We have done a lot of different things to recover my daughter from her seizure activity, and she is now 95% seizure free. Dietary changes that removed her triggers were key, along with optimizing her vitamins and minerals. She also uses natural bio-identical progesterone for her catamenial seizures, and has had great success with that as well.

Hi, I used coconut oil daily basis when cooking and with paste of turmeric that has reduced seizures. I used to have seziures every second day and stress was my biggest concern. A neurolgist tried to put me on new drug, however I had history of depression since childhood so I continued to see how my body responds to this diet of coconut oil and turmeric.

Ketogenic diet stops epileptic seizure in a significant percentage of children. Read below.
I believe this excerpt from Thomas Levy's book deserves an additional cure for ketogenic diet. The book is called "Curing the Incurable" 3rd edition, ebook page 316 of 7745.
In one of the more recent references in the April, 2000 issue of Pediatrics eleven studies on the ketogenic diet were reviewed. The authors concluded that the ketogenic diet completely stopped medically unresponsive seizures in a significant percentage of children. The diet also reduced seizure frequency by over 90% in an even greater percentage of children! Similar articles were found in the various neurology and epilepsy journals. Sadly, it would seem that many pediatricians and pediatric neurologists do not know what is in the most current issues of their primary and specialty journals.

Hello, I am wondering how you are doing? Did you get off the keppra? My 14yr daughter had her first 8 seizures since March 2016. She is on 500mg a day of the keppra but still had 3 seizures while on it and Neuro just wants to double the dosage but I don't want to and want to wean her off eventually of it for good. Still working on being seizure free though, whole foods supplements, all the B's, mag, taurine, omega 3.... now looking into the cbd oil...Thanks for sharing...hope all is well!

Thank you Faithinhealing for sharing that information. I have epilepsy since my early 30s and been taking first Dilantin and now Phenytoin. Now I'm in my early 60s. Now, because I have wait till March of this year to see my doctor, I'm about to run out of medicine. My doctor won't renew until he sees me, but told my pharmacy to give me enough medicine to last until middle of March. Except the pharmacy disobeyed the doctor and only give me one month supply instead two and half months that I'm supposed to get. So, I was very glad when you mentioned the coconut oil. Again, thank you. Now I have an alternative cure to help me.

Bill,
Lovely to read your msg. It gives me confidence that I will be able to write the same in 2 years time. I have just started using coconut oil 3 days ago with serious intention. I am 60yrs now having 1 seizure approx. every 10 days. the meds don't work and I hate the side-effects, especially now that I am getting older. What got you started? Did you need to add MCT oil also & why have you added the vitamins. You mention about a diet change, What did you alter it? It'll be great to communicate with you to share experiences, positive & negative.
Thanks Michele

Fish oil and spirulina for intractable epilepsy.
I started spirulina in Dec.2014 each day and added fish oil last year plus vitamins: as of Nov.2016, I haven't had major (collapsing) seizure for over three months. Also take 5000 IU Vit, D3 (liquid for under tongue) because I am celiac w/leaky gut: as well as vitamins E, zinc and B6 and tyrosine and 3000 mg taurine.
Believe I am over-medicated so have reduced my medication occasionally with no effect.

Good observation but there are other likely culprits like food preservatives Sodium Nitrate and Monosodium Glutamate. I doubt that Sage alone would cause seizures but maybe interacting with something else. Anyway, you would need to get a list of ALL the added ingredients going into the sausage and go from there.

For years I have had seizures. The medications finally got to the point of not controlling them. I was doing research on anything I could find to help. I would notice mine would tend to be more in the fall/ winter time which didn't make any since to me. I was a attending a lot of meat shoots and winning fresh sausage, eating dressing at Thanksgiving and at Christmas. What did this have in common? Sage! I looked up in my herb book that anyone that had seizures was to avoid sage. Since I have done this I have now been having less seizures (it's been 7 1/2 years now)since I have had one. A friend also tried doing without sausage just to see, (he couldn't make it through breakfast without having a seizure)so he ate bacon a week and was seizure free, and when he ate the sausage again, BOOM a seizure. Just wondered if anyone else had this before.

Coconut oil and vitamins are a big help for seizures.
I eat, drink, cook with organic coconut oil as much as I can. One of my favorite drinks is coconut water. I also enjoy flavored drinks that are partially coconut. These drinks are all organic. Every time that I cook in a pan, I never use vegetable oil or butter. Instead, I use organic coconut oil. When cooking in a pot, the recipe usually asks you to add some butter. Instead of butter, I always add coconut oil. That tastes good and is very good for the body and brain. My coconut oil hardens on it's own, so I usually take a chunk out of the bottle. When I do want to measure it, I put it in the microwave for a short period of time. That liquefies it. I also use the coconut oil on wounds. It heals them quickly. I also take vitamins to help my epilepsy. The ones that I take, because I feel that they also are healing my epilepsy, are: Omega, Turmeric, CoQ10, and Methyl B-12. I no longer eat any Dairy foods or drinks. All of this, is on top of how I still am taking my medicines. Even though I do, I lowered my medicine dose about a year ago, mainly because the doctors dislike lowering their patient's dose.
This year, I'm 58 years old. Before I changed my diet so strongly, about 2 years ago, I was having 2 seizures every week, during my whole life. As of today, it has been 4 months since my last seizure.

Someone in my family developed grand mal seizures just over a year ago at the age of 52. He had 4 big seizures within a 6 month period, lost part of his memory & he refused to take any form of meds. I read here on EC about Epsom salt and I immediately bought food grade Epsom salt. He takes half teaspoon in the morning & same in the evening with pure orange juice. We also had to cut out on food additives & went on natural food.
It's now 8 months of seizure free & we thank God & EC for this forum. It will take a while for the body to rid the toxins so don't give up. Epsom salt is natural and has no side effects.
I hope this post will help someone & save lives.

Dear Deborah,
When taking coconut oil for medicinal purposes, I use extra virgin and have taken it any number of ways - in coffee, off the spoon, mixed into oatmeal, added to cooked vegetables etc. While I do cook with it some, I am suspecting that some of the nutrients (enzymes, perhaps) would be lost in cooking, so don't count that as part of my daily dose of coconut oil, if I am taking it for medicinal purposes.

After struggling with signs of stroke for 2 weeks after 4 vaccinations in one office visit, my 2-year old granddaughter has been left with a seizure disorder. Since her pediatrician refused to help us heal her, we looked for natural cures while searching for another doctor. Frankincense essential oil has been a lifesaver. She is seizure free unless she contracts a cold, but even then only has a few while asleep and not the hundreds each day that she was having initially. We are waiting to be seen by a Functional Medical practitioner for some testing to see if we're dealing with heavy metals poisoning or gut dysbiosis, but being able to mitigate as much brain damage as possible and provide her some quality of life in the interim is priceless. Since she's so small, we dilute the Frankincense - 3 drops per 1 tsp of carrier oil which, for us, is typically fractionated coconut oil.
EC: Dear Melanie, thank you for your feedback on frankincense oil.
Can you please give us more information (in both of your posts) on where you applied the frankincense oil on the body? Also, did you spend time massaging it in? Thank you very much!

T.He most common trigger for seizures is the neurotoxic substances used as favor enhancers in food.. msg, aspartame and the worst, modified food starch are all neurotoxins which excite the neurons in the brain literally to death. Dr Russel Blaylock has studied these substances and labels them excitotoxins. He has found that aside from giving seizures, many forms of cancer and migraine from hell that these neurotoxic substances literally kill neurons in the brain.
Cancer researchers are astounded at the speed of growth and ferocity exhibited by cancer cells when exposed to these neurotoxic chemicals.
Msg, modified food starch and aspartame cause cancer cells to grow pseudopodia octopus like tentacles which they use to invade nearby tissue when they wish to become more aggressive and metastatic..
Brain tumor has a potential of inducing seizures and these chemicals encourage cancer growth and development..
These same chemicals help to induce seizures therefore restricting the diet of all forms of free glutamic acid is the best starting point to control seizures Read the writings of Dr Russel Blaylock about these dangerous neurotoxins.
Here is another good article for you about diet and how to control seizures naturally

We all wish you the best of luck helping your child with the Ketogenic diet. John's Hopkins hospital in Baltimore was the birthplace of the diet, and it is described in Julia Schopick's best seller book, "Honest Medicine." Another resource is The Charlie Foundation, created by a man in Hollywood after researching and finding success using it with his son Charlie. He made a movie about it starting Meryl Strep called "First Do No Harm" or something similar. Here is a resource to that foundation:

Hi, just in regard to your article about the use of 'meditation' ... I have temporal lobe epilepsy and was advised by my Neurologist that meditation could be more harmful to someone with this condition due to our hyper active minds, it could be hard to silence our mind? He suggested using repetitive tasks, like walking, writing etc or any task that involves using methods which assist the body, to become more 'grounded' Long story, but finding a 'meditation with movement' seems to work for me ... ex: I study a lot of philosophy and I have read that 'Einstein recommended that (for a man) ~ early morning shaving was a great way to focus the mind at the beginning of the day ...

A very common trigger for seizures is the ever increasing amount of excitotoxins in our food. Certain substances have the ability to stimulate neurons to the point of killing brain cells by over stimulation. Free glutamic acid is a really bad thing for causing dangerous neuronal stimulation. When the amino acid bonds are broken that link glutamate to other amino acids the result is glutamate can readily bond with glutamate receptors on brain cells (same with cancer cells). It is kinda like having a car with the gas pedal stuck going wide open fast as it can go. What are the usual sources for free glutamic acid? Aspartame, modified food starch and msg.
Dr Russel Blaylock might soon be your best friend. Read his articles and books to understand the problem in depth. You need to avoid all forms of free glutamic acid like the plague. That is not an easy chore since modified food starch is deliberately put in almost everything you eat these days.
Aside from excitotoxins, food allergies can also trigger seizures. Damage to the intestines can result in intestinal permeability. Candida can do that as it grows roots called hyphae through the intestinal wall and into the blood stream. An example, cancer patients invariably have tons of cellular debris in their blood from candida hyphae and foreign proteins entering through damaged intestinal lining. Serrapeptase, a systemic enzyme, quickly acts to digest all this cellular debris cleansing the blood and thereby reducing autoimmune reactions to foreign proteins. Serrapeptase also acts as a very powerful anti-inflammatory, reducing brain swelling. Often doctors give steroidal anti-inflammatories which certain organisms feed off of such as mycoplasma. End result is the patient often gets worse after treatment instead of better.
A host of many different types of virus and mycoplasma can initiate seizures as a result of brain swelling and inflammation. Its a good idea to get tested for viral types associated with causing seizures. If found then you are one step closer to a cure.
High dose vitamin c has helped quite a few to remain seizure free..
Boswellia herb has kept seizures under control for many as well. It is a powerful antiinflammatory that crosses the blood brain barrier. Works to control brain tumor too
Here is a cool article on a glutamate restricted diet that seems to greatly reduce seizures.

Omg, I was reading your post just like I would read what I do and what happens to me. I had an eating disorder for many years and some alcohol usage, but I'm not quite sure if only insulin and sugar balance is the reason. My seizures (CPS-space and language related) started about 4 years ago, when I was still binging, and got more often and more and then finally I got grand Mal and it got serious. This was over 1,5 years ago (I'm 37 now) I'm also natural and don't believe in drugs. I have noticed very close correlation between my food intake and seizures. Almost every time I have food, I have a seizureal now. But I remember eating good a lot of fats and having some relief, but I don't want to eat so much...I also was getting some results with intermittent fasting. When I did maybe 3-4 days of eating less, I could have even a week seizure free! But now they back :/ I do the coconut oil but not regularly. I will try to be consistent with it and see how it works. Thank you so much for sharing. Sending love...

People with Epilepsy have to have a year seizure free before they can drive. My husband went just over a year without a seizure, he then had one as he was about to do his theory and hasn't been able to drive since as he is having frequent seizures. I don't think Epileptics are banned from driving, they are just have to be under control for a certain length of time before considering it.

HI U ANGELLA, , , , , , , , been down that black out trail from age 30 to about age 45. Went to all the biggies, Temple White, UBA, Mayo's and others. All said I was hyperventilating and I knew better. But I now think they were right and I was wrong. You can hyperventilate without deep breathing.
Stress will cause you to breath shallow and fast and not have time for your CO2 to build up. A Little Rock doctor put me on Dilantion, which is for epileptics and that drug wasted my bones away and now I have osteoporosis. I finally grew out of that condition and no longer have the black out problem, but I now have problems from the drugs that were prescribed for me.
If your daughter is a hard charger, then that may be her problem. Let me suggest that she learn how to breath. Babies know how to breath. Adults don't . I would go down lots of trails before I got on the Big Pharma Road. You will cut off your nose to spite your face. Take her to Dr Shallenberger or Dr Robert Rowen .
These drugs will haunt her until life's end.

My daughter who is now 22 years had her first seizure at 17. At the time she was diagnosed with a panic attack, especially because it was the night before a Major exam in Physics. She later went on to college, and 2 years later was diagnosed with epilepsy and placed on Epilim. She was non compliant as so one night I was called from a gym where he had another attack, hence the conclusion. This was in 2012. My observation however is that she seem to only get an attack whenever she ovulates and sometimes when she becomes upset or anxious. She seem pretty fine otherwise but the situation stresses me as I am afraid that this may occur when there is no one there to assist her.

A long time ago, in the 1950s and 1960s Dr Abram Hoffer discovered that there was a condition that could develop which caused varying degees of schizophrenia, bipolar, depression and ADHD as well as seizures and other physical symptoms.
This condition was called Pyroluria. This problem was caused by massive self reinforcing deficiencies of both vitamin B6 and Zinc. You should also be aware that there is much contentious dispute over the Hoffer research on Pyroluria between allopathic medicine and the orthomolecular doctors who discovered this problem and the apparent cure. But allopathic medicine has absolutely no answer or cure for this problem -- whereas orthomolecular medicine, being much more honest(not just profit driven), does seem to have an explanation and a cure.
The easiest and cheapest way to find out your vitamin and mineral status is simply to get a hair analysis.
I would also advise that you switch to a doctor who is up-to-speed and knowledgeable concerning pyroluria if you want proper treatment. The treatment essentially consists of taking massive doses of zinc and B6 as well other vitamins. Therefore it is strongly advised that you also get professional help so that you can be monitored safely while taking these higher mineral/vitamin dosages.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 22. I was having seizures for about 2 years before getting an MRI and EEG. I was having mild seizures only lasting between 1-2 minutes. I had a poor diet and life style and if I didn't get enough sleep or had low sugar level or consumed alcohol the night before feeling stressed, I would nearly always have a seizure. I was having about one seizure every 2 weeks and was bruised nearly all of the time and my tongue was swollen most of the time. I traveled from the UK to Australia and started to see a naturopath regularly. (natural health doctor) I took all the vitamins that I got prescribed and started living alot more of a healthy, stress-free life. I've lived in Australia for two years and I've never had a seizure while living here.
I was in a house fire when I was 19, which left me with an 85% burn so the stress and high doses of painkillers I had taken contributed to my seizures, but I was still having regular seizures a year after I stopped taking any kind of pain killers, so I'm guessing something in my brain needed to neurologically heal and it did. I no longer take Lamotrigine medication and am still seizure free

I'm back! We did have to act quickly as our son's epilepsy was picking up speed, and our son is on Depakote and the Ketogenic Diet (after meds "failed to control" within 6 weeks).
So, that being said we are 7 MONTHS seizure FREE, and still looking into causes/sources. After having a Epilepsy panel done, it is now known that his epilepsy is NOT genetic.
A friend and I keep circling back to the vitamin B deficiency. Seizures, poor dental, also rashes (rosy cheeks). We are looking into Biotin (vitamin B) deficiency as a possible source at this time as well.
