I suffered from dizziness foe several months which my doctor diagnosed as Vertigo. I was rather put out and sceptical when her recommendation was to look up Epley maneuver on "you tube". She said some people only need to do it once for success! Well I did it with the help of my husband twice a day for a week and it did stop altogether. It is straight forward after you have watched a couple of times and costs nothing so must be worth a try.

Epley Manuever for Meniere's Disease

I did the Epley Maneuver and WOW! Only had to do this once. My ears felt very full and I could not lay down or sit up from laying down without the room spinning and it was worse if I laid down on the right side, violent, nauseating spins. Immediately after doing this maneuver I was so nauseous that I vomited but during the maneuver I could feel a water liquid drain (from my ears presumably) into my sinuses. When I rose, the full feeling in my right ear was gone and I have not had another spell since.

I LOVE THIS SITE! Thank you so much for posting this!

there are many different reasons for vertigo..one i had had was a fleck in gryoscope hairs in fluid in the ear.. the fleck keeps the hairs from flowing correctly ,,sending false imputs to the brain..

the cure is/was,, lay on back on bed.. head hanging off but neck supported neutral..then roll head to the right side for 10 seconds.. then back to neutral for 10 sec. .. then roll to left for 10 sec. .. then back to neutral.. it's hard to to do.. brain spinning at warp speed.. probably vomit. but hang in there.. what happens is by doing this clears the fleck .. like magic your good to go..

What Crabby from Townsend is talking about The Epley Maneuver.

It is a great way to deal with a vertigo episode. I had a mild attack last week, did the Epley Maneuver and the room rocking back and forth stopped!

Here's a youtube video of this simple movement. I hope it works for you!

I woke up this morning around 8:30 just fine. Still lying in bed I (carelessly?) turned my head to the right. I instantly felt like I was crazy drunk; but without any alcohol. My head was SPINNING. It was like going from 0 to 600 on the teacup ride. My eyes were shooting back and forth behind my eyelids but there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't make them stop.

I laid there, eyes shut, equally curious and frightened and I didn't dare move. I felt nauseous. After what felt like eternity (but couldn't have been longer than 3-5 minutes), I felt ok again. Not 100%, but the spinning stopped. Then I moved my head back center. Nope. It happened all over again. This time I didn't move for an hour. When I finally got the nerve up, I moved my head at the speed mold grows; eyes shut. It wasn't great but nothing was as bad as before.

I fell back to sleep but woke up startled. Instantly the dizziness was twice what it was before followed by nausea and this time I broke out into an all over sweat with sweat beads and all- the kind of evil sweat you only get before you're about to pass out or die.

I have never experienced this phenomenon before and I had no idea what was happening to me or why. I gave my now terrified 13 year old daughter my phone and mumbled to her to click on earthclinic.com. I told her to look up dizziness and read everything out loud.

Within minutes she came to me with two drops of peppermint essential oil in about 4oz of warm water. She had to give it to me with a straw as I wasn't lifting my head for any reason. Within minutes I felt about 50% less dizzy. She read more. She had my son run to the store for Ginkgo Biloba. I took 2 as soon as he returned.

Peroxide. I filled one ear and listened to the bubbles while trying not to puke in my bed for no less than 15 minutes each. Then I flipped… s l o w l y.

I fell asleep for about an hour. Upon waking I continued to drink as much water as I could and even dissolved some sea salt in hot water and drank that. I also balled my eyes out intermittently because I can't know how to prevent something so horrific if I don't know what causes it.

Colloidal Silver. She got out the spray bottle filled with CS and handed it to me with a wad of toilet paper. I filled each ear and laid there for about 15 minutes on each side. I fell asleep again, positive my brain had committed to atrophy.

My daughter read on. Epley Maneuver.

Now- I was viciously afraid of trying this. I'd literally rather dump lemon juice in a gaping wound. Alas, I gave in and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It didn't work, but it didn't kill me. We did it wrong. There are 5 steps. She had watched a video that only had 4.
About 3 hours later she managed to threaten me into trying it again. She found a different video this time. You have to start AND end sitting up. Reluctantly, I did it.

I sat up and held my breath. When I finally relaxed and opened my eyes, I knew right then there was a difference in my vision. It seemed cleaner. I was still dizzy and I am still dizzy writing this now at 7:43pm, BUT I have been able to get up to go to the bathroom and take a shower that would have otherwise landed me on the bathroom floor with a concussion and maybe even that open wound.

I felt compelled to write this now, before I blissfully forget todays traumatic incident so there could be a testimony out there of what it's like when this happens to someone for the first time. I don't know how long I should expect this mild dizziness but my daughter found on multiple sites that it can last weeks to months. I pray to God that's not the case. I am also thankful to God for this website and for my kiddos who were able to help me through this. My heart goes out to anyone who experiences this alone.

I know the peppermint drops worked for me in slowing the horrific spinning and quelling the nausea.

I don't know about the peroxide, the GB or the colloidal silver, but I would t count them out. Teamwork makes the dream work.

I do know the Epley Maneuver (all 5 moves) worked for me in bringing the ordeal down from a hot 10 to a one.

I know prayer worked and continues to work. And I also know that I can always turn to my earth clinic family for support. Thank you to everyone who writes in for the benefit of the rest of us.

Oh, I know exactly what you went through. It could be something that Epley Maneuver cures or beginning of something more sinister. The trauma of even one episode won't go away for a long time. The same happened to me, only I was spinning, not the room around me, and I was spinning into almost fainting, I was 100% sure I was dying. I don't want to tell you my story which is not over, no need to frighten you. Your story could end with just one episode. Advice: do get head MRI that also covers ear canals. No supplements work for vertigo, however try and see for yourself.

Hello EC, Selectatarian of MD and Sam of Miami,

Doctor Eric Berg teaches about vertigo in some of his YouTube videos. He say it can be caused by mucus in the sinuses, or possibly calcium deposits in the ear. He believes that vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 can help to remedy the situation. In the below YouTubes he suggests using 50,000 IU Vitamin D3 and 500mg of K2 together one day a week.

In an earlier video, his advice was 10,000 IU vitamin D3 with 100mg daily. However he says he learned that the above once a week method worked better.

Please look at the YouTubes below if you want to hear what he says about vertigo.

Have you seen this Dr.Berg video

All throughout my childhood I had bouts of vertigo. Fluid would get into my ears, cross the ear drum and get stuck around the eustation tube. Recently, I had a severe bout that lasted almost a month. Decongestants and Meclizine would help but it would just come right back.

I spoke with a good friend who is extremely knowledgable about herbs and she said she has had a similar problem. She uses a mix of Fenugreek and Thyme. She said its also good to use Pcynogenol as well. I have only been using the Fenugreek and Thyme mix but I have noticed a huge improvement. The mix of herbs is also good for general sinus clearing. Drink lots of water though because this will pull the fluid out of your body. Hope this helps!

Fluorescent Lighting Link, Supplements Which Help

Vertigo caused by energy saving and fluorescent lighting: I have suffered from vertigo for the last year. I have found out that my vertigo is triggered by fluorescent or energy savings bulbs. I've read that the use of this lighting is questioned in Europe because it causes many health problems. Avoidance of these types of lights and supplementing with calcium (1000 mg), (500 mg) magnesium, and B 100 complex really has helped me. I have also switched to full spectrum lighting (great light!). I am now researching the possibility that I need to add zinc to my diet. Hope this helps somebody. I know how debilitating vertigo is.

The only treatment for my vertigo that actually helped was the Foster half somersault maneuver. Google it.....brought such a relief when prescription medicine and chiropractic treatment did not.

I read somewhere on internet that vertigo could be because of some bacteria or infection in your ear. So u can treat it like this, take two garlic cloves, smash it, then take 2, 3 tblsp of mustard oil, heat it and roast the garlic in it. Remove it from heat. Let it get cool. Then put 2/3 drops in your affected ear at night. I did it 4 two nights and I felt pretty good. Well my vertigo is still there but not that annoying. Hopefully it will get cured if I do it continuously.

You should NOT put any type of oil down in the ear canal.

sorry, but you are very wrong on this one. Lots of people use garlic oil and hydrogen peroxide in their ears. Garlic kills the germs in a ear infection

My husband has had vertigo for a few years. He had a series a few weeks ago, and I suggested Ginger tea. Which helped tremendously.

The test was, that he had started to dilute the tea with more water. Bam! he had a vertigo attack!

Back on full strength ginger tea, he drinks it as iced tea. He drinks this instead of his usual coffee.

Hope this helps others.

I had vertigo for 4 winters in a row (this was about 10 years ago). It got so bad I had to sit up with my back to the wall to sleep. One night on a hunch, I took 6 capsules of regular ginger from the health store. Within 30 minutes the vertigo was gone! I continued taking at least 3 capsules every night since and have never had any vertigo again...ginger has a similar effect to cayenne, just stronger.

I also stopped drinking diet cokes. I used to drink a large diet coke from every night with a hamburger. Aspartame (see artificial sweeteners section on this site) has been observed by many to cause vertigo.

Vertigo is just a symptom of whatever underlying cause you're dealing with.

Vertigo can be related to spinal injuries/trauma, inner ear infection/disorder, cranial issues, etc. One great way to treat vertigo is by making a ginger root tea. Ginger helps with both nausea and dizziness. I currently am dealing w/ an inner ear disorder and experience the type of vertigo/dizziness that makes me feel like I'm moving and not the room around me. To make the tea:

- Cut about an 1 inch of raw ginger root
- Slightly smash the root w/ a hard container (like a glass bottle), this helps to leech out the active ingredients
- Place 1 cup of water into a small pot (add ginger root to water)
- Bring to boil - after water boils, let simmer on low heat for about 5-8 mins.
- After the 5-8 mins, let it sit for 2-5 mins and then strain and drink.
- Add honey or agave for taste.

Hope this helps....and be strong becuz I know exactly how the vertigo can make u feel.

About 1984 I woke up and got out of bed. When my feet hit the floor, my body dropped like a rock. I slowly got up and the room was spinning. It was the most strange experience I've ever had. It was like I was standing still and the world was moving. I found out it was Vertigo. I went to the doctor and he said "I don't know what to do about it...let me know if you figure it out." The Vertigo lasted for several days and slowly got better.

Every winter I would get Vertigo and over several days or weeks it would slowly get better and then go away.

I moved to Las Vegas in 1991. I was fine for a couple of years. But, then one winter, it hit me hard. It was so bad I couldn't lay down to sleep. I had to sit up and set my body up against the corner of the room. I slept horribly for days. This happened each winter for a few more years.

One night in 1996 when the vertigo was so bad that I couldn't even sleep sitting up, I was thinking about my experiences with vertigo and realized that when I got vertigo, my stomach also seemed upset. I remembered that Ginger Root was used by travelers to settle their stomachs after getting stomach upset from the local food or drink. I wondered if stomach upset might be causing the Vertigo. (Please remember that my condition always took several days or weeks to get better.) I got up and went to the kitchen and took 6 capsules of health food store Ginger Root. Within 30 minutes my stomach seemed to feel more settled. I decided to try going back to bed.

Normally when I have the Vertigo, if I'm laying down and turn my head right or left, the room starts spinning. This time...NO Vertigo! I turned my head left to right and even did is faster than normal, but no Vertigo. I slept well the whole night
and woke up with no Vertigo.

I started taking 6 capsules of Ginger Root every night after that. After a few weeks I reduced the dosage to 3 capsules before bed. This is now 2009 and I still take 3 capsules Ginger Root every night and haven't had Vertigo since 1996.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I was only 27 when I got vertigo from a virus and have had on and off trouble since 2010. So discouraging when you are trying to raise kids and make a living. I have often thought my vertigo seems to worsen with indigestion. You are the first I have heard of that relates. I look forward to trying this.

I had bppv and it was that way for 4 days. The ent doctor told me to do exercise at home, the epley maneuver. I did it for three days twice, that was enough for me. My hearing test was very good; he also did a test in the office. I was screaming for life, scary is not the word. Well when I was on my 4th day of these exercises, I said God help me, so he did. I put hydrogen peroxide in my right ear cause he said that was the one that made me dizzy and off balance, praise God, oh lord it went away, solely the truth, Amen. Hopefully I helped someone, thanks Francis
