Hey Ted, I started having scalp problems when I was 15 years old. I had nasty pustules on my head, thinning hair along with a itchy and flaky beard when I hit 18 years old. The doctors didnt help much. Seems like pills are their answers to everything. Anyways, I am 26 now and I read your post several months back. I tried the ACV & H202 with the tea tree oil and lavendar and my hair hasn't looked this good since it started falling out. My scalp is fine and I see hair growning on my scalp in places that use to be really thin. Now it seems like it has been at a stand still and sometimes it looks just a tad bit worst. I am thinking it must be something that I am eating, something extra that I need to take or both. Do you have any suggestions for me? My scalp looks 60 percent better and I need something to help it get over the hump. By the way, sometimes the skin on the side of my nose gets dry and cracky. That's when I notice my hair getting thin again. Maybe the two are linked. Please help! Thanks!

I used the 20 mule team borax last night as a shampoo ... It is the best my head has felt in 32 years. And now I know trichotillomania is not a condition of bad nerves, I believe this is either a mite under the skin or a fungus. And dr.s wont help .they don't want to admit there is no cure. They just keep you coming back and shoving more money in their pockets.I have 5 sores on my head,4 of them have been ther for 2 or more years 1 of them for about 1 year their always sore or half heald and sore underneath. After using the borax last night. 3 are healed and no soreness under neith, and 2 are very slightly sore this morning. My scalp feals like scalp and my hair feels like normal hair ...... Absolutly amazing. If it is a mite.. I'm getting rid of all the pillows. I just recently moved here and and bought a water bed, so that is new and no mites in the mattress. I will continue this treatment on mon .wed and fri. For a month and then go to the acv and peroxide if needed.i have also used tea tree shampoo for about 10 years it has helped but not cured.. I did use tea tree oil straight about 6 weeks ago 1 time maybe that did help some. But nothing has worked like the 20 mule team borax and my hair is soft and shining and manageable today first time in 32 years, amazing.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

I had recurring problems with scalp fungus. It wasn't too bad in summer, when I was out in the sun and swimming in salt water, but come late fall and winter I would get large pieces of scalp flaking off and my hair would be greasy. My hair was thinning out and my scalp was itchy.

I tried GSE (grapefruit seed extract) by putting a few drops in my shampoo. I mixed them together in the palm of my hand each time I shampooed, which was every other day.I left the lather in for two minutes or so. The results were immediate, now I just have a slight touch of dandruff, no itch and my hair seems to be getting a little thicker. My hair and scalp definitely look better as well.

I have had chronic scalp infections for around 25 years. My symptoms are very painful green puss filled pimples when it gets really bad, and primarily in the back part of my scalp. I didn't do anything for it when I was a teen, because my parents wouldn't pay for any medical treatments for it. As an adult I have regularly gone to the doctor for this problem and they always prescribe anti-biotics and some anti fungle cream. The anti-biotics worked for only a short time before I would get the condition back. The anti fungal cream didn't seem to do anything but make me feel more uncomfortable. I took antibiotics around three months ago and was doing great until now. The infection came back with a vengence. My priority this morning was to try Ted's approach and shop for the supplies: ACV, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Epsom Salt, costing me just a few bucks. The directions for mixing Ted does give, as 1 part ACV, 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide, and 10 parts water. I made a solution of 1/2 cup Epsom salt and 1 quart water to clean and soften my scalp first. I also bought a turkey baster to apply the soltion to my scalp while in the tub, with the back of my head dipped in a plastic bag to hold the solution on my head. I kept the salt solution on as long as I could, then rinsed it off. Then I did the same with the ACV, Hydrogen Peroxide solution, but only for a couple minutes. It did not hurt or feel bad puting it on. Actually it was soothing. I must say that after this first try, my scalp really felt better, and most of the pain went away and became more tolerable, as the swelling went down. I did have my wife apply triple antibiotic ointment on the sores after I dried my hair. I also would like to say I did find a natural shampoo and conditioner (under ten bucks each)that includes both tea tree and lavender oil in it. The brand name is Desert Essence. It was located in the health food section of a regular grocery store. I will try using these to see if they do the trick. So far after the first try I feel better. Wish me luck. I hope this will prove to work as well as save money and trips to the Doctor.

WARNING!

Dear Earth Clinic, I just wanted to let you know that I think on Ted's Posts it should say in bold at the beginning, or where it can't be missed to read the recipes carefully. I had a small bald spot on my head, found this website, and read some things Ted wrote. I read something about hydrogen peroxide and acv for scalp problems and hair loss. It did not say how much to use in the blurb I read. I thought I would try it. Well I just made a solution up and put it on my head. Left it on overnight. Well, Now I am loosing all my hair!!! So this was not a remedy in the little problem I had, instead, it is causing all my hair to fall out. I would like to spare future readers from this, so please put a warning, and make sure people read Ted's postings very carefully, and if they do not see a recipe, have them contact Ted before just making one up themselves. I know most people would be more careful, but there are us haphazard people out here you know. Thank you.

Lisa: Happy to hear of the news. A longer term remedy of acv baking soda alkalizing to raise the body's immune system, some weekly magnesium (magnesium citrate) and zinc (zinc gluconate) supplements and perhaps if possible a molybdenum (sodium molybdate) should prevent the condition from coming back again.

I'm late writing my feedback, but it may benefit someone especially for African American children.

On June 3, 2006, after my son's haircut, I noticed my son had a small, round, white patch in the middle of his scalp. Curious, I took note of this on my calendar to keep a close eye on it.

As the weeks go by, the patch had spread to at least 3 or 4 more patches with hair loss. Not completely bald patches. I immediately confirmed this HAD to be ringworm in the scalp.

How could this happen when I keep the kids scalp and body clean with bathings? My kids like to play in the dirt outside and very well could have transferred hand to scalp during play. I don't know for sure...just a guess. By June 30th, I began Ted's recommedation of ACV (with the Mother) and Hydrogen Peroxide Shampoo along with the Tea Tree Oil and Lavender mixture.

I followed his recipe exactly. I would give my son (3years old) his bath and "shampoo" or saturate his hair with the ACV & Peroxide. Let it sit on his hair and scalp while I bathe him. After rinsing the soap off his body, I would rinse out the ACV & Peroxide from his hair.

My mixture: 4 drops of Tea Tree Oil, 1 drop of Lavender Oil diluted in 1 tablespoon of Sweet Almond Oil. I used the Sweet Almond Oil because it absorbs and carries the essential oils well.

After drying him off, I immediately applied the Tea Tree Oil and Lavender mixture to his ENTIRE scalp (he had a low hair cut...much easier). I did make sure his hair and scalp was coated. I applied a Doo Rag (a scarf with 2 tails) and wrapped his head up. The tails help secure the base of the Doo Rag on his head. He wore the Doo Rag and Oil Mixture over night. I did not wash it out in the morning nor did I reapply the oil mixture during the day.

I applied this oil mixture every night at bath time for 6 weeks. However, I did not apply the ACV & Hydrogen Peroxide shampoo everyday. For some reason, after the second day, my son would literally scream "murder" at the sight of the ACV & Peroxide. I would calmly refer to it as water but he did not want that "water" near him. I can't confirm if it burned his scalp or not. So, I have no clue as to if it burns. Oh, and I made sure not to get it in his eyes. Therefore, I shampooed with regular shampoo and followed with the oil mixture.

At the end of the 6 weeks, his hair had grown back in with no more white patches or hair loss. It is has been several months now and everything is still clear.

BTW, my son knew something wasn't right because the other children did not have to wear the Doo Rag. Try to be comforting and reassuring during this difficult time with small children. The Doo Rag sort of acts as a protective measure from spreading (to the family) so you don't want the child to take it off due to embarrassment or shame. The child can wear it during the day if he/she is a stay at home child like mine. Our family made him feel comfortable about the Doo Rag. We took pictures of him with his "shades" on and just had fun his first night. This way, you don't have to fight or have an unhappy child every night for 6 weeks. BTW, I saw an oil recipe on a different website that is identical to Ted's except the lady recommed using the oil mixture 3x's a day. For those who work during the day or if the child is in school, this may not seem ideal although I believe it would work. Nevertheless, Ted's overnight treatment was less work and with proven results.

I hope this helps someone.

I discovered this sit because i had a scalp infection and wanted to find out how i could cure it. i started to take the acv and baking soda internally that ted suggests. i felt really good and it seemed to help a lot. i put some acv on my head as well and i don't know if i worked. i also tried the peroxide on my head but i hasn't really done much either.i had read that eucalyptus oil is really good, so i realized that vic's vapor rub has eucalyptus oil in it so i put some on my head and it had the greatest effect than anything i tried.i can say that i went to the nutritional store to buy the tea tree oil that ted suggested, but unfortunately for me i listened to the homeopathic doctor there and didn't buy it. instead i bought the pills he suggested and the ointment that contained alison, i guess it's an extract from garlic, which is also suppose to clean your blood. that didn't seem to help at all so i started rubbing on the vic's again. i am going to buy the tea tea tree oil and maybe eucalyptus oil. i also have to mention, that i had blood work done there at the health food store and my blood was really clean. he said that he never gets to see such healthy blood and was very impressed! i had been taking the acv and baking soda for at least a month though, so i guess it really worked. i use to have a little bite of lower back pain and that even went away. i want to give a special thanks to tedd, your a gentle man and a scholar. well thanks to everyone as well, who have taken the time to try to help others by contributing to this site. god bless all of you and your families!

p.s. i forgot to note that the infection seemed to be fungus and discovered it because my hair was falling out. i decided to just go ahead and shave my head and discovered i had the read fungus/ringworm on different parts of my head .the acv and vic's vapor rub really helped and i started to regrow my hair and it's not falling out anymore. it even seems to be growing thicker on the area's that were growing thin. thanks!

Thank You so much. My 4 year old daughter (AA) developed folliculitus and all of the doctors treatments were worthless. She started loosing hair on the top of her head and pustules were all over. She also complained of her scalp hurting. I did a google search and found this site. Even after the first ACV & H202 tx I noticed improvement. I followed up with Tea Tree and Lav. oils nightly and once a week for two weeks I repeated the ACV & H202. She has no more pustules, they have all dried out. Plus she has no more pain. Her scalp looks 95% better. I am just waiting for a small patch of crust to fall off and a small patch of hair to grow back. I will continue the TT and Lav for a couple more weeks to make sure the infection completely gone. Thank god I found this site and that she has thick hair to hide the small patch.

Apple Cider Vinegar

When my brother tried to commit suicide in Feb. 2006, my scalp suddenly became extremely sore & huge pieces of it began to slough off. This wasn't like little bits of dandruff here & there. The pieces were sizeable square inches of skin. Because the pieces were so large, they wouldn't fall off because several hundred hairs were still threaded through them. The pieces looked like off-white tissue paper hovering about 1/2 inch above my scalp. It was a very alarming sight (though not as alarming as the condition of my brother). I first tried Scalpicin from the hospital pharmacy, but that only provided a very brief, cooling sensation. I looked on the internet & read about apple cider vinegar. The recommendation for scalp problems was to dilute the acv with water. I was in a state of extreme anxiety due to long hours in the ICU, & just wanted very fast relief. So I poured several cap-fulls of acv on my scalp & massaged it in a bit. The only thing I noticed was the vinegary smell & a very slight tingling sensation. I sat for an hour or so, & then rinsed my hair & scalp. It's hard to believe, but after that one treatment, the horrible huge pieces of skin stopped rising up from my scalp immediately. I repeated the same treatment one week later, just as a preventative measure. The problem never returned, despite several months of equally stressful hospital experiences.

Coconut Oil

Hi, I haven't seen a remedy for smelly scalp, I used to have a foul smelling scalp, even though I showered everyday, I tried all kinds of shampoo, but the one thing that cured me of this embarrassing condition was applying virgin coconut oil to my scalp for an hour. I think it disappeared after two applications.

I hope this helps others who suffer from this condition.

ACV + Epsom Salt

Epsom salts will pull out infection from wounds in scalp infections. I mixed it about 1/2 cup of epsom salt to 1 quart of hot water.

Submerge infected area in solution 4 times a day. If unable to submerge area, just use washcloth to dip in solution and apply over infected are (hot compress method) 4 times a day. I have seen this cure infection after red streak was running up arm (indicative of blood poisoning). No antibiotics were needed. I have many times bathed in 1-2 cups epsom salts in hot bath when muscles or nerves said "help".You really feel relaxed.

I have also used a saturated solution of Apple Cider Vinegar and epsom salts to clear up deep infected ulcers in scalp; No antibiotics were needed. Swab ulcers.

Borax

I learned about borax on curezone for itchy painful scalp and decided to try it. Someone else on this site has mentioned how nice her hair is as a result of using the borax. I have NEVER used a hair product- a shampoo or a conditioner that has equalled the lustruous results I have achieved with borax. My hair was dry and straw like now it feels soft and silky and very manageable. The rats nest is gone! I can now comb and brush my hair again without fear of tearing my hair out. If for no other reason, I think everyone should abondon their shampoo and start using borax to wash the hair. As for my scalp? I was pretty desperate the day I tried the borax. My scalp was very sore, there was an inflamed (swollen) ridge on my part and there were tiny bumps like zits forming. I have a theory that hair pullers are reacting to whatever it is that causes these symptoms I experience. I started messing with my hair when I started experiencing all of the above. anyway. after using the borax, pain and itching subsided. bumps scabbed over that same day. soooo gentle. Have you noticed that if you get it in your eyes, it does not burn? I remember when I was a kid, I had some sort of eye infection so I went to the doc and he said I had pink eye and prescribed boric acid ointment. so of course it would be gentle to the eye. I am anxious to try it internally for some of the other issues I have read here on the site.(arthritis, tmj, fibromyalgia).

Borax

What a wonderful site! I find so much honest mindblowing information on this site. I already know quite a bit about herbs and vitamins but I am really being educated to some incredible healing therapies here. I have fallen in love with borax. I have had an itchy scalp for 10 years. When I say that it sounds pretty benign, but it has dominated my existence, alternating between itching, inflammation, tenderness, prickliness, numbness and downright pain. I noticed that it had a hormonal connection, but because my head "talked to me" with all of the above symptoms, I touched and tugged on individual hairs to calm my head. Of course I knew it wasn't working and it only made matters worse, but there was a "reaction".

I have purchased rogaine, shampoos, conditioners, pills, anti itch sprays, etc and the list goes on. I happened on a diatribe on curezone, and they mentioned borax and also earthclinic. so I went to this site and found a ton of amazing information. Of course the light bulb goes off. The next morning I mixed some borax in water and poured it on my scalp. Small amounts of tingling pain. My hair felt silky but stronger and thicker. My hair looked fantastic, but the other noticeable thing was that my scalp didn't itch. Later on in the day, there were tiny scabs where the small bumps would show up.(I know I didn't mention that earlier, but neither did I mention that my hair didn't feel like it was firmly connected into my scalp either) I knew that I had found a solution to what has been driving me crazy.

I really wonder if the people who pull out their hair are reacting to some of the same conditions that I have been experiencing for so long. I no longer feel like I need to "play" with my hair. when I say play with it, I actually mean that I was pulling a lot of it out. I was not trying to pull it out, but I felt that if I just ran my nail down the length of it that I would somehow "fix the individual hairs, and sometimes they would come out, because as I said they were not firmly rooted into my scalp. I take away the symptoms with the borax and I no longer need to touch the hair. I think they call it tricholotomia or something like that.

I have a question and I don't know if anyone has an answer, but my brother in law has a bone chip on his ankle. He has had surgery once to "fix" it but it didn't work, the pain is back, and he is once again, walking with a cane. I don't know how big this bone chip is, but is there anyway to either dissolve the bone chip, or to get the bone chip to attach to his ankle?

anyway, I am glad this site is out here in cyberspace where people can get real and helpful information and not have to pay 150.00 for either a non answer from a doctor ( I brought my scalp problem up 3 times with 2 different doctors and they would look at my scalp and offer zero advice or help) or an answer which doesn't do crap or hurts you. I don't know about you but when I pay a doctor 150.00 and they either don't answer my question or whatever they do doesn't work, I think I should get my money back. Speaking of doctors, I went to one once because I was sick two days before I was going on a long vacation. I diagnosed myself and knew that I had rocky mountain fever. My father in law had gone hunting and his wife cooked some of the meat that he brought back. They both had come down with it. I had heard my mother in law say how hard it was to diagnose. I had all the symptoms but I tend to get really gassy and nausous. I DID not want to be sick on christmas vacation around family.

I went to dr. before I left, explained what I had, symptoms, and why. He said absolutely nothing to me, gave me some anti nausea meds and sent me on my way. They did nothing. I got some charcoal pills before I left because the dr. hadn't helped at all. I spent 10 days in bend ore. sick as a dog, Toward the end I felt like my insides were starting to dissintegrate. I separated myself from everyone because of the terrible gas. I finally started to have diahhrea just before we left (I have always been constipated) It took us two days driving home in the snow. I went to a check medical as soon as I got home (different doctor) I told the doctor, I know I have rocky mountain fever, just give me the meds, you can run the tests but I can not live with this another day. He gave me the drugs. Two days later, they called to say indeed I had rocky mountain fever. I was so pissed at the other doctor for ruining my vacation. Of course this was about 17 years ago before wonderful access to web information. But that doctor was so arrogant he could not stand having a patient telling him what was wrong. Thank god for the second doctor because I was ready to kill myself by then rather than feel like my insides were literally pulling away from their internal walls, feeling constantly nauseated, but not being able to throw up. Sorry, I am still pretty angry about it and I have never called or said anything directly to that doctor. I simply never went to his office again. sincerely. me
