Holistic methods can sometimes help issues relating to the labia minora. Kegel exercises are one natural approach. Soaking in baths with baking soda can treat inflammation and infection.

Labia minora is a term used to refer to the two inner flaps of skin located on either side of the female vaginal opening. Situated between the outer labia, the labia minora or inner labia vary extensively in size, color and shape. The labia minora extend from the clitoris diagonally downward, horizontally and backward toward the vestibule and outer lips. The inner lips are typically joined at the midline by a fold of skin while the front of the labia minora split into two portions. Additionally, the labia minora are covered on the external surface by several sebaceous glands that are not related to hair follicles.

Many women express concern regarding their labia minora in reference to the size, color and shape. However, research has shown that the labia minora of women vary widely and may even be of different sizes in the same individual – one inner lip being larger than the other.

Aside from concern over the structure of the labia minora, some women experience pain or health issues related to the labia minora. Pain, enlarged or inflamed tissue and itchy are common issues of the labia minora. Additional concerns include the stretching of the labia minora following childbirth or an unusual or painful lump or growth on or in the inner labia.

Natural Treatment for the Labia Minora

Many women seek vaginoplasty combined with labiaplasty to reshape the vagina and labia; however, surgery is not the only option for issues. Kegel exercises are one approach to tightening the vagina and reforming the labia. Other issues of the labia minora can also be treated homeopathically. Cold compresses, fragrance-free talcum powder and yogurt can relieve swelling and itching of the labia minora. Likewise, baking soda or sulphur dissolved in bath water can also treat inflammation or infection. Keeping the area clean and dry is also important for treating issue and maintaining health.

This is not mentioned here on this site but with respect to labia issues, I wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.

Labia itching, extreme/intense, at the pubic line has plagued me for several years. Recently, I itched while sleeping so bad I caused an ulcer to develop. VERY painful.

The cream my skin doc. had prescribed was not helping with the itching this time. I grabbed a jar of Calcium Bentonite Clay that was handy on my bathroom sink and applied the powder all around. The itching stopped immediately. No pain except the ulcer from patting the powder on it.

It's been 5 days, applying the powder once a day in the am, the ulcer is healing and there is zero itching.

Relief! Hope this helps someone.

Hi there, since having my son, my labia minora grew significantly to the point that wearing underwear is uncomfortable. Doctors have told me that the only way to cure it is to get labiaplasty (cutting the labia off). This is a very painful proceedure, and really scares me. I have even tried using hemroid cream for the loose skin, but nothing seems to work. I wondered if anyone knows of at home remedies to remove or shorten them. Even if it means I have to tie something around them till they fall off! I'm desparate! Elise

I had the surgery years ago. It wasn't that painful. Nothing like childbirth anyway. I am glad I did it.

Hello, I don't know of a natural remedy, but you don't need to be fearful of the surgery. Who told you it is very painful? I had labial reduction surgery about 12 years ago. It was a short outpatient surgery (I was able to go home soon after that same day). It was not that painful as I recall. My only issue was that the antibiotics I took afterward caused a yeast infection, for which my doctor perscribed diflucan. But you can take natural things to prevent this, which I didn't at the time. I am so glad I had it done, as I was so uncomfortable for many years before (since hitting puberty). Best wishes to you and hope it goes well.
