Gallixa Skin Cream

I first learned about Gallixa skin cream in 2016 when I was researching remedies on Earth Clinic for a friend suffering from excruciating nerve pain on one side of her face. Even though it is sold as a cosmetic skin cream, Gallixa kept popping up as the "go-to" remedy for trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve in the face.

I was very impressed with the testimonials I read on the quirky Gallixa website about how the cream alleviated pain for conditions like shingles, arthritis, peripheral neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, joint pains, and at least 50 other ailments. I also liked how it was safe to use on animals, including sarcoid (skin cancer) and wounds in horses. I recommended the product to my friend and filed the name away in my brain to try someday. Then I promptly forgot about it.

Fast forward five years when Gallixa popped up again in a recent post for peripheral neuropathy. I instantly recognized the name, clicked over to their website, and became impressed all over again. I decided right then and there to buy a large 2 oz tube and test it extensively on myself and my dogs. You can find my review a little further down in this article. But first...

Gallium Maltolate chemical structure

What is Gallixa?

Gallixa is a fast-absorbing skin cream made with Gallium Maltolate, a combination of Gallium, an exotic element, and Maltol, a naturally-derived substance.  Recent studies indicate that gallium maltolate may be effective against pain, including some types of pain that are resistant to other therapies, as well as being anti-inflammatory.

Maltol

Maltol occurs naturally in many foods by converting from sugars through the baking or roasting process. You can find it in beans, cocoa, bread, beans, cocoa, coffee, peanuts, and roasted malt (where it gets its name). It is also found in the bark of larch trees and in pine needles.

Because maltol has the scent of cotton candy and caramel, it is used to impart a sweet aroma to many skincare products and fragrances. Maltol is also often also used as a flavor enhancer in loaves of bread and cakes because it adds that delicious "freshly baked" odor.

Gallium

Extensive scientific research has shown that Gallium possesses potent anti-inflammatory properties when incorporated in certain compounds—particularly gallium maltolate.

Discovered by French chemist Paul-Èmile Lecoq De Boisbaudran in 1875, Gallium is a soft, silvery metal. Gallium is a chemical element with the symbol Ga and atomic number 31.

Gallium is never found as a free element, and it only rarely occurs as a major component of any mineral.

It exists predominately in traces throughout most rocks and soils, from which it is taken up in small amounts by plants. Gallium is concentrated in some zinc and aluminum ores, which provide the source for most of the world’s commercially used gallium.  Currently, most gallium is produced in China, with minor production from Japan, South Korea, and Russia.

Earth Clinic fans of borax/boron may be thrilled to learn that gallium is grouped in the Boron family (group 13) on the periodic table of the elements. This group includes the semi-metal boron (B) and metals aluminum (Al), gallium (Ga), indium (In), and thallium (Tl), according to Chemistry LibreTexts.

The base for the cream formulation is the same used by dermatologists for patients with the most sensitive skin (similar to original Aquaphor® plus water). Please note that the lanolin alcohol wax is a highly purified product from which allergens have been removed, so it is hypoallergenic. All ingredients are of the highest cosmetic grade and have been chosen for their skin-friendly properties:

Gallium maltolate (0.5%)
Water
White ozokerite wax (emulsifier, emollient)
Petrolatum (moisturizer, emollient, skin protectant)
Lanolin alcohol wax (emulsifier, moisturizer)
Mineral oil (moisturizer, emollient, skin protectant)

Directions

Apply a thin layer of cream to the skin where needed up to 4 times per day.

* NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS
* MADE IN THE USA
* SAFE FOR EXTERNAL USE ON PETS, INCLUDING DOGS, CATS, AND HORSES

Important Note and Tip!

The cream in this tube is thick and the opening at the top quite small, so if you have severely arthritic hands and have a hard time squeezing things, consider ordering a JAR instead of the tube. Alternatively, you could have someone squeeze some cream into a small, resealable cosmetic container.

Reviews

Below is our review after two and half weeks of extensive use of the topical application. I am loving the results so much -- and the faint strawberry scent of the cream for that matter-- I promptly bought 100 jars and tubes to sell on Earth Clinic so that others could discover this hidden gem. Yes, it's now available on Earth Clinic's just relaunched shop here!

After two weeks of applying the cream 2-4 times a day on my dogs and myself, I can report that Gallixa is pretty awesome stuff.

Me:

  • Significantly eased sciatic pain in my leg from a recently herniated disc. I apply a small amount along the base of my spine and a pressure point in one buttock. (2x/day)
  • Healed by 50% in two weeks two small psoriasis patches that have not responded to many topical ointments and supplements. (4x/day)
  • Eased painful joints in my hands from karate injuries. (2x/day)
  • Diminished the size of a plantar wart on my foot by 50%. (2x/day)

My Dogs (Ages 15 ½)

  • Cured itchy dermatitis around the mouth of one dog. No more scratching to the point of bleeding, and skin below his lip line is completely healed. (2x/day)
  • Almost instant pain relief from an abscessed and irritated anal gland in one dog. (2x/day)
  • Pain relief around shoulder area in one dog from aggressive osteosarcoma. (2x/day)

More Gallixa Testimonials

Below are three more reviews from the Gallixa site worth reading.

"The gallium [maltolate] cream is nothing short of magic. It is prompt in action, devoid of side effects, easy to apply, non-greasy and non-staining and has no unpleasant odor to it, an altogether wonderful and efficacious product. " — Walter M. Lewis, MD, Santa Barbara, California

"In 1993, at the relatively young age of 44, [my wife] contracted a case of shingles which affected the right side of her face, neck and upper chest. After about two weeks the pustules went away but excruciating pain in the right side of her face remained… Around 1998 she was put on morphine (oramorph), along with an antidepressant (amitriptyline), which seemed to stabilize her pain at around a 7 out of 10… Recently she has tried a couple of new medicines, both oral and topical creams, with no relief. Also a recent occipital nerve block did not work…Within 20 minutes of applying a thin layer of [Gallixa] cream to the side of her face, the pain level diminished from a “7” to a “2”. We both think this is a phenomenal result. This is the least amount of pain she has experienced in 20 years… She anticipates getting off all of her other “pain meds” and being able only to use the cream. Thank you very much for this "miracle” — Jim S., Asheville, North Carolina

"UPDATE: I received the Gallixa order from you today. It has been almost one year now since I tried your cream and my pain from the PHN [postherpetic neuralgia] has virtually disappeared. After twenty years of constant debilitating pain, this past year has been amazing."
— Cheryl S., Asheville, North Carolina

"I have been trying the Gallixa on all sorts of pain patients. It clearly takes pain away significantly within 20 minutes… One grateful patient has fibromyalgia and a recent mastoidectomy; the Gallixa relieved the agonizing throbbing pain she was left with behind her ear over the surgical scar. It also took down throbbing in a broken toe and a squashed finger… This week I gave my last jar to a woman with fibromyalgia who got a Bell's palsy with intense pain over one side of her face, much more than usual with this condition, and the pain went down in five minutes… A couple of patients with chronic migraines have been putting it over the trigeminal nerve pathways and finding it really helped. It is good on tendinopathies as well."— Paula Williams, MD (internist and pain specialist), Toronto, Canada

Deep Skin Fissures

Along with the list of conditions treated that I mentioned in my Gallixa article, I have a new one to add to the list!

Gallixa is impressive for healing deep skin cracks and getting rid of the pain from these fissures fast!

I tend to get deep cracks on my feet after doing karate. I always train in bare feet on a hardwood floor, even at home. Occasionally one of my fingers gets split skin after karate too. You can't imagine how deep and painful a heel crack can get in the winter when it's cold and dry. Well, last Wed evening, I had an online karate class and the next morning, I woke up with a very deep and painful crack in the ball of one foot. Another split also appeared literally overnight on a finger near my knuckle. It's been very hot and humid lately in CT, so I was a little surprised why I would get these splits in the summer all of a sudden. Dehydration? I am trying to drink more water, but perhaps it's just not enough.

At any rate, I applied Gallixa skin cream to both skin cracks. Within minutes, the pain stopped and a few hours later, both cracks started to close. This gallium maltolate cream works FASTER than liquid bandaid or anything else I have tried over the years at getting rid of the pain from a wound. Highly recommend this for anyone who gets these painful skin fissures that take a long time to heal.

If anyone has any idea what supplement or topical I can try to stop this issue from happening in the first place, I'd love to hear it! At this point, I've tried every recommended supplement from various websites for skin cracks trying to pinpoint a deficiency. I've also tried a ton of topical treatments. Haven't made a dent yet. I'm missing the link!

Hi Deirdre,

Since you have tried probably all of the supplements suggested for cracking skin on the feet, hypothyroid is a common cause also that your doctor can check you for at your next visit. In the meantime, the high strength zinc diaper cream (40%?) may be helpful in conjunction with an oral zinc supplement along with vitamin A and magnesium, which may also be helpful if you are hypothyroid.

Thank you so much, Art. I will check for hypothyroid on my next dr visit. Also will check out the 40% zinc cream. I think you mentioned that when I complained about a rash on the top of my foot ages ago!

The past couple of days I have been experimenting with turpentine followed by DMSO on the bottom of the foot. Skin is considerably softer, and circulation seems to be improved which is a bit surprising. Will keep it up and let everyone know.

Incidentally, I bought the Diamond G brand of turpentine on Amazon and some reviews complained about a watered-down version. I think so too but it still is a fabulous product!

My daughter bought me some of this cream, she worked at a daycare with 4 infants and all those diapers and it is amazing to heal heel cracks in one night but you have to keep putting it on each night.

Eric Berg says heel cracks are a liver issues and skin issues are a lack of fat for fat soluble vitamins absorbed in liver and some vitamin D helps skin because of the oil in the capsule.

Thank you, Charity! I checked out the cream from Lush... looks great. I do have shea butter organic oil here, which is one of the ingredients in that cream.. It is very helpful for uber dry skin but temporary results.

I also watched Dr. Berg's video on the subject when you mentioned it in another post a month or two ago. The vitamins he suggested didn't really help, so still searching!

Thanks again for your reply!

Chamomile Health Benefits, Uses and Side Effects - Dr. Axe (draxe.com) was the first ingredient in the cream.

I will say I foot soak and lots of things help. The feet have the largest pores to take in healing and detox out of. I soak one or more of--borax, comfrey, mint, horsetail, epson salt, vinegar, dandelion, old opened wine, and wine is amazing for dead skin cells to come off and very nourishing. Plum or grape peels work amazingly on skin too. Pumpkin goo will soon be everywhere and is lovely on skin. Put on skin and leave for hours. I have used calamus oil, coconut oil, castor oil, comfrey creams, helping hands, vaseline. Liver issues and cortisol are my root issue. I take chromium and vanadium on and off for blood sugar. Only because they affect the skin as trace minerals. (diabetics have a lot of foot issues and are low in these trace minerals that regulate sugars) I am not diabetic, but haven't seen a doc in 6 yrs I think. They don't appear to be good for my health. They give me lots of bad news with no solutions, Just more fears to battle. Placebos work because when we believe it manifest. Reprogramming my mind . 2 Peter 1:3

when a person is detoxing the toxins go out the body ...the feet have the largest pores to exit from. When I detox candida I get vaginal yeast outbreaks . A detox can affect the skin as the largest organ. Sometimes the symptom is the sign that what you are doing is working. Like herx reactions.

The Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction is an immune-mediated self-limited reaction that occurs within 2 to 24 hours of treatment and is characterized by high fever, malaise, nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle pain, intensification of skin rashes, tachycardia, malaise and less frequently, chills and exacerbation of a secondary syphilis rash 2).

I read that earthclinic ordered 100 jars of Gallixa to fight pain, etc., the ad sounded great and I ordered several jars, then I searched the BBB and read complaints, therefore I am thinking I might have gotten scammed if you didn't place an order. Please inform me ASAP.

EC: Hi Joseph,

Yes, Earth Clinic did order 100 tubes of Galiixa to sell on our just-opened online shop back in 2021 and sold out of the product quickly. We didn't restock it after that. We did not receive any complaints about the product at that time. It worked well for some people and not for others. The owner of Gallixa is very nice.

Neither my sister nor myself had much luck with Gallixa. It didn't seem to help her neck pain and while it did seem to help my hip pain I was using it for, the relief was limited and short lived. I'm using homeopathy for the hip pain now and it offers more and longer relief. I am currently using Gallixa for gnat bites that I got the other day and it does relieve the itching very significantly, but oddly has little effect on the swelling? I normally use Vicks for gnat bites and their effect is similar, but I would say Gallixa is slightly more effective and lasts longer per application. The smell to me is more like maple syrup than strawberries.

Hi Art

I wish this would have posted earlier today. I just purchased two 2oz tubes at 1.00PM today.

I made the purchase and it is already on the way. If it does not work for my needs it want be the first $60.00 I have thrown away and I am sure it won't be the last .LOL

Hello Cpn,

I think it is still worth trying. My sister's case is a tough one as she has multiple issues going on in her neck and I was hoping to find something that would work as well as Stopain that she could use in the wintertime as it snows where she is and Stopain has a significant amount of menthol which precludes her from using Stopain in the cold weather.

Please report your results back on EC so other members can get more feedback!

Thanks for the feedback, Art!

For your sister's neck pain, I learned it might take several days of using it three times per day for significant pain relief to be noticed. I think you mentioned in another post some time ago she had painful stenosis in her neck so yes, that would be tricky to treat.

I have still been having great results using Gallixa on myself and my dogs. I find it to be most effective if applied a few times a day but on some conditions, like dermatitis and dry lips on my elderly dogs, only once or twice a day is enough to make a significant difference.

For my herniated spine, I applied Gallixa to the sore area on my spine and took one enteric-coated aspirin. It was the BEST combo of the many I tried for pain, so I really love this product!!! And it smells a bit like cotton candy to me, very nice.

Art, I've a right hip joint deteriorating and in agony since April. Even CBD oil (now legal via pharmacy) didn't help and the pharmacist said I would be the lst one it didn't help. Did you consult a homeopath or research your own remedy? Thanks.

Frances,

If pharmaceutical grade CBD oil did not offer any relief, I am doubtful that homeopathy in the short term is going to be useful, but possibly in the long term so you will have to use something else for pain management in the meantime. It is difficult to make suggestions for a couple of reasons. One you have not said what you have been diagnosed with and two, you have not said everything that you have tried to relieve the pain.

As an example, if it is one of the many forms of arthritis, have you tried borax? If it is a tendon or ligament issue, are you taking a statin drug or specific line of antibiotics that might be causing it? There are alternatives to statins and antibiotics that could potentially resolve the issue, but you have not given enough information to form a reasonable opinion. If it is very severe bone deterioration a hip replacement may be the last resort.

After the birth of my large baby boy I had the most painful hemorrhoids. My Mom had given me Gallixa cream for my dry skin and after reading about all it does I put it on my hemorrhoids. Just like a miracle all the pain stopped. I put a dab on about 3X during the day, then at night. Hemorrhoids gone by the 3rd day. Also used it for sore nipples from breastfeeding.

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let you know we have another shipment of Gallixa just in. We have two sizes, the larger tube size, and the jar. The jar is perfect for those who have difficulty squeezing tubes due to arthritis.

Dr. Bernstein ran out of Gallixa tubes last week after we sent out our newsletter and is substituting his Gallixa for Horses tube size instead. It is exactly the same product - same ingredients, same size, same price. Just the label is different.

Here's the link to the Earth Clinic shop in case you missed it the first time around. We're really looking forward to getting feedback from all the people who bought Gallixa last week!

Hi Madelyn,

Yes, Gallixa works great on the face and absorbs well leaving soft skin. I'm testing it on two small spots on my face. I applied it to my entire face one day to test but the smell of cream -- strawberries -- was a bit too much all over my face even though it's quite a faint smell. But my skin was very soft and moisturized!

Hello E. C.

I just wanted to congratulate you for all that very helpful and comprehensive information on Gallixa. Wish we could source some down here in Hobbit Land.

Hobbits probably suffer from the dreaded Arthritis too I shouldn't wonder.

Possibly you could insert the "missing word" in the paragraph on "Directions"! I think you may have inadvertently omitted the word "jar" from the instructions / advisory?

Just FYI .

Cheers from Down Under.

Hi Deirdre of E.C.,

I am glad to be of some small assistance!

I hope you are successfully dealing with health issues you mentioned recently?

So, you have moved from Hollywood to Connecticut I see - change of climate too I suppose - colder in the winter eh? Do you need to change accents to become accepted by the locals?

Hot on the news here to-day, is a Black Bear stealing toilet paper (left by an Amazon drone?) from a house porch in Connecticut! The woman seemed pretty philosophical about it though. Happens all the time maybe? Neighbour of yours?

Over here TP is the first item folks have rugby scrums for in the supermarkets when we are about to go into the dreaded Lock-downs.

We are a trifle bemused that it seems to be world news that NZ went into level four lock-down when we experienced our very first (single) case of the Delta variant. BUT that's what our "Jacinda's Team of Five Million" do though!! "Hit em quick and hit em hard" has become the National Mantra.

We'll see how that one pans out!?

We are still holed up in premises with only very restricted movement allowed.

The world becomes stranger by the day.

Best wishes,

Michael from D.U.

Very witty, Michael!

Didn't hear the story of the tp stealing bear in Connecticut! The topic wasn't trending on my NextDoor app, so I don't think it happened in my area!

Ha, no accent change was needed for a successful move! And I rarely start my sentences with "Like", so check that one off the "move to the other coast" list.

Wishing you and your fellow countrywo+men a fast end to level 4 lock-down!

P.S Will check out the song!
