ACTIVATED CHARCOAL AND URINE
03/16/2008: Mateo from Hummelstown, Pennsylvania writes: "A week ago I took 2 doses of Activated Charcoal Slurry on consecutive days, and ever sinse I have had heavy duty golden orange urine discharge. Am wondering if this normal with Activated Charcoal? Does it normally cause golden orange urine and if so how long does it last? Mateo"
03/01/2009: John Dinsley (author of Charcoal Remedies) from Crawford, Nebraska replies: "No it is not usual. Activated charcoal is used to remove color pigments from foods in the food industry. When charcoal poultices have been placed over the kidneys it has been reported by some that the white edges of the poultice (cloth or paper) turn yellow while the poultice reeks of urine.
Usually colored urine is an indicator of drinking too little water. If one drinks adequate water the urine will appear clear. Beets, carrots, asparagus and other vegetables are known to rapidly and profoundly affect the urine in some individuals.
Activated charcoal has been reported to relieve UTI in some severe cases, but the association of charcoal use and colored urine seems to be an anomaly."

BUYING CHARCOAL IN BULK?
03/31/2007: Gordon from Roundup, Montana writes: "My grandmother used to give powdered charcoal to everyone with anything wrong with them. Also followed by a spoon of codliver oil. I have used it all my life and would like to continue to use it. But, since it is a component of gunpowder it has been taken off the market in bulk in Washington and Montana and I am sure other states also. I can still get it in capsules but it takes about 10 of them to make a spoon full and the price is outrageous. Is there somewhere that I can get it in bulk? I can build a kiln and make it myself but again cost prohibitive. Thanks in advance for your answer. Gordon"
John Dinsley (author of Charcoal Remedies) replies: "Yes, charcoal is used in black gun powder - for the old flintlock rifles. The Chinese were the first to use charcoal in black powder for fireworks and it is even used in pyrotechnics in our day. It is also used in fuel cells in the newest hybrid cars and in a thousand other industrial applications.
Charcoal is an enigma! I sympathize with the general skepticism about medicinal charcoal. It is hard to believe that something that has such powerful healing qualities is also used in so many unrelated industrial uses but so is water, air, light, and heat. But, to take bulk charcoal off the market because it is used in gunpowder is about as unintelligent as taking bottled water off the market because it can be used to make scalding steam in saunas, mixed with glycol to make antifreeze, or peel off tree bark under high pressure, or.....
I believe the main reason charcoal is being pulled is because it so effectively adsorbs most medications that certain health authorities are pressuring health food stores to not carry charcoal at all. I know this to be the case in some Provinces in Canada.
Hard to imagine we may one day need a prescription to buy this most benign of natural medicines."
03/01/2009: John from Crawford, Nebraska replies: "It is still very difficult to find activated charcoal powder in local outlets. Most likely you will have to search online. Just Google "Buy Bulk Activated Charcoal" or you can go to www.BuyActivatedCharcoal.com/bulk
john"
