Dear Earth Clinic Community,

With some measles outbreaks in the news right now I am wondering if anyone has any experience with treating it effectively? I would like to be prepared, just in case, as most of my children and grandchildren have not been vaccinated against it. My husband and I have been, but it was so long ago I have little hope that immunity would continue.

Measles used to just be a disease that was dealt with like all the rest of childhood diseases, but I wonder, since the US population has had so little experience and natural immunity to it, if it could be more serious than it used to be. (Native Americans died of measles out breaks when it was brought to them because their bodies had never had to cope with it before.)

From my reading, it appears that Measles depletes Vitamin A. This makes sense since eye issues are a complication of it.

My initial thoughts on preparedness would be:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin A
  • Coconut Oil (an amazing antiviral! )
  • Melatonin (another amazing antiviral! )

Thoughts?

After Measles run its course all symptoms disappear. There is nothing one can do. Fever is very high and that is frightening. my son had measles when he was 11 months. We did nothing. He recovered with no consequences. The best u can do is homeopathy. Here are seven commonly used homeopathic remedies for measles:

1. Pulsatilla (Puls.) This is often indicated for measles with a mild, weepy rash and thirstlessness. It can help with symptoms such as fever, nasal congestion and a dry cough that worsens at night.

2. Belladonna (Bell.) Beneficial for measles with high fever, red face and throbbing headache. It can also address restlessness and sensitivity to light.

3. Euphrasia (Euphr.) Recommended when there is redness, burning and watering of the eyes, along with a watery nasal discharge during measles..

4. Bryonia alba (Bry.) A useful remedy for measles with a dry, hacking cough, body aches and a desire to lie still. It can also help with excessive thirst.

5. Gelsemium sempervirens (Gels.) Indicated for measles with weakness, fatigue and aching muscles. It can also address drowsiness and a lack of thirst.

6. Sulphur (Sulph.) Often prescribed in later stages of measles when the rash has not fully developed. It can help with itching, restlessness and discomfort.

7. Rhus toxicodendron (Rhus-t.) Recommended when there is intense itching and restlessness during measles. It can also address joint pains and worsened symptoms with initial movement.
