The green pigment that gives green plants their color, chlorophyll is a powerful pigment that also serves as an effective health treatment. A dietary additive that can be consumed from fresh foods, powder or capsules, chlorophyll supplements the diet with a variety of powerful health benefits. From cancer prevention to blood regeneration, chlorophyll plays an important role in general health and treatment of illness.

What is Chlorophyll?

A naturally occurring molecule, chlorophyll is the substance that gives plants their color. This molecule is also responsible for one of the most important processes on earth – photosynthesis. Chlorophyll stimulates this process which converts sunlight energy, water and carbon dioxide into the primary fuel source or glucose. All plants and animals derive their life-sustaining energy supply from this process and its product.

Interestingly enough, chlorophyll also supports the human body in another fundamental way. This unique substance closely resembles the red blood cells, or hemoglobin, in the human body. Hemoglobin is what gives blood its red color and supports its oxygen-carrying capacity. Hemoglobin and chlorophyll are essentially identical in molecular structure expect for the center atom. As such, chlorophyll functions in the body in much the same way as hemoglobin.

Health Benefits of “The Green Blood”

As it functions much in the same way as blood, chlorophyll is often given the name “the green blood of plants.” It is also this function that makes chlorophyll such an effective health treatment. Chlorophyll enhances health in a variety of ways and can be used to treat a number of conditions.

Chlorophyll functions as a blood cleanser, blood builder and oxygen booster, which replenishes both blood and energy. As the substance also increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, it fights off disease and bacteria because most infectious agents cannot thrive in the presence of oxygen. The substance is also effective for detoxing the body, improving liver function, reducing inflammation, healing wounds, neutralizing free radicals and promoting healthy intestinal flora. Chlorophyll also helps treat anemia, skin disorders and a variety of other conditions.

Generally speaking, the darker green the plant that is consumed, the higher the level of chlorophyll. And, when it comes to a substance with such definitive health benefits, the more the better.

Chlorophyll is really good for keeping a balance ph in the body. It's good for women issues such as yeast infections, bacterial vaginitis, herpes, and hpv infections, cancer, body odor. Take one tsp daily or if it's too strong for daily take five times a week. I take the Now brand and it works to oxygenate the body.

Chlorophyll will keep mosquitos and other bugs away. I have found that by taking a small amount of liquid chlorophyll ( 1/2 tsp ) or a capsule or two that mosquitos are no longer a problem. That applies to most mosquitos. About 3 yrs. ago we had a rare strain in Texas that it would not keep off. By taking the chlorophyll we have no problem when fishing or sitting outside in the evening. It even worked in Minnesota on a fishing trip. It also helps with body odor and that is a plus in the hot summers around here. It takes 2 or 3 days to get built up enough in the system, so use your bug spray until then.

If you suffer from chronic sore throats (like I did for 10 years), try gargling chlorophyll powder every day.

Chlorophyllin is a natural form of copper that kills bacteria/viruses on contact. It's the only thing that has worked for me and healed my never ending chronic sore throats. I use the World Organics Mega Chlorophyll (100mg) brand.

Open the capsule, pour some of the powder into your mouth, add some water in your mouth, then swallow a little, gargle for a few minutes, then spit out. I did this every day, morning and night. Warning: this will stain things green very easily so exercise caution!

Anytime I feel a sore throat coming on and like I'm getting sick, I'll gargle this multiple times a day and kill it on the spot. As someone who got sick with sore throats every few weeks, I wish I would've tried this years ago (and saved tons of time & money on useless doctor/ENT/gastro visits, endoscopies, prescriptions, etc).

Can the copper content in Liquid Chlorophyll be to much for someone with a copper IUD to take?

I am taking NOW triple strength liquid chlorophyll. On the back it says 1 tsp is 200% the daily copper intake, which seems like a lot. Not only that but I have a copper IUD and was told not to take copper supplements as the IUD would leak copper into the bloodstream anyway. But chlorophyll is suppose to be so good for you! I want to take it but I am concerned for my liver. Does anyone have any information on this?
