LICORICE ROOT EXTRACT

7 YEA
2 WARNINGS!

[YEA]  11/20/2008: Betsy from Santa Fe, NM writes: "Thank you all for your comments regarding ACV and GERD. I have had this annoying problem for a couple of years now. My nurse practitioner suggested using DGL or"Deglycyrrhizinated" Licorice Root Extract. It is available from several different companies at any local health food store. It is not a cure, but it is very soothing. Two tablets in the morning keeps acid reflux away all day for me, but I will try ACV too. Will report back...Thanks!"

[YEA]  12/30/2006: Sandi from La Mesa, CA writes: "DGL (licorice supplements) Important to use dgl and not just licorice, which can raise blood pressure. Cured my acid reflux. Immediately got rid of acid reflux symptoms with the first tablet. Still working pretty well, but it seems to also be important to discover food sensitivities for ongoing cure. It's ongoing use of 800 milogram ibuprofen contributed to acid reflux."

[YEA]  04/10/2006: Deirdre from Los Angeles, CA writes: "I haven't had an issue with acid reflux until this past weekend when I over-ate (mostly thick chunks of bread) at a dinner party on Friday night. 3 hours later I had intense burning and pain in my upper right intestinal tract, just under my liver/gallbladder. When the pain and burning spread to my entire upper intestinal tract and didn't ease up after 48 hours, I decided to research some home remedies for gastritis. I ended up buying chewable DGL (licorice root extract) at Whole Foods last night... I knew it was great for healing ulcers, why not gastritis?! I chewed two tablets and within 30 minutes, the burning and pain had stopped. Today I am almost back to 100% (just a slight sensation of burning). I hope other people will give this supplement a shot for acid reflux. DGL supports the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract. One more thing -- Licorice Root Extract raises blood pressure, but DGL is licorice root extract without the compound that raises blood pressure -- glycyrrhizin -- so you can take it every day supposedly, 20 minutes before a meal."

[WARNING!]  08/12/2008: Sherry from Longview, Washington replies: "Licorice (the herb not the candy) cannot be taken safely for very long. It causes high blood pressure. I have found licorice root in diet teas and women's remedy teas used as a dieretic. Taken any longer than 6 days or so can cause health issues. I made the mistake years ago of drinking a dieter's tea after my evening meal for over a year. I had never had a problem with high blood pressure before but after a year on that tea my blood pressure sky rocketed and I felt horrible. As soon as I stopped the tea my blood pressure went back down to normal."

[YEA]  09/02/2008: Katie from Chicago, IL replies: "I have had moderate success with DGL wafers. It is the glycyrrhizic acid that is the cause of most of the side effects of licorice, including high blood pressure. Therefore, DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) which has had the glycyrrhizic acid removed is thought to be much safer. As with any herbal, exercise caution and seek the advice of a medical professional who has experience with herbs."

LUGOL'S IODINE

1 YEA

[YEA]  01/04/2009: David from Huntington Beach, California, USA writes: "Hi, I'm a Chiropractor of over 22 years. I want to add a cure that I got from reading Dr. Donsbach, D.C.

My wife and I found as we got older that we were both starting to have digestive problems and really bad acid reflux at nite. The wholist concept is acid reflux is due to NOT ENOUGH acid! You can confirm if this is the case by taking a tablespoon of ACV when you are getting it, if it stops it, then you are LOW in acid.

The next step in the wholistic approach is to take digestive enzymes and HCl to substitute for the low acid. I always thought this isn't getting to the root problem of WHY isn't the body producing enough acid anymore. This is where Dr Donsbach came in.

He discussed that the body needs IODINE to produce the stomach acid. That made sense in that since becoming a Vegetarian, I don't get much seafood and I keep my salt intake down.

So I ordered Lugol's Solution;
http://www.amazon.com/Breath-Life-Lugols-Iodine-Solution/dp/B001AEFM9Y/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1231093911&sr=8-1

and began taking 2 drops a day in a glass of warm water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, monday through friday with the weekend off. My wife did the same. Sure enough within a few weeks my digestion is back to where it was as a teenager, and acid reflux is gone! My wife had the same results as well as a friend that tried it.

If you go to take the iodine, first make sure you aren't allergic. I think a drop on the inside of the wrist or arm and see if it gets swollen or itchy, is a good test. After that, if no reaction, then you can start with one drop in water and see how that effects you. If you have no problems then you can proceed to the 2 drops.

I've been trying to get this information out there, because when people take antacids and medicines that decrease acid production in the stomach, it greatly limits the bodies ability to digest the food, and starts a process that ends up greatly harming your health.

If the word can get out about this cure, it will help millions to improve their health for less than a penny a day and prevent them from ruining their health as they are trying to help it.

Good luck and please write your feedback here so others can see.

Best wishes for health and happiness,
David from H.B. "

MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE

2 YEA

[YEA]  10/26/2009: Diane from Boston, Ma writes: "Hi -

I had to post about this remedy that I discovered - Magnesium Chloride (in liquid form) 2 teaspoons 3 times a day completely gets rid of all my acid reflux symptoms. It's amazing! I actually started taking magnesium chloride at my naturopath's recommendation for sleep (and it does help me to have a good night's sleep and makes me feel more relaxed as well).

Please try the Magnesium Chloride! It works wonders!!"

[YEA]  06/11/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "There is a case where the Acid reflux remedy DOES NOT work using the baking soda remedy or any alkaline remedy, regardless of whether it is baking soda, sodium citrate, or potassium citrate. The remedy that works the best is simply the magnesium chloride. The dose I have found to be about 250-500 mg taken three times a day in one warm cup of water. The magnesium was designed to protect against the toxicity of the excitotoxins, which occur from monosodium glutamate, aspartame, aspartic acid, for example. It's effect in relieving the acid reflux is almost instant upon taking the first dose, but almost a complete stoppage of acid reflux may occur after three days to seven days. In event there is a vitamin B deficiency some additional stopping of acid reflux may occur with just once a week of B50 taken only a couple of times. This is one of the fastes acid reflux remedy I have found. An addition of clove oil one drop stirred in a 1/2 glass of water will also help in a few cases.

Ted"

MANGOSTEEN JUICE

[YEA]  04/25/2006: Carla from Ohio writes: "i'am currently trying the mangosteen remedy (very expensive Xango). The xango is helping me with everything. i had bad headaches, no energy dry skin back aches, toe nail discoloration, smoke too many cigarettes and the list goes on. I feel 500 percent better. although i think i am going to try the apple cider remedy. i was reading the part (nays, i believe) where the people where getting sick or not working or whatever and i wanted to let people know that everyone's bodies are different and every person may need a different dosage. if a person gets sick from a remedy they need to start off with a lower dosage and work their way up. the body cannot deal with a new strange thing entering and taking over. healthy for you or not. introduce yourself and work your way up. some people need to start off twice a week for a couple of weeks then add more and more to your diet until you met your needs. some people every other day and so on and so forth. don't give up and good luck!"

[YEA]  Lanniece from Reading, PA writes: "I have had GERD (reflux disease) for six years now. I started taking ranitidine and then quickly worked my way up to nexium from 20mg a day to 40mg a day. Even on 40mg a day, I still had signs of persistent GERD in the form of chest pain. I read about MANGOSTEEN, a natural fruit juice that is becoming more popular and decided to try it for its general health purposes. I did not expect that it would keep me off of my nexium!!! I take 2 -3 1 oz shot glass size drinks a day and I have not taken my nexium since October...it is now February! If I miss a day, I do feel it. But I feel great not taking the prescribed medication."

MINT

3 YEA

[YEA]  11/15/2006: Abigail from Ypsilanti, MI writes: "I spent 2 years fighting acid reflux. I ate antacids like candy til the doctor put me on Zantac, then I started taking those like candy. Finally, my pastor gave me some dried mint leaves and told me to steep 1 teaspoon in a cup of water and drink. One cup a day for a week. By the second day I hadn't had an attack. By the end of the week I threw away my Zantac. The tea was only used for a week as it was. After about 1 month the erosion was healed and it would be 4 years before I would have heartburn again. I drink the tea and have no more problems. I use vinegar once or twice a year if I get heartburn again but the tea did a total turn around. None of my doctors believe I used to have acid reflux. Note: the mint used can even be the kind you find on the spice rack at the local grocery store."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES

2 YEA
2 NAY

[YEA]  10/05/2009: Jllerenas from Los Angeles, Ca writes: "If your going to use ACV, please use RAW apple cider that contains enzymes to aid in digestion. But it's not a cure, as claimed here but therapeutic. Indeed, it worked well for me, but not a cure. I also tried 3 apples a day (6months), and that too was even less therapeutic. Some people mistakenly confuse Sleep Apnea/GERD/Celiac disease/H.pylori/Ulcers because the symptoms are all very similar. Find out what you have from a doctor. To my surprise, my doctor diagnosed me with GERD, me thinking Sleep Apnea.

For what ever reason(s), doing the following has helped me: Sleep on your back with head & shoulder at slight incline -pillows are fine, eating figs(high in manganese, pectin, calcium), eating papaya, and finally cabbage, has had a 95% episode reduction for me(i hope 100%; more time to know fully -3months so far). I used to suffer every night waking up gasping for breath, and now I never do. Also, I try to have at least 1 serving of the foods I've mentioned every day. Cultured cabbage is a great way to get natural probiotics. Eat whole foods, not synthetic over the counter pills or pharmaceutical pill that introduce side effects. BTW: Lots of oatmeal and grains seem to stimulate my acid reflux, but that indicates a gluten intolerance (mild Celiac disease?). I wanted to post this since this website had helped me during my quest for natural healing."

[NAY]  04/22/2009: Shobha from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India writes: "I think that I have night reflux, as I get up with a coating on my tongue and a sore throat on my right side. Have tried ACV, baking soda, apples and nothing has helped so far. After eating, my stomach feels full and heavy, like its weighted down, and the feeling takes a long while to settle. Is this due to excess acidity or lack of acid for digestion? Could anyone help me? Thank you for letting me share my problem."

04/23/2009: Jen from L.A., CA, USA replies: "Hi Shobha, I work in the field of sleep disorders medicine and I have many patient that suffer from nighttime (only) reflux and many of them suffer from snoring and or Sleep Apnea (pauses in breathing or shallow breathing). The snoring/Apnea is an obstruction in the airway makes the person's breathing effort increase, however since the airway is compromised and narrowed it causes a "sucking-up" of the acid from the stomach into the throat when the person tries to breathe... Allot of these patients sleep at an incline with several pillows or a wedge. If you snore or have been told that you make breathing sounds or pauses in breathing while sleeping you should have it evaluated. Good luck."

04/23/2009: Selena from Chula, GA replies: "Hi, My response if for Shobha from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India and any other acid reflux sufferers. Before we married, my husband suffered from a severe case of acid reflux. He had to sleep on his right side propped up on pillows. He took "the purple pill" religiously after going through several other well-known "acid-reducing" meds, that one by one became ineffective as he graduated to a stronger medicine. I have always been opposed to these meds because most people suffer from too little acid and not too much acid, so taking medicines to further lower their stomach acids sounded quite "stupid" and dangerous. If you reduce your stomach acid, then your body can not break down your food for energy and nutrition. Then slowly you begin to get all kinds of health problems bascially due to "malnutrtion" and deficiencies. Kind of like starving yourself to death but with lots of bloat, constipation, and allergies and without the weight loss. Oh you'll still have all the fat broken down and stored on your hips and gut, but you won't be able to break down protein into amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of life. Without them your body cannot reproduce new blood cells, muscle tissue, etc. Anyway, back to my husband. Whenever I would try to convince him of the harm he was doing to himself, we would always end up in an argument over it. Finally, Thank God, he started his own company and lost his "company provided health insurance" that paid for a majority of his meds. When he went to refill his prescripton and they told him it was $80 for a month's supply, he turned finally turned to me to help "fix" him the natural way. I put him on a yeast-free-diet and oregano oil capsules. Basically he avoided all simple carbs (white rice, white flour products, all fermented foods and beverages, fungus foods like mushrooms, etc.) He followed the diet Mon-Fri about 95% but on the weekends he cheated alot. In less than 2 months he lost around 15 lbs and his acid reflux. No more meds needed. No more propping on pillows at night while laying on his right side. He could even bend over to wash the bottom of his car without acid coming up in his throat. That was 6 years ago. He rarely gets heartburn now unless he has been over-indulging in beer or refined carbs. And when he does get it, he uses about 1/2 tsp. baking soda in water to relieve it. No more "magic pills" for him. I suggest everyone using this stuff to do some research on the side-effects of it. You are slowly killing yourself. Proton pump inhibitors inhibit a lot more than acid production."

[YEA]  10/31/2008: Su from Nairobi, Kenya writes: "I had serious acid reflux and went the whole whack endoscopy, colonoscopy, etc also had gastrointestinal bleeding. Hpylori was the culprit so I was put on the antibiotic treatment and nexium for a month after wards. I got a little better then lapsed again into same condition. I discovered apple cider vinegar and was pleasantly suprised to see it worked for others for the acid reflux. I also discovered soda water, simple and effective for the reflux as well as green apples, eaten as needed when acid build up began.............use soda water or green apples.

I'm intolerant to berries, any berries fresh and even in jams, chocolate, coffee, tea etc

Now tryin hydrogen peroxide, 20 drops in half a glass of water on an empty stomach in the morning and before I slepp. It seems to work. No acid reflux. Excersise helps alot too. I run and swim. 5 minutes into running and no more acid reflux.

I'm still experimenting. Deep breathing and relaxing also help..........I feel when I am stressed I crunch my torso and disrupt the normal space of my stomach as well as tense my jaw and neck. I;m not fat, slimmish . I used to be on my feet most of the day, my problems started when my job entailed I spent alot of time sitting behind a desk and driving..............I blame the change in posture and pressure on my stomach when sitting alot. I also tend to forget to eat and only notice when the acid builds up...........am trying now to listen to my do body more and eat drink and excersise before the acid reflux symptoms.........Sometimes I win and have no problems for days , then I forget and slip back into the vicious cycle again. Anyone know if the hydrogen peoxide is dangerous long term?"

[NAY]  08/11/2008: J L from Oregon, Ohio writes: "i've had acid reflux/gerdfor about 15 years. currently taking prevecid. wanted to try natural. went with acv with baking soda, aaloe vera, digestive enzymes, and papaya. even tried apples. my symptoms are very bad especially at nite. i eat very little and coffee and or alchohol doesn't seem to make much difference. ive been doing this for 10 days im about ready to start taking the pills again.i eat oatmeal for am and cereal for lunch then dinner no fast food or eating out ever. i put 2 tb acv into 1cup water with 1/4 tsp baking soda and some honey. the other capsules were as directed. the problem i have is i hate to pay my doc 75.00 just to write me a scrip. so im trying much more expensive natural approach. maybe it takes longer than 2 weeks. miserable and wanting my previcid JL"

04/16/2009: GerdGuy from Yokohama, Japan replies: "I noticed that oatmeal is part of your daily meal. I used to eat that also in trying to make a diet to ease my hypertension; and at the same time fighting with gerd. However, I noticed that eating oatmeal makes me feel bloated and full and later on vomit. But when I stop eating oatmeal, that feeling is gone. So I suggest you take off oatmeal from your diet. Hope this helps."

04/17/2009: Lynn G from Columbia, Maryland, USA replies: "To JL in Oregon, OH. You said, "i eat oatmeal for am and cereal for lunch then dinner..." You also said you don't eat much.

I am now 62 and had acid reflux (GERD) for a lot longer (my entire adult life) than you've had it. I finally figured out about 20 months ago that I have a gluten sensitivity. I removed all grains (except for occasional servings of organic brown rice) from my diet. Wheat, oatmeal, and barley are the most common sources of gluten in the Standard American Diet (the SAD). I had taken proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs for 8 to 9 years. Before that I took bucket-loads-full of antacids (Tums and the like) for many years. I no longer have any acid reflux problems, and haven't taken any acid-suppressing drugs or remedies for most of the last 20 months. (It took about several weeks on my gluten-free diet for the reflux symptoms to gradually disappear.)

First of all, your high-cereal diet is probably causing you all kinds of problems, not the least of which is lack of adequate macronutrients (proteins and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Second of all, have you considered that you might possibly have a subclinical form of gluten sensitivity? Suppressing your stomach acid in the belief that this will alleviate acid reflux is a dangerous belief, propagated, of course, by mainstream allopathic doctors. And, suppressing stomach acid has dangerous side effects, the most prominent one being the inability to properly digest food and absorb the micronutrients that are so extremely important. In my case (as a post-menopausal female), the PPI drugs caused me to develop some bone loss (osteopenia) due to lack of absorbing enough minerals. A very dangerous side-effect, indeed (also for males).

Given your (apparently) high intake of gluten-containing foods, and the severity of your acid reflux symptoms, my suggestion is to eliminate gluten foods for at least six weeks and find out whether you see significant improvement. At the same time, you should increase animal-based proteins and fats (from organic, pasture-raised animals, if possible), and add digestive enzymes to every meal. (If you don't eat animal-based foods, that is, you eat a "vegetarian diet," then eliminating gluten-containing foods gets a lot more complicated). If you want to contact me for further information about how I cured myself, here is my e-mail address: rightwriter46lggmailcom."
