Natural Remedies for Dog Tumors
Essiac tea is a combination of four herbs. (Sometimes you will find an eight herb combination. The four herb combination is the original formula.) Essiac tea is a gentle but effective way to treat tumors. It takes patience to use Essiac. The tea must be give daily. It can be mixed with food or given by syringe.
The four herbs that work together to reduce tumors are burdock root, sheep sorrel, turkey rhubarb and slippery elm. These four herbs can be bought in a combination powder form and the tea made at home.
The oil from the castor bean has many healing properties and has helped many people and animals with abnormal growths. The oil is applied topically to the tumor twice a day. Castor oil is a messy remedy. If you are able to cover the area after applying oil, this will protect bedding and furniture.
Sometimes growths will change in appearance or even become larger for a time after the castor oil treatment has begun. Sometimes the tumor opens and fluids will be released. If this happens, keep the area clean with hydrogen peroxide, and change the bandage twice daily, if a bandage is appropriate for the location of the tumor. Turmeric powder can also be applied topically to prevent infection if a wound should open up with the castor oil treatment.
Turmeric is a useful remedy for dogs and cats for many ailments, including tumors. Turmeric is usually given internally to treat tumors. Turmeric can be mixed with food. It can be given in capsules and disguised in food. Some animals will readily take turmeric. Others will need the ingenuity of their owners for this remedy. Poor quality diet is linked to tumors. Many pet foods contain multiple ingredients that are not part of the natural diet of a dog or cat. If your pet is suffering with tumors, feed a grain free diet and one free of fillers, chemicals, food dyes, etc. Many pets do well on a raw diet.

Pet vaccinations have been linked to many tumors in dogs and cats. It is not uncommon for tumors to form at the very site vaccinations were administered in the past. For this reason, you need to be your pet’s advocate and avoid any unnecessary or redundant vaccinations.
Chemical exposure may also put your pet at risk for tumors. Pets that spend a lot of time in a yard that is regularly treated with chemicals to control weeds or pests are at higher risk for tumor formation than pets whose living areas do not have chemicals used in them regularly.
