Aspirin is an inexpensive and very effective home remedy for canker sores. This remedy is less painful than many natural treatments for canker sores; in fact, the aspirin, being a pain reliever, often takes the pain away from the canker sore as well as bringing healing to the sore.
How to Use Aspirin for Canker Sores
1. Take one aspirin and crush it between two spoons.
2. Sprinkle the powder onto the canker sore and let it slowly dissolve. Some of our readers apply the aspirin whole to the canker sore. Leave the aspirin powder on the canker sore for at least 5 minutes.
Some of our readers have applied aspirin powder to their canker sore just before retiring at night and found this to be quite effective.
Adult or baby aspirin can be used for canker sores. Coated aspirin should not be used.
Cautions for the Aspirin Treatment for Canker Sores
Do not use more aspirin for canker sores in a day than is recommended for oral use. The aspirin will be absorbed into the body and also swallowed. If you have a bleeding disorder, or low platelets, bear in mind that aspirin is used as a blood thinner and has anti-platelet properties. If you take prescription blood thinners, be sure that aspirin is compatible with your medication.
The aspirin cure for canker sores should not be used by anyone under the age of 18 if he also has chicken pox or the flu because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome.
