Hormone balance almost seems like a life long quest for most women, but I think I found a great cure. It also made my re-occuring ovarian cysts disappear. Kundalini Yoga all the way! It changed my life. Don't be discouraged by fear, most instructors give options for flexibility and experience. You can also take breaks. It will realign your chakras, in-turn balancing your hormones. Once a week will even make a big difference. I also find Siberian Ginseng to be very helpful.

I would like to also recommend Maca Root for hormonal imbalance. I was amazed how quickly my energy came up and mood leveled out. I actually noticed positive results within days. Be sure to use the gelatinized version for easier absorption.

Greetings - my first post but I have been an avid fan of this site for a while :-) For hormone balancing, Maca (root) is a phenomenal way to go - I use the powder form in water (tastes meh - slightly nutty) but it's available also in liquid drops. I am perimenopausal and I was shocked that it stopped night sweats in its tracks! I had been dealing with that for a couple years, so it was amazing to not have to kick the covers off halfway through the night any more. YAY! It is better than progesterone to balance estrogen since it is a food and gentler in its approach. I am a fan!

I would like to add that Maca Root is very beneficial for Menopause sysmptoms. I started it just this week, and I have already noticed a difference in my hot flashes. I have also tried other alternative treatments ie: herbs and Vitex etc with not much change to my symptoms. The Maca Root seems to really work and has alot of added benefit because of being a super food. Its packed with so many vitamins and minerals on top of it all. It is definitely recommended for HRT. I bought organic Maca root in bulk at Bulk Barn and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

A long time ago I read about a natural cure for hormonal mood swings, (PMS symptoms) and I read that if you have the type of PMS where you are cranky it works to take a Calcium/Magnesium supplement but the Magnesium amount has to be more than Calcium. There's a popular supplement available that has twice the magnesum to calcium ratio. It works so well that even my husband makes sure I always have it on hand/I take it ten days before, 3 times a day. As I get older I've started taking Vitex, and for some reason the (awful tasting) liquid works better than the capsules for me, and that has made a huge difference. I will say that I am now looking into supplements as I head into perimenopause, I am feeling very unhappy a lot of days which is very unlike me. In doing a lot more research (from books) I have been reading great things about Black Cohosh and am about to start taking that. No synthetic drugs for me, just natural cures and I would love to hear how other women have handled the depression (mild, but that's enough) and lethargy that I really want to get some help with. Hope I was able to help someone else!

Menopausal Excess Hair

I have noticed that since I started using a formula to make my hair more beautiful, that I have not had the hair coming out of my mole right below my face anymore, as well as a couple of hairs on my upper left lip. I use to have to pluck them about 4 -5 times a week, and in the past 2 months (that is how long I have been using the concoction), I might have plucked once this whole week, maybe 2x last week - if I would have known that this would have been a positive side effect, then I would have wrote it down for the past two months!! However, I still had to pluck in the first month, and hardly ever now! So, I am not sure if it will help you, but it helped me!

It is a mixture of A simple syrup (sugar) base blended with Elixir of Lactated Pepsin, Liquid Liver Extract, Fluid Extracts of Black Snake Root and Wild American Ginseng, Atomic Iodine and Grain Alcohol. Look it up - there are many stores out there selling it - I started off taking it 3x a day for the first 2 weeks at 1/2 tsp and then I didn't take it for one week. I repeated that, and now I am only taking it 1 x a day for 5 days on 5 days off. I followed my intuition, which is my kinesiology and my pendulum basically, and that is how I did it. If you are already on hormone pills or natural hormones, then I would definitely talk to your Dr. before taking it, as it has Iodine in it. It is an Edgar Cayce remedy and he also suggested in one reading that you can use Lye soap to get rid of the hair, and one that said Cocao butter, calomel (which is no longer available), however he said in 95% of his readings that the Atomic Iodine would help with excess hair. He said it is a glandular problem and I tend to believe him, as I no longer take my Armour Thyroid, which I have taken for approx 6 years, for my hair. Now I only take the formula I mentioned!

There is research that drinking 2 cups of spearmint tea per day will stop excess facial hair on women. Is because it raised estrogen significantly, but probably has other actions too. I can tell you I was drinking it for detox purposes and it raised my estrogen through the roof within six weeks. That was not good for me, but possibly good for others. I've kept my unopened pack for such a time as I need more estrogen.

Has anyone had any experience with having the Mirena IUD removed and any herbal/natural supplements to help detoxify and bring hormones back to balance? I have had some awful side effects (including weight gain despite eating healthy and working out, joint pain, breast soreness for months, and cysts coming and going, facial hair growth, and constant bloating/constipation/digestive issues) and just now connected the dots to the source of the problem being the synthetic hormone in Mirena. I can't wait to get rid of this and try to get back to my old self! ANY help appreciated! Esp. Those with personal experience! Thank you!

I am looking to see if anyone had any improvements after having a Mirena taken out. I have the spiky chin and lip hair, steady weight gain, etc, for the last 30 years (no matter if I was on b/c or not, and no matter which b/c) and am really looking for hope. I've been able to lose zero weight since having this in, and despite major dietary improvements my weight is up 40 lbs from when I had it inserted. (up 55 in total, but I am down 15 for this year, but it has taken extreme hunger, and weeks with occasions of several weeks without a budge). I am having it out next week as it expires Oct 1.

Over a period of 5 years my world fell apart. I went from loving life, lots of energy, being very social, life of the party, happy go lucky positive, quick witted and intelligent friendly female to a hermit. Suicide and depression were constant, my beautiful hair was falling out, dull and breaking. I couldn't hold a conversation because I couldn't get words out (I likened it to mental dyslexia - words, sentences were in my head but when I tried to speak everything became jumbled and lost). Fatigue overwhelmed me. My eyes became sensitive to light and there seemed to be a film covering them making everything blurry. Memory loss. Anxiety. Lesions, horrible things that wouldn't heal and looked like I had picked at them when in fact I hadn't touched them. I felt dirty and ugly and embarrassed when someone saw them. For four years I wore nothing but long tops that covered my arms. I still have horrible scars but they will fade. AND I could carry the list on. Since the majority of my problems were not visual, it was very hard having to explain to friends, family, partner, doctors and welfare ( I couldn't work) that I was ill, that I did have all these "problems" and I wasn't a Hypochondriac. I've never felt so alone and scared. Maybe I was going crazy. My doctor made me feel like a drug addict... I have lesions, I'm depressed etc etc - I must be on drugs, even when bloods came back negative but also perfect. So I stopped going to the doctors and I started doing internet searches, tried natural remedies and sprayed for mites and cleaned for mold and looked to the skies for chem trails. This was my life for 5 years. Then one day I came across a comment about the Mirena and it's side effects to name one SILICONE POISONING. Two days later I removed it myself since my doctor refused to acknowledge that the Mirena might be responsible and didn't think taking it out would benefit me. 5 months later nearly all my symptoms, problems, have 90% disappeared. My lesions have 100% gone. I have detoxed with Chlorella and cilantro and taken detox baths to help removal of poisons...... This time they are working because I removed what was making me ill. I still have a long way to go to get my life back on track. I've nearly lost my home and my mental well being took a smash in the face.

Myself and my daughter has had a hormonal imbalance for years. After researching extensively I have found the perfect regimen that has worked MIRACLES for both myself and my daughter. We take 2 capsules of Solaray brand 400mg Vitex, Now brand Sage oil that I put into a 00 size empty gelatin capsule which is also Now brand. I put one drop of Sage oil and two drops of organic coconut oil into the capsule. 2 capsules of Ashwagandha herb. I use Banyan brand Ashwagandha bulk powder and as stated above, I make my own capsules using 00 size gelatin capsules. 2 capsules of Reishi mushroom powder. Again, I make my own capsules of this herb. I order the Reishi bulk powder from Real Mushrooms website. 2 capsules of Solaray brand 12 strain 20 billion cfu probiotics. And 2 to 4 capsules of Now brand EVE multivitamin.

This may sound like a lot but believe me it has worked a miracle for us. No more hot flashes, no more mood swings, no more extremely heavy bleeding, no more irregular bleeding, no more foul menstrual odors and no more fibroids. Please be aware that this regimen will cause fibroids to detach and be expelled through menstrual cycle, do not be alarmed, it is a normal process and will subside when the fibroids has all been expelled through 2 or 3 menstrual cycles. Again, this regimen has changed my life and I am so very grateful that I finally have some relief.

Postmenopausal Hormone Treatment

I'm 56, postmenopausal w/ terrible insomnia, hot flashes, brain fog, memory issues--dr wants to put my on vivelle dots. Anyone have experience with this? I've tried natural remedies and not enough relief. Memory & sleep issues are killing me, and I'll lose my job if I don't get control.

Ten years ago, I was in the exact place you are. I had posted notes everywhere and was running on a couple of hours of sleep constantly. Years later, I became aware that, at the same time, I was also having much unacknowledged problems with statin drugs and also undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Both were causing major problems with my memory and sleep. Work stress didn't help either. I still don't sleep well and stopped taking prescription sleep aids after I found out they also will ruin your mental process. I take 1 mg of melatonin and a Valerian tablet to sleep now. Not great, but makes me tired instead of wired at night. Look to see if other hidden health issues may be compounding your situation. I exercised and thought I was very healthy, and never heard of hypothyroidism. I thought statins were keeping me well but I know better now. Best wishes. I know how difficult life can become when this happens.

Hi, for insomnia, the best and healthy supplement that would help would be Magnesium L Threonate, 3 pills a day as per instructions on the bottle. It will help you relax, relieve stress, and afford a very well rested sleep. It is also the best choice for memory issues and brain fog. Mg L Threonate is the only form of Magnesium that will cross the blood brain barrier (discovered by MIT recently) It will help with sleep right away. Also called Magtein (Mg L Threonate) will help with long term memory but be aware that it takes Mg months to get built up in the body. It took 4 -6 months for me, but my mind got clear and I sometimes experience photographic recall. Then for short term memory and speed recall, I take Huperzine A, it worked within a week. Gingko Bilova is another supplement in addition to above that opens the blood vessels in the brain for better blood and oxygen circulation to improve brain function and memory.

I would start with one supplement at a time, observe yourself as far as how its affecting you, then add on the others after about a month or more each.

For hot flushes, I have read that taking Evening Primrose Oil could help pre or post menopausal symptoms.

I appreciate all the tips, but my question was does anyone have experience with vivelle? I cannot take mg due to my ibs-d. As stated in my post, I have tried everything--I wouldn't be going this route had I not given it all a good shot. BTW, vit e does reduce the hot flashes. Evening primrose oil, used as a suppository, helps w/ vag issues but makes a mess. I travel for work, so I can't have this mess every night. I need to conquer the insomnia and cannot take mg or I get diarrhea. Melatonin triggers my migraines. I need a response regarding bioidentical hormones.

Gert: I can tell you from my own experience and the testamonials I have seen from videos on youtube that the only way to get well is to go on a complete good food program. Taking 1 kg of regular food that is devoid of nutrients and life force cannot be fixed by taking a few grams of supplements. The doctor sells synthetic meds for profit not to make people well. Bioidentical hormones are a waste of money. Try to get all your nutrients from raw organic grass fed wild harvested soaked sprouted and fermented foods.

To Mike:

So, you've experienced menopause? The only "fix" for menopause is to outlast it, or die. You can not "fix" it by eating or taking something special. Support your claim that bio-identical hormones are worthless, please. You have no idea how I eat or anything else, yet you persist in your zeal to tell me what I should do. I agree, the most nutritious foods, organically grown on good, fertile ground is best. I grow an organic garden from which I get most of my fruits and vegetables. I have free range hens from which I get eggs and meat. I have pastured steers from which I get my beef and several goats for milk. None of this food has been medicated or treated with antibiotics or insecticides, ever. Also, I forage for wild greens and herbs on my 89 acres. My water comes from a well, so no added flouride there, and it has tested pure for microorganisms, but it is high in minerals. So, you are telling me to go out and buy a processed grass product and it will make me better? I don't believe it will change anything, since the hormones are what is out of whack. I have now been on the vivelle patch for 4 days and my mind is so much clearer, I have no hot flashes, and my itchy vag is better. Still nothing as far as sleep, but I'll take what I can get. Don't tell me these hormones are worthless-I am living proof that I got relief in several days. Again, I was merely asking if anyone had experience with this hormone issue.

I read a lot about hormones but mine are not in balance yet. Estrogens can cause cancer growth if not balanced with progesterone. I use a progesterone cream by Em..... Sold over the internet and there are lots of good reviews on the product. Dr. John Lee was an ob/gyn who wrote a book What your doctor may not tell you about menopause. The body loses its ability to produce progesterone but fat cells can produce estrogens.

I am on vivelle dot, 0.05, new patch twice a week. I also use estrace cream for vag itch/dryness 3X per week. Only reason I'm doing it is for the insomnia--and I can't tell any difference yet. I was taking vit E for hot flashes and may start again, as I get them now at night when before I had them constantly. My sister swears by sepa (homeopathic pellets). I had total hysterectomy 7. 5 years ago and didn't really have any problems at all until the past year or so, can't say why that is. The thing about menopause is, everyone is different. I do everything right and have issues, my sister does almost nothing right and only has slight issues. It's Not Fair! As mom always said, life is not fair. Deal with it.

Gert, I'm reading an old post so I'm hoping you've gotten help with you problems. I'm 58 and still experiencing hot flashes. I tired all kinds of things including oral hormones. Which are the worst. Caused issues with my gallbladder. What works for me is bio identical hormones. They must have both progestone and estrodial to help. Do a saliva test to elevaluate your levels. I'm guessing your adrenals are exhausted. Very common with hot flashes and women who don't sleep. I had the same problem. I use a few things to help me sleep if I need them. Valerian is one. I would also suggest you get your thyroid checked they seem to go hand and hand. The process I use is destress get better sleep a small amount of bio identicals, low amount of armour thyroid Meds and eat lots of whole foods. I don't eat processed foods and very low sugar. I hope this helps. bio identicals are not junk. They can be very helpful used the right way. I've had no problems with abnormal paps and I've been using them since I was 52. Again, reducing stress and living a healthy lifestyle helps a lot.

Women need to know that PROGESTERONE does not cause cancer. Synthetic forms of progesterone such as progestin and provera and synthetic, unopposed or too much estrogen in the body can facilitate cancer growth.

Also, we have to be willing to make the dietary changes and move more. Most women would need NO hormones or medication whatsoever, if we would change our eating habits and take the supplements recommended.

This is what I finally decided to do and it is paying off. You need to be prepared for the fact that it can take years to restore your body. After all it took decades to get where we are!

WARNING!

It's important that every woman do research before using any hormones, even progesterone cream (which is toted as natural). All hormones have the potential for side effects. With progesterone, the effects are cumulative since it is fat soluble. So it gets stored in tissues. Even if taking it seems fine initially, over time it may create negative side effects and disrupt your adrenal hormones, DHEA and testosterone levels. It can cause all sorts of mood swings, facial hair, weight gain, etc. If you are considering, make sure you see a doc that practices functional medicine or a naturpath who knows how to balance properly. Best to test and treat your adrenal issues first as progesterone may not be needed once corrected.

3 different ob/gyn doctors never did a single test to put me on birth control pills ... this is the standard for most young women in America taking the pill. My current ob/gyn handed me premerin with no tests and it caused a problem in my throat for a year from one tiny 1 inch long sample tube. My current ob/gyn ran my hormone blood work and told me all is normal for menopausal woman.

Read some books, you can get different homone levels at different times of the day and month, it seems to be a crab shoot and every woman is different.

My medical insurance doesn't cover any MD WITH AN ND education, so we are on our own. The system is killing us.

Adrenal issues are frequently brought on by stress, which throws hormones, electrolytes and vitamins out of balance.... The fight or flight syndrome creates cortisol by borrowing elements from the body to prepare it to run from the bear.

In regards to Ambrosia's question about balancing hormones without birth control, here is what has helped me a great deal (taken on a daily basis):

- (Super) Greens (powdered - combination of barley, kelp, etc. - between 1-2 tablespoons in water, depending on how tired I am)
- Magnesium (powdered, flavored-in about 8 oz. water) (about 300mg., though I occasionally take a little more if I am really tired)
- Fish Oil (1 gel cap)
- Probiotics (2 pills)
- Super B Complex pills (B vitamins that includes folic acid, etc. - 2 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon.)
- Minerals (multiple trace minerals - 2 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon)

With the above, I don't have the mood swings and I do have more energy. In fact, if I don't take the Super Greens and Magnesium, it's evident because the mood swings start again. Before starting on these, I would start crying anytime and not even know why. And I was sooooo tired - I really was not functioning well at all. I do suggest taking the Magnesium and Super Greens at least 1 hour apart. Otherwise you may have an upset stomach for a little while. Hope this helps!

Hello, I have successfully resolved high prolactin levels and a pituitary tumor using Standard Process Pituitrophin PMG, a natural food based product. Also if you google endoflex, it is exceptional at maintaining a balance in your entire endocrine system. Since pituitary is the master gland, an unbalanced pituitary means the other glands are unbalanced too.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

She's been on homeopathic therapy (and supplements) for more than a year, but we have not seen much improvement. She can't loose the weight (or looses some and gains back more) and has lots of emotional highs and lows due to the hormonal imbalances. I really don't want her to start on any prescription drugs, so I'm doing research to see what other alternatives she has.
