I'm so glad I came upon your website. I have an almost 3 year old dog that had blood in her urine the other day. Although she didn't exhibit any other signs like straining, pain, etc. I knew I couldn't let this go. I can't afford to take her to the vet and ended up on the website. I tried 2 tablespoons of ACV mixed in boiled chicken and waited until she went on the pee pads. Not only was there no blood, she was comfortable urinating. Even though her urine is free of any blood, I'm going to continue with the ACV for a couple more days to be safe. Them goodness for your site, you probably saved me thousands of dollars I don't have. She would of had to be sedated prior to going as she is fear aggressive.

My 9 and a half year old golden retriever suddenly started weeing non stop - outside - crying and barking as he weed. - he was very unsettled indoors - crying and whining - I was v worried about him. - I knew that it was highly likely to be a UTI - he's had it once before and was treated with antibiotics. It was 7:30 in the evening - I came across this site and WOW - Apple cider vinegar worked amazing. - I used 2 heaped tablespoons of ACV and equal quantity of water pulled it up through a syringe and jetted it down his throat. (he would not eat it any other way) - I also gave him about 3 tablespoons of natural greek yogurt. Within 45 minutes he was not weeing constantly and settled. - He slept all through the night. I have given him the same dose this morn. He seems absolutely fine -however because its a bank holiday wknd - I have decided to take him to vet and get antibiotics as a standby.
ACV. Wonderful for canine uti. I drink it daily myself! I'm currently giving 1 tsp with 2tblsp yogurt 2xdaily to my female dog. I will give to her for 1wk. She is 14lbs. 15yrs old. Excellent health. All her bloodwork came back normal levels. Can I give this as a preventative to my dog? My female Italian greyhound gets a uti yearly. What do u suggest I give as preventative dose to keep her clear????

My 12 year old westie had completed her anitbiotics and vet treatment 1 week ago after a previous cystitis onset. Then yesterday started again attempting urination very frequently, getting distressed, unable to settle or eat, going to the door to go out about 20 times in a 3 hour period. I could just see it all happening again and she was becoming more upset this time.
Read the comments and suggestions on this site and mixed 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar - (I use it in all cooking and salads) with 1 teaspoon of peanut butter and honey to a paste. I had to get her to lick it off my fingers as she was really off her food. She ate it all quite easily. Over the next hour I observed her and was amazed - I could see her start to settle after 30mins. Slept allnight, she has had one non-distressed wee this morning and eating again. After my female Border Collie came out of heat my intact boys were still VERY interested in her. I was suspisious of a UTI even though she didn't exhibit all the syptoms. My dogs (and I) take ACV daily so with giving her an additional dose plus the plain, uncultured greek yogurt in three small meals throughout the day worked wonders to make her less desirable and feel better. On Friday, Nov 27th I came home to a flood of pee on the ground. There were drops of blood in it, and Rosie was licking herself like crazy. I took her outside where she tried to go on our lawn about 20 times.. just squatting a moaning. I thought back to a few days prior when she had peed in the house completely uncharacteristically.. at the time, I thought it was a one-off but I knew now something was wrong. She had also been peeing more frequently all week. I felt stupid for not putting the pieces together.
When we came back inside, she was.... leaking. GROSS. Sorry. I googled and saw frequent urination, straining to pee, and blood are classic symptoms of a UTI. I was worried because of the blood but it was Friday night so the only option was the emergency vet which costs a fortune. I did some research online and read that raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in combination with plain natural yogurt de-alkalizes the urinary tract and provides near-instant relief. I had heard that this could help but still thought the only thing that could cure this was antibiotics.
Desperate, I ran out and purchased the unpasteurized cider vinegar and some plain Greek yogurt. I came home and took Rosie out... she was wailing at the end of her leash! I reconsidered the vet but ultimately thought she could wait til morning. A dozen more squats on the lawn, and I impatiently brought her in. I mixed a big scoop of yogurt with a couple tablespoons of vinegar. Rosie gagged a little, but being a labrador retriever with a bowl in front of her, she determinedly ate every drop.
Within an hour, she stopped licking herself. A few hours later and she was holding her bladder again. I gave her a little more magic treatment before bed. She made it through the night without an accident.
In the morning, she had to go badly. Throughout Saturday, I took her out every few hours, but she wasn't uncomfortable. She was more eager to go out, but that was about it. I gave her three doses of vinegar and yogurt that day.
By Sunday, she was.... normal?? I couldn't believe it. I know acid helps a urinary tract, but I couldn't believe the amount of distress she had been in and how relieved she was just two days later.
I continued the vinegar and yogurt for a week, once or twice a day. I can attest that there was almost immediate relief. She's now cured!
I have a 1yr old dachshund who exhibited possible signs of a bladder infection. I kept an eye on her for a day or so. When she was peeing blood and it was beyond vet hrs, I came across this website. I went and got some ACV from the store, gave it to her with yogurt and within the hour I noticed that she calmed down and didn't want to go out as much. I gave her one more dose before bed. She slept soundly all night and didn't ask to go out. This is day 2. By day 2, she still pees frequently but not like before and there's no blood in her urine (that's visible at least) as there was before. She's had one accident since the onset of this in the last two days which is better than the multiple she had before. I am praying that this helps her and will update this site in a few days as to how this goes. But I am so thankful to have found this site and this information. It really has saved me on a vet visit (hopefully) and it so much healthier for her after reading each of the posts.

My 14 week old Hungarian Vizsla had a Urine Infection, after 2 weeks of anti-biotics, I wanted to try to prevent this from happening again. I bought Organic Apple Cider Vinegar from my local Supermarket. Put 1 teaspoon in her wet meat mixed with biscuits in the morning and evening. Her lunch was left as normal mix. I tried putting the ACV in her water, but she wouldn't drink it - I think the smell was too strong. The smell of the meat hid the smell of the ACV when mixed with meat. After 2 days she was much better. I continued for 1 week and 'hey presto' she's fine - no more white blood cells in her urine.
I wish to thank everyone for all their information posted. I wouldn't have known about this remedy without reading it here. Thank you.

When my 13 y/o schipperke showed symptoms of a UTI, I took her to the vet. $350 later we had a positive urinalisys, a bottle of antibiotics, and updated x-rays. When our other dog, a younger mixed breed of the same size started showing symptoms of a UTI, we didn't have the funds to go to the vet again. I put a teaspoon of ACV (B. Brand) in some soft food (a grain-free brand) and added it to her regular kibble, along with 1/4 of a cranberry tablet. She's been getting this twice a day for a few days now, and loves it. She licks up all the food, eats the pill, and has no more UTI symptoms. I've also been putting ACV in the schipperke's food as a preventative. Both dogs seem to love the taste!
Another tip: Wash all the dog dishes AND the dogs. UTI is most often caused by E. Coli, and that can come from a variety of sources. I don't know how my two little girls got it, but they both did. Maybe they ate something they shouldn't have, who knows?

My lab mix was having a problem, when she urinated she was only getting a couple of drops of blood out no urine. I called the vet to see how much it was going to cost me just to walk in the door because although I had every intention of taking her, I was not going to have any money for a day or two, so I needed to know if they could accept a check, or bill me or something because I was scared! I was told they only take cash or a debit card and the do no billing. I asked If there was anything I could do for her until I could get her there, they told me they could not tell me anything! I immediately went online to look something up on urinary track infections ( that was what the vet said it sounded like she had) and ran across the site about acv. I have to admit I did not think it would work, however I had nothing to loose by trying this, so I got out the acv and a baby medicine dispenser and gave it to her! She did not like this at all and was very upset with me. We went to bed that night with a heavy heart as to where I was coming up with the money we needed to get her to the vet. The next morning she wanted out to the bathroom I was holding my breath, because unlike the other stories I read she would not go to the bathroom or drink water, and low and behold she went and NO BLOOD droppings. She went for her walk in the morning to take our son to the bus and went again and was running around like her old self again. It was such a relief and quit amazing as to not only work, but work so fast (overnight) I am happy to say she is doing fine and still does not like the taste of acv, but like I told her I would rather have you mad at me for a little while then sick or worse! Long story short thank you for the home remedy, and by the way I only had to give her 1 dropper full for 2 days!
If it happens again, you can probably dilute the 5ml in water before dosing to make it easier for your dog to take. Maybe 5ml of Apple Cider Vinegar and 30 ml of water...
It's important to get her PH levels right, using baking soda/bicarbonate of soda. If you look on here, you will get the information on that. If she's been having antibiotics, you will need to balance her gut flora. I would start giving her doses of colloidal silver. Daily. Again, info on here.

You certainly can give D-mannose to dogs and some folks find it very helpful.
One other thing to consider is diet; a grain based diet has been linked to UTI's in pets. Please read your dog food label and check for corn and grains. If you see them in the ingredients it is time to change to a grain free brand as corn and grains may be the culprit.

WORKED TEMPORARILY
Six months ago my darling baby Bobby had a UTI and the vet said if it recurred he would have to be put to sleep and I was devistated. I found this site and started to rub some fresh chicken every day in apple cider vinegar as well as adding a crushed cantharis tablet for cysitis in humans to the chicken. It worked a treat for six months, or so I thought, however, he was rushed to the vets today, once again with the same thing. He was lethargic and crying and could hardly walk. He is now on a drip for two days and I am worried sick. Is there anything else which I could try if he pulls through? I was so happy that it seemed to be working but it was not to be.
Here is something to consider in reference to your pet's rear end...chiropractic for pets...our little guys do well with an adjustment by a chiro who is licensed for pets and people!! Nerves that feed through the body to the various organs can often get congested and pinched off so as a result, dis-ease develops...give it a try if you haven't already made up your mind..and he also probably needs more than ACV..a good homeopathic vet might be in order....
Hello-- I found this site when looking up why my dog is trying to pee numerous times but only a little bit would come out. I followed the advice and gave him ACV and plain yogurt. He is peeing more than he was but I can't tell if it's blood or the vinegar. Would he be peeing the color of the vinegar? Although he is peeing more he still is peeing small amounts often. Should I continue with the ACV or take him to the vet? Sorry so long. Thank you in advance.

The Apple Cider Vinegar helped! I teaspoon BID (twice a day) mixed in the wet food plus some chopped parsley from my garden and my dog is his normal self again. No more accidents around the house. This is day 4 of the treatment, and we could put our steamcleaner back in the basement.
I wonder why our Vet rather prescribe Antibiotics before recommending this.

I have a 9-yr-old Plott Hound (100 lbs) who has been having recurring UTIs. Every time it's been off to the vet, then $250 later home with another bottle of antiobiotics. Once she's off the antibiotics, the UTI comes back.
I fortunately found this site and tried the ACV cure-- and it worked! I used 2T raw ACV ("with the mother) mixed with 2T organic plain yogurt, mixed w/food, 2x day. After the first dose she improved, and after 5 days now she seems completely cured! I will gradually step down the dosage and then keep her on 1x/week to keep things normal. I am SO thrilled that I found this website, thank you all!

My Puppy (black lab) of 2 monthes old had a uti and was put on an antibiotic. To make a long story short she ended up taking 3 different antibiotics and DL methionine. She is now 4 months old and after spending 575.00 on vet bills I tried the organic ACV and after 5 days had a special test called INDEXX urine culture and urinalysis. Just got a phone call from the vets office and they said the infection is gone. Now I don't know if it was because of the last antibiotic she was on but I believe the ACV worked. I gave Her 1teaspoon a day mixed with a tablespoon of plain yogurt mixed with her dog food. Now my little pee wee is well and I could'nt be happier.

Thank You for this website! After spending $400.00 ( in which I DO NOT HAVE) on tests and antibiotics 6 months ago. My 13 yr old dog once again was showing signs of bladder infection. The ACV treatment WORKED! Vets are so Important and Thank GOD they are there, But the truth is MANY of them are OVERPRICED and Unwilling to understand that Most people do Not have hundreds of dollars to spend on thier pets. The Apple Cider Vinegar treatment for my dog's UTI was a God send! Of course the vets don't want you to use this treatment, because it works and they don't get your money! Is it a cureall for everything? Of course not, but it seems to work for the UTI issue. My dog was wanting to pee all the time and was starting to have accidents in the house - something she never did before. My friend referred me to this web-site and I am very grateful to her. I immediately when to my cupboard and found my ACV. I had a baby syringe that holds 1/2 Tablespoon and gave my 28 lb. Corgi two syringe fulls of straight ACV. I then followed that up with her Bil-Jac treats, then gave her two syringes full of water, because she wasn't wanting to drink from her water dish. I put her in the laundry room overnight and she did pee twice on the towels I put out but there was no blood in her urine. So, this morning, when I put her outside, she only peed once and was ready to come back in - yesterday, she would just wander the yard trying to pee over and over. I have her another treatment of the ACV and added a syringe of orange juice and she has had no more accidents and seems to be feeling better. Just took her outside to pee again and not only did she only pee once, but felt like staying outside on her rug for awhile and enjoy the nice weather. I have now added a few drops of ACV to her water dish and she is drinking it now. Thanks EarthClinic! You not only helped to make my dog better, but saved my pocketbook, as well! A few thoughts for you. Read the pages on ACV for dosing ideas. I tend to go heavy and hide it in canned tuna, while others have smaller doses in water. Chronic infections make me think your girl is constantly being exposed to something that disagrees with her. It may be helpful to have a log or journal and record everything she takes by mouth - all treats, chewies, and human food. Consider the grain free diet you are feeding may also be the culprit and consider changing protiens. So if you are feeding a chicken based diet try a beef based diet and give it 6 weeks while you record results. Also consider on a rotating basis alkalizing her drinking water with baking soda, and also Ted's Borax protocol for dogs - another water treatment. Finally consider her conformation - if she has an 'inny' vulva this may be something she has to out grow and innies usually resolve with the first heat cycle. Please keep us posted!
Make sure you get her checked out for worms too, sometimes pups can get that and it just makes them pee more because they are sensitive to that, most importantly get your dog off of commercial dog food. Please see Dr Dobias (Canadian Veterinarian) for his products, articles and videos, also join their community. Feeding a dog raw especially for a puppy is crucially important, if you do research on the commercial food industry you will cringe that you allowed a bag of that food open in you home, I know I did and thus our journey to a better simpler life began for our dog and us, and it turns out its cheaper in more than one way and you get smaller less smelly poops and a happy healthy dog. To make the transition cook your food and mix it for 2-4 days there should be no issues, then just go full speed ahead with just cooked food, there are many support sites out there find a few and look at the reviews until you find what suits you.
A must have is Dr Pitcairn's (American Veterinarian) book(he will walk your through a lot of questions on feeding and illness), even the old version is priceless. As long as there is nothing medically wrong you should see a lot of improvements just with a diet change almost immediately, please get support for this and be patient. A vet you can talk to that is not trying to sell you their commercial dog food is so important, a holistic one is priceless but not so easy to find let alone afford. Music to a desperate fur mama's ears. My old baby girl (12/13yrs old she's a rescue) has been peeing pretty bloody for about two days now. Took her to a second opinion vet today and she had a good blood report, but her urine test wasn't so good. Bacteria and blood in the urine(obviously). We are going back Thursday morning for a sonogram to see if what the vet is seeing in her bladder is a clot or crystals.
She did send me two prescriptions and an anti inflammatory, but I would love to try adding the ACV to her water in addition.
I have my maltese on antibiotics for struvite kidney stones and a UTI infection. Just found this site and gave her some ACV. She didn't want to take it mixed in water or food, so I gave it to her straight with a syringe, followed by water and a raw treat for being so good. My question is should I be giving it to her while she's on an antibiotic or wait until she finishes her meds?
I have a pie bald doxie and she too has had the operation less than 10 mos. ago for bladder stones. I have had her on a raw diet and watch her weight and add a chicken or beef broth to her raw food along with ACV in the broth. I think its helping to impede the what I fear is some sort of genetic predisposition to stones. She is having some symptoms again like frequent urination and what appears to be longer attempts at peeing. Sometimes, like tonight her pee, she peeped in the house was VERY pungent and foul smelling. How is your dog doing now? Does anyone else have what appears to be development of recurrences of bladder stones. She's quite young --about 3 now(rescued at about age 1)and had the stones at about 2 so I fear this is kind of a congenital problem that will be a life long struggle.
