[QUESTION] 08/21/2009: Angjoy from Jackson, Michigan, USA writes: "Oil Pulling and Brain Aneurysm:
Dear Ted, I have a question that may sound rather stupid to some but decided I needed to lay this to rest rather than worry about it any further. I started oil pulling about 3 weeks ago to re-mineralize my teeth and to pull toxins from my system. I do feel that I am realizing some positive effects already in just a short time. Here is my possibly stupid concern, but hopefully you will understand that it is a valid one for me; as I was happily swishing away yesterday, and thinking about how this procedure eliminates heavy metals from one's body to the point that some folks may lose a filling from time to time, horror struck me. I had a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2005 requiring platinum coiling and a titanium stent, (you probably see where I'm heading with this one). Would oil pulling cause this 'erector set' that I have in my head to shift in anyway? I have sat here and tried to reason with myself that it would not, and yet there is this nagging little fear that finally told me to just ask and settle it once and for all. I know there is an herb that I should not take due to possibly shifting of this metal mess (though for the life of me, I don't remember what it was). I would very much like to continue with the oil pulling. Aside from the other benefits, I was hoping it would help with the nerve damage in my eye from 3rd cranial nerve palsy as a result of the aneurysm as well. I appreciate your patience with my question and thank you most kindly for all the help you have been to all of us here. Have a pleasant day ;)"
EC: Ted has only answered a handful of questions in the past month, so hopefully one of our wise readers will be able to answer!

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 08/13/2009: Mindy from London, England writes: "I have just started OP and have found that on each occasion (first thing in the morning for 3 mornings now) I couldn't get past the 5 to 6 minute mark of 'swishing' before I would start gagging and have to spit out. What I have noticed is that the oil I'm swishing seems to change - we all know that it needs to thin out and goes white but it's as though the toxins are infusing the oil, taste absolutely vile and thereby make me want to puke. I'm guessing that as I continue with the OP, this will lessen. Has anyone else experienced anything similar.
I should also add that I have horrid allergies which seem to have significantly reduced even from day 1. I also feel alot more engergised in the morning after OP. So I'm definately feeling benefits which is why I'm keen to continue and indeed make this a part of my daily ablutions.
Thank U. Mx"
EC: Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell us what oil you are using?
11/05/2009: Villageofone from Euless, Tx, USA replies: "I had the same result after using sesame seed oil by Dynasty - it was an amber color - tasted like liquid peanut butter - very heavy. I have switched to Sesame Oil - (without the word seed) - it is a light - see thru yellow color and it has worked better."

[YEA] 08/09/2009: Carlsbad from San Diego, Ca writes: "Hi. This is my third week of oil pulling, and the oddest thing has happened. I've had ingrown hairs for years. Suddenly when I woke up this morning, those ingrown hairs were no longer hidden beneath my skin. I pulled them with no problem. What in the world does oil pulling have to do with ingrown hairs?
By the way, other results so fair: the whites of my eyes are particularly white. They're usually off-white, even yellow; mucous drains at the back of my throat when I pull (this just began happening a few days ago); my skin is suddenly baby-soft; and facial pockmarks are lightening up.
Oil pulling has become a very peaceful exercise for me. Love it! Thankfuk for the knowledge!"

[QUESTION] 08/06/2009: Jericho from Baltimore, Md writes: "I just finished reading the thread for Oil Pulling and there is new info there which I appreciate. The break down of the effects the different oils has is amazing. But I remember reading a while ago about it on this site and there was also salt water used to clean the mouth and the sinus cavity. I didn't see any mention of it on the site this time, is that not necessary to do now or is that still part of OP?"
EC: That sounds like something Ted would write about! Did you check the Q&A section? http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling_questions.html

Anyway spent a few days reading the feedback and decided to try ACV and Oil pulling. Only three days into it but my teeth are whiter from the oil pulling and I have noticed a significant loss of appetite for the ACV. Very interesting, I thought it was all BS lol."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 07/01/2009: Sarah from Hackensack, NJ writes: "Hi, My hubby's been Oil Pulling for the past one week and now his Uveitis seems to be getting worse. He hasn't had this kind of pain in the past 5 years. His eyes look red, inflamed and he is in pain and discomfort. Does Oil Pulling trigger Uveitis flare ups?
We started oil pulling around a week back, I am feeling really good, active and my complexion has also improved but my hubby's facing this problem. Please help."
07/01/2009: Dj from Pdx, Or replies: "Sarah,
I looked up Uveitis and that looks really painful. Perhaps this would be a good question for you to address Ted with. He may have some ideas on how to help you husbands problem and whether he should be OP or not.
Good luck."
07/02/2009: Sarah from Hackensack, NJ replies: "Thanks for the quick response, could you please share Ted's email address?"

[QUESTION] 06/30/2009: Dewayne from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma writes: "oil pulling contraindications: curious to know if oil pulling would interfere with a regimen that I'am doing for narrowing of my left descending blood vein in my heart. [BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 06/21/2009: Emma from Budapest, Hungary writes: "I've been oil pulling every morning for a couple of weeks and my sinus problems have totally cleared up. However, for the past 4 days, I've had a bloated, painful abdomen. I've eaten nothing out of the ordinary. Could this be an effect of the oil pulling? I swallow a couple of times while I'm doing the pulling, but only from the back of the throat."

[QUESTION] 06/19/2009: DJCue from Elk City, Oklahoma writes: "I have been oil pulling for about 2 days now, because i want my skin and acne to improve! NOw I have a question: I love to drink water do I still have to wait 1 hour after drinking water before I oil pull, or does it really matter?"
06/20/2009: Knute from Sacramento, CA replies: "There are two "schools" on whether or not one can drink water before oil pulling. Personally, after quite a number of years of oil pulling, I have found that it's okay, and it can even be the preferred way. It's a good thing to be properly hydrated just before oil pulling. Also, note that, if we are somewhat relaxed about oil pulling in general, we are more likely to keep on doing it, and that will improve our overall health greatly in the long run: In my opinion, oil pulling should be - and is for many of us -just as natural as brushing our teeth in the morning."
09/03/2009: Calico from Chicago, Il replies: "I just started reading all this info and it will take a long time to read it all. I'm confused about when you brush your teeth with OP. Do you brush after or not? Or do you just rinse. Great info and a lot to take in at once. Thanks for any help."

[YEA] 06/07/2009: Dorett from Lima, Ohio writes: "I was searching on the web for more information about castor oil after reading Kaycee's book on The Oil That Heals when i came across oil pulling. i also wondered how oil pulling that would work. Anyway i decided to give it a try, because I was having problems with gum disease and other problems, I started oil pulling about two weeks ago, and i am truly seeing some changes in my mouth, first of all my breath is so fresh, my teeth has gotton three or so shades whiter.
When I was younger I was able to bite a piece of thread because my teeth was in great shape, but i got to the place that they began to shake, and i could'nt grit the top and bottom togather, My dentist wanted to extract some of them, i would bite the inside of my jaws and lips when i eat. But now my teeth is getting closer together so much that i am able to bite a thread and chew well without biting my lip and corner of my jaws. Oil Pulling is the bomb. I am going to continue this for the rest of my life. there are othe benifits I have notice and i am glad to find out about this site."

[QUESTION] 06/06/2009: Jcangelcat from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada writes: "Someone just emailed me this site and I am wondering, since I have false teeth, do I keep them in or remove them to do the oil pulling. I would like the softer skin and to fix some of the other minor problems that come with age."
06/07/2009: Diane from Uniontown, PA replies: "Just remove them to do the oil pulling. See question #2, here: http://www.oilpulling.org/faq.htm"
06/07/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "For Jcangelcat & others with dentures and oil pulling: Simply remove your dentures for oil pulling."
06/09/2009: Doug from Palmerston North, New Zealand replies: "My question is - if you have dentures should you remove them when you do oil pulling or should you leave them in? It seems to me that leaving them in restricts the process somewhat but removing them could mean that they contain bacteria that does not get removed with the OP. Thanks, Doug"

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 05/28/2009: Steveplc from London, UK writes: "I have been oil pulling once a day for 4 months now. I feel on the one hand it is doing marvels. I am a smoker and drink a bottle of wine most evenings, but i feel oil pulling is really giving my lungs a clearout. The first thing as i spit out, is a really good loose cough 9sorry disgusting i know). I never used to cough and i had a tight chest (part anxiety), i think the cough is good as better out than in. As with most on here the teeth are whiter, skin etc. but as i've been doing so long now i am noticing it reaches other part. I have felt a sensation where i used to get stomach ulcers when i am pulling, not pain, just a sensation that tells me its kinf of "massaging, curing" that bit.
On the down side, my thyroids (well i think they are thyroids, just below jaw)and other throat glands are swollen and i have a permanent sore throat and almost feel i've had a cold for 3 months. I realise OP is mucous related so its natural all this mucous areas are sore or swollen. And i've noticed my thyroids during and after pulling are rock hard. They soften a bit after but remain swollen. No pain though, the only pain is sore throat which developed 4 weeks ago and comes and goes. Also getting very gunky eyes everytime i wake up. I thought i may have hay fever, the pollen this year is enormous, i've never had problem with hay fever but they say many this year are getting it who didnt before.
I am going to stop for a few days now just to see what happens. In some cases i've read, if you get a problem with OP, pull through it, keep going. But i just feel a few days off for observation will be good.
You are welcome to email me direct re your comments. Thanks"

[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/27/2009: Helena from Nashville, TN writes: "Help! Has anyone had bad tongue reactions to oil pulling or other types of cleansing? I've been using OP for more than a week, and I have these red, raised, sore bumps on the back of my tongue. Is this cleansing?"
EC: What type of oil are you using? Possible that it's rancid?

[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/22/2009: Mary from Edgewood, Kentucky writes: "I tried this today - but could not get past the gag reflex - I did not gargle - but merely put in the mouth and swished around the teeth. I gagged - and threw up - any advise?"
06/06/2009: Joy from Sydney, Australia replies: "I had the same problem and found just breathing deeply and keeping the oil away from the back of your tongue in the first few minutes is important. Also the oil used - I tried Extra Virgin Olive Oil and couldn't even smell it. I found a good Organic Coconut Oil and since the smell isn't bad or 'oily' it's better. After a couple of minutes it's easier as it's not so thick and is more watery. I think with me anyway the 'thick' oil made me gag."
06/07/2009: KL from Omaha, NE replies: "I had the same problem when I first OPed. I found that if I just let the oil rest for a min or two and found something to do and didnt think about it I did much better. I would do dishes, read, watch tv. The time goes by much quicker and you forget about it. It gets easier each time.
Dont give up it is definatly worth the benefits you will get from it."

[QUESTION] 05/15/2009: Jim from Atlanta, Georgia writes: "Why is it advised to have an empty stomach prior to oil pulling? What will happen if you do not have an empty stomach before oil pulling?"
05/17/2009: Suzi from Missoula, MT replies: "I will be waiting for replies on this question also. I oil pull on an empty tummy and almost always become nauseous(sp?) and gag when spitting it out. I just continue enduring it, because I believed that was the proper course for the ultimate benefits.
Thanks"
05/19/2009: luckylouie from Ocean Grove, VIC Australia replies: "The reason oil pulling would be more effective done on an empty stomach is because digestion uses a lot of the body's energy. A large proportion of the blood is directed to the centre of the body after eating to help with digestion. Think about how tired you feel after a big meal. The blood is not circulating as freely and therefore oil pulling will not be as effective. However you don't have to do it first thing in the morning. As long as it has been an hour since you drank anything and four hours since you ate anything, you can oil pull anytime of the day. I personally do it before dinner. I normally have lunch around 1pm and don't eat dinner until at least 6.30pm which leaves plenty of time for digesting my food.If you don't have enough time to oil pull in the morning, try this instead."

05/13/2009: Chelsea from Tulsa, Ok writes: "I have tried oil pulling only 2 times and can't seem to get to place it isn't yellow. Is there any chance it is still helping? I also seem to swallow some...just a little but ick!! Has anyone had this happen and then just seemed to be able to do it right?"
EC: Try another type of oil!
05/14/2009: J from Frederick, Maryland replies: "Chelsea from Tulsa, Oil Pulling is brand new to me also. I've only been at it for a week now. I started with Sesame Oil and couldn't bear it. Gagged big time. So the next day I found on this thread a suggestion to use the oil that is best for your blood type so I changed to Olive Oil and what a huge difference, still a bit yuck but not as bad. To answer one of your questions, after doing OP for a few day's I found that I did not swallow any if I slowed down the pulling and relaxed and also if I got any air in my mouth I would stop pulling and let the air out of my nose, that helped me a lot. As far as the oil still being yellow when you dospose of it, today I found that since I could tolerate the pulling longer (15 minutes) the oil was not as yellow as days prior when I could only pull for 5 to 10 minutes. So I hope that helps you a little bit. For me so far I've only noticed cleaner teeth, and I am hoping it is helping with my anemia which is why I started.
Good luck!
By the way I love this site I check it every day since I found it last week and have been telling my friends about it.
Thanks so much EC!!
J"

[QUESTION] 05/12/2009: Anna from Philadelphia, PA writes: "After the oil becomes watery as it mixes with saliva (like after 5 min) I get disgusted with it and spit it out taking the fresh oil instead. Do you think twice 5 min. are the same as 10 min. with the same oil? or maybe even better since (I think) fresh oil "pulls" better than the watery mix? What do you think?"
05/17/2009: Eveline from Canadian living in Spain replies: "Anna from Philly, PA. re: your question about time for oil pulling. According to the author Andreas Moritz who wrote the book "The Liver and Gallbladder Miracle Cleanse" as well as others and whom I trust, you should only swish the oil in your mouth for 3 to 4 minutes, spit it out and repeat 2 more times. What it does, according to him, is activate enzymes which are what draw out the toxins. Spitting it out after 3 or 4 minutes insures that the released toxins are not REABSORBED. If it's a yellowish colour that doesn't matter. It's full of billions of destructive bacteria and toxins.
I have been oil pulling for a couple of weeks now and my teeth are whiter and my tongue is clear and pink, probably the first time since I was a kid. It's remarkable."

[QUESTION] 05/09/2009: Tom from Minneapolis, Minnesota writes: "Oil Pulling and Joint Replacement: I am very interested in oil pulling, but have a quest regarding my artificial hips. Has anyone had any experience with the effects of oil pulling on those of us who have had joints replaced?"

[YEA] 05/08/2009: Kerry from Ibiza, Spain writes: "As I sit reading this information from the Earthclinic I'm oil pulling! I first started it back in February 09 for a 3 months stint, just pulling oil very first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. Apparently this is because the mouth becomes extremely toxicated during the night and the oil is eradicating those toxins. I must say it sounds a gross thing to do but actually love the clean feeling my mouth has afterwards, my first cup of tea tastes better and my teeth have become whiter. I'm doing it to see if it will help reduce my fibroids but I won't find that out until my next scan. Thank you to my friend for passing on this web link this morning because now I can see other natural therapies that could help - yeeha!"

[QUESTION] 05/06/2009: Samothrce from Prophetstown, IL, USA writes: "This is a question regarding swallowing oil when pulling oil:
Is it actually possible to pull the oil and not swallow? I just tried oil pulling for the first time, and found myself having to swallow quite a bit. It could be because I have a sinus infection and there is a lot of drainage in the back of my throat. I didn't want to give up just because of that, so when I felt the urge to swallow, I just tipped my head forward, so the oil was at the front of my mouth. Since I am new to this method, I am a little worried-I don't want to inadvertently make myself more sick. I did read that any swallowed oil will eventually be excreted in waste product, so I am hoping that will be the case in the drop or two that have made it down my throat when I swallowed."

[QUESTION] 04/28/2009: Tara from Oklahoma City, OK writes: "I am interested in trying oil pulling and other remedies that have a detoxing effect, but I am currently breast feeding my infant. [SIDE EFFECTS] 04/21/2009: Lee from Rochester, NY writes: "Oil Pulling - just be careful if you have fillings (silver) in your mouth, as the oil pulls that as well. I had these in (4), since I was 7 and 30 years later after pulling, I had to replace 3 of the 4. When it says it pulls ALL TOXINS OUT, they are not kidding."
06/22/2009: Catalina from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico replies: "After reading Lee's feedback about the loss of fillings, I want to say that oil pulling does not remove fillings in good condition. My fillings have been in my mouth 50 years. I have been oil pulling for 3 years, and my fillings are as firm as ever. According to the thought on the Cure Zone Oil Pulling Forum, the fillings are not affected by oil pulling. Rather, if they are already loose or deteorating and there is debris in the cavity, it is this debris that responds to oil pulling, causing already compromised fillings to loosen. Think of this as a blessing, as now you will replace faulty fillings with new, non-amalgam ones.Catalina"
