Treatment of measles involves allowing the body to rest as well as boosting its support with natural remedies and supplements. Fluids, rest and avoiding activity are important considerations for treating measles. Additionally, natural supplements including vitamin C, turmeric and barley also aid the system in healing.

What are Measles?

A childhood infection, measles is a common condition that is typically prevented via vaccine. Common symptoms of measles include cough, runny nose, inflammation in the eyes, sore throat, fever, and a red skin rash. Measles can be fatal in small children.

Measles are especially contagious and are passed via a virus that thrives in the mucus membranes of the throat and nose. When an infected individual coughs or sneezes, infected water droplets enter the air. As another individual inhales or contacts this infection by touching a contaminated surface and touching his or her mouth or eyes, he or she will likely contract the condition.

Home Remedies for Measles

No treatment actually cures the vaccine; however, several home remedies can be applied to protect an infected individual and prevent further progression of the illness. Rest, plenty of fluids and avoiding contact with other individuals is crucial. Additionally, supplements including turmeric, barley and vitamin C support immune health and shorten recovery.

Turmeric

Turmeric is derived from the Curcuma longa plant and has powerful anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. Taken as a powder mixed with honey or milk, turmeric aids in recovery and supports the immune system.

Barley

A common cereal grain, barley is a good source of molybdenum, manganese, dietary fiber, selenium, vitamin B1 and several other vitamins and minerals. As such, barley supports general health and can shorten recovery time by supplementing the diet. Barely water offers relief to a sore throat and cough while a bath in barely water may relieve the rash.

Vitamin C

Vitamin c is a potent antioxidant and has several other healing properties. Vitamin C eliminates toxins in the body and supports recovery. Additionally, vitamin C supports the growth and repair of the body and tissues.

The characteristic symptom of measles is a red, itchy rash. When caught early and treated effectively, the progression of measles can be prevented.

Aspirin

Posted by Tanya (Townsville, Queensland, Australia) on 06/14/2011

Hi EC and Ted,

Ted mentioned curing Measles in one day via Aspirin. My 2yr old has a rash and diarrhea (but is otherwise fine - eating, drinking, playing, no fever) and we visited the Dr today, who diagnosed possible Measles (albeit a minor case). He is not immunised. I was just wondering why the internet says quite strongly that Aspirin is dangerous for children under 12 and if I wanted to try the remedy for my 2 yr old, how much should I give him? Thank you kindly.

I can't recall just why, but pediatricians always say "DON'T GIVE ASPIRIN TO KIDS!"

It is called Reye's syndrome. Here is a snippet from the National Reye's Syndrome web site (www.reyessyndrome.org)

Reye's Syndrome, a deadly disease, strikes swiftly and can attack any child, teen, or adult without warning. All body organs are affected, with the liver and brain suffering most seriously. While the cause and cure remain unknown, research has established a link between Reye's Syndrome and the use of aspirin and other salicylate containing medications, over the counter products, and topical use products. In 1974, the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, a health advocacy organization, was incorporated as a 501(c)3 charity, whose mission is to eradicate the incidence of Reye's Syndrome.

My mother always gave us crushed aspirin in honey when we were little and none of us ever got sick but usually got better. Maybe the problem lies in the fact that there is no PATENT on aspirin.

Reyes Syndrome has no known cure (surprise, surprise) so need more and more money to help "CURE" it. As we all know on this website, many diseases are easily cured but money talks.

I am just saying you need to be mindful of these so called syndromes that have no cure as long as they can get money from the public or the Governments.

An interesting article of a study:

Conclusions
There is a lack of convincing evidence that aspirin causes Reye syndrome: it may be one of many possible factors but many cases currently reported are probably due to inborn errors of metabolism. It is unclear whether restricting aspirin use by children has a favourable risk/benefit ratio.

@Debbie from Melbourne, Australia

What are you talking about, no patent on aspirin? What does that have to do with anything? And who is 'they'? What's wrong with getting money from the public or the governments? The more money they have, the more research they will be able to do in trying to better understand the syndrome . I.e.; to understand what triggers it, why some people recover more easily from it, etc..

And just to point out the fact that you are linking us to an article written and published by AspirinTM stating how AspirinTMaren't the ones to blame...

If George Bush said there were no WMDs in Iraq and we should go to war, then we should believe him, right??

Figs

Old Arabian medicine doctors warn of giving measles patient honey.

They advised to give him daily 5-6 pieces of fig fresh or dry. They said that honey keeps the rash inside the body which dangers especially for the liver, but the fig helps to take it out side to the skin.
