I have been taking a zinc supplement for several years. Recently I ran out of my zinc (gluconate) 50mg caplets and neglected to order more in a timely manner. Within days of stopping the zinc, I started getting leg cramps at night; sometimes several times during each night. I did not connect the missing link to this problem as researching this problem brought up no suggestion this could be the cause. This became a nightly issue for me. When I finally got my new supply, within a day or two, the cramps stopped. I still did not make the connection. I didn't realize that I had formed a new habit while filling my weekly pill dispenser, of not adding the zinc into my daily routine 100%. Every time I forgot to take the zinc, the problem would come back that night. FINALLY, I made the connection; each time I omit the zinc while filling my pill keeper, the leg cramps are guaranteed to strike me that night. When I am faithful at taking my supplement, no cramps! I can't find this connection in any of my research but for me, this is the remedy for severe leg (and foot) nightly cramping. I hope this may help someone else.
