Nodules
Posted by Jenny (Morehead City, Nc, Usa) on 10/14/2010

After the birth of my son almost 5 yrs ago, my birth control choice was Mirena I.U.D.. Up until the day that it was implanted, I was steadily losing the baby weight, that first day-I stopped losing and began gaining, slowly. I didn't attribute this to the choice but, to the fact of relocating, taking in a foster child in addition to 2- 8 yr olds and a newborn, life... I had it in for three yrs before tieing my tubes and that's when my OB/GYN found the nodules and sent me for the ultrasound. My question is: Is there a home remedy that could help reduce the size of the nodules and help alleviate the obvious hypothyroidism the birth control caused?

Thanks, Cat, for your update. Sorry to hear about your eczema! I've been taking 1 teaspoon of coconut oil daily (will slowly work up to 1 to 2 tablespoons daily) and I hope I will do as well as you have. Good luck on your mission. Isn't Earth Clinic grand?! I've learned so much. Cheers.

Hi Bessie! Well, the experiment works! 10 lbs every 2 weeks! HOWEVER, I now know I'm allergic to this nut as well. Had to make a choice between extreme eczema or weight loss. Chose my skin which is getting better now that I've stopped the VCO. Also noticed my blood pressure slipping higher which ceased when I stopped imbibing VCO. Sigh! What next? mmmm.. I'm working on it..

Your doctor should know but there are two tests for thyroid antibodies: anti-TPO and TgAb. The first antibody, anti-TPO, attacks an enzyme normally found in your thyroid gland, called the Thyroid Peroxidase, which is important in the production of thyroid hormones. The second antibody, TgAb, attacks the key protein in the thyroid gland, the thyroglobulin, which is essential in the production of the T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. It is common for a doctor to only do ONE test, and you need BOTH tests, since you can be normal in one and high in another. There are a lot of good websites about thyroid disorders.

Hello Y'all, Wow Tom, you are an "intellectual quarterback" in this field, and I'm in the audience thinking, Wow man... Cool. Thank You. My case may be one example of these topics you have posted. For instance, my TSH was never higher than 4. 5, but would dip to. 3 with no medication. My free T3 would remain low or subnormal. I had to persuade the Internist and Endocrinologist to test the T3. It was determined along with other tests, ( ACTH, cortisol, DHEA, etc. ), that I had low functioning pituitary and adrenals. Hormones are similar to electrolytes in that they shift and change quickly, and are difficult to measure. Testing sensitivity needs improvement. More attention is needed for discussion of symptoms. I am going to bring up another instance that applies to this need. I am the middle child of three. Tragically, my elder brother, (age 13), and my younger sister, (age 41), experienced sudden death. Autopsy report: no known etiology (cause), ventricular fibrillation in both cases. We all had similar but varying degrees of symptoms, my brother's being the most aggressive, mine second, my sister's, the mildest. Before my brother's death, (1968), he had many episodes of fainting, whereby he had to be resuscitated by EMTs for survival. V. Fib. Was detected in blood tests. I would faint, wake up, walk away. My sister did not faint. We all had anxiety and palpitations, among other shared symptoms. I don't at all blame the medical community for not determining our conditions, difficult to test, difficult to analyze symptoms. But, I do see a strong need for improvement in the aforementioned, and, respect for the patient. My case was "written off" by some doctors and practitioners; and it was strongly implied that my survival was a case of random chance. That may be, but, I will not rely on random chance to save me. The only difference I can determine in my case of survival here, is that I have practiced good nutrition as best I could, from a very young age. That's the bright news of this. Thank You, Connie

Shiloh from Escondido,

First, the medication your husband is prescribed is actually very safe and there are no side effects. He should ask his doctor for antibody testing and separate T3/T4 tests also, not just TSH, which may offer more insight into what is causing his disorder. Also, he may want to have thyroid function (tests for iodine uptake) or a scan of the thyroid. There are a number of good books about thyroid issues--check your library--many of them address alternative therapies. I am much smaller than your husband and I was on 100 mcg per day until I was able to discontinue (about 2 years). Now, for the iodine. First, you need "Lugol's" or Iodoral tablets (I got mine on Amazon). The tablets are 12. 5 mg each. I started with 50 mg (divided between am and pm) and now I take 25 mg (one tablet am and pm). Second, eliminate soy--read labels because it is in everything! Soybean oil, soy protein, etc. Third, avoid broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage--for now. He will be able to work these back into his diet later. Finally, fluoride detox! This is most important. The protocol is discussed more thoroughly in other posts on this site but basically, 1/4 tsp of borax (20 Mule Team from the laundry section of the store) in 1 liter of non-fluoridated water. Drink and cook with only non-fluoridated water. Avoid chlorine as much as possible also--this includes swimming pools and hot tubs. There are shower filters available if your water is highly fluoridated. My TSH was borderline high (2. 5) but I had antibodies. The Rx eliminated the antibodies and got my TSH to 1. 0 and I have maintained that number using the above remedy. I went off the medication with the approval and supervision of my doctor and have continued to monitor my thyroid levels to make sure everything is still working properly. Good luck to you!

Hi to everyone at Earth Clinic, I found this web site about four months ago and I love it. I am in need of some opinions. My husband was told that his thyroid wasn't working and the Dr. put him on Levothyroxine, 50 mcg. He went back for a second check and his thyroid was still a 5.24. So the Dr. wanted to up the medicine to 75.

At this time I asked my husband to try the iodine instead. I bought some at the health food store. The label said "Ionic Minerals" liquid concentrate. My husand is 58 yrs, 6'1'and 270lbs. I put him on 3 drops twice a day. Plus four kelp tabs, and 2 vit. C. Well after a month he went back for his third check and his blood level went from the 5.24 to 8.49- needless to say I think I screwed up. The Dr. insists on him coming in to see him because of the dramatic spike, I guesss I will go with him, get a butt chewing and then find out where I went wrong. Does any one have any ideas for me? I do believe I am on the right track, either his thyroid was really out of whack so that the iodine wouldn't have helped, or that 30 days was not long enough for the iodine to work, or I wasn't giving him enough for his size. At any rate some of your ideas would be helpful before I have to face the fiddler.

Hello Earth Clinic, what a wonderful, informitive site this is. I love it. I found this website about 5 months ago and have been on reading everyday. This is the first time I have done a post, and I am in much need of some help.

My husband was told by our Dr. That his thyroid was not working (hypothyroid). I don't know the blood level, but the Dr. Put him on 4.05 (50 mcg) of Levodthyroid. He went back for a second test in June and it showed no improvement, his blood count was still at 5.24, so the medicine was increased to 75. At this time I asked him to try the iodine instead. My husband is 58 yrs, 6'1, and weighs 270 lbs. I bought some Iodine at the health food store, and it was recommended by the employee she said she used it and it was great. The bottle said "Ionic Minerals" liquid concentrate, it said use two or more drops a day. I had my husband take 3 drops 2 times a day. He also took four kelp tabs and two vit. C.

According to this site, and many others just using a Search, that much-ballyhooed Thyroid Panel test in use only since the 1970's is less than useless in a large number of cases.

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

The "normal" parameters were set up using only 200 peoples' test results! http://stopthethyroidmadness.com/tsh-why-its-useless/

WHAT IS PATIENT EXPERIENCE WITH THE TSH LAB? It's lousy. First, there is a huge body of hypothyroid patients who have a so-called "normal" TSH lab... Along with classic or raging hypothyroid symptoms. And because doctors have become lab-obsessed rather than giving credence to clinical presentation, patients remain undiagnosed for years before the number rises high enough to reveal the condition. Site has a very good overall step route for determining where in the H-P-T or H-P-A hormone axis one's problems lie.

One's problem may not be in the thyroid at all, nor its hormones, but in for instance the adrenals, suffering from long-term stress leading to failure.

Hello, See the doctor and make him conduct a tsh test. It's a simple blood test to measure health of your thyroid. Don't be afraid. I think I have the same problem, Uninsured and am going to try sea salt to help. I still will see the doctor. Thyroid can be back to normal. It's just our society that spoils us with fast living and hardly eating right. Rest well, eat the five food groups and exercise. You will recover. God bless.

In regards to the Hashimoto's, try getting tested for gluten sensitivity. Ask your doctor, or you can order a stool test from EnteroLab, which is supposedly more accurate than a blood test.

The same is true of broccoli. The excessive consumption of raw broccoli undermines thyroid functioning. It is safer to eat less raw broccoli (as found in smoothies) and more cooked, as cooking the broccoli neutralizes most of the leeching of iodine component. Even though broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C and fiber, and in its raw state, it's also a rich source of compounds known as glucosinolates which are broken down in the body to form sulforaphane -- moderation is key. Sulforaphane has been demonstrated in numerous studies to have potent anti-cancer properties, the reason why broccoli is touted as one of the best vegetables for cancer prevention. But don't over do it. This information is also available on the Web.

Nothing unbearable but a bit creepy feeling at times. I am wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing this due to the VCO and if there is a solution for it other than stopping the VCO? I love the energy it gives me, and don't want to quit! Thanks~Carly

90% of hypothyroidism is caused by hashimoto's... It's the #1 cause of hypothyroidism in the USA. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease so it's absolutely necessary to address what's causing autoimmune responses. Some possibilities include dysbiosis, dysglycemia, food sensitivities etc. Check out the hashimoto's groups on facebook and you'll get alot of info on this.

If you're on thyroid meds and start taking coconut oil regularly and experience heart palps, it could be because the coconut oil is working and you're actually able to reduce your thyroid meds. Myself and others I know were able to go off our thyroid meds completely after going gluten free and addressing other underlying conditions like dysbiosis and dysglycemia.

THE VCO EXPERIMENT. I fluctuate at 176-180lbs because I do have a thyroid/metabolism problem. I try to always eat a healthy low carb diet as it combats my allergies and at least keeps my weight stable. BUT, I think I may have solved my thyroid and weight problem by ingesting coconut oil and water ONLY for breakfast and lunch and as a nighttime snack as needed.

Here is what I do and it works: Breakfast and Lunch consists of 1-2 tablespoons of VCO with water. Dinner consists of satiety level meat, salad, raw berries, sauteed veggies, and any vitamins I feel I need. Sometimes when eating out, I will include limited rice, white or sweet potato, or whole corn. I try never to eat wheat, bread, milk, SOY, sugar or polyunsaturated oils.

THE EXPERIMENT started: A more than hectic, rushed week began with no time to eat breakfast or lunch; so I ingested 1-2 tablespoons of VCO and drank water for these meals. Well, lo and behold, I did not miss the meals and found that I had tremendous energy, clarity, eyesight and was hungry-less while I only partook of the oil. By dinner time, I began to feel hungry and ate the low-carb meal described above. Within two days, my OH-SO-TIGHT-AROUND-THE-WAIST jeans were not so tight; I wasn't nearly as bloated in the mornings. So I continued this for the rest of the week, finally getting on the scale for my usual Friday weighin, thinking I might see a huge weight gain from all that oil. I had lost 6 pounds in 5 days!

The following days, I purposely went back to my usual low car regime, eating a normal breakfast, lunch, and dinner cooked with VCO or Palm oil and quickly gained the pounds back. I am now 2 days into trying THE EXPERIMENT again and have already lost 2 pounds. I still don't get hungry or feel fatigued, quite the opposite, again. Now, I am aware that coconut oil does not give all the nutrients the body needs so I try to make dinner as nutrient dense as possible, including a multivitamin. I am going to continue THE EXPERIMENT of 2 meals VCO and 1 off and will post in a month (8-18-10) on my progress or lack thereof. By the way, my thyroid loves this as well only experiencing pain when I eat soy out at restaurants. When the throat pain begins, I put a drop of lugol's iodine with a drop of coconut oil on my neck and the pain subsides within 5-10 minutes. SOY is SUCH a bugger!

Hi Debbie,

I'm taking the supplements that Sam Launch suggested, right above my first post: one each of CoQ-10 (100mg), Selenium (200mcg), and L-Lysine (500mg).

I started off doing one pill each, once a day and half of my medication. The first 48 hours that worked very well, but when I tried to come completely off of my meds the symptoms began to show up again.

So, I took a chance at coming completely off of my meds by taking one pill each of the supplements in the morning and then once again at night, works like a charm.

My thyroid is 4 times faster than it should be, so I show results very quickly. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

Good luck

Oh my goodness, I can't even begin to tell you how much better I'm feeling!!! I've been on the suppliments now for exactly 8 weeks and it has made all the difference in my world.

I did double my dosage - same amounts, but one dose in the morning and one at night and I've been off my medication for 7 of the 8 weeks. The first thing I noticed was NO MORE heart palpitations or sweats. My thyroid shrunk almost immediately - I'd say within 24 to 48 hours, my breating and heartrate also slowed. My overall dispositioned improved considerably. I'm soooooooooo much happier these days and other "stuff" has started working better too ; )

I'll be going to the doctor to get my levels checked really soon, but I'm pretty sure that these suppliments are working 100 times better than my medication ever did. Even if I have to take this for the rest of my life, I'd rather take something natural than something perscribed.

And last but not least, all 3 suppliments combined cost around $20 for what ends up being a 2 month supply. Folks, you can't beat that with stick. . .

If you have HYPER thyroidism [Graves Disease], please don't hesitate to try this, you'll really be glad you did.

Actually, I read somewhere on the net that almonds can be a thyroid blocker, as in almond milk. Probably a few almonds are fine but drinking the milk all the time can be problematic. We quit drinking almond milk and went back to lactose free milk. I felt better, along with eating less soy and getting iodine supplements in a woman's multivitimin. Over doing soy really flattened me out.

Thanks for the information on Soy related foods in your diet. I really appreciate your input. I am a vegetarian and have been for many, many years. At the time that I became a vegan, I replaced all meat products with "SOY" products, especially Soy Protein. a day never went by that I didn't consume soy in my diet, and that is in a span of around 20 years thus far! All my meals had soy in them.

I am now going to the doctor this week because I have just not felt like myself in a long time; weight gain even when I don't eat (can never lose weight even with diet and exercise- seem to gain instead!), overly tired, dry skin, hair, nails that crack, hypothermia, acid reflux, itchy skin, carpal tunnel syndrome, insomnia, dry eyes, very low body temp. low blood pressure, slow pulse, etc. on and on and on.....And this, all because I try to be soooo healthy and watched what I ate, that I may have brought these syptoms on myself from consuming SOY all these years. I printed off a sheet on the web, Soy and your Thyroid, to which I am showing my doctor when I go for my visit. I can't wait to have a discussion with her about this subject. Hopefully, through some bloodwork, tests, etc. that she can determine what is now going on in what I thought was my healthy body! I will write about my results after I go to the docs.

Surprisingly my eye sight improved reading glasses went from 3 to 1 1/2! day 6 i started to get a little more energy. I love what it is doing for me. my waist line is a little less yet i gained some weight to start with think i might be gaining mussels. i also eat a few Brazil nuts for the selenium. I reply to "Lorraine from Charlotte, NC". You are asking for cure for acne for your 25 yrs old son. Buy Colloidal Silver at the health food store. Apply to the skin with a finger. You may use a small spray bottle but buy a good quality with that "misty" spray. Spray and leave it to dry. The effects you will see after 2-3 days but it will last up to 6 months in a case if his skin is very oily.

Also washing face with "hot-hot-hot" water helps. Get clean bowl with hot water and try to "dive in" and keep face for 20-30 seconds (do not get burns)!

Good luck. G.

I tell all my sisters, every female: STOP INGESTING SOY!... and its many products. Do your research and study what soy does to your thyroid. Then, check your grocery labels intensely because soy is in just about all packaged food labeled as vegetable protein, gluten...etc; in names disguised to fool the American public. So, do watch what you buy. It is used exclusively in most restaurants so try to cook at home as much as possible or eat simply of meat, fruit, salad with your own dressing (store bought salad dressing is loaded with SOY OIL). For me, first getting rid of soy, switching to red palm and coconut oil, stopped my extreme thyroid problems. Now I am slowly losing the weight that I could not lose no matter how much I exercised or ate well.. Applied Coconut oil with a drop of iodine soothes my aching neck. So ladies, if you find that you eat right, exercise and still cannot lose excess weight, you need to get rid of soy in all its forms. THIS KNOWLEDGE IS FINALLY CATCHING ON. Believe me, where the female goes, the nation follows. EXCESSIVE BLEEDING AND OVARY SWELLING, losing eyebrows, head and body hair, sore turkey neck, itchy skin, weight gain and a host of other SOY problems is the legacy of soy that catches up to you even if you are a tiny person. Without soy in my diet, I no longer suffer from extreme daily bleeding. And, my eyebrows are growing back and my hair has stopped falling out with my hairline slowly growing back in. BEWARE! IT IS THE SOY SISTERS.

You say that the coconut oil caused your hair to grow back thicker, your eyebrows to grow back, your hands and feet to warm up, yet you mention it doesn't cure thyroid problems. All these symptoms are for hypothyroidism. Why do you say, then, that coconut oil DOESN'T cure thyroid problems?

With regard to the Japanese "consuming" soy, it is my understanding that they only consume soy products that have undergone fermentation to remove the toxins..eg tofu, tempeh, soy sauce..Apparently they do not consume the beans themselves. The same in China though I have read that in very poor parts of China where the beans are consumed there is a very high rate of cretinism.

Samlaunch fron Knoxville, Tn - I wish you would come back and give us more detail about the hyperthyroidism cure.

Did you continue to take your perscribed medication while doing the Selenium, CoQ10 and L-lysine or did you stop? My thyroid is 4x faster than it should be and I just refuse to let them kill my thyroid. I've been on your vitamin workup for about a week now and my husband told me I was getting lighter [darkening of skin can be a side effect of hyperthyroidism] so the vitamins ARE doing something.

I tried coming off of my medication and my hyper symptoms started to reappear. I'm afraid to but am interested in trying to maybe double my dosage of vitamins by doing one in the morning and one in the evening to see if that will allow to discontinue the perscription. I'm on 4 - 50mg of PTU 4x day.

Your direction would be greatly appreciated.

could be an individual allergy or ?? but societies who consume whole soy as a regular staple, (Japan) seem to reap many health benefits as a result...there isn't an epidemic of thyroid problems. I beleive many in this society would do much better to substitute meat for whole soy. Natto being my favorite, though an acquired taste, has numerous health benefits...especially for those concerned about osteoporosis... I would eliminate non-stick pans & plastics & other chemical exposures first.

Yes, maybe soy is not that healthy as soy industry tells us but maybe it is also not that bad as the competetive industries try to make us believe.

Avoid Non-Stick Pans
Posted by Phil (Dearing, Ga/usa) on 01/28/2010

Hi Rob. I have had stainless steel cookware for years now, because of the danger of the non-stick. Only until recently did I start to cook in them. The reason, I could not cook ANYTHING without it STICKING to the stainless steel. Well thank goodness for the net. I went on google and found out the trick to keep stainless steel from sticking to food.

The trick seems to be to heat the cookware over medium heat for about 2 minutes. Turn off heat and spray with a nonstick or put your oil in and smear around. Before cooking turn heat back on to warm oil, then start to cook. I have used this method and now my food doesn't stick! I use a store brand OLIVE OIL non- stick spray first then add the oil of my choice, usally olive oil.

I hope this helps all that may want to cook with stainless steel, but have had the sticking issues.

Cooked scrambled eggs yesterday and there was NO STICK at all!

Non-Stick Pans & Thyroid disease

Perfluorooctanoic acid, used in non-stick pans and water-resistant fabrics may cause/contribute to thyroid disease. British researchers identified a link between the chemical (PFOA) & higher rates of thyroid disease.

Adults with the highest level of the chemical in the study were more than twice as likely to report thyroid disease... The study was published online in the Jan. 20, 2010 issue of Environmental Health Perspectives. It is not conclusive whether the chemical causes the thyroid problem or the thyroid malfunction results in the higher rate of chemical in the blood stream..My take...why take chances...get it out of the kitchen.

Hyperthyroid: My Story

August 14, 2007: Hyperthyroidism begins. This condition came out of the blue (nowhere) and hit me hard.

January 1, 2008 thru June 7, 2009: Condition worsens. Can't stand for more than a few seconds without shaking, can't hold a pen/pencil without my hands shaking all over the place. No sleep for more than 1-hour. Eyes and neck bulging. High blood pressure, 130-beats per minute is my resting heart rate, hair thinning and falling out, and small bumps begin appearing all over my body.

At the beginning of June 2009, I read Ted's post that linked to Dr. Denham Harman and researched any article on Dr. Harman; especially the interviews. He mentions Co Q-10 and Selenium. This website (earthclinic) mentions L-Lysine to regulate hormones.

June 7, 2009, I begin taking the three vitamins: Co Q-10 (100mg), Selenium (200mcg), and L-Lysine (500mg). One pill of each is taken everyday. I began noticing a change; 3-days after beginning my personal vitamin regimen. From December 2007 thru June 2009, I visited my doctor and the nuclear medicine specialist. They suggested radiation treatment to burn out my thyroid.

Between June 7, 2009 and October 7, 2009; drastic improvements have taken place. In October, I've switched my toothpaste to non-fluoride and drink only non-fluoridated water. At this point, I'm thoroughly cured. My doctor tells me to quit taking vitamins and to come in for my thyroid destruction. I tell him to get lost and continue with the vitamins.

December 5, 2009: No more symptoms. Hair is looking good, skin is nice and smooth with no problems, sleeping nicely, heart rate is normal, eyes back to normal, and my neck has shrunk back to normal. I haven't changed my soda pop drinking habits and it's one vice I'd like to keep.

The drastic changes occurred with the three vitamins, and eliminating all fluoride intake. The biggest plus working for me is that I was always in shape before the hyperthyroidism hit so my heart could take the rapid pace; until the health reinforcements could be found. Anyway, Ted saved my life and this earthclinic website. I do owe them a gigantic debt. One more thing, I mix one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass with bottled water; to drink every so often.

I get flare-ups of hyperthyroid symptoms - my test results have come back with the markers of graves disease. I have taken these symptoms to help with my hyperthyroid/jitteriness/insomnia/racing thoughts. If I take them for a few days - a few weeks and then re-take a thyroid test, my thyroid levels actually show remarkable improvement as my symptoms improve:

L-Tryptophan - 500milligrams - 3 pills up to 3X a day (without food)

Magnesium Chloride - 2 teaspoons 3X/a day (with food). I have also used Magnesium Citrate 1-2 teaspoons up to 3X a day. I think I prefer the Magnesium Chloride.

Magnesium Glycinate 400milligrams - up to 3X/day (with food)

Vitamin E - I know some doctors advise against taking large amounts of vitamin E so please check with your doctor. When I get very jittery vitamin E helps make me tired and calm me down so I'll take up to 800 iU a day of vitamin E as well.

These are the supplements that have significantly helped me. Please check with your doctor first!

Hi T: Thks for responding to my query. To answer yr question, I am currently on T3 (5mcg) and T4 (16mcg). I usually get these from a compounding pharmacy and my pharmacist says that they are plant based. He also did mention that it is a very small dose. Thats why I didn't think it might be too much meds. As for the antibodies test I had those and it was elevated but very slightly. Its been about 3 months since my diagnosis so I am kind of new to this. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm not Joyce but I hope you don't mind the reply. May I ask what meds you're taking? I've read that too much thyroid hormone can cause a rash.

Have you been checked for thyroid antibodies? With the rash and the spots, it might be a good idea to get those tested. TPOAb and TgAB are the tests you'd want.

This message is for Joyce from Joelton, Tn: i am hypothyroid and since my diagnosis 3 months ago, I have noticed a sudden appearance of liver spots on my back. Would you know if this is related to poor thyroid function? Also, After about 2 months on thyroid meds, i also notice a sudden rash on my arms/ tummy. Could the meds have something to do with this? Hope to hear from you soon. I would have asked my doctor but I am not due to see her until the end of this month. Any feedback you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Someone asked about how much was taken of each vitamin to cure my hyperthyroidism (Grave's Disease): one of each per day.

1. L-Lysine: 1 pill (500mg)
2. Selenium: 1 pill (200mcg)
3. Co Q-10: 1 pill (100mg)

The Selenium detoxified my system so that the Co Q-10 could do its' job of helping my mitochondria along. L-Lysine regulated my hormones. I should really stock up on those pills as there is mention of something called the CODEX: that will ban supplements as early as December 2009.

Yes, of course. I had been cured of Grave's Disease by using a combination of: Co Q-10, Selenium, and L-Lysine. Since, I'm very happy and back to my normal athletic self I did some research on Selenium and found that one atom of Selenium combines with one atom of mercury to neutralize the affects of a lifetime of vaccine/shots. Mercury causes a myriad of problems including hypo/hyper-thyroid problems: Protein inhibition, Disruption of mitochondria function, Direct affect on ion exchange in a neuron, Disruption of neurotransmitters, Destruction of the structural framework of neurons. L-Lysine regulates hormones in the body. Hypo/Hyper, to me it is one-and-the-same: too little or too many hormones, the three vitamins listed can bring your system back to productive functioning. Of course, the way you eat and what you drink (good water) will aid in your recovery. I don't drink tap water because I think it is poisonous. Mercury also causes gray hair and makes a person sterile. Ted, I love you very much. The link you provided to Dr. Denham Harman's reasearch on Free Radicals provided the clue into my finding my very own personal cure. I began taking Co Q-10, L-Lysine and Selenium on June 7th, noticed a change within one week and it is now August; a total transformation during that time. The good news is: I won't need the Nuclear Medicine treatment of burning out my thyroid or an operation to remove my thyroid. I can keep it (my thyroid) in place, where it belongs!!!

Re: coconut oil for thyroid. I have been hypothyroid for many years and am encouraged by those people who have successfully reversed their hypothyroidism. Do you continue to take coconut oil if your condition returns to normal? Or do you need to keep taking it once you are off meds and your bloodwork is normal?

SamLaunch's post is about HYPERthyroidism (such as Grave's Disease), not HYPOthyroidism. This is a very important distinction! One is overactive, the other underactive. People with HYPER-t should not necessarily be taking the same measures as those with HYPO-t or vice versa. Please be careful to make these distinctions both when posting and when reading the posts of others or doing research.

EC: Very true, thanks for pointing that out. Posts moved to correct section.

SamLaunch...What amounts of each did you use, and how often did you take them! Please be much clearer! Also, others posting their results, please remember to give exact measurements, time of day, times taken each day, whether it was pills, liquid, tablets or what ever! This information request is stated on the "comments/contact us" page. Thank you for your post though.

Thank You to everyone who contributes and writes on this website. My Hyper Thyroid problems began in March 2008 and lasted until May 2009. Thanks to Ted and his research which led me to find a vitamins that aid in long life: Co Enzyme Q-10, Selenium and L-Lysine. Here's what I took: Baking Soda mixed in apple cider vinegar with water added, those three vitamins listed above. What happened soon after taking those vitamins and drinking the drink: I fell into a deep sleep at 9:00PM. I never go to sleep at 9:00PM! I can't remember but it seemed like overnight, my eyes receded back into my head and my thyroid shrank. I say shrank because my neck had been bulging out with my eyes. I'm not sure which one of the four did the trick: Baking Soda w/ACV & H2O, Co Enzyme Q-10, Selenium and/or L-Lysine. I've been washing my scalp/hair with Borax and coating my face with Hydrogen Peroxide after shaving. I'm looking good and feeling good. I had been scheduled for the Thyroid radiation treatment at my veteran's office but no longer need or want to get a dose of that to fry my insides. Anyway, I'm very happy and owe my well-being to this free website. Thank You Ted and Friends.

You actually have proof of a negative reaction to fluoride. Will you be telling your local water commission about this?

For more info you can go to You Tube and see "The Fluoride Deception" an interview with Chris Bryson.

Also, FAN, Fluoride Action Network, http://www.fluoridealert.org/ has helpful tools for educating your city counselors, friends, and community about the problems with water fluoridation. Wouldn't it be nice if 2009 became the year that water fluoridation was stopped?!!!

Wishing you and your family well!

To Margaret Brooks from Amorilla, Tx.

Hello Margaret, Take that Kelp as instructed on the bottle or container it came in. As for taking the iodine itself Lugol's solution is stronger than SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide).

Don't forget those B complex vitamins though because a deficiency of these will also cause a sluggish thyroid. I suggest that you get a good stress tablet (B complex with vitamins C & E. The bottle will instruct you to take 1 tablet a day, but until get that thyroid kicked back to working properly take 1 tablet at mealtimes and bedtime (4 times a day), when you are feeling fit again you can decrease it to one a day.

After reading all of the remedies used for hypothyroid problems, I am confused. I would appreciate a recommendation on iodine usage. Suggestions here seem to be about even for Iodoral, Lugel's Iodine, and Sea Kelp. I just bought some Kelp(660mg) today so I will start with that in any case, but I'm not sure how much to take.

Another question I have is, would it be harmful to take the Kelp in conjunction with using EVCO? I've been suffering from this EXTREME fatigue for so long, and have just determined that thyroid is my problem so I'm anxious for quick results, but don't want to throw my hormones even further out of balance.

I love EarthClinic and have recommended it to many people. Thank you for being the resource we need in the world of medical ignorance that exists in the U.S.

Hello, Bev. You seem to know some stuff about your problems, but there is so much information out there that could be of so much use to you. Have you tried reading on thyroidism? There are some good books out there as well as some websites. About.com has some good info on thyroid issues, and it is a good starting point with your research. Also be aware that you could have more than one hormone problem going on in addition to your thyroid issues, such as adrenal issues or estrogen issues, that can complicate your problems even more. This can be especially true regarding your getting so sick with other things like pneumonia. Your immune system is probably severely compromised. I would suggest trying a Naturopathic doctor or a D.O. if you can't find one. They tend to be more of the thought of treating the person as a whole rather than just getting rid of the symptoms, and can be of significant help. And be careful with your home remedies that you thoroughly research each one, its side effects, and how it interacts with the other remedies you are doing before you try it. Otherwise you could be doing more harm than good to yourself. As a fellow struggler with hormones, and the thyroid in particular, I really understand what you are going through. Good luck and God Bless!

For a sluggish thyroid I use Kelp 660mg x2 and I also have started on Maca 1 tsp daily in your favorite beverage or choice of beverage, I have mine with my morning coffee. Both seem to be working fine. When I used it a few years back, (different reason) it worked well, cleared up the issue plus increased my energy and gave me a new attitude. Works good for mental, emotional wellness too. Good health and Blessings.

Chest pain from using coconut oil could actually be a good thing, if it is the feeling of a clogged up lymphatic system starting to drain. This feels like painful, slow-moving lumps.

I began taking a tablespoon of coconut oil in my morning tea each day. On about the 4th day, I suffered from chest pains which I had never experienced before. I discontinued use to rule out other possibilities, and when I reintroduced it, I suffered from the chest pains once again. I began taking the coconut oil to help a sluggish thyroid, but have stopped taking it since my negative experiences with it. I am 27 and in excellent health.
