I turned to Earthclinic (which I should've followed my instincts and done it first! ) for a natural and safe for the baby remedy. Turmeric was it. Read a lot of positive reviews so I decided to try it. I couldn't handle taking it in warm water like suggested and found another person had buried it in a spoonful of yogurt. Tried that and down the hatch it went, painlessly. And within 15 - 20 minutes I got the tingle inside the boils. They started to drain almost immediately. I kept taking the turmeric about 3x daily. The boils continued to drain for 4 days, with such relief!!!! I never forced anything, just let it do its own thing and they were gone within a week, with barely even a red mark to show for it. Natural, cheap, effective, safe home remedy with no side effects or scarring!!!! It was amazing! I have used it a couple of times since as well, actually as soon as I feel a little bump that might turn into a boil, I use the turmeric and it goes away before it gets to a point of having to drain. I LOVE Earthclinic, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

With regards to boils and recurring skin infections. Check your urine for sugar. As this tends to be a problem in Type 2 Diabetes. It can go unnoticed, without symptoms for years.
The problem causes a Syndrome, High sugar, leading to High blood pressure, and the sugar causes the immune system to go on strike, and not be able to handle "Staphylococcus Arius" the main cause of boils, while the sugar levels remain high. In the western world it has reached epidemic proportions. Once the sugar has dropped the boils disappear.
Turmeric seems to bring on an intense draining of the boil, without any other intervention other than keeping it clean and patching with absorbent tissue. Definitely recommended.

Hi, is tumeric safe to take during pregnancy??
(Tennessee)
02/11/2015
Dear Jo,
According to the National Institute for Heath, turmeric is considered safe for pregnancy in the amounts you would use in food. In some countries, turmeric is used regularly and often everyday in food.
However it's effect has not been studied on pregnant women, so no one can say, "for sure". I checked several sources and could not find turmeric on a "list of herbs to avoid in pregnancy." Some herbs have estrogenic properties or purgative properties. These herbs are always on such lists. Turmeric is not estrogenic or purgative.
Turmeric is a blood purifier and therefore good at detoxifying. For that reason, I would personally not want to use large amounts of it in pregnancy. Pregnant and nursing moms need to be careful about detoxifying their bodies since toxins would come out in the milk of a nursing mom, and would likely also cross the placenta.
Our bodies are detoxifying regularly through sweating and elimination, so some detoxification is normal, but you wouldn't want to go out of your way to cause extra detoxification during times of pregnancy and nursing.
If I were dealing with a health problem in pregnancy and was having to decide between a strong anti-biotic and turmeric (say for MRSA), I would chose turmeric, and use the smallest amount needed to deal with the problem.
Because turmeric may be a natural blood thinner, I would avoid it in the last month of pregnancy, except in amounts normally used in food.
I hope that will help you to make a good decision!

My son and daughter recently broke out with a boil. Can you give turmeric to a child? If so, how much? My daughters has nearly healed with antibiotics, but my son's is very painful. My daughter's was diagnosed as MRSA, so the dr assumed my sons was the same and treated it with stronger antibiotics. His culture is not back yet. I want to do what ever I can to help him, it is really bothering him. Thanks.

Dear Amber,
I give my children turmeric.
For small children, ages 2 - 6, I give 1/4 teaspoon, 2-3 times a day. For ages 6-12, I give about 1/2 teaspoon 2-3 times a day. For 12 and over, I use an adult dose of 1 teaspoon 3 times a day. Turmeric should be taken with plenty of water. Some say it can cause constipation, but we have not seen that happen. But maybe it is because we use plenty of water.
I mix turmeric with yogurt, applesauce or honey to give it to children.
You could also spray the boils with colloidal silver.
I have used a mixture of the following on skin infections several times a day:
1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
5 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops of Frankincense essential oil
Even just the coconut oil may be enough.
I hope your children feel better soon!

Dear Diana from Milford PA, Why not see a gynocologist and get a for real diagnosis of what this problem is? Is your health and well being not worth a couple hundred dollars? The most anyone here can do is GUESS about what this problem is. You need to see a qualified doctor to KNOW what the problem is. Any treatment has to be based on knowing what the problem is....Oscar

Of course visiting a doctor as one reader suggests is always pertinent advice; however, what you describe may be acne or a boil. Applying turmeric helps, but also does taking it internally... Good Luck.

I tried a warm tincture of charcoal and ground flax seed as a compress atop the boils. That did not draw out the toxins by bringing it to a head but helped reduce the boil and left black markings like a tattoo. I remember they would remain black for weeks at a time never coming to a full head! Eventually, they would disappear but new boils returned again and again, but never came to a head. It has been an endless cycle.
This time I ingested 1 tsp. Turmeric in about a cup of warm water with a dash of black pepper before bed. I thought, "Why not give it a try?" I covered them with sterile gauze and taped down with duct tape. The next morning I was shocked to find the the boils were extremely swollen and had come to a head! I really was lazy with it and forgot to drink again until that afternoon. Thi time I applied clean gauze and a compound mixture of 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp of activated charcoal and 1 tsp of turmeric in the water. I heated this up and used a dropper to soak the gauze pads with it. Then, I taped these soaked gauze pads over the boils with duct tape to keep steady. By evening they had burst on their own and were draining profusely. 24 hours! The boil in the area known for frequent recurring boils seems like a very deep wound indicative the turmeric worked from the inside out. It hurts very much as though I've been stabbed, but I'm glad to know it is truly healing for a change. I will continue to drink the turmeric water daily until all sign of them are gone and maybe occasionally just for good measure. Boy, I'm glad I found this remedy! I have even tried silvadene in the past with no luck. Turmeric works!

Recipe: 1 teaspoon tumeric powder, 4 cups water, 1 cup vanilla almond/soy milk and black pepper for absorption. (The recommended ratio of tumeric to black pepper is 1:1 but I sprinkle in so it won't become too spicy)

I'm grateful for your encouragement. Have had a blasted small boil on the upper right corner of shoulder front. Then, tried several $$$ remedies that have done very little.
Today made a paste of turmeric, pepper and extra virgin coconut oil and put on it. Then drank a warm cup of water with 1 tsp. of turmeric and dash of pepper. (Oh, forgot to say, developed a 'rash' all over my body that was driving me crazy! And, after reading all the stuff on this have concluded there must be an internal infection (staph in all probability, had been in contact with a hospital and very ill person previous)so decided to 'cleanse' with that also.
Thanks again for the encouragement. Donna

I started with Tumeric for this persistant boil, but improvement was slow untill I added Cream of Tartar, It seems to make the pus more fluid. The last boil of this type that I had lasted for a few years I suppose it was more of an abcess. It grew and shrank untill I tried to lance it myself, needless to say I then had to go to the Doc. and get some amoxicillan. Which incidently cleared it up fast. But Cream of tartar does something to the bacteria the infection was over within a couple of teaspoonfulls, but as it was large it took a couple of weeks to completly drain. If you feel one coming on start with a teaspoon of cream of Tartar morning and evening in some milk, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

By Monday, it was a full-blown boil, the worst one I've ever had and having to sit on it all day at work was absolute agony. I came over to Earth Clinic for help, always my first source for home remedies.
I should have started the turmeric much earlier; I bought a large bag of it last year when I had a small outbreak of boils.
Monday night after work, I mixed a teaspoon of turmeric into warm water and drank it. That was rough; not the best method for me. Before bed, I took a second teaspoon mixed into about 1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil (after reading fat is important for the turmeric to work best). I also spread a small amount of oil onto a bandage, sprinkled turmeric over the top of it, and slept with that on the boil.
Tuesday morning, the bandage was soaked, so I knew the boil had begun to drain. It felt smaller (due to its location on my body, it is hard to look at it) but was still quite painful. I washed it thoroughly and started my Tuesday with a half teaspon of turmeric (the full teaspoon gave me brief heart palpitations) in coconut oil and headed to work. Before the day had ended, it began to drain again, this time with much blood.
Home again, I took my turmeric/coconut oil and added black pepper after reading on EC that the pepper increased the bioavailability of turmeric. I took a dose at 5:30 and again at 8:30 before bed. Also, I again slept with a poultice of coconut oil and turmeric taped over the boil.
Today is Wednesday; the drainage seems to be nearly complete and the pain is nearly gone! It's absolutely amazing; when I have had boils in the past, and have not used turmeric, it seems to take 10 or more days to fully get rid of them.
I intend to continue with my 3x per day dosing until there is no pain or swelling there at all and then I think I'll just add a half teaspoon with black pepper and coconut oil to my morning routine for maintenance.
Thank you Earth Clinic!

Turmeric is AMAZING for treating boils. I felt one coming on my inner thigh and read about turmeric treatments for boils on this site and decided to try it. I mixed a teaspoon of turmeric in 8 oz of water and drank it. I also made a paste of turmeric, olive oil and tea tree oil and applied it to the area where the boil was coming in. In about 12 hours the boil started going away! The pain went away as well. I drank the turmeric and water mixture again the next morning and applied the paste again and in 24 hours the boil is virtually gone! This is INCREDIBLE!
I am also bathing with antibacterial/antimicrobial soap for the next few weeks as well. I will probably start drinking turmeric and water regularly because I can feel that it is purifying me from the inside somehow. I don't know exactly how but it's cleansing me and it feels WONDERFUL!
I am so amazed by this experience that I am thinking about studying Herbal Medicine!!!

Bit of a back story.. I experienced my first boil about 1 month ago, on my inner thigh, I believe caused by an ingrown hair. I thought it was abnormally large, and drained a lot, but never thought it to be a boil, because I had never had one. Anyway, it drained and went away(leaving a scar, anyone know how to help get rid of those in the pubic region?)... But about 4 days ago, I noticed a red bump (that grew quickly, and swelled a lot) on the exact opposite spot on my other thigh... Like complelely mirrored spot. I read posts, started taking 4 turmeric capsules, and applying oil of oregano and all sorts of helpful home remedies... I didn't notice much of a difference.. So I just went to the kitchen, and used actual turmeric spice, a cap full of it in grapefruit juice. I also made a paste of oregano oil and turmeric and applied it with a bandaid. The swelling has gone down quite a bit already. I am hoping it drains tonight. If I remember, ill update. Regardless, try turmeric! Bulk spice, not capsules.

In response to my last post.. I woke up this morning, drank the turmeric with juice, followed by a hot bath with sea salts, h202, coconut oil and a little dr bronners, it came to a head. I popped it... I will continue with turmeric. I have a question though.... All the white stuff came out.. Now it seems just to be lymph fluid.. But it looks a little yellow in color, and the area is still a little swollen. Is what I think is lymph flluid still infection... Or is that only the white looking pus?... Should I let it drain out all on its own, or apple any pressue? Thanks for your help. I love this site!

I've had a boil on my pants line for a month with a small hole in it which ive squeezed out some mucky looking stuff. So I put a tea spoon of tumeric in a glass of soya milk and downed it twice a day, over a couple of days.. I also mixed some honey with tumeric and applied to the boil. It is now draining well.. Tumeric definitely works.

A big thank you for your existence and support for usage of natural remedies.
As a healthcare worker I have been dealing with unpleasant boils (very likely, but hard to accept MRSA boils) on my body especially buttocks area for the last two months. Two days ago I began drinking turmeric mixed in warm water twice a day - morning and evening. What a difference it has made. The boils are dissapearing, and I must give all the credit to turmeric as I have not done any other dietary changes.
Kind regards,

Tumeric! Tumeric! Tumeric! Couldn't recommend more! Yes drink it with pepper in warm water/milk and apply it to the area in a poultice making a very warm paste out of turmeric powder, ginger powder - sometimes onion grated in as well. When using onion make sure there is a cloth between your skin and the paste as it will burn! And then to speed up the drawing out process my Aunty had read in a children's book the story of an African Bush Healer - pretty cute but the method worked a treat!! Step 1: Find a small glass jar or bottle and fill it with boiling water just a centimetre or two below the lip of the jar or bottle Step 2: With the boil exposed, pick up the jar with a cloth or towel as the glass is VERY HOT, pour out the water and then gently place over the boil. Step3: Release immediately if too hot and wait a second or two till it's cooler and leave for a couple of minutes over the boil. Step:4 Watch and wait! You will see the pus and blood being drawn to the surface at the head of the boil as the heat sucks everything in towards the jar! Quite fascinating!! Step 5: To release when you are happy with how much has come out press down on the skin around the jar to break the seal and allow air into the jar making it easier to pull off.
I did this once in the morning and once at night with poultices in between.
Good Luck!!

The boil immediately got smaller and after two days is very much reduced and the pain which had commenced went away in the first 6 hours.
I think by tomorrow it will have gone and I will stop the treatment.

Do yourself a favor and don't stop the treatment. Do a maintenance treatment from here on to avoid getting another one. 1 tsp of turmeric in warm milk and a little honey to taste or in the water like you did if you prefer. 5 days on 2 days off for me but at least 3 days a week and you won't likely see another one. Cheers and best wishes

Turmeric is an Indian spice...the ground root of the turmeric plant. You can find it in any grocery store like Safeway or Trader Joe's, but I'd recommend buying it from your local Indian grocery store, if you have one close by. Much much cheaper. You can get about 150gms for $1-2 here, instead of paying $6-8 at Safeway etc.

This site and all the information saved my face and mental health. For the first time in my life, I got a boil. It was on my face! I woke up a week ago Saturday with what I thought was the start of a pimple on the left side of my chin. By Mon morning it had grown to a huge swollen lump. I went to work and called the doc. I got in that afternoon. She said I had an abscess and gave me scripts for a pain killer and antibiotic. Told me don't touch it and use warm compresses. The pain killers helped but the boil kept growing.
Luckily, I work for the State from my home so I could rearrange my schedule and hide in the house! By Wed, it was almost like a ping pong ball. I found this site and had my husband pick up Turmeric and tea tree oil. I started using it late Wed night. 3 teaspoons a day and dabbing the tt oil on 3x a day. It was less red by Thursday morning and started shrinking quickly. By Saturday morning it was gone! I could not believe it. Amazing.
I continue to take the antibiotics because you need to finish them but I contribute the rapid healing to the Turmeric and tea tree oil. I have a small dry patch of skin where the boil was. No scar since it never burst. I am using vitamin e oil daily on the dry skin as well as taking capsules now. Amazing!! Thank you all for sharing your experiences and helping others!

"I continue to take the antibiotics because you need to finish them" Ummm....that's incorrect.
(Canada)
02/16/2016
Not incorrect??? Sorry...not finishing prescription antibiotics has contributed to creating super-resistant strains of bacteria. (Scientifically proven)
I would rather try natural home remedies first for myself and family, and almost always find resolve. However, I also would like to rely on antibiotic treatments if myself or my loved ones critically need them, so please don't contribute to untreatable super strains of bacteria, by not finishing a prescription. We are all better off if you never start taking the drug, rather than take some.

I'm at my wits end, these things have been a problem since I had a major op about 2 years ago after having my son where we both contracted MRSA, they've been ongoing causing me to feel depressed, anti social, irritable and just real sad. Maintaining my health has been a real challenge and when it comes to Boils, Staf infections and MRSA - antibiotics are the worst treatment. Going natural is the only option and I'm so grateful to have found this site which informed me about the spice Tumeric.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.
The next step I intend to take is to buy the book MRSA Secrets Revealed by Microbioligist and Scientist Michelle Moore.

Hi again dear Earthclinic and its readers.
I have said already in 2009 that turmeric was and still is the best remedy for boils (and not only! ) but I have found a combination that in my case cured the new boils in a day, and healed fast too. The boils didn't become huge this time because I always use turmeric in soups or other food.
My discovery is:
I added danish blue cheese. I searched your site but so far I haven't found any reference.
Danish Blue cheese (Danablue) a popular not too expensive brand, in something I call turmeric soup, with two teaspoons of turmeric, olive oil, 100gr of this cheese, black pepper and boiled onions and garlic and fresh tomato. It is easy to cook fast and it has great taste in my opinion, add the cheese last... but anyway, I recommend blue cheese as a general antibiotic that boosts the benefits of turmeric.
Thank you,
and thanks EarthClinic,
Nic.
ps: someone told me that pineapple is also a great natural antibiotic.
