Many of us probably remember the seeming health revolution, as far as prevention goes, when the medical world came out with a vaccine for preventing cervical cancer a few years back. But, despite this game-changing discovery, women continue to be diagnosed with cervical cancer nearly every day, which is why treatment is just as important.
In addition to taking preventative measures, people often use adjunct therapy with natural remedies in addition to traditional treatment for cervical cancer. Vitamin B12, beta carotene, and goldenseal are a few remedies mentioned by Earth Clinic readers.
What Is Cervical Cancer?
Generally speaking, cancer is given a name based on its location in the body. That being said, cervical cancer is obviously cancer that occurs in the cells of the cervix, or the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. The development of cancerous cells in your cervix is most often caused by strains of the human papillomavirus. While most women’s immune systems combat the virus, in some women, the virus remains dormant and causes the cells on the surface of the cervix to become cancerous.
While early forms of cancer typically produce no symptoms, as the condition progresses, you will experience more apparent symptoms. Common indicators of advanced level cervical cancer include vaginal bleeding after intercourse, watery or bloody vaginal discharge that has a foul odor, and pelvic pain or pain during intercourse.
Are There Any Natural Remedies for Cervical Cancer?
Because cervical cancer does not cause many early symptoms, early detection is key. If you are sexually active or over the age of 21, you should begin getting regular Pap tests. If you have been diagnosed with cervical cancer; however, you do have options. Many of the natural remedies that have been identified are effective for supporting medical treatment as well as remedying the condition independently. Some of the best treatment options include vitamin B12, beta carotene, and goldenseal.
Some studies identify vitamin B12 as a key player in treatment for cervical cancer. According to research, vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the key contributing factors to increased HPV infection and, in turn, cervical cancer. Supplementing with the vitamin daily helps replenish your immune function and combats the proliferation of cancer cells in your body. Begin treatment by taking 125 micrograms of vitamin B12 daily.
Research also suggests that beta carotene is an important nutrient used for treating cervical cancer. Beta carotene is a complex that is converted into vitamin A in your body. This nutrient helps clear the HPV infection and eliminate cancerous cells. Begin a treatment regimen by taking 75 milligrams of beta carotene by mouth daily.
Goldenseal is another effective treatment option for cervical cancer. This herbal remedy has astringent properties that cleanse the body. These properties eliminate abnormal cells and actually heal inflamed cells.
Goldenseal also helps stimulate your immune system. You can take goldenseal orally, but it is most effective for treating cervical cancer when used as a douche.
Place 1.5 teaspoons of goldenseal root powder in 3 cups of boiling water and allow it to steep for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture and use it when it has cooled to lukewarm. You may want to use a panty liner after douching with goldenseal, as the herb will leave yellow stains in clothing.
The goldenseal douche should be used three times a week.
In addition to treating cervical cancer with these remedies, you should also maintain a healthy diet and implement practices to protect your body from further exposure to infection.
