With the rise of natural health solutions, many people with high blood sugar are turning towards home remedies and supplements to manage their condition alongside conventional treatments. This article delves into effective natural supplements and home remedies, including the benefits of apple cider vinegar, for blood sugar control.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels after meals. To harness its benefits, incorporate a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into a glass of water and drink it before meals.

2. Cinnamon

A sprinkle of cinnamon not only adds flavor to your dishes and can significantly reduce blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Aim for one to two teaspoons per day, either added to meals or taken as a supplement.

3. Chromium Supplements

Chromium is essential for fat and carbohydrate metabolism and may enhance insulin sensitivity, helping to control blood sugar. Before starting chromium supplements, consult a healthcare professional for the right dosage.

4. Magnesium

Magnesium deficiency is linked to higher blood sugar levels and insulin resistance. Consider incorporating magnesium-rich foods into your diet, such as leafy greens and nuts, or take a magnesium supplement after consulting with your doctor.

5. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are high in soluble fiber, which helps lower blood sugar by slowing down carbohydrate digestion and absorption. Soaked fenugreek seeds or powdered supplements can be an effective remedy for blood sugar management.

6. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera juice has been shown to help lower fasting blood sugar levels. Its compounds help enhance insulin sensitivity and improve blood sugar management. Start with a small dose to ensure tolerance.

7. Berberine

A powerful supplement extracted from several plants, berberine effectively lowers blood sugar levels and improves glucose metabolism. It works similarly to some diabetic medications and can be a potent addition.

8. Green Tea

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and supports healthy blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity. Regular consumption of green tea can aid in metabolic health and may reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

9. Bitter Melon

Bitter melon contains three active substances with anti-diabetic properties that help lower blood sugar levels. It can be consumed as a vegetable, juice, or supplement.

10. Dietary Fiber Supplements

Adding a fiber supplement such as psyllium husk can aid in blood sugar control by slowing the absorption of sugar. Incorporating more fiber into your diet is also beneficial for overall digestive health.

I have taken Acv for a week now. My blood sugar has dropped from high 200's to between 90 and 120...I have lost 10 pounds in a week! Amazing! To protect my teeth, I use a straw and the Acv doesn't get in contact with my teeth. So grateful!

I take 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey. It does not affect the sugar level. In this protocol, the key ingredients priority wise are ACV followed by Cinnamon and then honey. Try with or without honey and monitor the sugar readings. You should be able to answer your own question.

From preliminary information honey rises blood sugar. Personally I do not use honey. Also too much consumption of apple cider vinegar, has created health problems. Thus very moderate use of apple cider vinegar is reccomended.

Add a pinch of baking soda to the vinegar and it will keep from affecting your teeth but will still lower your blood sugar.

Your illustration is very scanty. You did not explain why you took the doses; maybe to treat type 2 diabetes. Also, we would want to know the severity of your case that made you take the much doses, how long it took to act or to stop the symptoms or cure it. Please, kindly elaborate.

Recently diagnosed as a Type 2. Used Gluc meter to test results of Metaformin and then Metaformin with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

Taking 500mg of Metaformin in the morning and at night. Blood sugar 2 hrs. after the meal 110 - 115. In addition to Metaformin, if I take 2 TBS of ACV before the meal using a 1:5 ratio mixed with water, my blood sugar is 93 - 95 2hrs. after a meal.

Went without Metaformin and ACV at night and 3 hours after the meal, the blood sugar was 130. Before bed, took Metaformin and 2TBS of ACV. Morning reading before Breakfast was 86.

2 TBS of ACV before meals and bedtime is very effective at controlling my blood sugar. Before meals, it drives the 2 hour post reading down and additional 10 -15 points than when just using Metaformin. Before bedtime, I drives the blood sugar 20-30 points than when just using Metaformin.

Be careful not to drive your blood sugar too low using this before bedtime. I woke up one day with reading of 71. Find that balance point for yourself.

I am using apple vinegar + Lemon with glass of water in the morning first thing in the morning. In day time, half hour before food two table spoon with glass of water.

In night, two table spoon with glass of water before dinner just half hour before and half hour after the dinner at the bed time again with glass of water.

I am using since one week.

Result is, there is not much effect on diabetes but surely no more weakness. Diabetes is still high aroung 180 to 200 in fasting.

please suggest how to improve much.

Today is my first day on ACV. My post-prandial sugar was off the charts. I would hit 200's and come down slowly. My A1C has never been less than 6.6. Yesterday (2/11/15), my pp sugar was 172 after 2.5 hours. I also took one glipizide (5mg) before food and 1000 mg of metformin after.

I read about the benefits of ACV in this forum and buy the one with mother in it. Two spoons of ACV diluted and had before food. I also took metformin 500 mg before and after food. (Didn't want to stop suddenly) 1 hr after lunch sugar was 125.2 hrs after lunch, sugar was 118.3hrs later, sugar is 134. This tells me that sugar is being released slowly into the blood stream. Interestingly, I typically work out(not a lot) everyday. Today, I did not and still got this result. I can only imagine the effect, if I were to actually work out.

As an aside, how do you guys manage to drink ACV before lunch at work?

I am mainly using other nutrients for up-regulating metabolism; ALA, Magnesium Malate, CoQ10, Pantithine. One triple strength ACV daily is too much for my condition so I just take one tab occasionally. I never use the ACV liquid so I can't give any comparison, but I would recommend 1 triple strength ACV tab per day and slowly increase until desired effect.

Vinia, Apple Cider Vinegar should not be a problem with your meds. It won't negate their effect. But, since some people find ACV to improve their sugar situation, it could decrease your need for the medication. The safest thing to do would be to start small with the ACV. You don't want to suddenly have your sugars too low. So, try 1/2 t. in water once a day for a few days. Then take it twice a day. The next week, try 1 t. in water twice a day. The next week, try 1 1/2 t. in water twice a day, etc. Monitor how you feel and how your sugar is doing. Elaine

My blood glucose was 241 last night. I took three teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water, added two packs of stevia which is also suppose to lower blood sugar. I then exercised, nothing that big, but I invested in a kettlebell. $29 bucks. I did some kettle bell swings, a little arm work, you know, just enough to get my heart beating a little fast, but really I didnt do that much. I tested an hour later and my blood sugar was 121!! I couldnt believe it! I woke up this morning, tested and my blood sugar is 122!! Its been a long time since my blood sugar has been that low upon waking!! This will be my new routine every night!!

Thanks to the clarity and simple instruction Keely provided at 2:26 AM, with blood sugar showing 226 (non fasting), I took 3 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in 12 oz water with 1/2 packet of stevia. Then, at 4:23 AM, I checked my glucose again. It was down to 200. Slept from that time (no exercise) until 7:30 am and at 8:28 I tested fasting bs and found it at 138. AMAZING!!! Metformin can't touch this performance. THANKS Keely! I will keep this up and see how it goes over the next month.

I am a fan of using apple cider vinegar! I have never used it for back pain relief but I make a drink mixture weekly to use for my blood sugar. I am diabetic, and it helps to regulate blood sugar levels! I have a recipe that I think it pretty good and will taste better than the one listed here. Try this:

1 1/2 cup water

2 tablespoons raw Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Stevia packet

1 tablespoon on cinnamon

enjoy!

I am pre-diabetic who, with rampant diabetes on both sides of the family, has been monitoring my blood sugar faithfully, and several times a day for the past few months.

The main reason I was doing this was to see if anything other than a low carb diet would work to control my blood sugar. (So far, NO - except the ACV).

On a low carb diet (no more than 30 g of carbs per day = ketosis for the past 5 weeks) my daily blood sugar runs in a very strict band of 100-113. Some days I've tested it 5 times hoping it would fall ower. On a regular diet, my blood sugar is in the 90-175 range.

I've been taking 1 tsp ACV 3x/day for only two days and today my blood sugar has registered at 69 and 85.

Also, yesterday I started the Borax 1/8th tsp in a liter of water drunk throughout the day, so that may have contributed as well.

For the past week, I've been trying various remedies for chronic fatigue. I didn't take the ACV for my blood sugar but rather for increased energy (seems to be working) so only looked it up on Earth Clinic as regards blood sugar after realizing the dramatic drop.

If anything changes (I. E. sugars go up again as magically as they came down, I'll post an update.)

I have family history of diabetes so I watch my Blood Sugar too. I heard about ACV and for a month now I always take 2 tblspoon before I ate a roll or high carb bread. But today, I intentionally ate a cinnamon roll without ACV and one hour after my BS spikes to 170 and that freaked me -- normally with ACV, it was 110 an hour after eating that bread. So this morning I freaked because I understand that we should not go over 140. So I immediately took 2 tblspoons of organic ACV to drag the BS down and 55 mins after my BS read 114. I now decide to always have ACV before eat high carb bread because it obviously worked for me -- I am now a believer that ACV can help slash the sugar spike after carb eating. Good luck to all.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes some 2 years ago. I took prescription drugs for about 6months but stopped to depend on diet and exercise for my Blood Sugar control until I came upon this beautiful website. I call it beautiful cause it is amazingly rich with life saving informations.

I started taking 1table spoon of ACV twice a day for about 2months now and my Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) now averages at 115. I test my FBS every morning when I rise to prepare for work at about 6.00am. In addition I also test my Urine and saliva. My urine and Saliva has consistently stayed at Ph 6.0 and 6.2 respective.

Last week feeling that my body is acidic from the ph reading, I decided to alkalize by adding 1/4teaspoon of baking soda to my ACV. Suprisingly my Urine ph consistently stayed at 7.2, same as my saliva but my FBS went up and averaged at 160. I have stopped the addition of baking soda for the past three days and my FBS has returned to a healthy range. This morning I woke up with an FBS of 87 and urine ph of around 5.8

I am not able to explain the baking soda influence on my body pH and my Blood sugar. Please can someone help?

I am concerned with my pH level as I understand that it is not healthy to consistently have acid condition(I do not want to age that fast. I love my life at this time). Is there some other ways for me to alkalize fast without raising my FBS?.

God Bless you all contributors and thanks for all the beautiful work published on this website.

Answer to Myhealth from Warri, Delta, Nigeria about Sodium and increased Fasting Blood Sugar

Hi, From http://www.acu-cell.com/dis-hyp.html

"Many practitioners recommend nearly identical dietary lifestyles for people suffering from Low Blood Sugar (hypoglycemia), and diabetes (hyperglycemia), whereby adequate consumption of Protein and Fiber, as well as Sodium management, are important considerations to help improve sugar metabolism in both situations.

Sodium (salt) slows insulin response, which with diabetes contributes to poor blood sugar control, however some hypoglycemic individuals with no sodium sensitivity, aldosterone issues, and generally a disposition for low blood pressure can use sufficient sodium intake to their advantage, because it diminishes a quick rise and fall in insulin levels and subsequently reduces those dreaded blood sugar highs and lows they commonly experience."

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Therefore I would advice to reduce by half the baking soda and replace the removed portion with potassium citrate or bicarbonate. You will have to tweak it for better results.

I suspect it is related with excess uric acid which can cause high blood pressure and may induce later insulin resistance as some recent researches suggest. Ans some postulate that human react this way to acid uric (unlike most animals) as an evolution defense against too much potassium from vegetables inducing lower blood pressure.

Read some posts from Ted where he suggests BS with potassium citrate/bicarbonate. He might suggest a different ratio of sodium/potassium.

It is important to realize that not only the ratio sodium/potassium is important but also sodium/calcium, and calcium/magnesium. So a pH protocol would be preferable with a combination of several minerals.

Good Luck. Alain

I was recently diagnosed as a "borderline diabetic" and higher cholesterol and triglycerides than normal. Also going into the lovely stages of menopause. My hemoglobin test came back at 5.8 which is just short of the cut off point. At 6.0 you are considered a diabetic. I stopped eating junk food entirely and started exercising and testing my blood sugar three times a day (even though I was not told to do so). Both of my parents are diabetics and I was determined that this was NOT going to happen to me. I started taking 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar right before my lunch and supper. I was startled to see how drastically my blood sugars had come down in only 1 week. When I had my first "glucose" test my number was 121. 126 you are considered a diabetic. I have been testing my blood sugars for the last week and they are now running in the 70's - 90's. WOW! Just a note....there were a few times that my sugar dropped too low so make sure you eat enough of a proper balanced diet and make sure to have your snacks in between meals. I am going to wait one month before I have more blood work to see if it is working on cholesterol and triglycerides.

They are: triphala, and guggulu. Look them up. I buy them from a local shop in powder form and stir them into water and drink. It is quite nasty tasting but you get used to it. Blah... In response to Cheryl above. In my beginning stages of adult onset diabetes 1, I had more lows than highs. I would eat and for about an hour or two, I'd have high #'s, then crash to the lows. So I'm not so sure the lows you are having are actually attributed to the ACV. You need to be sure you have a glucometer (most drs. give them for free or u can find them online for free) and test many times troughout the day.

Apple Cider Vinegar - and all other acidic drinks (e.g., orange juice and lemon juice) - deactivate an enzyme, amylase, in the saliva. Amylase in the mouth splits food starches into glucose molecules, which can enter the blood stream immediately. (Amylase is also released by the pancreas and enters the small intestine later when the food finally arrives there.) The deactivation of amylase in the mouth might account for the lowering of blood sugar in individuals who drink ACV BEFORE a high-carb meal.

However, if you achieve lower blood sugar levels by taking ACV AFTER a meal, then there is obviously some other mechanism at work.

Please e-mail me and let me know.

Too much Apple Cider Vinegar can cause a loss of potassium, because if you notice you will lose a-lot of water weight while taking ACV, This will deplete Potassium & Sodium fairly quickly. I am a medical researcher & have used myself as a atudy for the last year & noticed very quickly of Potassium & Sodium Loss With Apple Cider Vinegar:

Symptoms Loss Potassium: Itchy Scalp, Tiredness, Irregular Blood Pressure & High Heart Rate Are Signs of Low Potassium,

Low Sodium: Leg Cramps, Very Weak & Tired, Low Blood Pressure.

Also when these are low I noticed worsening of allergies. So if you do take ACV for any Ailments make sure you take In more potassium & sea salt. ACV contains only a trace of Potassium. I take in Potassium Citrate 99 mg a day. Very Inexpensive. Too much ACV causes too much Hydrochloric Acid In the stomach so don't take too much. If you develop heartburn or acid reflux after taking ACV, you having taking too much & to reverse this take 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda. Good Luck!

Ten little yellow tablets later you'll feel great if this is the cause. I had to give up on the ACV until after the antibiotics. If I have a flare up now I eat a massive quantity of Plain Yogurt. ACV, a couple of dashes of cinnamon, and a packet (or teaspoon if you have the loose kind) of stevia make an amazing drink, tastes like apple pie in a glass, and it is really healthy. You get the benefit of the ACV and cinnamon plus a very tolerable taste with no added sugars. Hint - these are the ingredients in the 'apple cinnamon' drink the "famous ACV company" sells. It is yum, and $2 a bottle at the natural foods store, or pennies at home. Try it and test your glucose 1 hr later and let us know.
