Hi, Just wanted to point out that you can purchase a large jar of Black Strap Molasses for less than Two Pounds (£2) from Holland and Barretts (natural)... I wouldn't refrigerate it though.. it just hardens up... and for those that take a spoon full directly i would recommend dipping the spoon in some water... leaving a few drops on and then using the top of the mouth to scrape it from the spoon. The water helps it glide off easier.. and the top of the mouth helps avoid the molasses from getting stuck on your teeth... and then immediately rinse the mouth to wash excess away. I hope this helps.

OK. If I am not mistaken blackstrap molasse is a black kind of sugar made from sugar cane or beet, right? It has a strong smell and is very dark, almost black which is why it is called blackstrap molasse. If this is what you're talking about it is called "melasse noire" and can probably be found in a "epicerie Antillaise" (grocery store from Guadeloupe/Martinique) or any store that sells exotic products.

Blackstrap molasses is available in NYC on the Upper East Side at the Food For Health Natural Food Supermarket, 1653 Third Ave. (92nd/93rd Sts.), NY 10128, Tel. 212-369-9202,
www.foodforhealthny.com. I bought PLANTATION Blackstrap Unsulphured Molasses, NET 31 FL OZ. (915 ml) for $5.79 (tax incl.) BTW: On ebaY someone tries to sell a 16 FL OZ. bottle (that is approximately half the quantity) of the same stuff for $8.55 plus $7.13 shipping, which is really expensive if you consider that it is a by-product from the processing of (sugarcane or sugar beet into) sugar and it is being used in the manufacture of cattle feed, and for other industrial uses. So keep asking at your local shop if they do not want to start selling it...
EC: Whole Foods also sells this brand of blackstrap, about the same price...

This is just a minor comment. I believe that if a food tastes better, it's better for the body, excluding poisonous over-refined foods & MSG... I've tried the Fair-trade BS Molasses & it tastes awful. Grandma's, & "OLD" Plantation molasses, as well as all the other Black Strap Molasses brand's that I've tried do not taste good. I can see why people think they have to take their molasses w/ warm milk to make it taste good. The one brand that consistantly tastes wonderful, for me, is "Plantation" molasses, NOT "old Plantation". Plantation Molasses, to me, is perfect. I drink it straight from the bottle, along with some tahini. In fact, the combination of tahini and Plantation molasses is out of this world! I love it & drink it everyday. It's really one of my main staples. I put tahini in just about all of the veggies I eat, along w/ other spices like turmeric, soy-sauce(only organic-no gmo soy), sea salt, stevia... Try it, & you'll see. At the health food store it's like $5.50/bottle, but I'm certain it's cheaper online. Enjoy!

...Also, to the woman that is asking where to find blackstrap molasses, someone said near the honey in the grocery store. At the grocery store where I shop, it is on the shelf right next to the regular molasses and karo syrup.

For those of you looking for molasses in France:
- Organic molasses is available from the Naturalia chain where it is sold as mélasse noire.
- Black treacle (the British name for molasses) can be found at Galéries Lafayette Gourmet.

I have been reading about the wonderful cures for fibroids and anaemia on this site . . . I have had fibroids since 2003 and horrendous heavy bleeding. I raced out a couple of days ago to buy some organic blackstrap molasses which you can buy at the Bushwhacker Health Food Shop on King's Street in London W6 - it's less than £2 for a large jar. I've been taking 1 tbsp twice and sometimes three times a day . . . Looking forward to better health! Am also taking 1 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar in water twice a day.

Response to Pauline from Merseyside, United Kingdom. I wanted to know if she or anyone knows if the BSM pills are available to purchase off the internet or somewhere in the U.S.? It would be way more convenient to travel with pills versus my bottle of molasses. Thanks!
EC: Try a Google search with keywords "blackstrap molasses pills" and you will find a listing for the brand Swanson -- "Premium Brand Blackstrap Molasses with Iron 29mg 250 Tablets". There must be other brands too!
