I've got two aunts in their 80's and take no prescription medicine and are fairly active for the age. They swear by inhaling turpentine esp in the winter to prevent flu. They also take a few drops on their tongue from time to time. They have got some old bottles of turpentine and it reads rectified and it gives the dosage that can be taken. Has anyone else heard of inhaling the vapors to prevent any illness?
In our family we have always used it to cure sore throats. Take a deep breath (so you will be exhaling, swab a little on the back of your throat, then take a spoon full of honey, sugar or jelly. It’s the best relief for a sore throat I’ve ever taken.
In ref to brand names for Turpentins I guess we are not allowed to name or use links. I heard of this organic product made in the USA on a holistic radio show. Google these words Diamond and Forest and Turpentine and you will find some quality products. I have the local hardware store brand at home but plan on ordering the organic type soon.
I wish we could post an avatar or photo here of a couple very old steel vintage pharmacy signs for pure gum spirits turpentine with the dosages for internal use written on them. They appear to be from the early 1900's era. One is from a pharmacy in Hartford New York & the other from a pharmacy in Roseburg Oregon. Turpentine was definitely a common cure-all back in the day.
Post for us what the labels read, please! 🙂
