[YEA] 01/14/2007: Gabi from Czestochowa, Poland writes: "I have comments on Acid Reflux. I suffered for many years using as a treatment over counter remedies, whatever people advised me, etc. nothing was helping. It was life in a hell. My acid reflux was so strong that it was getting into my throat and I was chocking on it! It was usually causing inflammations combine with high fever like bad case of bronchitis or pneumonia. the last three years my acid reflux joined forces with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and bleeding stomach ulcer (had only 2 episodes of bleeding ulcer).Family doctor told me that there is no cure for it and I have to start learning how to live with it!It forced me to look for cure on my own. I discover that main reason was diet. I was eating healthy but... I did change everything in one day and week later... That's right! Just one week later ALL symptoms were gone! I removed from my diet all products made of flour, all carbohydrates.
I was eating undercooked vegetables, fish, healthy oils, yogurt. Adding spoon of yogurt to jar of milk I was making soured milk. Lot, lot of cabbage, cauliflower and brocooli. I know that main think is to keep PH balanced. It means nothing acid forming! I don't take acidophilus. Yogurt and soured milk do the trick. To keep good level of that friendly bacteria (is expelled from your body every day!) learn to eat sour kraut. Eat it raw or cooked. Add to your diet a lot of lemons. Stomach ulcer, IBM &Acid Reflux are gone. Oil Pulling was another great "tool". Arthritic pain was gone in 10 days. Swollen joints needed almost a year to get back to normal state. Now I eat VEGAN diet and I feel great! I look much younger and my energy level is high"
11/16/2007: Joyce from Joelton, TN replies: "To Gabi (11/14/07) from Czetochowa, Poland It sounds like you were eating good - but were still eating white bread? If so, try eating l00% whole grain bread and see if your problems return. When trying to eliminate bleached flour products from the diet, you must really exercise your common sense. My brother told me it didn't work. I then pointed out to him that the chicken noodle soup he had just eaten about 30 minutes before, probably had bleached flour noodles in it. Another fellow told me that getting bleached flour out of his diet didn't work. Qestioning brought out "Ive been eating the hell out of saltine crackers" which were made with bleached flour. Most soups, gravies and lots of other foods are thickened with bleached flour."

[YEA] 01/04/2007: Diane from Long Beach, NY writes: "I used to eat a high fiber, low fat diet (norm robillard's low carb approach). The gas started to build over several months resulting in terrible stomach pains after every evening meal. My cholesterol shot up as well. I decided to get rid of the high fiber breads and cereals. I don't eat dairy. After a few days, my gas decreased and I didn't need my aciphex for gerd anymore. When I cheat, I get gas and reflux. Also, my cholesterol dropped back to normal. My diet is vegetables, some protein, small amounts of fruit, some nuts. I walk almost everyday and use a recumbent bike on rainy days. Sugar in any form is the worst High carbs are sugar. Bread in any form makes my reflux worse. I can cheat but not everyday. I was able to take my bed off its blocks back to ground level and could also lay down after eating."

[YEA] 12/27/2006: Margaret from Eugene, OR writes: "My heartburn and acid reflux were getting worse and worse, then I was diagnosed with type II diabetes. After reading about 20 books I decided low carb was the way to go so I didn't need to take any meds. After switching to a very low carb diet, not only was my blood sugar in control and I started losing about a pound a week, unexpectedly my acid reflux totally disappeared as well as most of my body aches. It's seriously scary the ADA recommends diabetics eat carbs for diabetes -- pretty much dooms them to needing meds all of which have side effects. One article I read (recent Men's Health Magazine article) likened it to the American Heart Association recommending we eat trans fats."

[YEA] 11/08/2006: Patrick from Kenosha, WI writes: "Change of diet- no diet food or fake foods..All WHOLE as possible!! This will cure Acid Reflux-migraines!! www.msgmyth.com www.truthinlabeling.com Please read: they can save you from so much pain!! (MSG) MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE is the problem. They add more and more into food every year. The BIG food companies know about it and try to hide it under secrete names as "flavorings" even "natural flavor"!! Look up MSG on the web site. It will open your eyes!"

[YEA] 10/06/2006: Moira from Topeka, Kansas writes: "To All: All acid reducers, PPH's, steroids, allergy meds, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents compromise digestion. Protein is the hardest to digest, so it's logical to assume reactions to high protein foods, like eggs, etc would occur while on certain meds. Stop all meds - eat 6 small, healthy meals - no alcohol, coffee or citrus, exercise and find a homeopathic procedure that might soothe you, like ACV, Aloe, whatever, but just try one at a time for 3 or 4 weeks. Reduce stress, get tons of fresh air, laugh more, think good thoughts. Be patient, you will heal and get better. Oh, yeah, stay away from doctors."

[YEA] 09/17/2006: Joe from Oak Forest, IL writes: "I don't know why, but whenever I am (able) to stay on a low carb diet, my GERD goes away, I sleep better, my skin improves, etc. And......this is when I am eating all I want, and even late at night. I'm not sure why this works, but I thought I was the only one. (Nexium works great, but I bloat with water weight gain.)"

[YEA] 09/15/2006: Cliff from Dallas, TX writes: "Less food volume intake per meal. More light snacking. Organic foods preferred. Never lay down after eating for 2-3 hours. Has not cured GERD, but has reduced symptoms significantly."

[YEA] 09/14/2006: Charmaine from Peekskill, NY writes: "No eating or drinking rich beverages after 8pm and always brush and or gargle before going to bed. Also cut down on fatty foods and coffee. I think the prevalence of GERD is related to ubiquitous coffee shops and the resulting increase in consumption of coffee."

[YEA] 08/24/2006: Glenn from Aliso Viejo, CA writes: "Acid Reflux is caused by the over consumption of processed and cooked foods. The quickest way to solve the problem is to STOP eating processed cereals, especially ones with processed flakes or nuggets). Things like Raisin Brank, Captain Crunch, any cereal where the main ingredient is a processed substance. This does NOT apply to things like raw oats, raw nuts, etc."

[YEA] 08/04/2006: Amiee from Eastern Passage, NS writes: "I had been wheat-free for 7 months and my gas, acid-reflux and psoriasis went away. When you are on a wheat-free diet, it can cause other problems like constipation if you do not watch your fiber intake. I am now off the wheat-free diet and all has returned. I will be going back on the wheat-free diet ASAP."

[YEA] 05/03/2006: Kathleen from Gulfport, FL writes: "Mine is not so much a remedy, but a prevention. After being on a low-fat diet for several weeks, I noticed that all my acid reflux symptoms had disappeared. I can eat any of the foods that normally triggered acid reflux as long as I keep my fat intake to no more than 10% of my calories. When I change this eating routine, the acid reflux comes back, especially at night."

[YEA] Gurt writes: "I did research in medical journals over gerd/acid reflux since it was causing some health problems. What I found was that carbonated drinks build pressure in the stomach pushing the acid back into the throat. I drink one carbonated drink mid-morning then juice, water and decaf-tea during the remaining day. I also found that caffeine relaxes the muscle that becomes weak with gerd. It was a slow process to cut back on the caffeinated drinks and caffeine but now I am feeling so much better."

[YEA] Sherry from Orlando, FL writes: "I'had acid reflux for 2 yrs. and when I went on the Atkins Diet, I never even expected such a sudden cure! I then went to the Atkins Online forum and did a search about acid reflux to see if others had the same experience on this diet. AMAZING! I found other people on the forum saying their acid reflux is gone too as a result of this low carb diet. I realized that the HIGH CARBS were the CAUSE of the GERD ALL ALONG!! As I type this, I know I will sleep just fine again tonight as a result of this discovery!!! I can only hope that this helps others who are suffering."

[NAY] Nancy from Agoura Hills, CA writes: "I have never taken much ibuprofen, but I have been a rather regular user of Excedrin in the past (aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine). I don't take it anymore. My GERD started after I had been on a lo-carb diet for about 5 months. I had never had trouble before. I think the high fat/high protein diet wasn't the best thing for GERD. I went off the diet immediately, but the GERD never left (it's been two years now). Just for your information. I am not overweight and I exercise daily."

[YEA] 06/12/2007: Bouy from Winnipeg, Canada writes: "I am one of thousands that has acid reflex. I was provide a presciption from my doctor that said I would have to be on it forever. The drugs did not cure this condition, so I looked for a natural way of relieving this condition. I have tried the apple cider viniger, and it did work for me. But, I have also found that digestive enzymes have been my answer. I use a -complete- formula that helps digest all your food. I have tested them for two months with extreme success. I hope this info will help others. Good Luck and lets get natural."

[YEA] 05/16/2007: Roxanne from Ft. Lauderdale, FL writes: "Always sleep on your left side, so stomach acids don't drain into your stomach. Start taking good natural digestive enzymes to break down the food that is rotting and stuck in your small intestine area. This gets things moving and the acid reflux stops. Also get lots of fiber or take capsules of psyllium with a big glass of water before bed. Stay away from antacids that stop the acid that your body is creating to try to break down the rotting foods. Just keep it all moving away from the top end and out the bottom end. Drink plenty of water! :)"

[YEA] 05/08/2007: Israel from Austin, Texas writes: "I was diagnosed with Acid reflux two years ago at 27. I was given that (blue red)pill, but I like others realized that once i was off it, my acid reflux came back. I am not 100% sure what has caused it but have narrowed it down to the intake of soda as a youth. I am intrested to find the correlation between the extra large sized drink given out by fast food restraunts and the increased case of acid-reflux. Did the case increase upon their introduction? As for possible cure's I have tried a few...the best results came with digestive enzymes...I also tried goat milk which did alright but I am lactose intolerant...I have also read about a type of yogurt, helps that was popular in the 60's, but I don't know the name, if anyone knows what I am talking about please post the name. It has a natural way of stabilizing the digestive cultures in our system. Avoid grease, spice, and acids...especially vinegar...and eat slow...that is the biggest adjustment that has helped me...eat really, slow and smaller portions.."

[YEA] 08/26/2006: Jonathan from Memphis, TN writes: "I tried the ACV with honey and it worked some, but did not last. The pickle juice helped some, but again not lasting. I read on another website where people had success with digestive enzymes and aloe vera gel. I went to GNC and they said many customers like an enzyme formula plus Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria along with aloe vera liquid. They said that acid reflux often stems from a lack of enzyme activity. These enzymes also contain betaine hydrochloride to increase stomach acid. I was on Protonix for a while, but I didn't like the way it made me feel. I decided to stop it and try the enzymes instead. These have absolutely cured my reflux!! I take two per meal and have been able to eat whatever I want. They are easy to break open if you don't want to try and swallow the capsules. I break them open and mix them with a glass of water before I eat. Don't worry, it doesn't taste bad at all! GNC even suggested sprinkling them in yogurt, milk, or directly on your food. I also take 2 ounces of aloe vera liquid each night. I wanted to share my success so that you may have the same relief I have. I'm glad I don't have to sit up in bed at night anymore! Best wishes!"
