Disodium EDTA, short for Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, is a synthetic amino acid used primarily in chelation therapy. Chelation therapy involves the use of substances to remove heavy metals and minerals from the body, which can be beneficial in treating conditions like heavy metal poisoning. Disodium EDTA has been recognized for its ability to bind to metals like lead and mercury, helping to flush them out of the body. But how does Disodium EDTA differ from Calcium Disodium EDTA, and what are the specific health benefits of each? Let's dive into the details.

Understanding Disodium EDTA

Disodium EDTA is a chelating agent that works by binding to certain metals and minerals in the bloodstream, forming a stable compound that the body can then excrete. This process can help reduce the levels of toxic metals in the body, which may contribute to various health conditions if left unchecked. Some of the primary benefits and uses of Disodium EDTA include:

  • Chelation Therapy: Disodium EDTA is most commonly used in chelation therapy to treat heavy metal poisoning, particularly from lead and mercury. By binding to these metals, Disodium EDTA helps to remove them from the body, reducing their toxic effects.
  • Cardiovascular Health: Some studies suggest that Disodium EDTA may help improve cardiovascular health by binding to calcium deposits in the arteries, which can reduce the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and improve blood flow.
  • Antioxidant Properties: Disodium EDTA may also act as an antioxidant, helping to neutralize free radicals in the body. This can reduce oxidative stress and lower the risk of chronic diseases related to inflammation and cell damage.
  • Detoxification: Beyond heavy metals, Disodium EDTA can also bind to other harmful substances in the body, aiding in detoxification and supporting overall health.

Disodium EDTA vs. Calcium Disodium EDTA: Key Differences

While Disodium EDTA and Calcium Disodium EDTA are both used as chelating agents, they have different properties and applications.

  • Binding Mechanism: Disodium EDTA binds to metals and minerals by replacing them with sodium ions. In contrast, Calcium Disodium EDTA binds to metals while leaving calcium behind. This difference in binding mechanism makes Calcium Disodium EDTA safer for long-term use, particularly in individuals who are at risk of calcium depletion.
  • Safety Profile: Calcium Disodium EDTA is generally considered safer for chelation therapy in cases of chronic exposure to heavy metals, as it doesn’t deplete the body's calcium levels. Disodium EDTA, on the other hand, can lead to hypocalcemia (low calcium levels) if not used carefully, making it more suitable for short-term or acute treatments.
  • Uses: Disodium EDTA is often used in medical settings for acute heavy metal poisoning, whereas Calcium Disodium EDTA is preferred for long-term chelation therapy and for treating conditions like lead poisoning in children, where maintaining calcium levels is crucial.
  • Availability: Calcium Disodium EDTA is available over the counter in some countries as a dietary supplement, while Disodium EDTA is typically administered in a clinical setting under medical supervision due to its potential side effects.

Over the years, Ted from Bangkok shared various insights on using Disodium EDTA for different health conditions with Earth Clinic readers.

Key Applications of Disodium EDTA According to Ted:

  1. Heavy Metal Detoxification: Disodium EDTA is effective in chelating and removing heavy metals like lead and mercury from the body. Ted suggests using small doses, such as 1/32 teaspoon, mixed with baking soda in water, taken multiple times a day. This helps to reduce the toxic load and support overall detoxification processes.

  2. Cardiovascular Health: Ted has mentioned that Disodium EDTA can help improve cardiovascular health by reducing calcium buildup in arteries. This is particularly relevant in conditions like atherosclerosis where arterial plaques are rich in calcium deposits. By using Disodium EDTA, the calcium can be chelated and removed, potentially improving blood flow and reducing the risk of heart disease.

  3. Neutralization and Dosage: Ted emphasizes the importance of neutralizing Disodium EDTA with an alkaline substance, such as baking soda or potassium bicarbonate, to reduce acidity and potential side effects. He recommends starting with small, diluted doses to avoid adverse reactions like hypocalcemia (low calcium levels) and digestive discomfort.

  4. Caution with Long-Term Use: While Disodium EDTA can be effective, Ted advises against long-term or excessive use, as it can deplete essential minerals like calcium. Monitoring and adjusting the dosage based on individual needs is crucial to prevent negative side effects.

Ted's approach is always to use Disodium EDTA cautiously and often in combination with other supportive therapies like alkalizing agents and dietary adjustments.

A catarrh or persistent runny nose in my experience is a long term vitamin C deficiency, excess acidosis, and rancidity of fats in the body. My own remedy (recently revised) is A SINGLE DOSE (or taken only two days) disodium EDTA 50-100 mg with plenty of water) and BHT 250 mg.

Then vitamin C sodium ascorbate or rose hips is taken over a month, plus some vitamin A taken once a week over a month. A one tablespoon granulated lecithin is taken for only a week. Vitamin B complex taken only once a week for only a month.

The catarrh should go away within a month or two. Actually the fastest I have seen is only or two days, despite years of the condition.

This is part of an instant messenger conversation I had with one of the earthclinic readers who had a 75 pound weight loss from changes in the diet, as well as using other remedies for his father that helped stopped the heart attack. Please post it from anonymous.

Ted

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): I eat at least 1 cantaloupe everyday, and drink 2 gallons of water from my own deep well, I tested its ph and its usually slightly alkaline- so in each gallon I add 1 tsp magnesium citrate- like you taught me its the best magnesium for my ph, I also add the juice from 1 lime and 1/4 or a little less baking soda to each gallon, and 1/4 tsp celtic sea salt, and thats all I ever drink- a little plain water also of course, But I also noticed that when I drink a lot of water with lime only my hair starts turning very black, it seems the sodium ascorbate recipe does not help my hair color turn black as well, I dont understand that maybe you can explain. I am deeply fasinated by the information you have, you are doctoring people and helping people more than you know Ted and we thank you so much.

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): I eat large salads made with spinach leaves cucumbers carrots onions lettuce ect, I put olive oil for dressing and seasalt and squeeze a lime over it, I allways eat small portions of red meat, not too much to overwhelm my stomach acid, I eat this meat with every salad, I also put some black or kidney beans of some kind in the salads and Ted they taste wonderful with the lime and seasalt and olive oil, I eat at least 6 or 7 times a day, I have been backing off the baking soda because this food especialy the cantaloupe melons are loaded with bicarbonates I think. when I touch the cut mellons with the litmus paper the ones from mexico, and the melons we grow here by my home they turn the litmus paper purple so I eat one every day.

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): I also eat the seeds of apples, and I have learned that certain kinds contain more of the B-17 or nitrosilic acid maybe I spelled it rite, some say its cyanide but I know you taught me it was somthing else, I am very carefull not to get to much from the apricots and peaches like you said, but I have some sodium thiosulfate ready just in case, I remember you words, I just want you to know that they do not all fall on deaf ears. and when someone ask me where I learned all this I tell them Ted from Bancock Ha Ha Ha, you get the credit Ted you are amazing really, I once donated money to your earth clinic and I see the way they have it set up now for you and I will be donating more, It is a small price to pay, I think you saved my fathers life really.

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): My father had a masive heart attack in 2001 and he has died 3 times and they brought him back, they had him ready for a transplant list Ted, I soon learned from you how the sodium bicarbonate lowers blood pressure, and I used your magnesium citrate to help steady out his heart beat and the Vitamin c and some calcium disodium edta small amounts of that, we got the cholesterol down the blood pressure stays at around 119 over 65 and his pulse a little high about 80 beats per minute but much better. they informed us last month his irregular heart beat was totaly gone, the famous heart surgeon was mystified and still is, they have no Idea what happened and we did not tell them what we did, when we were leaving a little Nurse who is from China escorted us out and when outside she pulled out a s

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): I have advised all these people also to use the sea salt to provide monoatomic minerals like you said and go barefoot a little while each day in the wet sand while the ph is high I use these supplements in moderation I have forgotten nothing you taught me Ted thank you so much.

(7/24/09 11:03 PM): When I logged on and seen you there I was so excited, I probably talked to much but I just felt I had to tell you these things.

Me: Thank you for the feeback about your weight loss. And the condition of your father. As to the hair turning back, it takes time to get it back with vitamin C, and some vitamin B complex and copper is also required.Yes, most heart problems are actually a magnesium deficiency and getting the blood pressure down as well as the edta, to get rid of free iron metal.

EDTA chelation pills work. I have a family history of heart disease so now in my early 40`s I started showing signs of about to have a heart attack. I got a pressing feeling on my chest that radiated down my left arm, sometimes it would hurt to the extent I couldn`t walk and my brain got all fuzzy. My family wanted to take me to ER but I didn`t want to go because my dad has seen many of his friends with heart problems get bypass surgery and still die of the heart condition or come out of surgery worse. He told me that the drugs & surgeries are expensive quick fixes that don`t last. So I started doing research and ordered EDTA. While I waited for its delivery I took emergency care.

1) I took cayenne pills and

2) I drank hot peppers, garlic, lemon, and honey in hot water while

3) I did deep breathing techniques and

4) a cardiologist previously showed me if I thought I was about to have a heart attack to lean forward, hold my breath, and give myself a huge bear hug as long as I could.

These 4 things gave me some relief but they did not take away all the pressure and pain. They just eased the symptoms. Next, I took and continue to take hawthorn. This increased my relief but still I was not healed. I was still feeling some pressure and pain but not as much.

Finally my EDTA order arrived and that did the trick. All the pain and pressure left and has not returned. However, after it left I also decided to make major changes in my diet to prevent the condition from returned. So now I don`t eat meat or oils other than coconut or a little olive oil. I eat NO processed or GMO foods. I do eat some eggs. I avoid canned foods and I avoid putting foods in plastic. I also changed my cookware to ceramic and iron--natural cookware. No more teflon coated stuff or aluminum. I have at least one salad a day and I cook my own food so I know what is being used. And I feel GREAT!!

For those, that are saying that you need to give a fortune to your thankful doctor for IV, as oral chelation does not works. Here's a review from iherb.

"My dad had a considerable amount of blockage in his carotid artery. The doctor gave him two options. Neither of which, at 90 years of age he was going to go for. He heard about the cardio chelate and so went on it for 3 months. He went back to the doctor and the doctor couldn't believe the change. He asked my dad what he was doing and he told the doctor only change was taking this. The doctor told him don't change what you're doing and I'll see you in 6 months. He went back and whatever it was he had wrong in the carotid artery was not detectable. He will be having his 101 birthday late March."
