Using charcoal to brush your teeth common practice in Pacific Islands and probably a few other places ... it really does whiten the teeth.

I tried brushing with activated charcoal in water. I can't believe how clean the teeth feel, and the plaque is really impacted. Does anyone have any hard data on bad effects for enamel, using this?

I got my charcoal from a pet shop that sells fish tank supplies. The charcoal seems to be super active. I have been using it to filter drinking water. Our tap water is just poisonous and disgusting. I taped a cloth around the spout of a large funnel and filled the spout with the charcoal and poured the water through. You can't buy a better water filter.

To whiten my teeth, I just dip my toothbrush into a container of activated charcoal powder. I brush my teeth, rinse then brush with water to get rid of the black left from the charcoal. I don't do it every day because I don't want the charcoal to reduce the tooth enamel.
