Moon Cycle
Posted by Carly (Seattle, Wa Usa) on 03/13/2011

Hi -
I was reading that this month is something called a "SuperMoon" on March 19th. The moon will be closer to the earth then than it has been in the last 18 years. Going on the things I have read in the past on how the moon effects a womans monthly cycle....I am wondering how many of you are having issues this month that you normally don't? I always cycle at 28 days...ALWAYS. Except this month. One week late. No, not pregnant. Just wondering if anyone else has had any unusual stuff going on...
Thanks for any input!

Your menstual cycle is based on your hormones... not the moon.

Thanks for the feedback Robin - I am normally spot on (no pun intended) every 28 days too - that is why I was wondering it there were others experiencing off things this month. I appreciate your sharing!

M- If it is purely hormones that control the menstrual cycle, than how come over 200,000 results come up when I type "Menstrual cycle and the moon" on a certain search engine?

I for one, find this "SuperMoon" stuff absolutely fascinating!

Here is an excerpt from "menstruation.com.au":

Human beings are affected by the moon. Women especially are affected by the moon and their menstrual cycle is intimately linked to this celestial body.

The moon:

  • regulates your menstrual cycle,

  • can trigger ovulation and fertile times,

  • affects your emotions and

  • affects the way people behave and view the world.

  • Women are connected to the moon by our blood, our hormones and our souls.

The first step in claiming the gifts of our menstrual cycle is to become re-acqainted with Mother Moon. Putting aside all the scientific phenomena of the way the Moon affects the earths tides, weather, animals, fluids and moods, symbolically the Moon has a lot to teach us.

In myth the Moon is a primary female archetype travelling the great round of Birth, Maturation, Death and Rebirth each month. This is a primal fundamental cycle of the universe of which every single living thing participates.

HI U CARLY,
First I want to say that listening to you and your menstrual cycle and the phase of the moon is not offensive to me. I find it very educational.

I am sorry if I offended folks by saying we in deep stuff due to the goins on in Japan. Of course you Left Coast folks will know sooner than us in the fly over country. Have a nice day.====RH===

My periods are normally 26 days, but this time its due more about 2 weeks. No, not pregnant. Moon does effect our menstrual cycles. When we are in the first 3 days of the cycle and it happens to be a full moon day, the bleeding will be heavy at nights. I have experienced it first hand.

I have to agree, the moon does have an effect. I have amenhorrea (very very infrequent periods) and I'm having my first in over a year. Very bad, very crampy, and what do you know........ Supermoon cycle. I am convinced there is a link. I'll let you know if I have another ne in 18 years!

My daughters cycle actually is longer this month heavier on the 19th. Only been mensturating less than a year. I thought that was a reason. This could be another reason to consider.

Wow! I was wondering why this past cycle was so strange and off! I forgot it was the month of the supermoon. I was about 2 weeks late on my period and negative on pregnancy.

Red Raspberry Tea

Raspberry Leaf tea is considered the "women's tea". It helps with adrenal glands, and contains iron, calcium and various vitamins. Somehow it helps with the uterus. During menstration it has been amazing how it takes away cramping for me quickly! I also use the tea bag after I am done and put it on my face, and it tightens my pores! During pregnancy I always drink Raspberry leaf tea. It is quite expensive from the natural food store. So, I learned to make my own. I take the leaves off the plants, rinse them off with water, and let dry. Once dry (1-2 weeks) I crush them and store them. I then use them like any tea. It is now a great free beverage I share with my kids too!

Red Raspberry and Cinnamon Bark

★★★★★

For profuse menstruation drink freely of a tea made with red raspberry leaves and cinnamon bark or cinnamon bark alone. This remedy will be found very effective for reducing pain and flow.

In a gel-capsule combine ground cinnamon and dried red raspberry leaves of equal volume; not by volume weight. Combine half the gel-cap with cinnamon and the other half with red raspberry. Gently packed the red raspberry leaves. The gel cap size is of your choice. I use size 00.

An easy way to fill a capsule is to place the ground or powdered material in a saucer or on a plate and scoop the two sections of the capsule together through the material; both halves will fill.

Fill one whole capsule with ground cinnamon and one whole capsule with dried ground red raspberry leaves. Use half of the cinnamon capsule and it place on one end of half the red raspberry capsule. Look at the capsule halves closely as one side is longer and a little bit bigger. This is so the two halves will combined to make one capsule.

Supplements

PMS/Menstruation/Migraines:

I decided to try a new vitamin and supplement regime to get myself off of a very expensive migraine medication that I needed without fail on a monthly basis! However I've been surprised at the changes that went beyond just no migraines. I felt happy, no bloating, lots of energy, and once my period started, I didn't have the awful lower back pain (I actually cleaned the car and ran errands on the first day), and NO MIGRAINES! If you can believe it I didn't even need an Advil. I'm kind of amazed at this because I don't have a great diet, and don't get as much exercise as I should. Unfortunately it's hard to tell what exactly is doing the trick, but from research on this site and others I've started taking:
*SAMe - S-adenosylmethionine - 12 days before - noticeable improvement in mood
*Vitamin B6 - start 12 days before
*Vitamin B complex - daily
*probiotic - daily
* Vit E - daily
*Mg - daily
*Calcium - daily - at night - to help with sleep, and interferes with absorption of other vitamins
* 1 tbsp flax oil, split over 1.5 tsp am and pm or I feel nauseous
* Salmon oil - daily
* 2 tbs apple cider vinegar - one am and one pm - so far only the common brand but will try organic next time
* garlic tablets (improves circulation)

I've also been taking melatonin, starting 12 days before, but I suspect that it's actually making my sleep worse, though some sites say it can help with migraines.

I am very, very happy today because I prayed to God to help to find a cure to my promblem and he did. I suffer with fibriod and cyst since I was 25 years old. I had a myomectomy to remove them in 1997 and they grew back with a vengenace. I then had terrible periods with heavy clothing and excruciating pains. I had to be wearing pampers as pads were always causing my clothes to be messed up. I also had very irregular periods and infertility. After still having the same problem after my surgery I went to a Iredologist and Naturapathic doctor who gave me a 3 days fasting and cleansing along with her own medicines and instruction of what not to eat. My period regulated (I now had regular cycle which I never had since the age of 16)and the pain and heavy bleeding went away. Three years later I came off the vegetarian diet and two years after that the problem started again. I still was unable to conceive and worst my periods became very very irregular as the years progressed. In 2005 I saw my period and it never came again until middle 2006. Then once in 2007 then again three times April,May and June 2008 after I had used flaxseed oil recommed by my friend to simulate its arrival. I did not see my period after that and in 2009 I became very depress because the flaxseed oil was not working I then thought I was in menopause I then was led by God to this site and must say the ACV, Blackstrap Molasses and 2 Flaxseed oil tablet has now so far restore my period with no heavy bleeding nor pain. I hardly feel the bulky fibriods nor the symptoms of the fibriods or cyst. I however still have not gotten pregnant yet. I am still hoping and praying this will happen soon.

Can anyone tell me of something that can assist me in getting pregnant after having myomectomy surgery. Thank you all very much.

Hi I have a fibroid 2.2 in my uterus as well as polyps and endo thick wall since last two years I was bleeding heavily for around 10 days five months back this worsened and my periods would not stop. The doctor did a D&C on me in August and there was no malignant issue after five weeks of D&C. I got my menses which did not stop I was again bleeding heavily and getting big clots. The doctor put me on primolut N to regulate. When I stopped after 20 days I got my menses and I was back again to heavy bleeding. Again the doctor asked me to take primolut. Two weeks back I came across this website and immediately went and bought ACV and soda bicarb and also unsulphured molasses and started having this along with primolut. When I stopped the pill and got my menses the first day was okay but the second day was the worst of my life I had HUGE clot of blood almost the length and breadth of my pad and when I went to the toilet it fell off on the potty I was scared seeing the size of that... But after that I felt as if my body has settled down I had no more clots but as always the bleeding did not stop until even the 6th day and I was told to take primolut again...

Can Ted or anyone tell me why this happened? I have been religiously having ACV twice a day and molasses once or twice a day but still am bleeding, can ACV and primolut be taken together? Thanks so much in advance for any response- appreciate it."

I had the same problem. I have PCOS and had an ovary removed. I had fertility issues. I had to take Clomid in a pill form in order to get pregnant also going on the Atkins diet helped with the weight gain of this and allowed me to have three beautiful children with only one ovary. Please speak with your Dr. about this and good luck and God Bless!

Hi :) I stumbled on your post today and couldn't figure out whether to reply or not. Then I thought who knows it might change your life!! Well I used to have irregular menses too and my sister too. But mine was worse : bleeding for a whole month. As for her, she would have it only after three or four months. After taking evening primrose oil, it came back to normal ... Maybe you could try to have somebody to advise you or google on the benefits of evening primrose oil. Maybe you should have a blood sample taken to know if you lack iron ... just a piece of my mind. Hope it's enough to get you on the right track. And uh, yes, I would be glad to know if it worked or not. Take care

I've been reading all sorts of articles that talk about heavy period bleeding. I usually flood two tampons at once, yes, I wear two at one time and I have to wear Depends with them. I'm 23 and I've had this problem since I was 11. I woke up at 2am this morning because I was bleeding so badly and couldn't go to sleep. I found this site read the articles and went to the 24 hour grocery store near my house. I've just taken apple cider vinegar, molasses, vitamin c and molasses. I will report back and let you know if it worked.

Have your ferritin level checked - this is directly related to iron storage. You want it to be around 70-90. My period used to be so heavy when my ferritin levels were really low. Supplementing with iron to raise this brought a big improvement in the bleeding. I took a liquid supplement which gave me no stomach or bowel problems. It does take some time to raise your levels.

CAUTION: No one should supplement with iron without knowing their levels first, and you should check them periodically when supplementing. High iron in the body can do you a lot of damage. If you do supplement, take it with vitamin C and L-lysine, and about 10 minutes or so before meals, to maximize absorption. Taking a B-complex regularly is also a good idea.

I have a friend who was cured of very heavy bleeding by drinking red raspberry leaf tea. I have also heard that taking vitex (chaste berry) extract will cure this. It's supposed to be very good for balancing hormones, male and female. It's reported to work in as little as 10 days, although it takes 3-6 months for full effect. I ordered mine from Puritan's Pride. Several people I know have just begun taking it, so I'll post results later.

Hi, I want to add to this! I have had painful periods to the point of fainting in the past, and I too found that the Chaste Tree herb did absolute wonders. I think it's full name is something like Vitex Castus Agnus or something? Anyway, it is cheap, and combined with limited dairy and a healthy diet & exercise, this completely got rid of ALL of my symptoms. I also have taken Magnesium, which was/is just as important I think, but it is definitely the Chaste Tree that has done it for me.. :)

Low Immunity Issues
Posted by Kimberly (Cut Bank, MT) on 02/19/2009

I have a difficult question, because I've never heard of anyone with this problem. Every month when I have a period, I either get downright sick with whatever is going around at the time (usually resperitory) or I at least get a headache and sore throat. I never feel good at that time of the month. The sore throat thing doesn't seem at all connected to having a period, but it happens every month and I've begun to associate a period with a sore throat and headache. On a side note, I am trying natural progesterone creams to try to get my periods to space out because the longest I can go between them (with cream) is 25 days. Without cream it's always 21 days. Any suggestions? Thanks

i use a variety of homeopathic and herbal remedies as needed and have found that often various homeopathic remedies, such as arnica or a combination for colds, will induce my menstural period. i found this to happen at various times during my cycle, even after just completing my period i will have another one right away. no one i've spoken with has experienced this or heard of it before. does anyone know why this may occur?

Apple Cider Vinegar, Blackstrap Molasses

I was reading about the heavy bleeding and experienced the same thing several years ago. I found out I was hypothyroid. Then my sister experienced the same thing and found she was hypothyroid also. We called it liver chunks.

Please go and get your thyroid levels checked. If you are hypothyroid, make sure you don't consume goitrogens which interfere with thyroid function such as soy products, uncooked broccoli or cabbage, peanuts or fluoride.

question regarding ACV and molasses: I have a question regarding acv and molasses...just recently started taking both. My question is whether you need to take both every day or only during your period or even just start right before your cycle? I'm very excited to try this natural remedy but don't want to take it every day if I don't need to. thanks.

OK, I read all your postings. I've been menstruating for 21 days now, and usually only have 5 days. So I got some Raspberry Tea, put 2 Tbsps. of Blackstrap Molasses in it (a little heavy, but tolerable) and ACV in grape juice (not a highlight of my day). Here's to hoping it works. I'm trying to get pregnant, so the 3 week period is not helping. I'll keep you posted.

Epsom Salt
Posted by Denise (Georgetown, Guyana) on 03/20/2007
★★★★★

My remedy for keeping crippling cramps and bloating at bay during my period is a very simple one that only requires ONE DOSE per month. I simply take 1/2 teaspoon of epsom salts in 1 glass of water on the 2nd or the 3rd day BEFORE my period begins and I have very little pain sometimes but NONE AT ALL most months. A dear friend of my mother's told me about this a few months ago and I've used it religiously since. I've even told my friends about it and I find that I don't experience any bloating either. I am sure this will work for you. Usually I mix the salts with a senna leaf solution but this isn't necessary. I would drink at least 3 glasses of plain water during the days before (this makes your flow heavy on the first 2 days but it gets lighter after that). The dose of Epsom salts is too small to hurt your tummy or give you more than one extra trip to the bathroom but it is enough to effectively clean your intestines.

Epsom Salt
Posted by Sanddollar (Billings, Mt) on 11/02/2009 11 posts

I am going to try this and let you know how it goes. I have been reading lots about the amazing benefits of epsom salts that have been discovered lately (they help absorption/regulate insulin, prevent cerebral palsy in premature babies if given to mothers before labor, help severe asthma attacks in the emergency room (given via IV and by nebulizer). It also can help prevent premature births by discouraging uterine contractions - so it makes sense to me that it could help with the pain and cramping associated with menstruation. I have already been using the blackstrap molasses (one TBSP daily) with great results, but cramps are not completely gone.

i either go swimming (with a tampon) or lay in the bath for an hour or so (with nothing) let the water in and push it back out. I did this and period SLOW'D down very fast... I was changing every 15-20 minutes with leaking too...before i got in the bath....so water helps me!!

I also found water helps. Laying in the bath (for 30 to 60 minutes or so depending on your situation) really seems to work well. A doctor I know also suggested showering might help as well. Another way I've found that works for me is rest. I've noticed that it seems to be heavier when I don't get enough sleep or if I'm stressed out. Try relaxing and making sure you get at least eight hours of sleep.
