I just want to say thanks so much for the advice. I am the proud owner of a beautiful 4 1/2 chocolate American Pit Bull Terrier. About a month after we gother I started noticing her hair falling out around her eyes and in spots on her chest and legs...I was devastated. She is a beautiful girl with one of the best temperments I have ever seen in a pit and I have seen quite a few. I found out that the otyher pups from her litter were also experiencing the same problem and had been diagnosed with puppy mange. Thats when I started looking for a home remedy...I found Ted's and am happy to report my girl is getting better. Almost immediately after the first treatment we could see a difference. This is her second week and about 85% of her hair has returned and she is beginning to blossom into quite a gorgeous girl. I know that she was more sucseptible to the mites due to a horrible worm infestation she had when we first got her. Now she is on a lamb & rice diet, worm free and mite free!
We simply mixed 32oz of peroxide; 64oz of warm water and a full cup of borax into a sprayer and soak her in it. No drying of any kind just let her air dry. I have been rotating this with baths of Adams Shampoo and Sulfodene Shampoo which is medicated in order to help her heal faster and kill the smell of the peroxide. Thanks Ted you have made my Hershey girl and her mom very happy by sharing your knowledge! And saved us thousands of dollars in vet bills! Thanks Again!

I have used the borax peroxide treatment on my pup. It did get rid of the mange. But now she has developed something else, it looks like little craters on her skin it bleeds and it's oozing. Could this be a reaction to the borax treatment. did I do it too much???

Hi, my 10 year old Shitzu was diagnosed with generalized Demodectic Mange. I went the Veterinary recommended way and tried Antibiotics for many months along with Advantage multi, antihistimines, Ivermectin and nothing helped. My dog was in serious condition. His feet, legs and face were all scabbed over. He was so depressed and he was no doubt suffering terribly. It was very painful for him to even walk. Putting him to sleep was seriously considered. I found this site, and went for it. I started him on daily baths this solution. In a bucket I mixed: ONE 16 ounce bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide. I refilled this 16 ounce bottle TWICE with hot water. I then dumped in 1/2 cup to 1 Cup of Borax. Mixed it for about 30 seconds. Lots of Borax remained undissolved at the bottom of the bucket, but that was my indication that the solution was fully saturated with the Borax. Then I it sponged on him while he stood in the bathtub with the drain plugged. I just sponged it on, it took about 5 minutes. I did not rince him. I just let him out...all wet, and let him dry on his own. After 1 week, there was a noticeable improvement in his spirits and his appearance. Then I bathed him every 3 days, now about every two weeks. He just had a skin scrapping and the mites are at a very low count. My Vet was very impressed. This took about 2 mounths to see these results. But after every bath there was an improvement. When he started to smell again was my indication to bathe him again. This worked for my dog when nothing else did. I then worked on clipping off all the old scabs and skin excreations. He is a happy, healthy dog again. I cannot thank this site enough for this valuable information.

I'm sad to say that Ted's remedy did not work for my dog. I have a cock-a-poo and for almost 3 months has had sarcoptic mange. I have tried everything, she first was given Ivermecin, then I tried the borax + h2o bath, and now she has her 4 Mitaban Dip tomorrow :( It that doesn't seem to be working either. I shaved her yesterday because i heard that cutting the hair would let the treatment get right to her skin, and this morning I woke up with a million bites on me. I've been to the doctor 3 times to treat scabies for myself. Some PLEASE help, I don't know what else I can do! Thank you!

My dog has had a skin conditions for over 4 years. I have tried everything the vet gave me, plus anything else I could think of. She has to have predisone every day, or she would itch so bad and get hot red skin. Another vet recently told me she had red mange, and that he wanted to use Ivemetin. I did not want to subject her to that so I looked on line and found this site. I used the peroxide and 20 mule team borax powder, I used one coffee cup of peroxide, and a scoop, which is 3 tablesopoons of the powder, and let that disolve. It has worked wonders. Her redness, sores, bumps, itching, and so on is gone, almost over night. She also had a scaly black condition inside her ear leather, going into her ear canal. I put the peroxide solution on her ears and it has been a week now and that is almost gone too. Thank you so much for this tip, I am very happy and I know my dog is much happier. I have used it twice and plan on using it about once a week for a month or so, and then waiting to see if any new problems come back. So far it looks very promising. She did not mind it at all. I have put so much medicine on her that she just hates it all, but this solution did not bother or upset her at all. She seemed to almost enjoy it. I don't know that for sure, just my observation. Again, thank you very much. I would tell everyone to try it, it just might work for you too!

ted, just like everyone else, here to thank you for your remedy - dude i'm so freaking excited that i don't know what to write - well first of all after reading all or most of the messages about mange - i believed i'm the first one who tried the borax remedy on myself - i love my dogs like if i didn't have them i wouldn't want to live anymore but anyway i was diagnose with lymphoma a couple of years ago so my immune system its weak so i pick up those disgusting bugs and haven't been able to sleep or focus to do anything for a few days my dogs depressed and i'm depressed. though it was the end so finally i decided to try your remedy and as i was mixing it my boys (doggies) are trying to figure out what am doing so i told them that it was for myself and i tried it and i tried and more and all of the bites all over my body stop itching they are getting dry. my dogs are happy am happy i'll be able to walk them and won't have to hide my arms. god bless you

Two weeks ago a 6-7 month old shepherd-mix puppy showed up on our ranch. He had a horrible, mange-like, skin infection. Multiple, multiple bare skin areas, some bleeding, some with so much inflammation that the skin was thick and hard. His ears, legs, lower back, abdomen, and areas around and on the tail were grossly affected. Anywhere he could reach with his teeth or claws was raw and bleeding. (This puppy had marks where he had a worn a collar that had been removed. I'm sure that some person didn't want to spend money on him--so the collar came off and he got to go for a "ride in the country".) I quickly called the vet and made an appointment for him later that afternoon. I've never had experience with mange and decided to research it online. I had no idea that mange was so hard to manage taking months of veterinary care and payments. I quickly came across Ted's Remedy for mange and instead of making the vet visit decided to purchase the "cure". We are two weeks into the treatment and much improved. This little guy had it so bad that I was sure that he would never grow hair again but I'm now seeing that he will. He is not 100% yet but sooooo much improved. Hair is growing back on those leathered ears and heels, and the elbows and rear end continue to improve. I will say that I think it does look worse a day or so after the bath with the itching continuing. But then more of the redness goes away and the scratching gets less. I've been mixing 32 ounces of 3% peroxide with 64 ounces of water. I add about a 1 1/2 cups of borax powder (laundry area at Wal-mart). I've been bathing him with an oatmeal shampoo (really necessary at first because he was covered in mud), rinsing and then sponging on the borax solution. I bathed him two days in a row, skipped three days, and now I'm doing it once a week. I'm not sure if more frequent bathing would help but because of the fact that it seems to increase the redness and itching for a while I thought I'd let him have a few days between bathing to cool down. He still scratches occasionally but is so much more comfortable than the first few days. He is beginning to play like the pup that he is and certainly feels much better. I am confident that it IS going to work so "THANK YOU, TED!"

★★★☆☆WORKED TEMPORARILY
I wrote in months ago about the great results we had using borax perox baths. A few months after using the baths, I noticed Rockys condition getting bad again. I continued bathing him every 3 days in the bath, Vit E oil orally and topically. Pinch of borax in his wather... Diluted Tea tree oil on mange 'pimples'...I have been diligently keeping up with Rocky. Sometimes he looked like he was growing hair like crazy.. and next thing he looked like he was losing it again... I have been frustrated, but tried not to give up hope....in the end, I am sad to report, that this morning, after dropping him off to have him neutered, I recieved a phone call a little later in the day. The mange was getting worse and I was informed that I could possibly have abuse/neglect charges brought against me for not treating his mange medically. I had to leave my work because I almost got sick all over. Never in a million years would I expect to hear these words directed towards me. I love this dog and am sick to my stomach. I followed the instructions completely and carefully and religiously. I am now forced to go back to mitaban and start him on ivermectin. I have purchased antifungal shampoo to help heal the "secondary skin infection" that Rocky has now developed and have him on antibiotics, and heart worm med (starting in a few weeks) The doc actually told me that it was close to turning into "Red Mange". I was so hopeful. Now I am just scared. This poor dog has been suffering and I am beyond feeling guilty... I can't bathe him for 7 days but am feeling desperate to start him on the chemicals that I was so against. I cannot let this dog get any worse and risk his life....
Any suggestions or advice Ted?
Sincerly Caren

I recently found out my dog has demodectic mange. In an attempt to avoid the costly and time-consuming vet visits, I looked for at-home remedies. I found yours. Today, I bathed him, then washed him with the Borax/Hydrogen Peroxide solution (1% H2O2, 1.5 TBP per liter). I also made extra solution and immersed a cloth in it and rubbed my dog with it whenever and wherever he scratched. He's now scratching more than ever, to the point where he'll start bleeding. Is an increase in scratching and hair loss immediately following the commencement of treatment normal, or is it not working? Did I do something wrong?

Ok I was very skeptical about using this on my 1 year old shih-tzu, considering that borax is a detergent & something just didn't seem right about putting this on my dog. Well after just the first time (I sponged it on the bald spots on her face & body - 3 spots total), I saw a huge difference. The spots weren't bright red anymore & she wasn't scratching them. After only 5 days I see little hairs sprouting in the bald spots. I used only 1/4 of the ingredients Ted listed, since her spots were very focal, not her whole body, & sponged them twice so far in 5 days. Huge difference. Thanks so much for all your help!

I have a purebred pug 2 years old who has had Demodex for 18 months many Vet appointments which he was given Ivermectin antibiotics and spot on treatments, dips as well, nothing worked and he continued to get worse his feet are swollen and bleeding, I was desperate to find a cure, when I found Ted's remedy for Demodex mange, I followed the instructions for mixing 1000ml 3%peroxide 2000ml water and 3 tabsp. Borax, I keep rinsing him with it for 15 min and let him drip dry, the first bath I could not believe how much dander?(eggs/mites? he shed I was sweeping it up, I washed all the floors and bedding with Borax too, it has been a week now and 2 baths with Borax, he is looking so much better I'm so pleased and hopeful he is still not well only eats and sleeps goes out to do his business 2x a day, he is a pitifull site I pray this will work as I can not continue much longer to watch him suffer, I feel if I could get him well enough to get him nutered this would help I have taken pictures of him as I hope to have before and after of his cure from the nightmare of Demodex. I remain extremely hopeful and I will continue to use this remedy and let you know how it goes.

I was at my wits end when I came to the site and learned about Ted's Cure for Mange! We had just gotten our baby Daisy, she's a pure bred pitbull, and 9 weeks in and a few weeks after her vaccinations she started to get these red pimple like bumps an the next day hair loss. i was freaking out since i had never seen anything like it before.I'm glad we caught it right away. My husband and I began the treatment once a day and sprayed her with the solution throughout the day on the really infected spots. We also kept her in a very clean "solitary confinement"-which she absolutely hated- We put 1/8 of borax in her water every day, gave her liquid doggy vitamins and kept her on an all raw meat-chicken/beef-diet. Within a week she was going crazy as happy as can be. She has just two small spots left and her black coat is dyed quite orange lol but if thats all the side effects are then thats quite alright. I just want to thank Ted soooooo much and i will continue to keep her on the meat diet and once the spots clear up I will do weekly washes on her.
I USED (1)- 32 ounce bottle of peroxide,
(2)-32 ounce bottles of water ( i just filled up the already used bottle of peroxide filled w/ water),
1 cup of borax and I also found that using 1 cup of white vinegar with it really made it work.
By the 3rd day I had perfected the concoction and by the end of that day i could really tell the difference. thanks again!-kathy

I can't thank you all of you enough for your wonderful help. I have learned so much for humans and our furry friends. With Ted's mange recipe, I added the aloe vera to it and it helped it stay on our dog's skin longer and I could really tell the difference. Our 4 pound Yorkie has so many health challenges, last trip to the vet she got a shot and I left with 5 perscriptions. God bless you for your time, effort, love and help.

Today June 25th 2008, trying the (TED's) borax and hydrogen peroxide remedy on my old cat and myself against mange. My poor old grey cat looks like a funny poodle, because he seems shaven in his neck and tail, but it's mange and hairloss, also on part of his back and his poor feet are soooo infected. The cat is 16. There are three more cats here, who had it too, but not as bad and are now free after a two month every two weeks revolution treatment that is of course very expensive. My old cat however doesn't seem to get free of it, instead it's only worse. And so with me. I got it right away, my family too, but they're almost rid of it. I think low immune systems of the cat and myself are playing a role. I am diabetic and my immune system is not the greatest. I cannot by the life of me, separate the cat, that is just not possible because he is so affectionate and loves company. This is the first time in 55 years of having cats I contracted something from them. I wash wash wash, our bedding, his bedding. Clothes, bedding, and did I say bedding? Put it outside on the line in the sun to dry. Now I see it should go into the dryer on highest/hottest setting. I guess, the sun won't kill those critters either. The dryer does get hot alright, so it probably is good if I use that. I just got the borax and peroxide at the supermarket, after reading this website and mixed it up and rubbed down the cat who now looks like a drowned poodle and I rubbed myself down with it too. I wonder if this will help and I threw half a cup of borax in the load of laundry (bedding).. It's now almost getting to be three months of dealing with this. I am almost at the end of my rope, and I also notice the cat sleeps lots, lost weight, is still perky when awake, but doesn't eat much, drinks much and I am very tired myself, no energy etc, but no weight loss (that is too bad, I need some)...will keep you all posted. If this helps, I am sure going to tell everyone about it!

TED'S REMEDY OF BORAX AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE WORKS!! My rottweiler puppy was losing hair all over.....I tried this remedy and his coat is thick and shiny again. After 3 treatments. ( I mixed the suggested amounts in the bathtub, my dog jumped in... and i continuously poured the mixture over his entire body, for 10 minutes, let him air dry, DID NOT RINSE HIM OFF. No more scratching!! My dog is as happy as can be. THANK YOU, from both of us!!!!
