I had BPPV.

I saw a vestibular therapist who did the Eply Maneuver on me. It is a simple head movement that a professional needs to do to you so that it is done properly. If it's not done properly, it won't help. Good luck.

I do not know if this will help... But regular table salt that we buy at the store is detrimental to your health. It is the sodium in sea salt or Himalayan sat that our bodies need. We have been on sea salt for over 2 years now. Try using that.. But I strongly suggest you try Himalayan salt. Make sure you buy from a reputable source. I hope this helps you.

Garlic, Mustard Oil

sorry, but you are very wrong on this one. Lots of people use garlic oil and hydrogen peroxide in their ears. Garlic kills the germs in a ear infection

Reporting I cured myself from vertigo in 2010 it's now 2013. Simply eliminating aspartame. Still not one episode. HOWEVER, IF THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR YOU there lies a bigger problem, ask your doctor to check for Gliosis. Scarred brain tissue and early signs of MS. A friend was recently diagnosed.

Sounds like you are suffering from the same afflicition as me, BPV - Benign Positional Vertigo. It is due to crystals in your ear being out of place and the last time I had it I was cured instantly after bumping my head (quite hard) when standing up. This time I am taking a gentler approach and using the Brandt and Daroff exercises which you will have no problem finding on the internet. Hope this information helps.

Swedish Bitters

For about a month now I have been taking Swedish Bitters. For the last 2 years I have had vertigo and don't know if it had to do with a brain surgery I had 8 years ago. Since taking the Swedish Bitters I have been feeling so much better and the dizzy spells are leaving me. It got to the point where I was afraid to sleep because when I put my head down on the pillow the dizzy spells would hit so hard I couldn't tell if I was up or down it worried me that I could fall out of bed.

Go to your health food store and see if they carry the bitters. It can be a bit pricy 28.00 for a 16 oz bottle but this is already prepared. There are some webites you can go to that sell the herbs a lot cheaper them selves and they give you directions on how to take them. I have the pdf of the OLD MANUSCRIPT BY PARACELSUS THE INVENTOR OF SWEDISH BITTERS IN 1541 and can give it to Earth Clinic and see how they want to send it out or you can email me for it. It doesn't sell anythng it just tells you how to apply the bitters to different illnesses. Love, love, love Earthclinic it has helped me so much!

OTC Antihistamine
Posted by Evelina (Livonia, MI, USA) on 04/11/2009

Years ago I started experiencing dizzy spells. They became much worse. My worst experience left me on a couch for three days. The room just wouldn't stop spinning. I was tested by my doctor, ENT's, a neurologist and finally an allergist. I was allergic to my dog, mold and dust. I found benedryl (an OTC antihistamine) would cure the dizzy spells. The triggers were the allergens. I kept my dog out of the bedroom, and changed my diet, less cheese (just couldn't give it up) and no mushrooms. I already had a special filter system on my furnace, but I also bought a unit for the first floor. When I do my spring and fall gardening, I make sure to take a pill at bedtime for two to three days. All that mold in the yard can really cause my head to spin if I forget that pill. It really works. Years later, I spoke to our property manager (for a vacation rental we owned), who apologized to me for being so flaky during an earlier conversation. She said she suffered from dizzy spells and nothing was helping. I told her about my experience with benedryl. She called me that month and was so grateful! She felt she'd gotten her life back. She had been so scared and sick. It worked for her. She could hardly believe the solution was so simple. We had that condo for three years and we spoke regularly. She continued to have success with the benedryl, too."

I read of a case of a lady developing Meniere's after living next to a cell phone mast. She was amongst alot of other persons who took ill. There is a disease highly recongnized in Sweden, Germany, Canada, and even some cases in the U.S. called electrohypersensitivity (EHS). This condition has some very similar feature's to Menier's for those who are sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies. This should be ruled out. Get close to a cell phone mast or monitor your reaction near wireless networks, especially those in doctor's offices and other strong EMF fields to rule out this condition. An MRI will make the condition worse if this is the case.

I had a sudden attack of vertigo two days ago and read that some causes of vertigo could be related to a lack of water in the body due too to much salt or a high cholesterol. If this is the case. A diet as simple as staying off caffeine and salt would help. And taking more citrusy fruits like oranges will help reduce the bout of spinning. It works.

Salt-Free Diet

Salt Free Diets -- to help with Meniere's Disease -- Seasonings and ways to cook that make a world of difference -- I've learned that once you start removing salt from your diet, you don't crave it as much. Charcoal grilling your meats and vegetables make a huge difference in the taste. I make a lot of soups -- and I use orange juice as a base, lemon and lime zest and the juice, vinegar, instant coffee, brown sugar, pepper, and then fresh jalapenos, onions, celery to season my soups. Just pick and choose -- and experiment to see what you like. You can also purchase salt free can vegetables -- and especially tomatoes. And frozen vegetables are salt free.

I've found the less salt I have in my diet, the less I suffere from Meniere's Disease.

Fada, thanks for the testimony. If I may add a suggestion that seems might be an effective adjuct to the sea salt. The amino acid Taurine is a powerful brain antioxidant AND regulator of minerals in the body. Both these feature of T just might put your healing to the next level. Just Sayin'.

there are many different reasons for vertigo..one i had had was a fleck in gryoscope hairs in fluid in the ear.. the fleck keeps the hairs from flowing correctly ,,sending false imputs to the brain..

the cure is/was,, lay on back on bed.. head hanging off but neck supported neutral..then roll head to the right side for 10 seconds.. then back to neutral for 10 sec. .. then roll to left for 10 sec. .. then back to neutral.. it's hard to to do.. brain spinning at warp speed.. probably vomit. but hang in there.. what happens is by doing this clears the fleck .. like magic your good to go..

Epley Maneuver, Peppermint Oil
Posted by Sam (Miami) on 05/05/2023

Oh, I know exactly what you went through. It could be something that Epley Maneuver cures or beginning of something more sinister. The trauma of even one episode won't go away for a long time. The same happened to me, only I was spinning, not the room around me, and I was spinning into almost fainting, I was 100% sure I was dying. I don't want to tell you my story which is not over, no need to frighten you. Your story could end with just one episode. Advice: do get head MRI that also covers ear canals. No supplements work for vertigo, however try and see for yourself.

Garlic, Mustard Oil

I read somewhere on internet that vertigo could be because of some bacteria or infection in your ear. So u can treat it like this, take two garlic cloves, smash it, then take 2, 3 tblsp of mustard oil, heat it and roast the garlic in it. Remove it from heat. Let it get cool. Then put 2/3 drops in your affected ear at night. I did it 4 two nights and I felt pretty good. Well my vertigo is still there but not that annoying. Hopefully it will get cured if I do it continuously.

Migraine Link to Vertigo

I have suffered from periodic vertigo for 10 years. Nothing has really helped. I have had to wait several days for it to pass while taking meclizine hydrochloride and allergy medicine. Recently a friend told me she had symptoms similar to mine which were correctly diagnosed as vestibular migraines. Once she told me that, it all fit together.

All of the things that trigger migraines triggered my vertigo - artificial sweeteners, caffeine, some fragrances, nuts, florescent lights. I then started treated my vertigo as a migraine. The best treatment has been making sure I get 8 hours of sleep a night. But I am anxious to try Apple Cider Vinegar. And if it helps me to loose some weight too, yippy!

Oil Pulling
Posted by Tavora (Brooklyn, NY) on 03/29/2009
★★★★☆

OP might help with inner ear infection and imbalance problems

I have a question on oil pulling. I have been suffering from an inner ear infection (or at least that's what I was told) for about 7 months now. I think I've tried everything! Tried the meds the docs/ENTs gave me but they didn't work - my condition is now beyond the acute phase and is chronic. I have two major symptoms: a rocking/imbalanced sensation....and a tightness and suffocated pain in my right ear (the affected ear). I have other mild to moderate symptoms - like tingling and nerve pain but I generally try to ignore them. I had many tests done and all came back normal. However, my upper cervical and lower back are slightly misaligned so this may be causing some compression in terms of healthy nerve flow. I don't feel at a loss - thank God for maintaining faith and hope - but I would like to restore my balance and eliminate the pain in the ear. I feel like the ear is not getting enough blood flow and because the ear houses the balance organs in the body - I surmise this is why I am still dealing with the imbalanced sensation (ie. not enough nutrients and oxygen getting into the area). I've recently seen a nutritionist/ND who is helping me fix my diet and treat other issues but I wanted to know if anyone has experienced a similar issue to mine and saw good results with oil pulling. I actually tried it today for 10 mins w/ coconut oil and it did decrease the pain in the ear - in addition to helping my sinuses drain out (this part really amazed me!) - also important to note - the ND told me he believes the infection may have stemmed from some blockage in my sinuses and that by clearing out this area, I would be in a better position to attack the virus. Well, I did want to say that after immediately doing the OP - and coughing up whatever mucus that came out - I walked around for a bit and did notice that my balance felt a bit more stabilized. Just an observation but definitely worth taking note of. Your thoughts are appreciated. :0)

Wow... thank you Rene, thank you for your alert and comments that TMD may be the reason for 'Meniere's' Diagnosis. I have had problems with dizziness every year around the same time. I have it right now in fact. I just wanted to say that a few months ago I bought a natural cures book of some sort and it said that strawberries help vertigo. Yes, eating fresh strawberries. I don't know what truth there is to this but it definitely wouldn't hurt or how much it would take for it to work. Actually, according to http://nutrition.about.com/od/fruitsandvegetables/p/strawberries.htm, strawberries contain more vitamin C then orange juice. Who wants a strawberry shake? I might do that tomorrow for breakfast. Lots of fresh fruit with a cup of yogurt and some milk plus a little almond extract is YUM!

I have also been diagnosed with Meniere's and put on Valium as well as a diuretic. Both made me extremely ill. Yoga is very helpful. You have to teach your brain that you are in balance. Your brain gets use to the fact that you are always off balance so you have basically re-train yourself. It takes time and sometimes you are dizzy while exercising but does help. Also, no caffeine and very low sodium diet. Good Luck
