DIGESTIVE ENZYMES, APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 07/28/2009: Nora from New York, New York writes: "After being diagnosed with acid reflux I used digestive enzymes for several months with limited success. I added acv (2T in a glass of water 3 times a day) which seemed to totally relieve the symptoms of coughing and excess acid for several months. I never get heartburn, rather I get a raspy cough and a croaky voice and acid in the back of my throat. From one day to the next, the acv stopped working and I increased the dosage (while still taking digestive enzymes) to no avail. I was recently diagnosed with bronchitis and was given anti biotics and am currently taking 150mg of ranitidine twice daily and 40 mg of omeprazole once a day which is slowly reversing the cough and excess acid and calming my system. in all of the acv cures I've encountered no one seems to differentiate between a person who produces too much acid and a person who produces too little and isn't that an important distinction? Also, can't too much acv produce its opposite effect? Most sufferers seem to produce too little acid and I believe I ended up created an internal environment that produced way too much acid and led to bronchitis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, particularly because I would like to wean myself off the drugs I'm taking. Thanks"

Egg yolk -- try to use twice a week but every day use warm milk [whole milk works better] and one teaspoon of honey for three to four days. Once I use this, I don't get the acid reflux for more than six months or so. Trust me I have tried so many things but nothing works like milk and honey. I have never try the AVC. I will try it."

[YEA] 07/17/2007: Michael from Plainfield, Illinois writes: "I was fighting Acid Reflux for over 45 Years I've tried every pill and formula out there and read every book on the market. I have one remedy that works for me. I call it the Blaster I got it out of a juicing book and it will keep the fire from starting 90% of the time. I use a Vita-Mix blender and put in 2 glasses of filtered water - 1 Banana - 1 Mango - 1/2 Papaya - 1 large slice of pinapple- 1 orange - I blend it into a drink and drink a 8 oz glass 2 times per day - the mix is enough for roughly 3 days you don't want to make it for more time it loses it's effect and there are plenty of other healthy perks along with it - I keep it refrigerated in a stainless steel thermos."
[YEA] 04/25/2008: jill from Ft Lauderdale, FL replies: "Similar to The Blaster, I find that most fruit smoothies that include a banana when made in the Vita Mix are outstanding for keeping the heartburn at bay. I used to suffer daily before I started making these awesome high fiber drinks, soups and ice creams. I use bananas, oranges, apples, carrots, and cooked sweet potatoes mostly but I will usually add whatever I have on hand. I used the following link which included a coupon code for free shipping https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/stores/4/index.aspx?COUPON=06-003085"

1 SIDE EFFECT
[SIDE EFFECTS] 07/27/2009: Micaela from Lincoln, Nebraska writes: "I take 40 MG of pantoprazole daily for GERD; and though it helps, I am wondering if it could be contributing to gout-like symptoms? Does anyone else report similar findings? The symptoms are: itching and burning sensations at the ends of my toes and arms. Sometimes a numbness in the legs. The sensations come on in the middle of the night and wake me to the point that I cannot get back to sleep. I thought that maybe too many carbs might be causing this, but now I am wondering. I am looking at a more alkaline diet to see if that might help. What do you think, could it be the meds? Thanks."
09/06/2009: Ficofico from Ny, Ny, Usa replies: "you may be experiencing polyneuropathy by lack of vit B12. the acid in the stomach is needed for the vit B12 to be absorbed and excess of carbohydrates aggravate the vit b12 deficiency because the body prioritize its use for processing the carbohydrates if there is few vit b12 and to much carbohydrates."

[NAY] 02/25/2007: Dana from Columbus, OH writes: "OK, 10 years ago Iwas diagnosed with gerd. meds didn't help. natural cures unknown to me. had surgery. called Nissen Fundo. the top of the stomach is wrapped either 180 or 360 degrees around bottom of esophagus. It took care of gerd but other major problems developed. Barely left house in 10 years. Please say NO TO GERD SURGERY.
The problem is that there is a good chance of vagus nerve being damaged. Google "nissen fundo wikipedia" and get the facts. Click on each complication. Impossible to find a surgeon to reverse. Did research on doc at cleveland clinic. He's the head of thoracic surgery and does 2-3 nissen repairs per week and did research article on why the surgery doesn't work. Not sure if i can have it reversed. Start taking hoodia tomorrow b/c i can only function if i don't eat. If remedies don't help you may also have a hiatal hernia. when you wake take a glass of water and jump 3 times. Look into other cures for hernia. praying works."
05/29/2008: Gina from Austin, Texas replies: "Hi, I am curious as to how you are doing at the present time and if you have found relief after the GERD Surgery. Also, what complications have you had that has kept you home bound. I too had that surgery and have had various ailments. I would appreciate any other info. Thanks & God Bless You, Gina"

[YEA] 09/23/2009: Darijan from Zagreb, Hr, Croatia writes: "I would like to add Yes for GINGER.
I suffered from Acid reflux for nine months, tried almost everything, was on NEXIUM too, I did not have chest pain but throat pain, and ginger tea was the most spectacular discovery! Now I drink several glasses of ginger tea daily and the pain is now much much weaker. Nothing I tried before ever made so much difference.
Therefore, strongly recommend ginger.
I buy a fresh one, peel it off, cut it in small pieces and just spill hot water over it, just like I would do with any other tea.
Anyway, that worked out for me. Pain is not completely gone yet (I drink it for three days only) but life became much more bearable since I started.
Good luck to all of you!"

[YEA] 06/14/2008: Ross from Vancouver, BC Canada writes: "I used Ibuprofin for at least 20 years ( Ate them like candy.Thought they were like crack for pain) Then I developed Reflux. Tried everything. Until I stopped taking any NSAIDS there was no respite. What has worked for me is boiled ginger root tea, strained and kept cool, after a meal.(3oz). This has really helped me and the reflux is now barely noticable. I now use tramadol and Tylenol for pain. ( I have diabetic neropathy (sp?) so I need some relief for that). No connection with those painkillers, but definitely with Ibuprofin."
06/17/2008: Chris from Fort Worth, TX replies: "Oh PLEASE get off of the Tramadol!!!! Though no one will tell you, It is a highly addictive pain killer! Research before its too late!"

With the equivalent of only two tablespoons worth, the heartburn was gone instantly. I hope he isn't too upset with my sharing of his remedy. Also, it is a theory of mine that heartburn can be cured with any kind of pop or carbonated beverage."

[YEA] 01/02/2008: Jaci from Fremont, CA writes: "Guess what I just learned. Instead of trying to calm the acid in our stomachs, it is timing of production of the acid. By taking a thumbnail amount of ginger (even if you chew and spit it out) before and after your meal, or cayanne pepper, it will release the acid so it can do it's job and get out of the stomach. And for healing the esophagus take 70% slippery elm back powder and licorice powder and mix in water till a consistancy of light oatmeal. Take a tablespoon every hour. This heals the esophagus. I leaned this from a master herbalist. you can buy the combination already made by calling 1-888-372-4372 (http://www.drchristophersherbshop.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/index.html)'if you don't have access to it at your health food store. Good Luck!"

Then I remembered a little Chinese waitress who told me, if you want to have great sex eat no meat or after dinner drink several cups of green tea it neutralizes stomach acid.
After every meal I have had at least 3 cups of green tea as dark as possible.
I have also programmed my body for acid to be where God intended it to be. Told my acid: "You must stay where you should and no where else"
I sleep nicely and acid is no longer a problem. I keep a bottle with strong green tea on my night table."

[YEA] 04/20/2008: Rick from Cictoria, BC, Canada writes: "I recently went to live for three weeks at very high altitude, in Ecuador. During my stay my reflux went completely. I found I could even drink alcohol and wonderful local coffee. My symptoms gradually returned about eight weeks after my return. My work involves a certain amount of forward bending so I could be aggravating my symptoms and causing acid reflux with bending. However I do also wonder if the altitude, 8,500 feet to 12,000 feet, contributed to my temporary recovery. Higher altitudes have totally different bacterial fauna and lower oxygen levels. My bodies' physiology had to adapt; with a faster heart rate and thus altered vagal nerve activity for example. Perhaps some of the readers would like to comment."

[YEA] 09/15/2007: Jonna from Los Angeles, CA writes: "Lately I have been having a hell of a time with digestive issues. Not sure what is going on -- it may be that I am eating way too much hormone injected chicken and turkey now that I moved in with my partner, who has to eat meat at least once a day or he gets sick. On the other hand, I ate a Trader Joe's garlic naan last week at home with a homemade curry and woke up to extreme abdominal pain and brain fog. Second time that happened with the naan, will have to check the ingredients next time I go. So perhaps I am allergic to wheat now. I don't know. At any rate, after a week of snail's pace recovery with Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda, molasses, etc., I decided to a) eat vegetarian and b) do Bill Munro's h202 inhalation therapy. I started the peroxide therapy yesterday at about noon. By 8pm the brain fog that I have had for a week disappeared. This morning, exactly 24 hours later, my digestive tract finally feels back to normal. No more abdominal pain. I did 6 pumps of 3% h202 (drugstore brand) every 2- 3 hours. I think eating only rice and vegetables the last few days was helpful too."

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE, ACV AND BAKING SODA
[YEA] 04/24/2009: Lynn from Mt Healthy, Ohio writes: "well it's almost 3a.m. but I had to post this remedy in case someone else is suffering. SEVERE acid reflux is much worse, it feels like I just trisd to drink battery acid. It's very painful and is sometimes accompanied with spitting up blood. I've had this happen before only to suffer with it for hours and wondering if it was going to kill me. This time I took the spray bottle I keep in my bathroom loaded with 4oz. of hydrogen peroxide (drugstore brand ok) per 24oz. of purified water to brush my teeth with and sprayed enough to gargle (the same could be done with a cup of purified water and a tblsp of peroxide-don't swallow) and the relief was instant. Keep brushing, gargling, andspitting out into the sink until pain subsides you will cough up the acid-good-get rid of it. Then take a cup of purified water, mix 1 tbsp acv + one fourth/one half tsp. ORGANIC baking soda (I have to watch my budget too but using small amnts. for internal help is still cost effective), I keep it in an air tight jar on the counter, and sip. The bs will make you burp alot but you'll feel much better. Well, it's almost 3:30 am so I'm going back to sleep now. GOD BLESS"

[YEA] 06/04/2006: Harout from San Fernando Valley, CA writes: "I have been told by my dad that swallowing bit and pieces of crushed ice does the cure as a natural home remedy for acid reflex and heart burn. Although my throat was burning like crazy, after being waken up twice in the middle of the night, I went to my refrigerator and filled up a cup of crushed ice. than I started to swallow a lot of crushed ice pieces. It took about 10 minutes and the acid in me was gone. I did not experience acid reflux that night again after swallowing a lot of crushed ice. Try it it will work. It cools down the burning and also makes the acid less concentrated in your body. Over-all the swallowing crushed ice method works. If anyone experiences heart burn or acid reflux, swallow crushed ice, it works! Attempt to swallow the ice at a reasonable size to avoid difficulty and discomfort of swallowing. But further more the best defense (in my opinion) is not to eat after 5 or 6 PM. The average person's metabolism slows down during night which can increase the chances of acid reflux or heartburn when you sleep. avoid late night eating, and boost up the metabolism by getting on some kind of exercise program. It can be as simple as walking around your neighborhood."

[YEA] 01/26/2009: Brad from Los Angeles, CA writes: "I used to get regular heartburn. I was young, only 23 years old, and healthy. I got to the point where i was eating TUMS regularly, and using over he counter meds. I went to my doctor, and he prescribed Prevacid. I think i may have had the beginning of an ulcer. Anyways, i had mixed results with the Prevacid, and was uncomfortable taking a pill every day (forever?). I started to change my diet, more healthy, more fruits and vegetabless, and accidentally found that carrot juice will knock out the burn immediately. And plus when you do that you are drinking vegetables too with vitamins, fiber, etc. Nowadays, I have no heartburn meds in my house, and when my stomach burns, which is very rare, a cup of carrot juice just kills it. Forget the pills, work on changing your diet, and keep some carrot juice around. You cant overdose on it, the more you drink, the better for your body."

[YEA] 01/26/2009: Marcela from Mexico, Mexico writes: "My husband and his family have used raw potato juice for acid reflux and gastritis for years. And it has worked for everyone we've recommended it to. It is not an everyday kind of treatment, they only use it when they finally abuse their tummies too much with spicy or greasy diets on a long term. Then they use it for a week or so and they go back to normal. It consists of throwing a small raw potato in the juicer along with some carrots, for taste. Drink it right away or it will darken and not taste as good (I guess it also loses some properties with oxidation). One of these juices every morning for a week seems to do the trick.
BTW, My 83 yr old mother-in-law can eat ANYTHING (and I'm talking greasy, spicy mexican food here) and be fine. Thank you for this site, I plan to contribute feedback for many of your wonderful remedies."
