DIGESTIVE ENZYMES

9 YEA

[YEA]  06/17/2007: Lina from NY, NY writes: "I have never experienced acid reflux until 2 years ago and it was really interfiring with my life. I couldn't eat or sleep. I went to the doctor and he prescribed some pills that did nothing. A friend told me about this natural pills Pineapple and Papaya enzimes. She said they worked wonderful on her. I tried them and in just a couple of hours I started to feel the relief! I strongly recommend this pills. You can get them in any natural store and they taste really good. Good Luck!"

[YEA]  06/12/2007: Bouy from Winnipeg, Canada writes: "I am one of thousands that has acid reflex. I was provide a presciption from my doctor that said I would have to be on it forever. The drugs did not cure this condition, so I looked for a natural way of relieving this condition. I have tried the apple cider viniger, and it did work for me. But, I have also found that digestive enzymes have been my answer. I use a -complete- formula that helps digest all your food. I have tested them for two months with extreme success. I hope this info will help others. Good Luck and lets get natural."

[YEA]  05/16/2007: Roxanne from Ft. Lauderdale, FL writes: "Always sleep on your left side, so stomach acids don't drain into your stomach. Start taking good natural digestive enzymes to break down the food that is rotting and stuck in your small intestine area. This gets things moving and the acid reflux stops. Also get lots of fiber or take capsules of psyllium with a big glass of water before bed. Stay away from antacids that stop the acid that your body is creating to try to break down the rotting foods. Just keep it all moving away from the top end and out the bottom end. Drink plenty of water! :)"

[YEA]  05/08/2007: Israel from Austin, Texas writes: "I was diagnosed with Acid reflux two years ago at 27. I was given that (blue red)pill, but I like others realized that once i was off it, my acid reflux came back. I am not 100% sure what has caused it but have narrowed it down to the intake of soda as a youth. I am intrested to find the correlation between the extra large sized drink given out by fast food restraunts and the increased case of acid-reflux. Did the case increase upon their introduction? As for possible cure's I have tried a few...the best results came with digestive enzymes...I also tried goat milk which did alright but I am lactose intolerant...I have also read about a type of yogurt, helps that was popular in the 60's, but I don't know the name, if anyone knows what I am talking about please post the name. It has a natural way of stabilizing the digestive cultures in our system. Avoid grease, spice, and acids...especially vinegar...and eat slow...that is the biggest adjustment that has helped me...eat really, slow and smaller portions.."

[YEA]  08/26/2006: Jonathan from Memphis, TN writes: "I tried the ACV with honey and it worked some, but did not last. The pickle juice helped some, but again not lasting. I read on another website where people had success with digestive enzymes and aloe vera gel. I went to GNC and they said many customers like an enzyme formula plus Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria along with aloe vera liquid. They said that acid reflux often stems from a lack of enzyme activity. These enzymes also contain betaine hydrochloride to increase stomach acid. I was on Protonix for a while, but I didn't like the way it made me feel. I decided to stop it and try the enzymes instead. These have absolutely cured my reflux!! I take two per meal and have been able to eat whatever I want. They are easy to break open if you don't want to try and swallow the capsules. I break them open and mix them with a glass of water before I eat. Don't worry, it doesn't taste bad at all! GNC even suggested sprinkling them in yogurt, milk, or directly on your food. I also take 2 ounces of aloe vera liquid each night. I wanted to share my success so that you may have the same relief I have. I'm glad I don't have to sit up in bed at night anymore! Best wishes!"

[YEA]  05/11/2006: Sarah from Maplewood, NJ writes: "My mom uses an egg yolk, honey and milk for me since I was little when it attacks. Egg yolk -- try to use twice a week but every day use warm milk [whole milk works better] and one teaspoon of honey for three to four days. Once I use this, I don't get the acid reflux for more than six months or so. Trust me I have tried so many things but nothing works like milk and honey. I have never try the AVC. I will try it."

FRUIT JUICE

3 YEA

[YEA]  07/17/2007: Michael from Plainfield, Illinois writes: "I was fighting Acid Reflux for over 45 Years I've tried every pill and formula out there and read every book on the market. I have one remedy that works for me. I call it the Blaster I got it out of a juicing book and it will keep the fire from starting 90% of the time. I use a Vita-Mix blender and put in 2 glasses of filtered water - 1 Banana - 1 Mango - 1/2 Papaya - 1 large slice of pinapple- 1 orange - I blend it into a drink and drink a 8 oz glass 2 times per day - the mix is enough for roughly 3 days you don't want to make it for more time it loses it's effect and there are plenty of other healthy perks along with it - I keep it refrigerated in a stainless steel thermos."

[YEA]04/25/2008: jill from Ft Lauderdale, FL replies: "Similar to The Blaster, I find that most fruit smoothies that include a banana when made in the Vita Mix are outstanding for keeping the heartburn at bay. I used to suffer daily before I started making these awesome high fiber drinks, soups and ice creams. I use bananas, oranges, apples, carrots, and cooked sweet potatoes mostly but I will usually add whatever I have on hand. I used the following link which included a coupon code for free shipping https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/stores/4/index.aspx?COUPON=06-003085"

[NAY]  02/25/2007: Dana from Columbus, OH writes: "OK, 10 years ago Iwas diagnosed with gerd. meds didn't help. natural cures unknown to me. had surgery. called Nissen Fundo. the top of the stomach is wrapped either 180 or 360 degrees around bottom of esophagus. It took care of gerd but other major problems developed. Barely left house in 10 years. Please say NO TO GERD SURGERY.
The problem is that there is a good chance of vagus nerve being damaged. Google "nissen fundo wikipedia" and get the facts. Click on each complication. Impossible to find a surgeon to reverse. Did research on doc at cleveland clinic. He's the head of thoracic surgery and does 2-3 nissen repairs per week and did research article on why the surgery doesn't work. Not sure if i can have it reversed. Start taking hoodia tomorrow b/c i can only function if i don't eat. If remedies don't help you may also have a hiatal hernia. when you wake take a glass of water and jump 3 times. Look into other cures for hernia. praying works."

05/29/2008: Gina from Austin, Texas replies: "Hi, I am curious as to how you are doing at the present time and if you have found relief after the GERD Surgery. Also, what complications have you had that has kept you home bound. I too had that surgery and have had various ailments. I would appreciate any other info. Thanks & God Bless You, Gina"

[YEA]  06/14/2008: Ross from Vancouver, BC Canada writes: "I used Ibuprofin for at least 20 years ( Ate them like candy.Thought they were like crack for pain) Then I developed Reflux. Tried everything. Until I stopped taking any NSAIDS there was no respite. What has worked for me is boiled ginger root tea, strained and kept cool, after a meal.(3oz). This has really helped me and the reflux is now barely noticable. I now use tramadol and Tylenol for pain. ( I have diabetic neropathy (sp?) so I need some relief for that). No connection with those painkillers, but definitely with Ibuprofin."

06/17/2008: Chris from Fort Worth, TX replies: "Oh PLEASE get off of the Tramadol!!!! Though no one will tell you, It is a highly addictive pain killer! Research before its too late!"

GINGER ALE

1 YEA

[YEA]  Douglas from Toronto, Ontario writes: "This is my dad's remedy. One day I had heartburn and my dad suggested drinking ginger ale. With the equivalent of only two tablespoons worth, the heartburn was gone instantly. I hope he isn't too upset with my sharing of his remedy. Also, it is a theory of mine that heartburn can be cured with any kind of pop or carbonated beverage."

GINGER OR CAYENNE PEPPER

1 YEA

[YEA]  01/02/2008: Jaci from Fremont, CA writes: "Guess what I just learned. Instead of trying to calm the acid in our stomachs, it is timing of production of the acid. By taking a thumbnail amount of ginger (even if you chew and spit it out) before and after your meal, or cayanne pepper, it will release the acid so it can do it's job and get out of the stomach. And for healing the esophagus take 70% slippery elm back powder and licorice powder and mix in water till a consistancy of light oatmeal. Take a tablespoon every hour. This heals the esophagus. I leaned this from a master herbalist. you can buy the combination already made by calling 1-888-372-4372 (http://www.drchristophersherbshop.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/index.html)'if you don't have access to it at your health food store. Good Luck!"

GUM

1 YEA

[YEA]  05/08/2006: Christopher from North Kingston, RI writes: "Both me and my brother have acid reflux. I have had it for about 7 yrs. now. We joke about it and our families have come to know it as "the ninja" -- it sneaks up on us and is deadly!!! So far the best remedy for me has been winter fresh gum. Everyone thinks we're crazy but it gives instant relief. i'm so surprised to read about everyone's version of "acid reflux". i wish my doctor could experience the same symptoms."

HIGH ALTITUDES

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/20/2008: Rick from Cictoria, BC, Canada writes: "I recently went to live for three weeks at very high altitude, in Ecuador. During my stay my reflux went completely. I found I could even drink alcohol and wonderful local coffee. My symptoms gradually returned about eight weeks after my return. My work involves a certain amount of forward bending so I could be aggravating my symptoms and causing acid reflux with bending. However I do also wonder if the altitude, 8,500 feet to 12,000 feet, contributed to my temporary recovery. Higher altitudes have totally different bacterial fauna and lower oxygen levels. My bodies' physiology had to adapt; with a faster heart rate and thus altered vagal nerve activity for example. Perhaps some of the readers would like to comment."

HOT PEPPERS

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE INHALATION

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/15/2007: Jonna from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Lately I have been having a hell of a time with digestive issues. Not sure what is going on -- it may be that I am eating way too much hormone injected chicken and turkey now that I moved in with my partner, who has to eat meat at least once a day or he gets sick. On the other hand, I ate a Trader Joe's garlic naan last week at home with a homemade curry and woke up to extreme abdominal pain and brain fog. Second time that happened with the naan, will have to check the ingredients next time I go. So perhaps I am allergic to wheat now. I don't know. At any rate, after a week of snail's pace recovery with Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda, molasses, etc., I decided to a) eat vegetarian and b) do Bill Munro's h202 inhalation therapy. I started the peroxide therapy yesterday at about noon. By 8pm the brain fog that I have had for a week disappeared. This morning, exactly 24 hours later, my digestive tract finally feels back to normal. No more abdominal pain. I did 6 pumps of 3% h202 (drugstore brand) every 2- 3 hours. I think eating only rice and vegetables the last few days was helpful too."

ICE CUBES

1 YEA

[YEA]  06/04/2006: Harout from San Fernando Valley, CA writes: "I have been told by my dad that swallowing bit and pieces of crushed ice does the cure as a natural home remedy for acid reflex and heart burn. Although my throat was burning like crazy, after being waken up twice in the middle of the night, I went to my refrigerator and filled up a cup of crushed ice. than I started to swallow a lot of crushed ice pieces. It took about 10 minutes and the acid in me was gone. I did not experience acid reflux that night again after swallowing a lot of crushed ice. Try it it will work. It cools down the burning and also makes the acid less concentrated in your body. Over-all the swallowing crushed ice method works. If anyone experiences heart burn or acid reflux, swallow crushed ice, it works! Attempt to swallow the ice at a reasonable size to avoid difficulty and discomfort of swallowing. But further more the best defense (in my opinion) is not to eat after 5 or 6 PM. The average person's metabolism slows down during night which can increase the chances of acid reflux or heartburn when you sleep. avoid late night eating, and boost up the metabolism by getting on some kind of exercise program. It can be as simple as walking around your neighborhood."

JUICING

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/20/2008: T from Dumont, NJ writes: "After a long battle, first with prescriptions, then with nearly every suggestion made here on Earth Clinic, I have finally defeated Acid Reflux by juicing. (I love Earth Clinic, & many of the suggestions here helped, but juicing seemed to resolve my problem.) I improved after juicing for the first time and now, after several months, I can eat anything (except I still avoid chocolate, coffee, & excessive sugar). At my worst, even a single mouthful of any food would set off symptoms. I couldn't lie flat for almost a year. I was up all night many times. I had symptoms of a hiatal hernia as well as reflux. Before I started trying natural remedies, I was on 80 mg/day of Nexium with little relief and discontinued when I started seeing blood in my stools.

A typical juice may have kale, carrots, ginger, cucumber, celery, zucchini (+ maybe 1/2 beet or apple). Be creative but don't overdo it with fruits or sugary veggies.

I also eat oatmeal (soluble fiber acts as prebiotic) w/ cayenne, virgin coconut oil. I eat papayas too. I found baking soda in water at bedtime controlled symptoms when I still had them. These things helped but juicing was the key to conquering. Make small quantities (1 glass or less) and sip. If you are prone to constipation, don't drink too much and take a fiber supplement. If you don't have a juicer, some healthfood stores make fresh juice blends by the glass (again, avoid the sugary blends). My juicer cost about $75 and has been well worth it. One more thing- in my experience, there is no substitute for the nutrition of real, whole food. I have had a pretty healthy diet for a couple of years but never was able to consume the quantity & variety of raw veggies I get w/ juicing."

LEMONS

5 YEA

[YEA]  03/16/2007: Eileen from Sacramento, CA USA writes: "I have long suffered from stomach problems and acid reflux. I stumbled on a cure by accident. It is called the Lemonade Fast and is apparently pretty ancient. I just wanted it for an easy fast and cleanse. Into 10 ounces water, mix in 2 Tablespoons good grade B maple syrup (for minerals) and 1/8th of a teaspoon cayenne pepper. Sounds awful but actually it gets to be quite delicious. You want to drink 6 to 10 of these a day and any other water or mild herb tea like peppermint. I did the full 10 days, way too long, but what I noticed was that not only was my ulcer cured but gum disease seemed to be cured too. They must be related. Eileen"
