HOW MANY PILLS TO START?

04/18/2008: Betty writes: "Ok I have been reading alot of your readers comments on EVCO and I am amazed with what I am reading so I went out and bought some but in pill form and I also got some ACV. I would like to know which is better the oil or pill. Because it seems like everyone who posted a comment used the oil. Also I have diabetes and want to start using EVCO right away but I don't know if this is wise since I haven't talk to my Doctor about this yet. I wish I had known about these remedies on earthclinic's site sooner maybe I could have helped my mother live longer. I will pass some of what I've learned to my relatives and hope that they take what I tell them seriously enough to at least give it a try. I am SO ready for a change in my life and to help as many family memebrs as I can to live a healthy life style starting with my own kids. This site is really helpful. I got the pill form as I mention before and I would like to know how many pills should we start out taking? The bottle says take 4-8 softgels daily or as directed by your health practioner. Thanks a million for this site."

MAKING COCONUT OIL

04/15/2008: Bob writes: "Well I tried making coconut oil, seems you would need a lot of coconuts to get much oil and it would be very time consuming is that correct ? One coconut gave very little oil. Why would you need a quart of boiling water as it seems a lot for the contents of one coconut . Any comments ? thanks"

IS COCONUT OIL A SATURATED FAT?

04/09/2008: Sharon writes: "I have been told to stay away from coconut oil as it is a saturated fat, I have a heart condition and wondering if this is right . As some of my friends rave about the oil and how good it is for you. Thanks Sharon"

05/16/2008: Kathleen from Rice Lake, WI replies: "Actually, despite what the FDA and other government funded organizations say, Saturated Fats are really good for you! Those are the fats that basically tell calcium where to go. Poly-unsaturated fats are terrible for you! Those are the ones to stay away from. Research saturated fats sometime. They don't raise cholesterol, and they also don't put you at risk for cardiovascular disease, nor do they raise any risk you have of developing it. Definitely look it up! You will learn a lot about what the FDA does and doesn't tell you about certain foods."

06/04/2008: KATIE from TOMS RIVER, NEW JERSEY replies: "FOR KAT..I DO USE IT ON MY SKIN, AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE I FEEL..MY HANDS WERE ALL DRYED, AND WRINKED FROM SOAP, AND DETERGENTS.. AFTER ONE WEEK, THEY ARE SOFTER, AND AGE SPOTS ARE DISSAPEARING..I USE IT ON FACE, MORNING, AND NIGHT..THIS ALSO FEELS SMOOTHER, AND MOISTURIZED. I COOK WITH IT, AND TALE ONE TBL A DAY FOR INNER HEALTH..THERE IS NO STAINS ON MY CLOTHING, OR BEDDING..I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH FOR VCO..KATIE"

SOLID OR LIQUID?

12/05/2007: G writes: "I am wondering about some posts stating that people are "drinking" coconut oil. The coconut oil that I have (non hydrogenated) is a SOLID at under 77 degrees temperature. I do drink this melted in my coffee, but someone said that they took it with them to "drink" throughout the day. Do I have the wrong kind?"

12/07/2007: Sandy from Bangalore, India replies: "Coconut oil is a solid or liquid depending on the temperature of the area where it is stored. I am in India and here because of the warm climate conditions, coconut oil is a liquid at room temperature. Hence I can 'drink' the coconut oil."

SIDE EFFECTS

09/07/2007: H writes: "I had to stop at a tablespoon a day. Cause of excessive explosive diarrhea.Back pain, the worst ever. I do have a life time of IBS and fungus im sure. Loose stool would have been a pleasure in this case.Honest. With IBS im an expert at this point. This was nasty. My boyfriend did the tablespoon and literally shit himself in his sleep. Literally. Felt queasy for two weeks and had oil in his stool which means he can't absorb the fat. Both of us liked the oil at first three days and it went to hell after that. Perhaps we need to cut the dose?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Heather: A tablespoon would seem way too much. The usual doseif I do get sick is 1/2 tablespoon or one teaspoononce' day.

A dose such as one tablespoon to two tablespoon wouldbe great for constipation as it is a lubricant but Iwouldn't take this as a supplement of that kind ofdose.

Most supplements that sells lauric acid or coconut oilare anywhere from 1000 mg to 2000 mg, which is morelike 1/2 teaspoon dosage. The dose of tablespoonamounts to two teaspoons very rough approximation, which means about four times the usual dose sold insupplement forms. This would be too much.

In general, if the body continues to eject too muchbowel movements, the body may be perpetually loadedwith toxin from long term acidosis, zinc deficiency, magnesium deficiency, and lack of protein in thediets.

Therefore, I would tend to deal with IBS, fungus, andother things before I consider coconut oil. Yes,coconut oil and getting diarrhea helps greatly withIBS, but then IBS is due from lack of dietary seasalt, bicarbonate, magnesium, zinc, and higher dietaryprotein.

Felt queasy for two weeks and had oil in his stoolwhich means he can't absorb the fat.

This is the very reason why coconut oil is considereda lubricant. One interesting thing though, if coconutoil is used as part of the cooking as mentioned. Thisis because it gets absorbed through the bloodstreammore easily and kills the microbes that exists in theblood. This is why I have no reported diarrhea since Iused them for preparing foods using coconut oilinstead of vegetable oils.

Both of us liked the oil at first three days and itwent to hell after that. Perhaps we need to cut thedose?

It would seem that you are taking four times thesupplementary dose. I would probably take a maximum ofone teaspoon along with food, instead of onetablespoon as the worse case scenario. In general Ijust used them as part of cooking and substitute andnot use vegetable oils. There's a good reason why.Vegetable oils breaks down into free fatty acid morereadily and forms cancer causing acrylamide whenreacted with starches and sugar. Hence, in practice Idon't take coconut oil separately except when there'sa constipation at bay and also, that my body isalready alkalized. This however is rare scenario.Usually constipation is bought by the body's excessacidity, not deficiency of coconut oil.

Therefore I would likely consider baking soda withlemon juice remedy first (2 tablespoon of lemon juiceplus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day) orapple cider vinegar 2 tablespoon plus 1/4 baking sodaplus 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day).

Most diets that the liver have trouble processing isfrom too much excess dietary oils and hence it is whymany of my recommendation such as evening primrose oilof 1000 mg is taken only once a week, or otheressential oils. It is taken only on a bare minimumbecause the liver simply can't process them andtherefore is removed. It appears therefore that thereported weight loss cynically speaking is due morefrom more frequent bowel movements from taking coconutoil. However, the same is also true for alkalizing thebody.

The difference however, is most of our dietary foodsare acid forming, which includes coconut oil ascoconut oil are mostly lauric acid. The optimum pH ofthe body is hardly ever achieved because our tonguedecides what to eat, not our body. Hence the urinarypH becomes acid, and the body becomes more susceptibleto diseases. The reason is really simple: mostanaerobic bacteria grows whenever the body is acid, high in sugar are also acid forming, and hence, resolving the vicious bacteria and fungus and only beresolved body's environment achieves the optimum pHwhich usually means the need to achieve alkalinity.Coconut oil merely sidestep the issue and may help asa secondary immunity, but primarily alkalinity shouldbe achieved first and coconut is seen as supportive, but I won't consider them as a supplement, but areintegrated into cooking to avoid the vegetable oils.Vegetable oils are not intended for high temperaturecooking which is why they break down to cancer causingsubstance, while on the other hand, coconut oil isstable in very high temperatures and hence isgenerally seen as safer for most cooking. It should benoted that I have barely made any mention of virgincoconut oil, or extra virgin coconut oil, those aremarketing attempts to get people to buy certain brand, but it is the lauric acid, which is responsible forthe antibiotic effects and it can only work if it goesin the blood stream, but in only very tiny amounts. The liver actually have a very low tolerance to toomuch oils which is why the liver gets fatty all thetime and it is this reason why the use of lecithin, afat emulsifier is helpful for the liver.

Any pathway that lead to better health I mentionedhere will always be an "urban legend" being created todiscourage such use to say that baking soda is bad foryou, or vitamin C is bad for you, and other things. Ioften respond this and ask them, do you have anymedical journals to say this or that, because I do,but they don't and hence that's how I know it's anurban legend. So I guess my studies in biochemistry ormicrobiology was not wasted as I thought it was aboring subject, but apparently its helping me now.

In summary, yes I would reduce the dose but I willalso consider alkalizing and perhaps add 1/4 teaspoonof sea salt in all my drinking water to reduce themicrobial counts in my blood."

SIDE EFFECTS

09/06/2007: H writes: "I read all the questions and comments about VCO and was surprised there were NO answers to the complaints. I too have been on coconut oil for a two weeks now with severe loose stool, gas, cramping and heart palpitations on the one end.On the other my skin is amazing and my craving for sweets decreased, albeit it could be the loose stool and cramping, that does deter one from eating.Energy is good except the constant bathroom stuff is tiring. How long do I wait this out? Not even probiotics are working here."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Heather:It should be noted that cooking in my house uses alot of coconut oil here and no one here reports anydiarrhea or loose stool. However, loose stool mighthappen if the intestinal tract has a large amounts ofharmful bacteria that the body tries to get rid off.It should be noted that coconut oil can destroy a lotof harmful bacteria, but taking too much can cause thebody to have loose stool, but not enough for adiarrhea since coconut oil can act as a lubricant forthe waste product to come off easier. Over time, thisloose stool should stop with the exception of too muchis used. However, to note whether coconut oil isworkin for you is to noticed the clear skin orimproving skin condition. If the condition doesn'twork itself out, which it usually does, than itindicates the body is excessively acidic, and bakingsoda 1/4 teaspoon twice a day in 1/2 glass of watershould reduced it, but it takes about 2 week for thebody to attain sufficient alkalinity. If the gut isalso high in fungus a major diarrhea is possible witha coconut oil since it kills the fungus too."

HOW TO CONDITION HAIR WITH VCO?

CAUSES HEART PALPITATIONS?

07/02/2007: Anna writes: "I read all of the information and people feedbacks on your web site. Now TED is saying only hydrogenated coconut oil will cause heart palpitations etc. That is so NOT true! I took virgin coconut oil for one week and my heart started to race. Please watch what you advise people."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Sheena:

The problem that worries me is whether the coconut oil you used was hydrogenated coconut oil that was responsible, and commercially sold coconut oil tends to hide that fact. Most studies on the issue of high blood pressure, heart problem are associated with the use of coconut oil. If this is the problem, it is best to stop taking it a possible hydrogenated coconut oil in question.

The best solution is to take fish oil omega 3 to neutralized the suspected hydrogenated coconut oil as it exerts the opposite effect of in neutralizing tachycardia and arrhythmias.

The interesting issues is both a low fat and a high fat with hydrogenated coconut oil AND other vegetable oil can also initiate this problem. In a study they used the following (source of study in its entirely the abstract I pasted below this posting):

"rats given a low-fat chow diet or one enriched with 10% hydrogenated coconut oil, corn oil, linseed oil or sardine oil."

Yes, sardine oil is the fish oil omega 3 which you might use cheaply, of course possibly from eating sardines. The result of that study they found:

"The incidence of ventricular fibrillation was 75% in the low-fat group, 67% in the coconut-oil group, 44% in the corn-oil group, 40% in the linseed-oil group and 10% in the fish-oil group. The time until the first occurrence of extrasystole, the incidence of ventricular tachycardia and the incidence of reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation were influenced in a similar manner."

Therefore, just take sardine oil, or omega 3 fish oil as a way of reducing it, and stop using a suspected hydrogenated vegetable oils. In the future, it is best to balance them omega 3 fish oil (polyunsaturated fats) balance them with some other oils such as non-hydrogenated coconut oil. To solve the issue of blood pressure and arrthythmias by taking 1/2 tablespoons of each.

The body also needs to alkalize to avoid high blood pressure such as taking either one or done alteratively:

1. 2 tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water minimum taken 2 times a day on an empty stomach.

2. 8 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lime plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water minimum taken two times a day on an empty stomach.

The two formulas will balance the sodium and potassium close ratio to the body's extracellular fluid as well as the body's optimal pH, and the body's Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), without the need to buy expensive machines that is lacking bicarbonates, sodium and potassium, but only produce just the negative ORP.

The other issue is that, sometimes the body needs a break. Such as 4 or 5 days out of 7 days is taken, giving the body a needed 3 days rest. The other issue is one of balance. And the third issue is that the body also needs to emulsify fats. If I were to take 1 tablespoon of any oils, uncooked unheated, preferably cold press I need to take also 1 tablespoon of granulated powdered lecithin (which is oil free) so that the body can best process the oils by being able to rid of the excess being the key.

Everything is about balance. Mother nature deals with equilibrium, our body is always in the state of homeostasis (balance) to be healthy. We get sick when such state is not achieved. In ancient philosophy, it is the Middle Path in Buddhism, it is the Ying and Yang in Chinese Philosophy. In Western analogy, it is day and night, black and white, etc. In the body's own blood pH, that equilibrium is about 7.35, or urine pH close to 7, the further off that value we simply get sick. Our body also works in cycles, and the body also needs a rest too.

Ted"

"Differential effects of various oil diets on the risk of cardiac arrhythmias in rats.

Isensee H, Jacob R. Institute of Physiology II, University of Tubingen, Germany. J Cardiovasc Risk 1994 Dec;1(4):353-359

BACKGROUND: Independently of the problem of atherogenesis, the amount and type of fat intake influences the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. However, the relative effectiveness of different fats and the underlying mechanisms are controversial. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of various oil-enriched diets on the risk of ventricular arrhythmias in rat hearts under conditions of ischaemia and reperfusion and to help clarify the mechanisms underlying the differing effects of the oils on the occurrence of arrhythmias. METHODS: Over a 10-week period, we studied five groups of young male Wistar rats given a low-fat chow diet or one enriched with 10% hydrogenated coconut oil, corn oil, linseed oil or sardine oil. Electrocardiograms were recorded from the isolated hearts (Langendorff preparation) perfused with a modified Krebs-Henseleit solution. Ischaemia was induced by a 20 min occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery. In another series of experiments, a 10 min occlusion was followed by a 20 min reperfusion period. The times between the first occurrence of extrasystole and the incidence of ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation were determined. The size of the ischaemic zone was assessed using malachite green. The fatty acid composition of the myocardial tissue was analysed using gas chromatography. RESULTS: An increase in the risk of ventricular arrhythmias under conditions of both ischaemia and reperfusion was obvious in the rats that consumed large quantities of saturated fatty acids (coconut oil) and in the group with a very low intake of fat. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly fish oil, exerted a protective effect. The incidence of ventricular fibrillation was 75% in the low-fat group, 67% in the coconut-oil group, 44% in the corn-oil group, 40% in the linseed-oil group and 10% in the fish-oil group. The time until the first occurrence of extrasystole, the incidence of ventricular tachycardia and the incidence of reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation were influenced in a similar manner. The size of the ischaemic zone was significantly reduced in the groups given diets enriched with PUFAs. All protective effects were abolished, however, by cyclooxygenase inhibition with aspirin. The fatty acid composition of myocardial tissue, the ratio of n-3 to n-6 fatty acids and the double-bond index were significantly affected by the various diets. CONCLUSION: Whereas saturated fatty acids are obviously proarrhythmic, diets enriched with n-6 or n-3 PUFAs both exert antiarrhythmic effects. Although n-3 fatty acids seem to be more effective, cardioprotection cannot simply be related to the replacement of n-6 by n-3 fatty acids in cardiac membrane phospholipids, given the beneficial effects of corn oil. In any case, replacement of n-3 by n-6 fatty acids is not the underlying mechanism. The overall reduction of prostaglandin formation cannot be the primary mechanism because the beneficial effects of diets rich in PUFAs were abolished by cyclooxygenase inhibition. We conlcude that, besides prostacyclin (PGI2 or PGI3), membrane fluidity and accompanying alterations in functional membrane proteins (e.g. protection from calcium overload) are key factors apart from vascular effects that influence the size of the ischaemic zone."

DIE-OFF SYMPTOMS

06/07/2007: K writes: "I wanted to ask a question more than make a comment. Apologies if this is the wrong part of the site. What are the usual symptoms of die off associated with taking VCO? I have suffered from chronic sinusitis for years, and after starting to take VCO - the day after, 6 days ago - started a prolonged attack of sinusitis - probably the worst yet. This has now lapsed into lesser symptoms such as a throbbing sinus headache on and off and itching inside the ears. Is this a probable side effect of taking VCO, and a die off effect, or totally unrelated? Can anyone answer this question?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "K: In my opinion virgin coconut oil don't work as well for sinusitus, and I will not use them. The best remedy I have found up to date is 1000 mg of BHT taken only 3-5 of days and it should disappear almost entirely. Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon taken twice a day in 1/2 glass of water are synergistic. Maybe I am dreaming about such a short length for such treatment, to get results, but I can only tell you what I have seen and experienced first hand."

DAILY CONSUMPTION

04/18/2007: L writes: "Dear Ted, I read all of the comments and feedback, however, didn't find any issue related to my question i wish to ask now. I have been consuming VCO for 1 year least (and still until now), 2 capsules each day, taken before bed. So far, I am feeling great, keeping up my energy, skin and hair looks shinny and the most important is my hemmorhoid doesn't hurt any longer even though it still exist. And my question is, is VCO safe for my daily consuming since I am planning to conceive now, will there be any side effect during/ to my planning to conceive, and after the baby is born or even during my feeding later? Appreciate so much for your answer in advance."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Virgin Coconut oil is considered food if taken in proper amounts and can be consumed safely if you find them helpful for you. Usually taking them generally help with hair and skin problems and can be continued to be taken as long as you like."

STEP-BY-STEP OIL-MAKING GUIDE?

03/15/2007: Abby writes: "I would like to know if you could give me a clearer way (step by step) to make coconut oil. I read the part where you grate the coconut and put it in water. what I don't underderstand is what happens to the grated coconut does it float to the top becoming the oil or is it in some way discarded? thank you for your help, abby"

Colleen from Brooklyn, USA replies: "Abby asked what to do with the grated coconut. water is poured over the finely grated coconut and it can be placed in a very fine seive or into a piece of cloth and squeezed to extract the milk doing this twice to extract all the milk from the grated coconut meat. the milk is covered and left to sit overnight, the cream/fat rises to the top. skim cream/fat off top and follow the instructions previously given."

RAISES BLOOD PRESSURE?

02/17/2007: Vicki writes: "After researching your website and many others about the health benefits of coconut oil, I have been taking 3 tablespoons daily of coconut oil since September 2006 and feel much better. I have lost weight and can now exercise without suffering pain in my knees. However, I have been taking blood pressure medication for 3 years (I am 56) and was tested last August and it was fine. I had another test this week and was shocked to find it had gone up to 175/90. I don't smoke or drink, have lost weight and am getting exercise so am wondering if it is possible that the coconut oil has caused raise in blood pressure. Could you please advise me on this, as there doesn't seem to be any information on the web, and my doctor and homeopath have no knowledge about this. Regards Vicki"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Too much oil may raise blood pressure. In my opinion, three tablespoons is a bit too much. Most would just take one tablespoon a day. Most blood pressure rises are usually due to fried foods more than the coconut oil, but oils in general too much of anything is not good for you. Consider lowering the intake to just 1 1/2 tablespoon and take more granulated powdered lecithin 3 tablespoon a day to offset excess oils. If you insist in taking 3 tablespoon of coconut oil a day then you should take 6 tablespoons of granulated powdered lecithin to emulsify the fat. Within a month the blood pressure should reduce if not, reduce the coconut oil by 1/2 and avoid all fried foods and most oily foods especially, with the exception of essential oils such evening primrose oil taken now and then.

Consider taking some Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) they are also good fat emulsifiers. The reason I don't recommend as often is usually the price. Lecithin is quite often cheaper and more available. Production wise, CLA costs is actually much lower, but the marketing practices and distortions have made it more economical to use granulated powdered lecithin instead."

SIDE EFFECTS AND INTERACTIONS?

01/20/2007: Marianne writes: "I have been taking Virgin coconut oil for low thyroid, persistent postnasal catarrh and general poor health, including systemic candida (which I thought I had treated successfully) for several years. I am 52 and must be peri-menopausal. All my problems are probably caused by chronic high stress for past 20 years. I have been taking VCO for about 4 months now and my symptoms are worsening almost daily. I have also gained weight, especially around my abdomen (which is where I wanted to lose it from). Right now I feel utterly exhausted, have a headache and my muscles are sore and weak - I have been like this for several days ( all my problems seem to be worse - can you tell me why? I am up to 2 tablespoons a day am and pm. Is this too much? I am quite short and normally weigh 71/2 stone, but have put on half a stone. Could there be a reaction that is lasting a few weeks. I am also more constipated and this is not usual for me. I take several supplements - is there anything that VCO could react with? I am desperate - please advise."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Yes, your conditions seems to be that the body is quite acid. In the future, earthclinic or at least many people in earthclinic will see that most conditions are due to acidity as the foundation to most of the problems.

Constipation is a condition of acidity. Excess taking of oils and most of the supplements sadly, are acid forming.

For not it appears that drinking plenty of water and some weekly fasting that last only one day will help. However a much simpler way is to simply avoid eating dinner or be sure the dinner is very light where it is only salad, and use MINIMUM only italian dressing. No drinks of any kind except water or water with some sea salt is acceptable. The makeup of the meals should be 80% green leafy vegetables and whole fruits and 20% meats, but never overcooked.

A temporary measure is in effect. It is best to avoid taking any oils for now, fried foods, oily food and even coconut oil at least for now. The reason is that most oils are acid forming, coconut oil is lauric acid, for example.

The second is to avoid acid forming food, such as bread, fruit juices, meats most of the time, white flour, pastries, sugar, sweet foods of all kind, no bacon, and no prepared foods. Take only home cooked food, using fresh foods at a local fresh market, not supermarket. The foods are more real and more nutritious, and are often cheaper.

The third is to pare down or discontinue the supplements temporarily until the body is better. Certain supplements that tend to clogged up the systems tend to be calcium added to it. Supplements is best taken only 3 days out of 7 days, or 4 days out of 7 days. The body works in cycles.

If you are taking this weight problem seriously, if you can get an electronic pocket pH meter or a good pH paper (but they are often problematic in being off sometimes, however Merck brand pH paper is often good).

The fourth is to remove excess oils, granulated powdered lecithin, are the best, as they are good oil emulsifiers. Therefore, taking one tablespoon along with every meal of food shall allow the body to better process fats and removal of fats from the body better.

Fifth and most importantly, the body need vitamin C in form of sodium ascorbate so that the body can achieve an antioxidant state, and be able to normalized most conditions. Usually in between 500-1000 mg/day of sodium ascorbate I think I would take if I have this kind of a problem, but this is taken about 5 days out of 7.

Sixth the old baking soda formula. Since this condition is unique in that several biological parameters are way off, I think you need a more powerful lime and baking soda formula, or if lime is not available, then lemon and baking soda would do. Basically, one whole lemon or two whole lime, then add baking soda until the fizz stops then add water to 1/2 glass of water. This is taken twice a day.

And lastly get a good quality sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon per liter of drinking water. Since UK water mostly is fluoridated and chlorinated, removing them with a pinch of borax and dechlorinator which is obtained from pet shops for aquarium, without any color, it will be clear is added to drinking water about 2-3 drops to neutralized them. The sea salt mineral are alkaline forming and good and this will restore many trace mineral imbalances the body needs. Use this a a drinking water for the day. If you drink more than usual the water, then get another liter of water also with 1/4 teaspoon per liter..and so on.

Your conditions and constipation should improve within a week. Should everything be back to normal supplements in general can be taken 3-4 days out of a week and coconut oil be reduced to 1 tablespoon but WELL-MIXED WITH 1 tablespoon OF GRANULATED POWDERED LECITHIN. I don't know why these supplement companies are going on capsules, but it doesn't help absorption at all on the lecithin and these capsules in general are hydrophobic. You can do a lecithin digestion test. Put one tablespoon of granulated powdered lecithin in one glass of water, wait 15 minutes. Another get a softgel lecithin capsule, wait 15 minutes. You will see what I mean. The capsule even after dissolved will not mix (even with stirring!), so you can tell that it is not going into your system. This is why granulated powdered lecithin works better and often recommended.

Keep it simple and be focused. Ted."

BEST PROCEDURE TO MAKE YOUR OWN VCO?

12/15/2006: Ren writes: "there are 2 ways to make your own coconut oil, one is already mentioned and the other is boiling the grated and squeezed coconut pulp. The oil then rises to the top. is this second method ok... i mean by heating it to a boil am i destroying and good things in it ? And also, can the internal portion of the coconut oil be taken by cooking your food with the oil....i mean does one have to drink the oil?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Coconut oil is actually much more stable in very high cooking temperatures than any (lard comes close) vegetable oils on the market. It won't break down chemically and it won't react with sugar, starch and oil such as french fries or potato chips, creating a cancer causing chemical compound called acrylamide. Potato chips and french fries manufacturer should use coconut oil since a cancer causing chemical won't be a problem when compared to what they are doing now.

And also, can the internal portion of the coconut oil be taken by cooking your food with the oil....i mean does one have to drink the oil?

Moderation is best, mix it in ordinary cooking as a replacement for vegetable oils. Most people in health tend to over do this. It is best to start slowly and learn from them. Ted"

HIGH BP, ACV, AND ORGANIC OIL

11/26/2006: Deirdre writes: "I see on your site that you have indicated not to use Organic Coconut Oil if you have or are concerned with high blood pressure. Can you advise why? I really want to take this - especially the combination with ACV; but am concerned it may raise my blood pressure. Can both of these cures be taken at the same time? Can you please provide more information on this?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Instead of coconut oil, just take along with every meal one tablespoon of granulated lecithin. When your body is alkalized by taking some baking soda, and avoiding sweets, white flour and take few meats, and especially avoid dinner or heavy meals before sleep. This will reduce blood pressure. LIVER DAMAGE CONCERNS?

08/22/2006: Suzie writes: "I had to stop taking it because I was noticing weight gain in the stomach area... I was wondering, at one time I had liver damage, however, I have been healthy for the last 15 yrs... with diet and exercise and the damaged part of my liver (caused by drinking) has of course healed it self... My question is, due to a small area of my liver having scar tissue would the Coconut Oil be bad for my liver? I hope not, I would really like to start taking it again... And if I do, how much do you think a person should take daily? Thanks a bunch!"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Suzie: Coconut oil is not much known for weight gain that much, however, whenever you have a past liver problems, the liver does have problems processing all kinds of oils, including coconut oil. It is absolutely important to avoid margarine and all hydrogenated vegetable oils. Those can really destroy the liver with its trans-fatty acid. They also add these in bakeries, pastries, cookies, candies, potato chips, which often causes obesity.

The most sensible option is to reduce the dosage that you can tolerate, perhaps half or one-fourth of what you are generally using, while at the same time reduce your consumption on all fried foods.

It is important that you increase your dosage on fat emulsifiers, such as granulated lecithin to help remove fatty buildup of your liver.

Preferably 1 tablespoon mixed with each meals you eat throughout the day. This will generally remove that fat off your stomach area, especially your liver. Your weight loss will not reduce the weight line that much, but will reduce your weight caused by the fat buildup in the liver.

The other supportive supplements for you liver is to take yeast in form of yeast selenium, preferably in form of softgel capsules. If you insist on using the tablet form, you must chew the tablets and not swallow. Tablets often do not get dissolved in your stomach and is poorly absorbed. Milk thistle, curcumin, and N-Acetyl Cysteine also help.

Yes, coconut oil is antifungal, and do help somewhat on toenail fungus, but of course, it is generally mild. Ted"

HOW DOES VCO AFFECT THE SKIN?

J writes: "I saw a reduction (though not a total elimination) of the cellulite I've had on the back of my legs since I was 18 (I'm 28 now). I ate a very poor diet high in refined flours and no amount of high-intensity cardio and rigorous dieting would reduce the rolls on the backs of my legs. I saw results in about a month. I also used it on the tiny red bumps on my arms and saw results in a week. I just this week started using it as a moisturizer on my face -- I have painful cysts around my chin. I had been using Proactiv, which worked for about a year, but the cysts came back. Also, I was concerned about what I was hearing about benzoyl peroxide damaging the skin. So I've been applying a thin coat of EVCO to my skin morning and night. So far, the results have been... bad. I've had about a dozen tiny pimples and several old spots that I thought had healed flared back up. I'm not sure if my skin is healing itself and getting all sorts of junk out, or if I'm just clogging up my pores. I'm going to try to stick it out for another week or so and will update if it improves. I'm wondering which is worse... a few painful cysts around my chin or numerous tiny pimples all over my forehead and chin? Hmmm."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Problems of skin are often skin deep. Taking some zinc acetate or zinc gluconate or zinc citrate will help reduce some problems, but often the issue is also acid diets which will show quite often in your urine, where the urinary pH will be below 6.5. Most people with skin problems i found have a urinary pH which averages 5.5 or below and often it is quite cloudy when it is examined in a small cup.

Skin problems are due to high fats, high oxalates - eating too much legumes, beans, cocoa, for example causing the cloudy urine and have a tendency for these oxalates salts to clogged up the skin. Therefore taking some vitamin B complex, vitamin C sodium ascorbate, reducing sugar, white flour, fats, and take beans, nuts, peanuts, and legumes to only once a week would help reduce your conditions. Once the urine becomes clear, the skin may also become clear too. The body has way too much toxins so it tries to expel them to the skin because the elimination systems are currently overloaded and its pH is too acid.

Sodium ascobate will neutralize or dissolve some oxalate and the dose, if I know I have this will often be about 1000 mg/day. In fact cloudy urine should be taken seriously, as a long term cloudy urine may lead to kidney stones from long term dietary intakes of high oxalate dietary food. Vitamin B complex in general, and baking soda will remove or at least neutralize them in the intestines before getting into the blood from forming calcium oxalate which have a tendency not only to clogged the skins, but if happens long enough will cause kidney stones.

I'm wondering which is worse... a few painful cysts around my chin or numerous tiny pimples all over my forehead and chin?

The painful cysts are due to development of high oxalate diets, it is not the application of any creams lotions. Oxalates tend to form cysts. Changing your diet will help, to lower oxalate foods. The best ways to treat this skin in general is to use sodium bicarbonate and borax solution (50/50) and wash the face. Quite mild, won't clogged the pores, and best of all will neutralize wash away the oxalates thus stopping some cyst fromation too. If the skin is infected, it is best to apply 1% hydrogen peroxide baking soda 10% borax 5% to kill the invading parts. Citric acid can also dissolve the oxalate forming cysts also, so just use lemon juice instead. Therefore the long run lemon juice face solution is better to dissolve the cysts. If cysts are no longer there, then just the lemon juice baking soda until no fizz will work better in the long run. Rinse the skin dry. No scrubbing of face as this will cause large pores. Avoid any skin peelers or exhfoliation chemicals. Using lemon juice baking soda is only to kill the organism and you must rinse it, and not leave it on otherwise the lemon itself becomes an exfoliation agents and you will regret the large pores soon after."
