Aspirin
Ted mentioned curing Measles in one day via Aspirin. My 2yr old has a rash and diarrhea (but is otherwise fine - eating, drinking, playing, no fever) and we visited the Dr today, who diagnosed possible Measles (albeit a minor case). He is not immunised. I was just wondering why the internet says quite strongly that Aspirin is dangerous for children under 12 and if I wanted to try the remedy for my 2 yr old, how much should I give him? Thank you kindly.

It is called Reye's syndrome. Here is a snippet from the National Reye's Syndrome web site (www.reyessyndrome.org)
Reye's Syndrome, a deadly disease, strikes swiftly and can attack any child, teen, or adult without warning. All body organs are affected, with the liver and brain suffering most seriously. While the cause and cure remain unknown, research has established a link between Reye's Syndrome and the use of aspirin and other salicylate containing medications, over the counter products, and topical use products. In 1974, the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, a health advocacy organization, was incorporated as a 501(c)3 charity, whose mission is to eradicate the incidence of Reye's Syndrome.

My mother always gave us crushed aspirin in honey when we were little and none of us ever got sick but usually got better. Maybe the problem lies in the fact that there is no PATENT on aspirin.
Reyes Syndrome has no known cure (surprise, surprise) so need more and more money to help "CURE" it. As we all know on this website, many diseases are easily cured but money talks.
I am just saying you need to be mindful of these so called syndromes that have no cure as long as they can get money from the public or the Governments.

An interesting article of a study:
Conclusions
There is a lack of convincing evidence that aspirin causes Reye syndrome: it may be one of many possible factors but many cases currently reported are probably due to inborn errors of metabolism. It is unclear whether restricting aspirin use by children has a favourable risk/benefit ratio.

What are you talking about, no patent on aspirin? What does that have to do with anything? And who is 'they'? What's wrong with getting money from the public or the governments? The more money they have, the more research they will be able to do in trying to better understand the syndrome . I.e.; to understand what triggers it, why some people recover more easily from it, etc..
And just to point out the fact that you are linking us to an article written and published by AspirinTM stating how AspirinTMaren't the ones to blame...
If George Bush said there were no WMDs in Iraq and we should go to war, then we should believe him, right??
Figs
They advised to give him daily 5-6 pieces of fig fresh or dry. They said that honey keeps the rash inside the body which dangers especially for the liver, but the fig helps to take it out side to the skin.

With some measles outbreaks in the news right now I am wondering if anyone has any experience with treating it effectively? I would like to be prepared, just in case, as most of my children and grandchildren have not been vaccinated against it. My husband and I have been, but it was so long ago I have little hope that immunity would continue.
Measles used to just be a disease that was dealt with like all the rest of childhood diseases, but I wonder, since the US population has had so little experience and natural immunity to it, if it could be more serious than it used to be. (Native Americans died of measles out breaks when it was brought to them because their bodies had never had to cope with it before.)
From my reading, it appears that Measles depletes Vitamin A. This makes sense since eye issues are a complication of it.
My initial thoughts on preparedness would be:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin A
- Coconut Oil (an amazing antiviral! )
- Melatonin (another amazing antiviral! )
Thoughts?

Cinnamon for Measles: Joseph Carne Ross, a physician at Ancoats Hospital, cinnamon had uses far beyond flavouring. In a letter published in the July 1894 edition of The Lancet, Dr Carne Ross reported that he had been investigating the effects of various spices.
Children with measles and scarlet fever, conditions which Dr Carne Ross believed could be effectively treated with cinnamon (Frederick M. Rossiter, The Practical Guide to Health)
After experimenting with cinnamon on cancer, Dr Carne Ross promoted the spice as a treatment for scarlet fever, measles, and influenza. He insisted that the duration of these illnesses was dramatically reduced when patients were treated with cinnamon within twenty-four hours of the onset of symptoms.

4. The Lancet (15 September, 1894), 634-635.
In the early 1900s, other treatments were being successfully used to treat measles. In 1919 Dr. Drummond commented that cinnamon oil contained in cinnamon bark was an effective prophylactic against measles or that it made measles milder.
It has been my practice, when I meet with a case of measles in a family, to prescribe a course of cinnamon for all unprotected members of the family. In the majority of cases the person so treated [with cinnamon] escaped the disease [measles] altogether, or else had it in very mild form. “Cinnamon as a Preventive of Measles, ” American Druggist Pharmaceutical Record, New York, November 1919, p. 47.
How to take: J. Carne Ross MD 1897 described how he prepared the cinnamon. ½ ounce liquid extract of cinnmon every hour within 24 hours. After 24 hours period, take ½oz every 2 hours til fever has droped. Then continue dosage of ½oz 4x/daily. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2433589/pdf/brmedj08662-0058b.pdf
Preparation of Cinnamon Extract: Messrs. Woolley and Sons, of Manchester, and Mr. Horsey, Chichester Street, Upper Westbourne Terrace, W., have for some years kept an excellent and identical preparation of decoction of cinnamon; but, as I would not like anyone to suppose that I have any property in its sale, I here describe the method of its preparation till some better method is suggested: A pound of Ceylon 'stick cinnamon in a sufficiency of water in vacuo, to be raised to I80° and kept there for a time, to be then slowly boiled till the fluid is reduced to a pint and a quarter; pour off without straining- io per cent. Of glycerine being added, the preparation will keep for months.-I am, etc., Manchester, -April 19th 1897.

MEASLES. - From the Book - Mothers Remedies Over One Thousand Tried and Tested Remedies from Mothers of the USA and Canada 1917.
Treatment. Prevention. -As soon as you know it to be the measles, separate the case and put the patient in a well-aired room where you can have air without a draft and where the room can be made and kept dark. Those persons who must go in the room should put over them a linen robe, and hang it outside of the sick room. It should thoroughly cover them. When not in use hang it in the open air. An attendant who wears a beard should disinfect his beard, face, head and hands before mingling with the well.
1. Measles, Lemon Remedy from a Canadian Mother. -"Give child all cold lemonade it can drink and keep in warm room. This acts just as well as if the drinks are hot. We tried both on our children and cured both ways." Don't give so much of the cold as to chill. The cold drink makes child sweat, just as hot does. Also helps to carry off impurities by flushing bowels, just as clear water would.
Lemonade served Hot – The best defense against influenza was not to catch it, but in 1918, flu vaccines didn't exist. The Falmouth Board of Health published suggestions provided by the Massachusetts State Health Commissioner on “how to keep well” during the epidemic. Cleanliness, avoiding crowds, and using a handkerchief when sneezing or coughing were among the suggestions. “Allow no visitors and don't go visiting, ” was also recommended.vi
For those already stricken, there were several measures available to alleviate their symptoms. Lemonade was a popular home remedy. The Enterprise reported that [s]hipments of lemons are being rushed eastward to meet the demand occasioned by the Spanish influenza epidemic. The sudden demand for the old-fashioned remedy—hot, sugarless lemonade--has caused hurry calls for the fruit, especially in New England, to meet this call. The growers in California are attempting to deliver all shipments to points where the lemons are most needed.vii Falmouth Enterprise, October 19,1918, p. 4.
Fevers. - In cases of most fevers lemonade will be found of very great benefit to the patient. From the book; Health Knowledge; a Thorough and Concise Knowledge of the Prevention, Causes page 1390, by John Leader Corish 1919
Lemon juice can help treat a person who is suffering from cold, flu or fever. Lemon helps prevent the growth and multiplication of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections and diseases. It helps to break fever by increasing perspiration. To ease the symptoms of fever and the chills: add the juice of 1 lemon to a cup of hot water with honey to sweeten and drink every 2 hours until the fever or chill subsides.
2. Measles, Elder Blossom Tea (or Elderberry Extract) to Drive Out. -"Elder blossom tea is good for a cold or fever. Gather the blossoms, and make a tea. Pleasant to take. Sweeten if desired . This is also good to drive out the measles." This remedy should be taken warm and is especially good to bring out the rash in children. Take a teaspoonful every hour.
General Treatment. -An ordinary case of measles does not need much treatment. If the patient has a high fever and is very hot and restless, bathe with tepid or cool water every two or three hours, till the patient becomes quite restful. Sometimes they have too much covering and that makes them hot and restless. Remove a little at a time. Bathing will not hurt the rash, for it can be done under the clothes and without any danger to the patient. (Note: I like adding hydrogen peroxide 3% brown bottle to the bath water. The Amish say 2 – 1 quart bottles added to a full bath tub).
Cold Drinks. These are refreshing and beneficial, if not given too freely. One-third of a glass of water is enough at one time, but it can be given often, if it does not chill the patient. After the feverish days have passed, diluted milk or plain milk can be given in greater amount. Also, fresh lemon-aid for fever..
For Irritation of the Skin. - Sponge once a day with water at 100 degrees F. containing a little alcohol or a pinch of sodium bicarbonate or soda.
For Scaling. -Use ointment of benzoinated lard, combined with five per cent of boric acid. (or add Borax to bath water).
Diet. The food should be light; milk, broths, and when the fever is gone chicken and soft boiled eggs, jelly, toasted bread, crackers, cereals, with cocoa for drink. Orange juice or lemon juice may be given in moderation. Milk, one pint per day for every fifty pounds in weight of the patient, during a fever sickess, is a safe and liberal allowance. Smaller children in proportion. Mothers will be apt to give too much and it may then prevent rest and sleep. When the fever subsides you can give more milk and some of the above foods. Water, as before stated, can be given for the thirst quite frequently.
Teas. The laity gives lots of these to bring out the rash . It seems to me before the rash is out the patient is feverish and chilly and the skin is dry, and a small amount of tea given every hour or two might do good unless the patient is made warmer. There are many varieties given. Elder blossom seems to have the call. For some time after the patient is well he may be bothered with a cough; it better be looked after if it continues, for there might be bronchitis or some lung trouble left and unknown.
Lemon balm has antibacterial and antiviral properties, and like all of it's mint family relatives, a cup of hot lemon balm tea induces perspiration to help break a fever. Lemon Balm is anti-viral, so the tea is great to drink if you're feeling under the weather. The hot tea brings on a sweat that is good for relieving colds, flus and fevers and an anti-viral agent has been found that combats mumps, cold sores and other viruses. James Duke mentions that Lemon Balm can help with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Shingles, due to the anti-viral action. It was used in ancient Greece and Rome as a topical treatment for wounds. Lemon balm extracts are also effective against mumps viruses.
This is how my Grandmother would have been treated back in 1911 and she would have treated us kids the same way. She lived to be 90. We finally had to take her lawn push mower away from her at 87.

“There have been two great revelations in my life. The first was bebop, the second was homeopathy.”–Dizzy Gillespie
“Homeopathy cures a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment and is beyond doubt safer and more economical and (the) most complete medical science.”–Mahatma Gandhi
“I can't manage without homeopathy. In fact, I never go anywhere without homeopathic remedies. I often make use of them.”–Sir Paul McCartney.
Lastly, getting measles in adulthood can be fatal. The younger a person is the easier the childhood infections affect him. In the middle of the last century, before the vaccine, pretty much every child had measles before he reached 15. Surely, some had complications and even died, but the percentage was below .01
Childhood viruses are unique. There is nothing one can do to “soften the blow” - it must and will run its course. Either vaccinate your kid, or hope he will get it in his early years in life.
