, it isn't safe-- if you add bicarbonate to the stomach and blood directly, over time it actually interferes with the body's natural ability to produce necessary acid for digestion. For example, many OTC remedies such as Tums aren't made to be taken on a regular basis, just for an emergency aid now and then. So I just wanted to share this perspective, since so many folks are adding baking soda to ACV, or drinking it alone on a daily basis. I'm going for barley juice to alkalinize, plus the proper diet, supplements, etc.. Barbara"

[QUESTION] Phil from Dearing, Ga/usa writes: "Hello to all. I was wondering about some things I have read and need to know the differance.

It is said as people get older that their stomach acid decreases and maybe Iodine should be supplemented.

Then it is said to take baking soda on an empty stomach before meals to help with alkalinty.

My questions is... Would the baking soda decrease stomach acid futher or is there a differance???Someone please answer this if you know.

Also, say I want to use blackstrap molasses for sweet tea, instead of sugar. I currently use a half of cup of sugar per gallon of tea. How much Blackstrap would be equivalent?

Thanks in advance!"

While doing some house cleaning using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water it occured to me to try that for a face wash for him. I made a paste and have him use it every morning and every night ~ he uses it like any other facial cleanser and it has been fantastic! The pimples have shrunk in size and many are gone.
WhiteBear from Ogden, Utah writes: "This is actually a question, not a comment. Someone online here said, "Due to my corn allergy I had to pull out the baking powder and do the baking soda/apple cider vinegar substitution... also had to skip the honey, good news is - I just don't think you can mess this one up." I'm sorry, but I don't have any idea who it was that said this. My question is: I too am trying to eliminate baking powder completely from all my bread recipes and elsewhere, as I am allergic to both corn and wheat. This person did not say how she used the baking soda/apple cider vinegar substitution in place of baking powder. If she or anyone who remembers or knows could post this information for me, I would be very grateful indeed.

Also, I did find something about using either cornstarch and baking soda or cornstarch, baking soda, and arrowroot as a substitute for baking powder, but I did not find either one of these satisfactory. They seemed to me to just not work out satisfactorily at all and, in addition, arrowroot is really expensive to buy - certainly enough to break my budget.

Baking Soda: For Cooking, Cleaning, And Kidney Health?

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/07/090716201123.htm

ScienceDaily (July 17, 2009) "A daily dose of sodium bicarbonate -- baking soda, already used for baking, cleaning, acid indigestion, sunburn, and more-- slows the decline of kidney function in some patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), reports an upcoming study in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN). "This cheap and simple strategy also improves patients' nutritional status, and has the potential of translating into significant economic, quality of life, and clinical outcome benefits," comments Magdi Yaqoob, MD (Royal London Hospital).

The study included 134 patients with advanced CKD and low bicarbonate levels, also called metabolic acidosis. One group received a small daily dose of sodium bicarbonate in tablet form, in addition to their usual care. For this group, the rate of decline in kidney function was greatly reduced--about two-thirds slower than in patients. "In fact, in patients taking sodium bicarbonate, the rate of decline in kidney function was similar to the normal age-related decline," says Yaqoob.

Rapid progression of kidney disease occurred in just nine percent of patients taking sodium bicarbonate, compared to 45 percent of the other group. Patients taking sodium bicarbonate were also less likely to develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis.

Patients taking sodium bicarbonate also had improvement in several measures of nutrition. Although their sodium levels went up, this didn't lead to any problems with increased blood pressure.

Low bicarbonate levels are common in patients with CKD and can lead to a wide range of other problems. "This is the first randomized controlled study of its kind," says Yaqoob. "A simple remedy like sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), when used appropriately, can be very effective."

The researchers note some important limitations of their study%uFFFDthere was no placebo group and the researchers were aware of which patients were receiving sodium bicarbonate. "Our results will need validation in a multicenter study," says Yaqoob.

Other authors were Ione de Brito-Ashurst, RD, Mira Varaganum, PhD, and Martin J. Raftery, MD (William Harvey Research Institute and Barts and the London NHS Trust, London). The authors reported no financial disclosures.

[YEA] Kristinad from West Valley City, Utah writes: "I got a case of ring worm that seemed to appear out of no where. The area felt itchy for several days and then a patch a bit smaller than a dime appeared. It was a very classic circle with little mounded dots around the edge and red in the whole circle and it itched like crazy. I looked on your sight for a cure and tried several including the penny-in-vinegar etc. Some helped a little others made it worse.

When it first appeared I had tried plain Baking Soda which definitely calmed it down but it did not disappear. I decided to try it again with a little vaper rub like Vicks from the dollar store, to hold it in place. It worked immediately and in two days was totally gone. I was very happy!

Baking soda has worked miracles for me in many ways, including getting rid of mouth infections and a patch of eczema on my elbow that had been there for years.

It is the first thing I turn to for a sugar reaction. Just a tiny amount on the tip of my finger clears up all kinds of problems. For skin surface problems, mostly I have just made a paste of BS and water and allowed it to dry but now I have tried it with the Vicks like product and with Triple Antibiotic that works better as it holds it at the sight. I do not know what would work in the mouth, not that of course!

I believe we are all different and the differences in our natural body chemistry makes things react differently for all of us so we have to find what is right for us. I love this sight as it has so many wonderful ideas and I've had a lot of success with different cures. Thanks so much!

One more thought I have, is I feel it is important to not over do on natural remedies. When I see people saying they take something everyday after it first worked it makes me wonder. If you do it too often and too much when you do not really need it, then where are you going to get the lift you need when you have another problem. Moderation, I believe, is a wise course, but everyone is different and has to find what works for them.

Many people have patella Tendinitis and continue to live and workout. I stopped working out completely and found myself becoming more and more sedentary. I live one block from the beautiful Pacific Ocean and I wouldn't even walk to the ocean because the pain in my knees had gotten that bad. I even started using a cane to get around. About 3 weeks ago my younger sister recommended that I boil some water and take 2Tbl spoons of ACV and that every morning I should drink 6oz of water with 1/4tsp of baking soda. I am an avid baker who has a gluten allergy so I never get to eat what I bake but I always have fresh baking soda on hand. I didn't have the ACV so I just started drinking the baking soda every morning and OMG I have been smiling from cheek to cheek because my pain has gone away.
[YEA] Kelly from Farmersville, California writes: "Baking Soda As Stomach Ache Remedy: About two years ago, a bunch of us went out to dinner, and I ended up eating too much. My stomach began to hurt and I immediately regretted eating the way I did. Afterwards, we all went to my cousin's house to watch the fights on TV. My stomach was killing me the whole time we were there. I tried walking around a bit, but it did nothing to help the problem. My cousin knew exactly what to do about this problem and mixed some baking soda in a glass of water. He told me to drink it down quickly. I drank about half of it and my stomach immedatley rebelled. I, honest to God, thought I was going to hurl! I managed to swallow the rest of the mixture, and before long, my stomach ache was gone. It produces results soon after getting up for the day, muscle pains are much less and after doing this for several days my knee pain is gone. There is no happiness like an empty rectum.
