I read this post about 1 month ago and got excited as I have extremely thin hair at the temples. I found the product on many online sites but decided to check out the Rene Ruterer website. I could find a distribitor in the city. Just type in your area and state and you will find many options. The product is expenisve but I did a walk-in consultation at a salon which sold the product. They were very patient and advised me on a treatment plan. The product is expensive but I am happy to report that it has now been 3 weeks and I already have new growth - amazing. As a result I have alrady changes my hair style. I have to continue this treatment (pre-shampoo, shampoo, conditioner, serum daily use moisurizer and vitamins) for 3 months. I will report on whether the growth has continued - so far so good. My hair is also very soft and not greasy. Thank you very much Alicia from Las Vegas - if you did not write this post I would never have heard about this product. I do not know whether you did a consultation at a salon but I found that very helpful in guiding me to using the right product for my particular condition.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I have a bald spot the size of a nickel near the top of my ear. I really think it happened when I was hit very hard during a sporting event. This is the second time it has happened in the same spot during a 3 year period. I suffered a severe hit the first time as well. The bald spot varies in size during a 1 year period from the size of a dime to the size of a quarter. The bald spot does not irritate me in any way. I have medium to thick wavy hair. Please recommend a product or products that could help me because I do not want to have to wait more than a year for it to start growing again and I do not want to have any kind of injection - Per doctor's recommendation.
I noticed that Rene Furterer Shampoo was recommended. I want to purchase it but before I do I just wanted to know if this shampoo was the only product or was it combined with any other products?
Thanks,
Jay

I have been using the Rene Furterer shampoo for more than two months and am disappointed that I have experienced no new hair growth in that time and no relief for my alopecia. It is an expensive shampoo that I ordered online, and I wish it had worked as the original poster described. I am wondering if the original post was actually a plug for the beauty website she mentioned in her post. I hope not, and I hope it works as described for someone else. Just my 2 cents.

Well, the poster put that she used the pre shampoo, shampoo, conditioner and vitamins. You stated you just used the shampoo. So how can you call it ineffective when you used a different regimen?

Hi Alicia, I am quite impressed with your story and I am planning to buy the same product but as you have said "Rene Furterer Astera Soothing Milk Shampoo" I could not find the same thing as you have mentioned. There are other with similar names. But not this one. Can you please help me to choose the same as you have described.
thanks in advance....!!!

Rubbing a small amount of iodine ( I used nascent as it's less drying) into the scalp at night. I would wait about 20 min and then add a very small amount of shark liver oils- squaleen. It's an oil easily absorbed into the skin. I tried coconut oil but it was messy.
As I also had fibroid breasts. Painting iodine reversed this. However I also took a 3mg Supplement oral, iodoral. Split into quarters.
Within a month peach fuzz new growth appeared.

Sounds like all the answers point to an iodine deficiency. Kelp seems to be the solution. Good luck!

Be VERY wary of Kelp! It is usually very heavily contaminated with heavy metals, even some organic brands! I would go for Lugol's iodine, or something similar.

Warning: Be very careful how much iodine you take and that you do not have thyroid issues!!! I was put on 100 mg. of Iodorol and I had a toxic reaction and all of my hair fell out in a five month period! It has taken almost 2 years to get it back with the help of a very dedicated Dermatologist. Beware.

Mariam, it may not be the iodine that caused problems, but the form of the iodine supplement. High dosage in Iodorol is likely to throw other electolytes out of balance. Try correcting iodine deficiencies slowly with natural food supplements such as Kelp and Seaweed, which has many minerals as well as significant iodine. It is interesting that Iodorol caused hair loss (and is indeed a listed side effect) since their marketing describes it as correcting hair loss!

The problem was NOT the iodine. It was detox symptoms from taking too much iodine too soon. Iodine detoxes the body of bromides, fluorides & chlorine, as well as heavy metals. You must start iodine small3 months. You MUST also take companion supplements selenium, magnesium, vitamin C to avoid detox symptoms.

"Fluoride displaces iodine. So you need the more iodine to perform the same function. Hence Carton's comment in the Fluoride Journal. This is an example of why I included "noticeable hair loss" as a symptom in the relatively early stages of chronic fluoride poisoning.

For anyone in Canada who really wants to pursue getting a bottle or two of decolourized iodine (size and cost unknown), here is an excerpt not followed up by myself, of an April e-mail reply to a company in B. C. , Canada. It sounds like you should have a few pharmacy names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. picked out and handy to give to tell them where you will pick it up! :
-----------------------------------------------
We do not distribute a Decolourised Iodine, which you correctly refer to as being water white. For us to
bring in a bottle or two of the colourless iodine would make the cost to you prohibitive. If you want to pursue the matter I suggest you call 1-800-668-9453 and ask the customer service to refer you to a pharmacy in XXXXX who would either stock the product or who could bring it in for you.

Hello, i have tried to find decolorized iodine but to no avail. I was informed that decolorized iodine is not available in Canada ( not sure why) I would like to know if red iodine would be just as effective. I found out that red iodine can be decolorized with hydrogen peroxide but since I would be using it in an 'inconspicuous' area on my scalp, the color would not bother me. Please let me know as I would really like to try the remedy and post my results!! Thanks for your time.
Dear K: You are asking for trouble by using hydrogen peroxide and iodide solution. If a 35% H2O2 is added to iodide a somewhat explosive reaction, but if a 3% H2O2 is added to iodine solution, the solution will still remain brown and being colorless takes place very slowly.
The solution if you are not careful will cause some burning to the skin where a regular iodine won't.
The problem about all this is it will also inhibit the body's ability to absorb iodine too.
Therefore, use the regular iodine foot painting. Here is an abstract on iodine and hydrogen peroxide uptake issue. In so many words, a hydrogen peroxide will inhibit the uptake of the iodine or limits your body's absorption of iodine, which of course won't help you.
1: Thyroid. 1991 Summer;1(3):267-71.
Hydrogen peroxide inhibits iodide uptake and iodine organification in cultured porcine thyroid follicles.
Fukayama H, Murakami S, Nasu M, Sugawara M.
Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Wadsworth VA Hospital, Los Angeles, California.
We investigated the effect of hydrogen peroxide on the process of thyroid hormone formation in a physiologic culture system of porcine thyroid follicles that we recently established. Porcine thyroid follicles cultured in medium containing 1 mU/mL TSH were exposed to 0 to 500 microM hydrogen peroxide in the presence of 0.1 microCi carrier-free Na125 and sodium iodide for 2 h. Iodide uptake and iodine organification were measured in this incubation system. The kinetics of iodide uptake were used to explain the action of hydrogen peroxide. In addition, cAMP content and Na ,K( )-ATPase activity (an enzyme necessary for iodide uptake) were measured to investigate the mechanism of hydrogen peroxide action. Hydrogen peroxide at concentrations of 100, 200, and 500 microM inhibited iodide uptake in a dose-dependent manner. Iodide organification was inhibited only when the concentration of hydrogen peroxide was greater than 200 microM. The kinetics of iodide uptake indicated that hydrogen peroxide was a noncompetitive inhibitor with iodide. Inhibition of iodide uptake and iodine organification by hydrogen peroxide were not mediated by alteration of cAMP content of Na ,K( )-ATPase activity, since exposure to even 500 microM hydrogen peroxide did not change these parameters in the follicle when compared with those of control samples. Our results suggest that the iodide transport system in the thyroid follicle is inhibited at 200 microM hydrogen peroxide or greater. -----
Therefore a preferred iodine is iodine trichloride (a light yellow color) or a sodium iodide, both of which are more or less colorless.
Your best bet is to use Povidone Iodide (Betadine is its commerical name), if you cannot find colorless iodine.

Hi I am new to this site. My son is 25 years old and has Graves Disease since he was 16 years old. He had his thyroid radiated about 10 years ago and is on synthroid ever since. His hairline is receding very bladly. Would iodine treatment regrow his hair? Internally or externally? Clear or orange iodine? Any other remedy that would work? Could you give me specific directions on how to try to regrow his hair? Thank you in advance.

To stop hair loss and start regrowth follow the following protocol:
3 times a day with meals for the first 2 weeks:
Biotin 10,000 mcg(this is a "megadose" level -comes in 5,000 mcg caps)
vegital silica(this is the organic variety(not inorganic silica) 9.4 mg(comes in 4.7 mg caps)
chelated zinc(must be chelated form)100 mg(comes in 50 mg tabs).
After first 2 weeks, continue same dosage twice a day until satisfied with hair growth and optimal health/nutrition is being met.(Biotin is a B vitamin and as such, continuing high stress can increase your regular B vitamin requirements substantially)
Any hair loss will stop immediately and growth with start. Top of head hair grows an average of 1/2 inch per month so you will not see any "fuzz" until about 3 weeks from start.
This is what worked for me as a 64 yr old male that had sudden hair loss last fall where hair was coming out by the handfull for a couple of weeks.
By adding the zinc to the other 2 items, my hair came back in with my natural hair colour rather than the grey/white mix that had been falling out.
You can do further research and will see both the biotin and vegital silica as very well regarded for their benificial properties for hair.

To Laurie from Great Neck, Ny, Usa; Has your son's hair issues been resolved? The vitamins John from Toronto mentions does not interfer as I take these and am also on Thyroid replacement. The only thing I have found so far that stops the hair loss from reoccuring is to replace the Synthroid with Armour Thyroid (it's all natural) I was started on the Synthroid and had terrible issues with hair loss. The change helped a lot. Something to discuss with his doctor :)

To Kathy from Naperville, Il. . No, I have not been diagnosed with any disease. I experienced a huge amount of stress during the first half of 2009 and most of my hair turned white or grey during that summer. I started losing hair at the top of my head(in typical male pattern baldness) in October 2009 and would have a comb full of hair every few days. I was 64 years old at this time. I was aware of these nutrients for hair health from various reading over the last 20 or so years and so I decided that it was worth a try. I knew it has worked for some people so I thought it might work for me. I started this specific set of nutrients in late October 2009 and my hair loss stopped almost instantly. I knew therefore I was on the right track and continued this daily for about 3 weeks. I then dropped the dosage slightly and continued. By mid December I could see that all of the remaining grey or white hair was showing my natural brown color about a half inch at the root end and the previous bald area was covered with brown fuzz. I have continued taking these nutrients but have reduced the dosage further. My hair continues to grow in my natural brown color at about a half inch per month. I am experimenting with finding the dosage for maintence even now as a few weeks ago I started seeing( for the first time since I started this) that there are now a few hairs in my comb each day. Between November and May I never saw hairs left in my comb. The journey continues.

Yes, Yukta, a blood test is a way to find out if you are missing iron. They should also test ferritin, which is stored iron.
Hair loss which comes from low iron will stop (and regrow) with regular intake of Blackstrap Molasses.

Dear Lara, try to stick with Virgin Coconut Oil for some time. Work it in well and keep it in overnight or a few hours each time. Wash your hair with kastile type shampoo and you may want to add rosemary essential oil, a few drops. If you can find Dr. Bronner's kastile soap shampoo, that would be great. That shampoo comes with natural essential oil of choice.
Gently massage your scalp. You can also make a mush from onions and keep that on. Onions have high amount of sulphur which makes hair grow. Stay away from baby shampoo; it is not so mild. Whn you dry your hair, dry it in the sun though not in the middle of the day. Let us know how you do. Love, Om

Hi Lara, sounds like you could be having a reaction to the chemicals. On one of the news channels here, tonight, there was a story about washing hair with baking soda and vinegar. It was very interesting and I'm going to try it myself. It was on NBC. You also might want to try ingesting 1 TSP Blackstrap Molasses in warm water. You should also massage or brush your scalp daily with a very soft brush to stimulate the hair follicles. Maybe someone else here can provide more help for you. Hope this helps.

Dear Lara,
I am sorry about the hair loss! That would be very distressing! You are doing great to be trying things out and continuing to press on for a solution!
I think Om's suggestions sounded super! Kt's also! Coconut Oil (externally) and Blackstrap Molasses (internally) are great for hair.
I would add one more idea if you want to try something internally. The herb Nettles is great for the hair. It is very gentle and is also cleansing to the blood, which may be helpful if the chemical from the lice treatment is the problem (which sure seems likely.)
You can try nettle leaf powder in capsules and take 3 twice a day. Or you can make nettle tea and drink 2-3 cups a day. I would put 1 Tablespoon of nettle leaf in a glass jar, pour boiling water over it (3 cups) and let it steep (no longer on the heat) for 15 minutes. Strain out the leaves and sweeten with honey if you like. Nettles can help some conditions right away, others it takes a long time. Restoring hair can take some time, so plan on doing trying whatever you try for several months.
Please let us know how it goes - we really care. God bless you!

To Laura from Dubai:
You complain of lice being the basis of your hair loss and ask what might help.
I would suggest you study about the benefits of Echinacea. I'd try this on a patch of scalp to see the effect. Echinacea can also be drunk in a glass of water, 5 drops, three times daily for a month. But I'd try the Echinacea ... maybe twenty drops directly onto my scalp and let dry and then re apply twenty minutes later. I'd see if my condition improved and if so, widen the area of application.
My favorite for getting rid of "critters" is Cedarcide an you can read about it on the internet. I note the FDA is attacking the manufacturers for claims that Cedarcide can kill lice. My experience with Cedarcide is that it was able to kill flea infestations when nothing else would work.
Finally, you might experiment with over the counter Lamisil and Tanactin which kill Microsporum Canis .... ringworm... a fungus. Could the active ingredients in those OTCs help with Lice? Maybe worth trying.
Don't give up in despair. You'll find a solution if you keep looking.
