"Candida is a genus of yeasts. Many species of this genus are endosymbionts of animal hosts including humans. While usually living as commensals, some Candida species have the potential to cause disease. Clinically, the most significant member of the genus is Candida albicans, which can cause infections (called candidiasis or thrush) in humans and other animals, especially in immunocompromised patients. Many Candida species are members of gut flora in animals, including C. albicans in mammalian hosts, whereas others live as endosymbionts in insect hosts.

The last decade has seen the sustained medical importance of opportunistic infections due to different Candida species mainly due to the worldwide increase in the number of immunocompromised patients, who are highly susceptible to opportunistic infections. Meanwhile, the genome sequence of several Candida species has been completed, enabling the detailed investigation of some aspects of their biology with the aid of post-genomic approaches. I developed an overgrowth of yeast that ended up breaking out all over my body in different rashes at different times. Nothing would make it go away. I tried silver. I tried creams . I went on 2 week cleanses and nothing worked untill I tried ACV. I read that this would kill yeast so I started to bathe in with a cup of it in my bathwater and i started to take 2 Tbs with 1/2 tbs, Baking soda with a little hot water and a dash of pure apple juice 3 times a day . Within a week, my rash's had cleared up. One more sore broke out the next week but I have been rash free for almost 3 weeks now and I am so gratefull. I then took Teds advise and took 250 ml of Magnesium Citrate, liquid for w 400 iu of Natural Vitamin E.Capsules and as he said, my body is cooling down. I barely have hot flashes anymore. All this incouraged me and I have totaly illiminated white floor & Sugar from my diet. I find myself giggleing now and feel so much lighter...Thank you so much"

I read Christa's (from Canada) message posted here after searching for a natural remedy for a white tongue (another symptom of a systemic yeast infection). I followed her regime of 2 Tbs with 1/2 tbs Baking soda with a little hot water and a dash of pure apple juice 3 times a day. Within five days my white tongue was rosy again. I started taking 400 iu of Natural Vitamin E.Capsules; I had already been taking the Magnesium 25ml per day, for the menopause. And I also stop the sugar. Wow! I have more energy, sleep better,and oh, my joints are not painful, another symptom! Thank you!!"

I experience heart palpitations that I believe might be caused by a recurrent candida problem (which I believe to be a complication of another problem), but ever since I started taking 250 mg of magnesium citrate before bed, the palpitations have ceased. Other symptoms of candida keep cropping back up, but magnesium stopped the rapid heartbeat problem very effectively!"

How am I supposed to eat protein if it is acidic? I have a difficult time digesting much of anything. If I eat some chicken another site says to eat protein meat so that the acids/chyme in the tummy will start producing so that I dont have such a hard time with digesting or to take Hcl. The acid needs carbonates (usually released by the pancreas) to neutralize the acid before released into our intestines. No one says how to know if you take HCL that your pancreas is releasing enough carbonates so no harm is being done to the intestines. Nobody ever gives directions except that you need to take HCL 45 min after you eat your protein.

I also have leaky gut and the acid will hurt my lining even more. Baking soda is fine to take with your meat if it doesn't make you dead thirsty and hands swell for hours afterwards like it did me but if I was taking it with my meat I would be neutralizing the acid used to digest my protein anyway. Directions like, wait two hours after eating your meat then take BS and then tell me why and if in those two hours the lining of my tummy has not been damaged even more.

When you folks give advice you really need to give more in depth information. Folks like me have been spending two hours a day or more on the internet for years trying to heal severe candida when we could be spending this time with are loved ones who I am sure really are sick of hearing about our diets, white mouth after eating anything that is not steamed veggies. This can be very hard on a relationship. I do love that this place is here, don't get me wrong but it can be so frustrating sometimes when all you can eat is food combined foods and very few of them at that. 12/19/2010: Dickens from Usa replies: "I agree it'd be easier if remedies were complete and easily summed up but keep in mind, this site is just regular people researching online and experimenting with what they find, like you, and reporting back here (especially when traditional medicine isn't working or is too expensive). If your candida and leaky gut is really severe and you need a lot of detailed info, it might be best to work with a local naturopath doctor of some sort (or even travel a little if need be). They do have a database of healers listed on this website (although its limited for WA).

As much as I wanted to be mad at at the person who made the post, I had to assume personal responsibility. While I agree in some cases more information is needed, "some turmeric" Well how much is some, 1 teaspoon? A tablespoon?

Plus a big thing to remember, most of these people who write in their remedies are not holistic professionals. They are just folks who are sick of being sick and traditional meds have not helped. Not to discount the fact their remedies may work very well for them, but not for you.

What I do is try the remedies that interest me, and leave the rest. I hope you cure your candida, from what I have read its a nasty condition that takes months to rid yourself of. Above all give the remedies a chance to work. It seems people who successfully remove candida are totally dedicated to some kind of routine. To me it makes sense to use an anti candida diet, eliminating refined foods, sugars, and even high sugar fruits. Good luck to you Cricket."

Concerning amounts and clearly laid references to remedies concerning fungus and candida, I wrote a clearly laid out remedy -- all based on Ted's remedies -- a while ago which got rid of my own systemic candida. As well, I have updated it to what I would use and am using now to keep clear of fungus problems and keep my body healthy. Here is the EarthClinic link to the remedies I used for candida:

When I had candida 5 years ago, I used all these remedies on a daily basis. Systemic candida is not easy to kill, and will take 6 months to a year to get rid of systemic candida particularly. So be patient.

To clear up misunderstandings about alkalizing with sodium bicarbonate -- You can use sodium bicarbonate on its own in half a glass of water. I use 1/2 tspn sodium bicarbonate in half a glass of water, but I'm a 200 lbs guy. If you're significantly smaller, then use 1/4 tspn Sodium Bicarbonate. Take this two or three times a day. Taking sodium bicarb on its own in half a glass of water cures acid reflux when taken 1/2 hour after eating(and the food is in the duodenum) as well as helps to alkalizes the blood.

And whether I use two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar, or use one squeezed lemon or use one squeezed lime I always add about 1/2 tspn Sodium Bicarbonate to the solution in half a glass of water. If you prefer, you can add the 1/2 tspn sodium bicarbonate to the ACV or lemon juice or lime juice in half a glass of water until the fizzing stops. By adding a little extra Sodium Bicarbonate(which is what I do), this buffers the final solution ensuring that the beneficial malate or citrate salts that form are in an alkaline solution. More beneficial. If you are taking these alkalizing remedies for candida -- always alkalize at least one hour before a meal and two hours after a meal to avoid interference with digestion at mealtimes(the exception here is if you have acid reflux).

I still use all these remedies regularly today -- they're good for other small problems as well. I'm over 60 years old and now candida free with no aches and pains, a good heart and I haven't been ill with flu, colds or anything for about the past 4 or 5 years."

I have tried almost every remedy on here for the past seven years, you name it I have tried it , researched, cross referenced , tried again. I have so much knowledge and have studies enough mycology reports to fill many of desks. I dont want this to be my life. Some things work some don't. I guess the most important thing to me in my life is my husband and this stuff has really taken up a lot of the creative space. I am a very strict eater and sometimes its easy and I know what to do but other times I worry because my husband is thin and a candida diet is hard to keep weight on him and carbs help with energy but are not aloud and protein is hard to digest and is acidic. I think clear when I have carbs and I feel stronger when I have protein but I don't very often anymore because of all the different answers. I just started Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda and I am trying not to get my hopes up. I digress.. I am here to say thank you for your words.... Blessings"

When I discovered that I had candida I had just moved to the Philippines, and so my diet changed anyway -- becoming more rice and fruit based. I only ever eat two meals a day, breakfast and diner, and have no problem with this. I eat no desserts and dislike sweet things. I don't eat junk food or drink much soda pop. I don't eat much red meat -- maybe a steak once a month now. My breakfast is large and fresh fruit based and my diner at night is quite small, like a snack really. But this is just me. Any candida sufferer must adopt a diet of their own choice and stick to it. This is a must and is all about breaking the bad dietary habits of a lifetime which has helped to promote and cause the candida in the first place. The best way is to avoid certain foods and products:

1. Absolutely NO SUGAR. No ifs or buts here -- if you really want to get rid of candida -- it starts here, this is a must!!

2. No junk food allowed.

3. No vegetable oil in the diet. Vegetable oil oxidises fairly quickly on the shelf and very rapidly at high heat. Most vegetable oils are also now made from an unnatural chemical process. Better to use virgin coconut oil for cooking -- this is a very stable oil that is very good for you. When I had candida and started taking coconut oil, my bad constipation and bloating issues disappeared in about two weeks. VCO is very healthy for your body and intestines. I only cook with VCO now and VCO has actually helped me to lose weight.

4. No soda pop. Apart from the sugar, soda drinks also contain carbonic and phosophoric acids -- all of which acidifies your body and encourages candida.

5. Eat only white meat like chicken or fish in small amounts and avoid red all meats.

6. No baking products like bread, cakes pastries etc. In the 70s or 80s the FDA, in the wisdom, allowed the use of bromide and bromates in bread-making and baking instead of iodine. Bromine weakens the immune system and also encourages candida growth. Strangely but happily, I recently learnt that bromides and bromates used in baking in the Philipines have always been banned. Well go figure...

7. No canned products in the diet. Bisphenol A -- or BPA -- is contained in all plastic linings of canned products and is very bad for you. Upsets hormone balance and weakens the immune system.

8. No Calcium which means no dairy products -- no milk, cheese, yoghurt etc. Avoid calcium fortified foods. Excess calcium encourages acidity and thereby aids the spread of candida.

9. No Monosodium Glutamate(MSG) allowed. This means that all soy products made from a chemical process -- including soy sauce, tofu etc. Are not allowed. Avoid all products with added MSG. But any soy products made from the natural fermentation process are OK and allowed in small amounts.

10. Avoid distilled water and tap-water. Distilled water is "dead water" -- it completely lacks any important body minerals that natural spring-water contains. Tap-water nowadays -- due to water shortages -- is now re-cycled and chemically processed from sewage(especially in cities), so Lord only knows what evil goodies tap-water contains. Enough said I think. Drink fresh mineral or spring water or create your own mineral water instead.

11. Try and avoid all (chemically) processed food if you can. Try and eat foods that are made from natural processes without excess heating or use of chemicals/pesticides.

12. When you eat food, don't always rush and over-stuff yourself, as this leads to poor, inefficient digestion and acid intestines. There is always a lag from when you feel hungry to when you are satisfied but if you eat too fast, this is not good for you. Eat your food slower and drink plenty of water at mealtimes for proper digestion. The Chinese -- and Okinawans -- normally eat until they feel 70-80% full, then they stop. This is also good simple dietary practice.

All the above precautions are purely to encourage a healthy body and to create an environment that is very bad for candida. Of course this diet must be adopted as well as Ted's anti-candida protocols for complete success to be assured against systemic candida."

No, betaine hydrochloride generates hydrochloric acid which would defeat the whole point of alkalizing if taken at the same time. Take betaine hydrochloride at mealtimes and alkalize outside mealtimes, this is what I do. I always alkalize at least one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal to avoid creating digestion problems.

I've just realized that the above explanation might confuse certain people who are taking baking soda for other reasons than alkalizing. So to clarify -- If you are taking sodium bicarbonate for acid reflux problems then you can use this in two ways. First, you can add a little -- 1/8 to 1/4 tspn baking soda -- to your drinking water at mealtimes to cut down on stomach acidity by reducing excess acidity from food like fruit, coffee etc. Another reason might be to take 1/4 tspn sodium bicarbonate in a half glass of water a half an hour after you have eaten your meal(when the food has all moved into the duodenum), this would help digestion by neutralizing the stomach acid chyme to slightly alkaline for efficient second stage digestion. This would also save the bicarbs in your pancreas which can then be used instead to alkalize the blood

There are many ways to use sodium bicarbonate, and alot of this has to do with timing, which can cause some confusion I think."

The minimum should be that you must at least take Ted's alkalizing remedies plus all the remedies that directly attack the candida fungus. Also, correct diet is essential and very important. I would love Ted to respond to the following when he has a moment and I am open to others imput as well. My intention is to cover all my bases with no misses. Thanks for all that respond

Attitude: Good usually

Current afflictions: Daily yeast infections and thrush effects marriage was told that my husband cant kiss for a year or we will keep up with reoccurance. Is this true? If so I guess this will never heal because we are mad about each other.

Treatment of hydrogen peroxide infusions at a center for 1 hour twice a week for four month's

Result : No changes

All azole meds have been tried for five month's

Result:Resistance even after rotation with Candida diet.

Oil pulling three month's

Result: clears thrush for the day but returns following morning.

Current :cell food :Magnesium citrate, high end probiotic with no fos, 2 tbs lemon juice with 1/4 tsp bs, white meat only once or twice a week(difficult to digest), cooked and raw veggies(limited on dressings as my enamel is almost gone and has extreme pain so no Apple Cider Vinegar on salads or lemon), almond milk rotated with coconut milk (unsweetened), Stopped taking stevia drops to avoid allergy reaction from to much use. Biotin 400, tried every natural antibiotic under the sun herbs ect... All met with resistance, l -glutimine. Also cilantro for metal detox. Anything missing that is inexspensive?

Info I need : My diet is more limited than most in flavor. What I typed is what I eat, seeds, veggies and a little meat. I stopped being able to continue this after four years. I had no energy. And my hair is thin and falls out frequently. Limited funds make me come to you, the think tank.

Things that I need:

1) (looking for a good b complex that is not acid forming if someone had advice for where to find one that does not contain nicinimide as this was advised to be a poor choice. Do I need a b complex still or will one specific b meet my needs.

2) I put cell food into a veggie cap to pass the teeth with no pain and I also do this with gse. My teeth were ruined by cell food held under the tongue and then swallowed followed by immense pain ( I understand that the mouth will show us how healthy we are but this was the outside enamel on healthy teeth effected on contact and has resulted in my not being able to have any avc or lemon unless in baking soda remedy.) My question is once the veggie cap I filled reaches my stomach, because its not diluted in water, will it hurt my mucosal lining ? I dont need more damage.

3) What can I do for minerals besides liver(liver not an option my body ejects it)??

4) Its been said their is conflicting ideas on nutritional yeast , some say it is dead and will not effect yeast while others disagree. I would love to have this option to eat again because I like the taste and it will give me an additional a seasoning option. Any supported evidence would be very helpful as I do not want to go back to nine years ago ??

5)Kumbucha is a no, no for obvious reason but what about cultured coconut water they now sell in the store, and rejuvilac (its base is wheat and this is usually a no go but is the water from it ok?)

6) I would love to add stevia back into my diet would this be ill-advised from your perspective ted?

7) Fat ::: Everyone says not to much coconut oil or oils in gen or fat , but this seems to be the only thing that keeps me from eating carbs. Is the fat intake really preventing my healing ?

8) Ketosis for several years is hard to prevent if you are unable to eat even complex carbs, quinoa ect with out outbreak. What do suggest on a food level to prevent further imbalance???

9) Ted , I have been told that other yeasts are cured and have assisted others on an emotional and informative level and they have gotten cured. Is there still hope for me?

10) My husband eats millet in the mornings because he is thin and cant work an eight hr day with out the carbs , I believe this is still why he has yeast even though he does food combine, is this true and is he giving it to me when we make love even if it is not visible on the outside of his body?

11) can I have eggs , some say egg whites while others claim only yolk should be consumed. No Yolk!

The main reasons which are hindering your cure for candida et al are because of the poor state of your teeth and gums and poor digestion caused by a weak or insufficient liver which is also causing apparent allergy problems.

The full regimen for the anti-candida protocol -- which is based on Ted from Bangkok's recommendations --is given in this comment stream. Just click on the heading of this comment -- "Need Advice Regarding Candida" -- and you will be taken to a page where you will find my comment with a link to both the full anti-candida protocol as well as the anti-candida diet that you should be following.

To improve your digestion, I would supplement with Betaine Hydrochloride as well as Pancreatin Enzymes -- taken with water before all meals. This will ensure proper digestion of all protein, carbohydrates and fats. Since you have a ketosis problem, you might well have a problem with carbohydrate digestion or this might also be due to a developing diabetes problem which also causes keto-acidosis. You should get this checked out and confirmed by a doctor.

The problem with your teeth has probably been caused by acid mouth due to both the oral candida as well as from acid waste from the plaque bacteria. You can brush your teeth with sodium bicarbonate - Baking Soda -- and sea salt or you can simply use Dr Gerald Judd's recommendation of just brushing your teeth with bar soap. The purpose of these protocols is help reduce the plaque bacteria and the candida biofilm formations in your mouth which tend to protect the candida and plaque bacteria.

Dr Judd, who researched teeth health for 18 years, says that using excess fluoride or eating acid foods are what weakens and destroys teeth -- not the candida or plaque bacteria (which tends to destroy the gums). In order for teeth to re-mineralize properly, you must therefore have alkaline saliva as well as minimal levels of plaque formation(no plaque bacteria). I use ordinary, unscented, no-addtive bar soap to brush my teeth together with an iodine or 3% hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. This has improved my own teeth health no end -- they are much whiter, stronger and better formed and I didn't have to go to he dentist for my yearly plaque scrap and de-gunk this year because plaque formation was minimal. Also, if you think you are allergic to something like lemon/lime plus BS or Stevia there is an easy test to confirm this. Just put a drop of the solution on your arm and leave it. If it causes redness or itching then you are allergic to that substance. If this does not happen, then you are probably suffering, instead, from a candida die-off or Herx reaction. Just cut back on the dose for a while, then build it back up later.

On everyone of them, vinegar is listed and yet I see in this thread that many of you have had success killing the candida by taking it internally. My drs. said that it can be diluted and applied topically but never taken internally to rid the candida. I am sooooo confused!!! Can anyone help explain this discrepancy???"

My tongue has turned pink, there is no itching etc. I am still feeling very tired in the afternoons but that most likely has to do with hypothyrodism. My understanding, from nutritionists, is that drinking liquids during meals dilutes the digestive enzymes and thus comprimises the digestive process. That one should rather not drink quality liquids for the period of 30 mins before, during and up to 30 mins after, a meal.

Can you maybe give me details of your theory?

Many years ago I tried that theory out because some people I met were doing it and they said they were better for it. What I found was that I was very thirsty and it certainly did not improve my health in fact my eczema got worse and migraines came more often so I stopped. The people I knew who started this appeared to improve in health but all (and I mean everyone of them) did not keep their good health. My belief is that their health initially improved because they also dropped junk food and improved their diet. Most people did not stick with it. The few I knew who did got sick. The 2 that were the reason I gave it a try lived in pain with only minimal sleep and 1 died in their 60s the other lived another 10 years in severe pain till they died. These 2 lovely people started this when they were in their early forties. You should ask the nutritionists that are recommending this for examples of people who have been following this regime for 20 years."

First thing, water improves digestion. If not enough water is drunk during meals, then digestion in the stomach becomes inefficient -- because the digestion in the stomach is too dry. As well, the enzymes in the stomach are not distributed evenly throughout the chyme or food in the stomach and so enzymes action becomes inefficient when there is not enough water taken with meals. And when this chyme passes into the duodenum for main stage digestion, and because the chyme is not as diluted and spread out as it should be, then the pancreatic juices cannot penetrate and neutralize all the acid chyme efficiently and pockets of acid in the digesting food continue to exist -- thus helping to encourage bacteria and cause acid intestines and many other problems later.

Secondly, there is an important measurement for the body, which Ted from Bangkok has mentioned many times -- called Conductivity. You normally measure the conductivity of your urine. If the urinary conductivity is too high, this indicates excess or too high a mineral concentration in the blood -- or a lack of water in your diet other words. If the conductivity is too low in the body to be effective -- then minerals are low in the body.

No one ever thinks about the proper concentrations necessary for minerals in water as a factor which helps metabolism. But this is indeed critical for the metabolic efficiency in the body. Digestion begins in the mouth. This is very important. Since I put proper chewing into practice, I found that I eat much less, and that I've become more lean and have more energy! Also my stomach is flatter, either from eating less, or from not being blocked up anymore. It's a very simple practice that everyone can improve upon. If you think you already chew enough, chew more! Perhaps this could have it's own remedy page...?"

Hi Ladies, I just wanted to share what worked for me in the hopes that what helped me can help you. I've been dealing with BV/Candida for about 15 years now - sheesh! My doctors tested me for AIDS, HIV, diabetes (oookay - Im 5'5", 115lbs) anything and everything. Went to naturopaths, tried absolutely everything - threelac, syntol - you name it. Went on special diets, ate garlic... Voodoo magic (not really, but I would have if it helped! ) Some things helped, some did things did nothing. Most things were a complete waste of money and I wasted ALOT of money. BV/Candida is such a curse!! Anyways, as you may already know BV/candida is triggered when the pH of your vagina gets out of whack - which means the pH becomes more alkaline. Sugar, diet, yes.. But the crux of the problem is pH. The vagina becomes more alkaline during sex (to make life more hospitable for sperms), this also happens during the menstral cycle. Once the pH rises, this paves the way for things to start to grow. So the KEY IS THE PH. This means keeping the vagina acidic - what it is naturally.

Here's what worked for me: I started off douching with ACV and hydrogen peroxide, but hydrogen peroxide kills all the good bacteria along with the bad (which can cause alot of problems) and I found it to be too disrupting. Id get rid of the BV, but cause a yeast infection instead. Plus my husband is a scientist and he tells me that extensive use of h202 on mucous membranes can be cancer-causing. So then I just stuck to ACV, with a suppository of lactobacillus for the vagina. So douche in the morning, vaginal suppository during the day/night and then - and this is the important part - I started drinking apple cider vinegar twice a day. Just a couple of teaspoons with water in the morning/evening and my BV/Candida problem has COMPLETELY CLEARED UP!!!! Im telling you its a miracle. Now, when I feel like I've got a problem, I start back on the ACV drinks and within 24 hours everything is gone.

This has been my experience and I told my girlfriend about this after she started having recurring yeast infections and everything cleared up for her straight away too. So I can only hope that you find the same relief!! Thanks, Rachelle"

I just want to know the brand of the lactobacillus you inserted to your vagina and the measurement you used in the Apple Cider Vinegar douche.

01/10/2012: Jackie from Shelby Township, Michigan, Usa: "I think I have a systemic fungal infection, since I take Tylenol Arthritis, seem tired, have a toenail and vaginal fungal infection, and have taken birth control and NSAIDs in the past.

I've read that Apple Cider Vinger can help with the fungus. How much should I take (along with water and honey as suggested by Braggs), considering that I must still take Tylenol Arthritis (2600mg a day) to treat a moderate athritis pain and inflammation. (I don't want the Tylenol to cancel out the goodness of the vinger. Also, do I need to use the treatment with the Apple Cider Vinger forever?

By the way, I have talked to my doctor, who wants me to take Lamisil. However, I don't want to jeopardize my liver and stomach with two medications -- Tylenol Arthritis and Lamisil.

Any help will be appreciated."

My doctor prescribed that to me as well, but I was uneasy in taking it because of high possibility of liver damage. Use the Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar in a soak. Soak your foot in apple cider vinegar (straight up) for 15 minutes at a time, 2-4 times daily. I had toe fungus, and it cleared up within a month of doing this. It may take longer, depending on how severe it is. Also, use a pair of toenail clippers only for this toe, cleaning it after every use. Trying to keep the nail short and cleaned as much as possible helps get rid of it. This worked for me, and I've gotten this twice since being prescribed for Lamisil. And it saved my liver! Good luck!"

I began drinking this and not only did I get terrible acid reflux but I also had a terrible kidney infection along with a UTI. I'm not sure if this was the cause but my kidneys hurt very bad and still do too often to be normal. I am battling with what I just found out as a very bad case of Candida Yeast as well as low thyroid and my adrenal glands are so flat they basically aren't working. I read that yeast can make your acid and alkaline rise in your body. Should I stay away from this? Thank you, God bless, Katie."

I take ACV and I am trying to make my daughter take it as well for her candida symptoms but that's her argument; that she is not supposed to ingest vinegar. Well I have google ACV for candida and it is a big yes! Here is a copy of one the sites I went:

The recommendation to avoid fermented foods and vinegar in order to cure candida is misleading. I believe it comes from the desire to avoid moldy foods and fermented yeasty beverages like beer and wine.
Mold aggravates candida symptoms and alcohol is a yeast fermentation product, where, in some cases, yeasts can still be present in the beverage. Some people feel it's best to avoid yeast in any form when following a candida diet (but that's for another page altogether).

Alcohol is a waste product of yeasts eating sugar. The reason it's best to avoid alcohol when doing a natural candida cure diet is because the candida yeasts excrete alcohol as a byproduct of sugar metabolism, which contribute to the feelings of brain fog, lack of coordination, fatigue and muscle weakness. We don't want to add even more alcohol to a body which is already a little "drunk".

Note: That's why my candida recipes are all low carbohydrate; carbohydrates are sugars. Sugars feed candida. Candida produces alcohol as a waste product of eating the sugars.

Alcohol and vinegar both go through a fermentation process, in fact, vinegar is made from alcohol!

But they're not the same. Just as mold and naturally fermented sauerkraut are quite different from each other.

In very simplified terms - Wine is made from fruit juice which has undergone a yeast fermentation, where the yeasts ferment the sugars into alcohol. Making vinegar from wine involves another fermentation process, called acetobacter fermentation. Acetobacter is a kind of bacteria which converts alcohol into acetic acid (the major component in vinegar).

By the time something has been fermented into vinegar, there are no more yeasts or sugars to worry about.

Along the same fermentation lines as apple cider vinegar (and therefore similar in its benefits) is sauerkraut that has been fermented by lactic acid bacteria. Cabbage is one of the easiest vegetables to ferment, as its naturally loaded with lactic acid bacteria.

Sauerkraut is sour because the bacteria has fermented the sugars in the cabbage. It's the same reason vinegar tastes sour. Fermented foods like vinegar and sauerkraut are not at all like wine, beer, or mold.

Stay away from mold whenever possible."

You are probably thunking of baking powder, which is a mixture of baking soda, cream of tartar and a neutral starch such as corn starch. You may be able to find some gluten-free baking powders made with potato starch to use in baking. As far as any remedies though baking soda has no corn in it."

Including corn. I recently learned baking soda contained or was made from corn when I had a horrible reaction to some gluten free cookies and for the life of me could not figure out the reason. Baking soda.. Was the reason. So, I highly highly suspect I have candida. The amount of classic symptoms I have are too many, including severe digestion and sinus issues since I was a little girl. Severe is an understatement. Chronic fatigue, ear issues, sore throats and recently severe lack of focus and much fogginess. Can This Ted person recommend a substitute for the cure containing baking soda... Please.. For a desperate person. I know Candida causes allergies, but we cannot cure it if I have a severe allergic reaction to the baking soda first.. And my intestines severely and catastrophically shut down, which is what typically happens. Also this boric acid, peroxide face thing. I cannot find a recipe for this or a step by step on how you are supposed to use it. (Recent red marks on face which seem to be a reaction to EVERYTHING... Sunscreen, powder, any type of makeup, face wash.. Etc. )"

I would know because I have bad reactions to all gluten sources. Go do some research and you will see, corn is gluten-free.... It sounds like you have a mild case of rosacea. Try Ted's recipe of 50/50 of Borax and Hydrogen Peroxide to kill the human demodex mites. We all have these mites but those who naturally have oilier skin seem to be an ideal host for this parasite.

I have used the following routine which cleared up rosacea in less than a week. My face was full of blackheads, whiteheads, puspules, after I had a stressful minor accident or around PMS. My face felt like I had a sunburn with minor itching, especially on my cheeks. I've always had flare ups on my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) but noticed blackheads spreading on my cheeks. Benzoyl Peroxide did not help - it caused more flaky skin - dry and oily skin at the same time. Also, my eyes felt like there was always something in it - like a eyelash or grit. One eye was puffy especially in the morning.

My doctor prescribed Topical Metronidazole and to wash with a mild beauty bar soap. Also to wear sunscreen daily.

Day 1: Evening at Bedtime: Topical Metronidazole (0.75%) all over the face including eyebrows and eye lashes, and eye lids. Effect: Felt tingling for less than 5 minutes then nothing. Slept a very deep and restful sleep.

Morning Day 2: Red flushing of cheeks gone. Washed face with mild beauty bar, as directed by my doctor. Skin felt and looked better than the day before. Applied Topical Metronidazole all over. Applied a light mineral powder for makeup coverage.

Evening Day 2: By dinnertime, face was quite an unpleasant greasy feeling but the redness was subsiding but new pimples appeared but looked like they were healing except for one. According to the lifecycle of the human demodex mite, this was normal - the immune system is trying to fight the mite as the mite is dying off in large quantities. That evening, washed face just with the beauty bar twice in a couple of hours. Then applied the Topical Metronidazole at bedtime. No tingling on cheeks but, boy, the eyebrows, eyelashes, and eye lids felt like things were hopping! Washed face again with beauty bar and reapplied Topical Metronidazole with minor tingling (less than before so it was washed off).

Morning Day 3: Washed face with beauty bar. Applied Topical Metronidazole. Found Ted's recommendation of 50/50 borax and hydrogen peroxide. Washed face with this mixture - cupped hand with the borax and poured H2O2 on it and scrubbed face. Let stand for about 5-10 minutes. Wow! My face felt quite clean and refreshed. Small red dots are disappearing. Large pores are shrinking. Oil on pores appears more normal. Minimized blackheads (extracted some)

Evening Day 3: Washed face with Ted's 50/50 Borax & H2O2. Then followed by the moisturizing beauty bar restoring pH level. Applied Topical Metronidazole at bedtime, again, very active around the eyebrows, eyelids, and eyelashes. Do not put directly in the eye - just a light film all over the eye area -

Morning Day 4: Had a warm, soak bath with water and 1/2cup borax, 1/2cup H2O2. Bathed and soaked head too. Washed hair with Sensitve Skin Shampoo (containing sulphur - must be active ingredient). Rinsed. Skin is very soft and subtle.

Now the routine is this:

Morning - Wash with 50/50 Borax & H2O2 then follow with the beauty bar soap. Apply sunscreen & light coverup makeup, if required. Wear a hat on sunny days.

Evening - Wash with 50/50 Borax & H2O2 then follow with the beauty bar soap. Apply Topical Metronidazole at bedtime.

Weekly - Bathe in borax & H202 in tub.

Diet - I didn't change diet. It's a high fiber diet following the Canada's Food Guide. One cup of coffee, water, green tea and occassionally a carbonated mineral water. Occasional glass of red wine or one beer - no more than that at mealtime. Everyday multivitamin. Looking into Apple Cider Vinegar to improve digestion and pH balance.

Exercise - at minimum 30 minutes daily.

Laundry - wash loads with Borax and laundry soap with 1/2 cup of vinegar scented with lavendar oil as the fabric softener. Wash bed linens once or twice weekly. Change pillowcase daily. Change facecloth daily and body towel every other day.

I've found that Ted's Solution expediated the process with amazing results along side with what my doctor prescribed me.

Also, my home, & car environment:

1) I've always used Borax in my laundry routine, mostly for the whites & underwear load. Will definitely use it for all loads especially bed linens, towels, etc.

2) Washing the bathroom with borax with great results compared to filmy, cholrine-based products (nicer on your hands, for the sensitive skin type!)

3) Why stop at the bathroom, the kitchen looks and feels fantastic!

4) Trying dusting with a microcloth with diluted borax and water I use 15mL borax+1L water. Vacuum often (at least 1-3 times a week).

5) No residue on hardwood floors.

6) Borax and hot water in spray bottle - lightly spraying the mattresses, leather sofa, carpets,etc. Test small inconspicuous area first.

7) Borax is a great cleaning agent for the car interior.

8) Change the furnace air filter monthly. Use a mattress cover on every bed.

9) Get rid of clutter - collects too much dust, especially where you sleep - don't forget the kids rooms too. Put things in labelled boxes and get them out when you want to use them. Otherwise, give away. Speeds up the cleaning routine and is motivating!

10) Last, but most importantly, wash the telephone, computer, light switches, etc. where we share each other's space.

I feel like I have more energy. The general malaise is disappearing (even though I was trying to take care of myself and family with good food & exercise. Everyone else was benefiting except for me). Since I'm getting my sleep, I noticed a decrease in stress (or my ability to cope). Less stress is less havoc on my digestive system. General well-being is improving.

Keep up with this routine as the Human Demodex mite life cycle lasts quite awhile until you feel it's in check. The Human Demodex mite is passed on and is normal (just like dust mites) so please don't obsess, just be informed that this microns have a lifecycle and we just have to keep things in check. The website, ____ was helpful in viewing photos of the gradual process that some people may experience as well as the life cycle of the human demodex mite.

If you are having ill effects, such as but not limited to: weight loss or gain, hair loss, cancer, tooth loss, brittle bones or respiratory problems, or even brain tumors, please listen closely. I learned the hard way that the water there is contaminated. If it happens that you have a fairly shallow well into the Arapaho aquifer or if you are on the Sage Water Users Assoc. there, that's your problem. We had perchlorate (rocket fuel) in our water (4 times higher than the theoretical "safe" level), along with fluoride, nitrates, high sodium, high calcium and heaven knows what else. I tried to tell everyone the water was polluted...."

It began as a red area under one breast, and soon spread to both breasts, upper chest, stomach and groin area. I suspect a recent injection of steroids (to relieve poison ivy) to be the cause, but that is only speculation. This rash was severe. I am trying to treat candida. My spit tests are also showing the candida more aggresive and now I have sore nipples? Can anyone tell me what happened? 01/11/2012: Timh from Louisville, Usa replies: "Rsw, the number of days of alkalizing varies greatly in humans with their various conditions, diets, etc. The only true way to tell is by doing daily saliva on PH test strips.

As for bottled reconstituted lemon juice, I have used it over the fruit for convenience with good results. It may have very little added Vit-C but usually nothing else (depending on brand - read labels). I first tried alkalizing using Grapefruit juice but had to discontinue due to inhibition of liver enzymes. If you are taking any prescription meds it is not advised to use Grapefruit because the drug builds up in the blood because the liver can't metabolize fast enough."

I won't go into great detail, but I had a rash for several years and I tried everything you can imagine. Borax both internally and externally, Niacinamide in large doses, Raw garlic in high doses, urine therapy and alot of other creams and natural cures. Some helped, but you can tell when something really starts to kill the stuff. And for me that was BAKING SODA 1/4 teaspoon in lemon juice 3 times daily, and coconut oil about one to teaspoons 2 or 3 times daily.

All the itching stopped, stuff came out of my skin and the rash went away finally... I DID NOT change my diet either and since then I eat and drink whatever I want to. Even Beer!

So, I am not saying this will work for everyone, but it worked for me. I did this for about 6 to 8 weeks."

I am using your website to get off the sugar, to kill off the candida in my body. I have to bake sweet things for my husband all the time, every 2 days or so. He wants nothing to do with my healthy food. So I am on a search for something I can bake for myself, ingredients I CAN use. Is anything from tapioca ok to use? They sell tapioca starch. They mention rice flour, & xanthum gum, all these for gluten free recipes. I wanted to alter the recipes by putting stevia in them. I have tried buckwheat flour, to make my muffins, with cinnamon in them... Oh boy :(. I am about to try millet now. Hope it tastes better!

I know I have to get off the sugar addiction, but I am almost "freaking out" here, trying not to touch my husband's goodies I am making him. (By "freaking out", I mean I am getting mean-spirited! ) It would be easier if I did not have to bake his stuff for him, but I do.

I wish to offer a suggestion in regard to a craving for sweets that the writer of the above email refers to as being difficult to manage. At times I have found myself in the same predicament, and there is a really great solution to this problem, a solution one can use when working on getting rid of candida, or attempting to lose weight.

Brown rice is a complex carbohydrate and very nutritious. My preferred type is Lundberg organically grown that here in Canada can be purchased in health food stores. It has to be simmered to about 45-50 minutes. The best and most therapeutic way to consume it is to eat a small amount - perhaps 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup every 2 hours or so, but it should not be eaten as one would eat regular food; rather, it should be MASTICATED IN THE MOUTH UNTIL IT BECOMES LIQUID, which will mean that one has to chew it about 100 times. If you pretend to have a chewing gum in the mouth instead of food, and it will be easy. This is extremely valuable as nourishment, for much of the breakdown of the food will have occurred in the mouth by the enzymes in the saliva, which is very helpful for those that have a compromised digestive system. Furthermore, the complex carbohydrates of brown rice will stabilize the blood sugar and sugar cravings will vanish. Consumed in this way, simple brown rice ends up being a highly beneficial balancing, nourishing and healing food. It also is rich in roughage and will promote excellent elimination.

About the brown rice, I just started using Success brown rice that you boil for 10 minutes. It doesn't taste bad at all and I wonder if it would have the same effect? I am not good at chewing my food well, by the way.

Something I recently tried was chopping garlic and letting it sit for 10 minutes to release the allicin and then putting it in steamed veggies with a capful of olive oil. Delicious!"

04/06/2012: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines: "I thought that it was about time that I should update my Anti-Candida Protocols on EC if they will allow it. This is the full and updated protocol for people with systemic or any other type of candida -- cutaneous, intestinal, uterine, oral etc. This protocol's emphasis is that it must above all work to defeat and cure the candida, that all nutrients must be relatively easily available and that all the nutrients used should be reasonably cheap but effective. This protocol has already proved its worth and has been successful (and is mostly based on Ted from Bangkok's remedies for candida). Remedies that Directly Attack the Candida

* Supplementing with at least 50 mgs to 100 mgs of 5% Lugols Iodine per day – 8 to 16 drops a day(or as much as you can stand without problems) in split doses taken four times a day(not at mealtimes) in a glass of water. Iodine will also help to balance your hormones and is also able to remove dangerous halogens like fluorine and bromine from your body. Candida Protocol Guidelines

At the barest minimum, candida sufferers should use the following from the protocols:]

* Ted's Alkalizing Remedies.

*As many of the remedies that directly attack and kill the candida as possible.

* It is also strongly advised that all the support nutrients are also taken – these help to address other metabolic problems that may also contribute to and exacerbate candida problems. Liver and kidney support is also advised in cases where there is a heavy die-off or detox effect.

*The Anti-Candida Diet is a no-brainer. How did you get candida in the first place?

Understanding Detox or Die-off Reactions(The Herxheimer Effect)

It has been my own experience that people will always get an initial die-off reaction when moving onto an anti-candida protocol such as this one. A die-off or a detox reaction is due to either large amounts of candida debris or mycotoxins and/or heavy metals or halogens being released into the blood which will cause particular stress on the immune system, liver and kidneys. So liver/kidney and immune support may be necessary to help reduce or alleviate the die-off/detox symptoms(which is included in the protocol). A reduction in anti-candida dosages may also be required for a while to make the die-off bearable for the user as well. When people are infected with systemic candida and attempt a cure – they should always expect an initial period of time during which they may feel considerably worse due to these die-off and detox reactions. This die-off reaction is actually a good sign and proves that the protocol is working against the candida. This die-off or Herx reaction will vary from person to person and its duration will completely depend on the extent of the candida infection and will also depend on the current health state of each individual at the time. This Detox or Herx reaction is completely normal and is medically recognized and will last unitil the candida debris and poisons are reduced and removed from the body and will also depend on when the immune system once more is able to dominate and control the body's health again.

Essential Anti-Candida Diet

1. NO SUGAR. Candida, viruses, bacteria and all pathogens feed off sugar, which promotes their rapid growth and spread. When too much sugar is eaten constantly everyday, this habit also works to greatly lower the immune system's capability to fight disease. Cancers grow in the presence of fructose found it fruits and to survive they need glucose.

2. Moderate or Reduced Carbohydrate intake. The Western diet is effectively an energy dense but nutrient deficient diet in terms of minerals and vitamins. Therefore for sugar-loving diseases like cancer and candida, carbohydrates are banned because they so easily convert to sugar in the body. If you can, eat carbohydrates that have a low glycaemic index, which are digested and absorbed slowly in the body and which do not cause high sugar spikes in the body which tends to brings down the immune system and feed the invading pathogens as well. Also beware that Glycemic Index doesn't measure the type of sugar so is not a perfect measure or guide to go by.

2. No junk food allowed. Contains way too much refined salt, MSG, vegetable oils and other additives. All bad.

3. No vegetable oils in the diet. Vegetable oil oxidizes fairly quickly on the shelf from sunlight and very rapidly at high heat because they are polyunsaturated (weak chemical bonds) fats. Most RBD vegetable oils nowadays are also now made from an unnatural chemical process. As far back as 1962, Dr Denham Harman, a Nobel Prize winner who discovered the anti-oxidant nature of vitamins, proved and concluded in his famous experiments feeding mice vegetable oils with their food, that chemically processed vegetable oils or polyunsaturated oils significantly contribute to causing cancer. So, better to use a saturated fat like virgin coconut oil(VCO) or even grass-fed lard for cooking -- saturated fats are more stable oils that do not oxidize easily and are also good for you. Many vegetarian websites quote The Okinawan Diet as their reason for just vegetables being good for you -- which is inaccurate. If you read the book, The Okinawan Diet -- which carefully defines this diet through their research -- the Okinawans generally used pork offal and pork fat in all their healthy cooking -- and, in their pre-WW2 diet they never used whole grain bread, olive oil, soy milk, apples, and yogurt as many articles suggest. When I had systemic candida and started taking coconut oil, my bad constipation and bloating issues disappeared in about two weeks and my bowels became regular again. VCO is very healthy for your body and intestines. I only ever cook with VCO now and VCO has actually helped me to lose weight. Since the 1960s, baby-foods have been using only coconut oil for their cooked products and those in hospital with intestinal trauma are usually always fed with food cooked in coconut oil now. VCO helps to protect the intestines and the body and is also anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. The reason for avoiding vegetable oils is because most contain hydrogenated fats or trans fatty acids and these should instead be replaced and supplemented in the form of Omega 3 fish oil or hemp oil which is not chemically processed or heated.

4. No soda pop. Apart from containing sugar, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) fructose and aspartame, sweet soda drinks also contain carbonic and phosphoric acids as well as halogens like fluorides in their mix -- all of which only works to greatly acidify your body. HFCS also contains mercury and also contains poisonous chemicals like glutaraldehyde -- which is normally used as a poisonous industrial cleaner.

5. No Sweeteners allowed -- no aspartame, sucralose or saccharine. These are excitotoxins (aspartame) which helps to destroy your CNS. In our bodies, aspartame metabolizes to formaldehyde and methanol which is also a poison. In the old days people used stills to make their own illicit distilled alcoholic beverages and if they were not careful in their process methanol would form. It is also well known that wood alcohol or methanol is poisonous and that as little as 10 ml would be enough to cause permanent blindness in humans. Aspartame is also acidifying. Sucralose is chlorinated hydrocarbons and, in tests, it causes shrunken thymus, enlarged kidneys, abortion, low fetal weights, as these areas are all sensitive to chlorine compounds in hydrocarbon forms. Saccharine, even a moderate dose, can increase significant incidence of tumors in people with cancer.

6. Eat chicken, fish and meat in small amounts. Proteins -- meats -- eaten in excessive quantities are acidifying and, as we get older, our body has difficulty digesting them. It should preferably be partially cooked to ease the breaking down of proteins.

7. No baking products like bread, cakes, pastries, etc. In the 70s the FDA, in their wisdom, allowed the use of bromide and bromates in bread-making instead of iodine. Bromine weakens the immune system and encourages acid body. Wheat also contains alloxan, a poison which can help to destroy the pancreas and cause diabetes over time. Wheat also contains gluten.

8. In your diet, include using a handful of raw, chopped coriander leaf or cilantro in a salad three times a week and drink green tea 2-3 times a day. Maintaining this regimen for a month will remove most heavy metals successfully from your body.

9. No canned products in the diet. Bisphenol A -- or BPA -- is contained in all plastic linings of canned products and is very bad for you. It acts as a psuedo-estrogen -- a female hormone -- and upsets hormone balance, therefore weakening the immune system.

10. No Calcium which means no dairy products -- no milk, no cheese, no yoghurt etc. Avoid all calcium fortified foods. Excess calcium encourages acidity throughout the body and particularly in the tissue cells where it tends to cause myalgia pain. In 1970 the recommended calcium to magnesium ratio was 4:1. Then it became 2:1 in the 1990s. I'm guessing that, probably in another 10 years, these same RDA experts will recommend a calcium to magnesium ratio of 1:1. Ted recommends taking no Calcium supplementation in your diet because western foods are all over-fortified with calcium now. Calcium causes acidity inside the cells when taken in excess and when magnesium is lacking in the diet. Magnesium regulates Calcium in the body.

11. No Fruits. In general most fruits contain citric acid and sugar -- especially the citrus fruits. In a healthy body that can cope with the acid and sugars from fruits it is fine to eat fruits in moderation. But if you are ill with an acid-loving and sugar-loving disease like cancer then any acid or sugar food like fruits will actually promote spread because eating fruits uses up your alkaline body bicarbonates during digestion. This further weakens the immune system, increases blood acidity and helps diseases like cancer to dominate the body. You can eat fruit extracts that don't contain fructose, such as red wine extract, grape seed extract, etc.

12. No Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) allowed for the same reasons as aspartame. The antidote to MSG is taurine amino acid which is mainly found in fish. See this link on MSG.

13. Avoid GMO foods. The most common GMO food is actually wheat. But there is also soy GMO. All soy products which are made from a chemical process -- including soy sauce, tofu etc. Are not allowed. But any soy products made from a natural and organic fermentation process are allowed. If you buy soya products like soya milk, make sure it is organic and contains soya flour. But if it contains soya protein then it has been made from a chemical process and also might be GMO (especially in the US).

14. Avoid distilled water and tap-water. Distilled water is "dead water" -- it completely lacks any important body minerals that natural spring-water contains. If you drink distilled water, this will actually act to pull important minerals out of your body during digestion. Tap-water nowadays -- due to water shortages -- is now re-cycled and chemically processed from sewage (especially in cities) and stored in reservoirs that are fed with water tables polluted with agricultural fertilizers and pesticides, so goodness knows what evil goodies tap-water contains. Enough said I think. Drink fresh mineral or spring water or create your own mineral water instead. You should always drink 1 -- 2 glasses of water at mealtimes. This helps digestion and will improve your urine conductivity reading, provided your body minerals are in balance.

15. Use Sea Salt rather than refined table salt for all your cooking and eating needs. Sea salt contains many beneficial natural minerals, is alkaline, and also aids nutrient absorption and acts like a protective anti-biotic in the body which helps to protect the intestines and liver. Sea salt is also far more alkaline than refined table salt which is normally acid.

16. Try and avoid all (chemically) processed food if you can. Try and eat foods that are made from natural processes without excess heating or use of chemicals. Read food labels carefully before you buy.

17. Whenever you eat your meals, it is always best to eat bigger meals at breakfast and lunch. Your evening dinner should be eaten early at about 5:00 pm because shortly after this time, your body goes into another mode. This mode slows down digestion, making it inefficient, which actually impairs digestion, such that large amounts of food can end up sitting and stagnating in your intestines for anything up to twelve12 hours. This encourages and results in acidity, pathogen growth and poisons being absorbed into the body from the intestines. So, better as a habit to eat a much smaller quantity of food at dinner to ensure healthy and complete digestion of food before sleep."

04/08/2012: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Susan... 5% Lugol's Iodine means that 5 gms of elemental Iodine is completely dissolved in a solution that comprises a mixture of 10 gms of potassium iodide and 85 gms distilled water. This mixture would make approx 100 mgs of a 5% lugol's iodine soluton.

Elemental iodine is not soluble in water alone but is completely soluble in an aqueous solution of potassium iodide.

The 5% Lugol's represents the lugol's strength -- such that one drop from a dropper of this form is equivalent to 6.25 mgs of iodide/iodine whereas a 2% lugol's iodine solution would deliver less -- just 2. 50 mgs of iodide/iodine per drop.

Lugol's Iodine is generally always made with distilled water."

However, since you will also be detoxifying halogens as well as heavy metals with this protocol anyway, I don't think this is a worry because borax and lugol's iodine, which are also both used in this protocol, will act to strongly remove or inhibit absorption of fluorine into the body respectively. So the effect of possible fluorine in Green Tea is therefore cancelled or nullified when you follow this anti-candida protocol."

* Generally whenever people request my help with getting rid of their candida problems by email, I initially send them the protocol above and some initial advice. Then I wait for a response. There should always be a response because systemic candida can effect people in many ways with differing symptoms and so there will always be questions. There must be questions. But after I send them the protocol, I never hear from about 70% of them again. Obviously they are perhaps a little surprised or horrified at the protocol.

* Many people treat candida as perhaps just a trivial problem. Candida not only causes acid body and drags down the thyroid and immune system -- but the environment candida creates inside the body sends an open invitation and pass to other pathogenic bacteria and viruses for a free lunch in your body as well. This is why particularly systemic candida is so hard to defeat -- because you may well have other associated bacteria and viruses in your body as well as the candida -- which can also give rise to a huge variety of symptoms. Therefore, just as an example, if you have colitis, GERD, IBS, Leaky Gut Syndrome, Crohn's Disease etc, then there will be a very high probability that you also have candida as well. When Dr Orian Truss started to use Lugol's Iodine in earnest, he found that larger dose LI could cure not only candida but schizophrenia and severe depression as well. Candida is also a fungus, which is a highly adaptable pathogen which can both hide and overcome drugs by mating with your cells. Of the people that email me for help, only about 25%-30% of them actually do the anti-candida protocol. I am always in touch with these sufferers by email because symptoms always change, other problems arise and there are always questions to be answered and so support must be given.

* Many people with hypothyroidism (another close companion to candida), as another example, when they take just one or two drops of Lugol's Iodine have heart palpitations, arrythmias or skin breakouts, eruptions and rashes similar to acne or other problems such as depression, lethargy etc. This is caused by bromine detox by the iodine causing excess poisonous bromine to accumulate in the blood. And so if you also have a weakened excretory system already (very likely with longterm candida) -- and an overstressed or insufficient liver or kidney -- then your body will not be able to clear the bromine sufficiently quickly and you will get other symptoms arising and manifesting such as racing heart, skin problems, depression etc. This is why oral iodine should never really be taken alone -- but always, at a minimum, involves taking companion nutrients that help strengthen the liver and kidney, while also taking nutrients that heal metabolic malabsorption issues (bromine also inhibits iodine uptake in the intestines and cells). The answer, therefore, to this bromine detox problem is to take the Sea Salt Loading Protocol given here to help eliminate the bromine more quickly from the body. It has also been my experience that when I've helped people from Africa or the Philippines with candida -- these people took 30 drops of iodine from the start with very few bromine detox problems. And yet, it seems that candida and hypothyroid suffers from the Western World -- America and Europe -- have much harsher side-effects from even taking just one drop of lugol's iodine. Why is this? This is because the people I treated in these more primitive countries ate better, less processed foods and better diets that contained no bromine. In the Philippines bromine is not used in their bread by law. In America particularly -- bromine is used in their bread and in their brominated, highly processed vegetable oils. So I am not the least bit surprised that people in America or Europe now have such a hard time taking just one drop of lugol's iodine. This is one of the reasons why proper diet is also important in the anti-candida protocol.

* I am also surprised at the way people think about how to cure their problems. Alot of people seem to think in the same way as doctors do now, which is:

One disease --> One Germ --> One Cure (just attack the pathogen and do nothing else)

OR - in the case of autoimmune and degenerative disease treatments eg hepatitis, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism:

Antibody attacks organ --> Attack and destroy anti-body with huge collateral body and immune system damage and hope for the best. Meanwhile, let's just treat the symptoms instead.

I define an actual cure as taking a remedy or a protocol for a while until you determine that you no longer have that medical problem and then you can stop taking that remedy forever. Unfortunately, in the case of degenerative or auto-immune diseases, the larger pharmaceutical companies seem to prefer just treating the symptoms of these diseases with a battery of drugs (glorified anti-inflammatories and pain-killers with huge and dangerous side-effects) for the rest of your life, simply because this seems to be a much more profitable fit to their Business Model."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  12/04/2011: Pooped from San Luis Obispo, Ca: "I have had candida symptoms for almost 3 years. I got several rounds of prescriptions for fluconozole 100 mg. Everytime the symptoms disappeared within 3 days but returned after 3 or 4 months. I tried taking ACV everyday (2 tbsp diluted in a glass of water) for a while. It made me feel better but not completely cured. In the last 3 weeks I have had severe depression for the first time in my life and an overall "depleted" feeling. I finally decided that it might be linked to the candida. I had 20 mule borax in the house and decided to start taking it as prescribed by Ted: 1/8 tsp in a liter of water throughout the day, everyday for 5 days.

I am on day 5. I started feeling better after day 3. Now on day 5, I woke up with severe flu like symptoms, feverish, headache, extreme weakness, fever blisters, sinus congestion, and a crawling sensation under my skin. I am thinking that either I caught a bug or these are "candida die off" symptoms, which I never experienced with fluconozole. I will stop the borax cure for 2 days as prescribed by Ted and then resume for 5 days. I will post again to share the results."

I spoke with my local natural foods store proprietor and that's what was recommended for me. Also, my chiropractor performed a muscle test & recommended a wafer that has done wonders as the yeast overgrowth I was experiencing affected my skin. I have been a bit fatigued, dreading everything I needed to do/not really WANTING to do much.... The itchy, dry skin in my outer ears - accompanied by occasional draining - is all better; I've been plagued for months and months. I feel a bit more energized..... I've been ingesting the wafers for about a month along with a calcium lactate whole food suplement & a couple of others. I don't find the supps expensive at all and wonder if they may act a little faster than the borax.... Just a thought! I hope you resolve this soon - we all deserve to feel well~Linda"

I had tried probiotics as well, and of course a candida diet. It helped but I was not completely cured, symptoms always seemed to come back. Now I feel a real difference. The candida die-off effects only lasted about 24 hours. Borax worked for me! I still feel a little pooped, so I am adding coconut oil and ACV to my regimen. I wanted to try oil pulling but I'm too worried my old amalgam fillings might come out."

Boric Acid is a systemic poison. It is used as an insecticide! Actually works great. Kills roaches almost as soon as they ingest it. It is highly absorbable through mucos membranes - such as the vagina. The lethal dose is approximately 15 grams. On-line recommended doses for vaginal yeast infections vary between 1 and 2 capsules as suppositories per day for 14 days. Wikipedia references 600 mg per day as a suppository for 14 days - which if you care to do the math adds up to 8.4 grams. If you double this number to get 2 capsules for 14 days the result is a whopping 16.8 grams which goes well beyond the LETHAL DOSE! 00 capsules hold between 540 and 1090 mg! I would NOT recommend using Boric Acid to anyone I cared about!"

I took this remedy (with little result) but experienced no ill effects from the boric acid. It was there right next to the OTC yeast infection remedies. I guess it is to restore the PH balance"

My Dr. has tried a few creams and nothing has worked. Most recently she prescribe Boric Acid suppository's for 14 days. This seems to be doing the trick however, I was just told by another Dr. (in the same office) that the Boric Acid might not be safe while I am breastfeeding. My daughter's pediatrician wasn't sure either. Can anyone clear up this contradictory information? 08/06/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand: "Very few people, except maybe doctors, know that candida albicans grows when your body's pH is acid and therefore, it makes for feasibility of taking baking soda to raise your body's pH but also using some potassium carbonate to further raise the pH as a means of killing Candida albicans appears to be quite feasible.

Candida albicans optimum growth pH is a 4, but it can grow between pH 3 - 7, however most hospital's antiseptic is usually acid which makes it rather ineffective in the killing and the spread of candida albicans. The research below also implies that taking digestive enzymes supplements will also destroy the candida also. Ted

Growth of the organism in broth at pH 3 to 7 followed by assay of culture supernatants at pH 4 (optimum for activity) indicated protease was only present in cultures grown at a pH of less than 5. In contrast, growth in sterile human whole salivary supernatant over the pH range of 3 to 7 uniformly failed to result in production of protease. Growth of the organism at pH 4 in broth supplemented with saliva resulted in a saliva-dependent inhibition of protease production. Although the addition of up to 16% (vol/vol) saliva had essentially no effect on growth, 4% saliva caused a 50% reduction in proteolysis of substrate protein. Due to the low pH requirement for protease production and activity and the demonstration that saliva is a potent inhibitor of protease synthesis, we conclude C. albicans most likely does not produce extracellular protease in the human oral cavity."

Regarding the article that you put and explains the activity of the protease of candida, it doesn't say that Candida is unactive at the mouth but it just explains that candida has no protelytic activity in the oral cavity.

02/24/2011: Pris from Nevada, Mo: "I have had a revelation re: candida and its root cause which is an over abundance of yeast in the body. Due to the poor economy and wanting to save money, I cut the amount of yeast I use when I make bread. I now make bread using 1/4 tsp. of yeast (Hodgson's Mill which holds 1 Tablespoon). That is 1/12th of a package. In other words, when one makes bread using a whole package of yeast, he is using 12 times the necessary amount; many recipes call for 2 packages of yeast for one loaf of bread calling for 3 -4 cups of flour, so a consumer eating bread is ingesting 24 times the amount needed to make a loaf of bread. I have no idea what the strength of the Rapid Rise or the so-called instant yeasts have. It is no wonder that people consuming commercially prepared breads with yeast as well as homemade breads have Candida! I activate the yeast by adding a little bit of sugar (1/4 tsp. ) in lukewarm water before adding to the other ingredients and only half of the flour, let rise, and then add the remainder of the flour---this is called the sponge method of making bread. If sugar activates yeast in the process of making bread, when a person has an over-abundance of yeast in the body, and then consumes sugar filled foods (also fructose corn syrup) that causes the yeast to become that much stronger in the body, just as it does in a bread dough.

I believe that Candida is the cause of all the ailments listed on this site. When I use the remedies listed on this site, acv, peroxide, tumeric, baking soda, acidolphilus, coconut oil, oil pulling, etc. , I feel so much better. These remedies keep the yeast to a minimum in the body. I can tell by the way I feel whether I have too much yeast, and when doing the spit or saliva test, that confirms my suspicions. I am 66 and use no prescription drugs nor pain relievers, and feel much better than I did in my 40's or 50's or early 60's, thanks to all the information listed on this site. I use vinegar, peroxide, borax, baking soda, to clean, bathe, shampoo, etc. , using no products with chemicals. I only weigh 100 pounds and can mow for an hour at one time with my little power push mower or until my mower runs out of gas. I feel much younger now than I did 20 or 25 years ago. Is this protocol good enough? I dont have a lot of money after a year of h2o2 infusions, ect.. I need an easy regime with not a ton of product. I was concerned about the calcium comment. AM I not supposed to take calcium when I have candida? What vitamins am I not supposed to take and witch ones am I supposed to take? I need calcium citrate to build bones ect..

NOTE: To all the folks out there triple dosing themselves with antifungals be very careful. You may make the candida worse because they work just like antibiotics and kill the good yeast too. I hurt my body by overdoing this. (made candida in the long run worse because I was taking more antifungals then I was probiotics. I left it for approx an hour and then took it out and then douched with a solution of baking soda. It worked for me and has not returned."

Not only has my health improved but my spit test results have greatly improved, so I know that at least some of what I have done has worked. I would recommend that read through all the posts on the Candida page and then start writing a Candida diary. This helped me to determine what was having an affect (including foods).

I would much rather you did your own research and devised your own plan of action, however I will the things that I did which I am sure helped in my case:

Lemon and bicarbonate soda drink (or baking soda for the US)
Tiny pinch of borax in 1 litre of water

Vitamins C, B E. Zinc & cod liver oil. Also selenium and Magnesium. I took all of these supplements fairly regularly (2 - 3 times a week) for a few months. This was to address any nutritional deficiencies that might exist as a consequence of the Candida. Also, many of these supplements (esp selenium) are anti fungal.

I also drink blackstrap molasses in water, particularly around my time of the month as it helps. I also drink an apple cider vinegar (with bicarbonate of soda) drink from time to time.

All of the things I mentioned here can be found in this website, so read up on everything carefully and then decide if you want to give anything a try. Good luck."
09/17/2009: Eh from Atlanta, Ga replies: "Candida Treatment: I had tried several things also, but the thing that worked for me was Grapefruit Seed Extract (sometimes referred to as GSE), and a very good (refrigerated) Pro-biotic. I can't mention the brand name here, but it has 3 different types of healthy bacteria in it -- it is awesome. I took the GSE 3x daily - 10 drops in an empty gelcap (can buy at most health food stores) or you can put it in a glass of water, but it's hard to swallow - very bitter. Make SURE you drink a full glass of water with the gelcap -- it can hurt your stomach if you do not. And, I took the pro-biotic 2x daily at first -- then once daily after for maybe 2 months. Also, make sure to wait at least 2-3 hrs to take your probiotic -- you don't want the GSE to kill the good bacteria! Even after I started to feel totally better, I continued the GSE 1 or 2x daily for months.. just to be sure. THere are many, many benefits to the GSE also (do a search on the web for it -- it's also very inexpensive for all the benefits it does ) And... NO, I do not sell the GSE :-) I'm just a believer! (If your candida is vaginal, you can also douche with it -- the bottle has instructions) I have heard people say that Collodial Silver does a great job also, but it's more expensive, so I just used the GSE. It is a great natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. I've gotten a couple of extra bottle in case anyone in my family contact swine flu. Hope this helps!"

I had chronic sinus infections and a doctor who was happy to prescribe antibiotics several times a month. The diflucan came next, and I was up to 10 a year, which is awful! This has since caused hormonal imbalances and numerous ovarian cysts as well as insomnia. The classic case I guess you would say.

I have been on a very high end probiotic (candida flora) for months now and have noticed much less bloating and abdominal discomfort. I have just discovered GSE! I am using the nasal spray and the capsules. I am going to try it in a neti pot and make douche next.

Do you have any experience with ACV? I eat very healthy and have a healthy lifestyle.

It seems that candida plagues an awful lot of people and really can wreak havoc in their bodies and lives. I would like to bring to everyone's attention a woman named Donna Gates who offers so much information in restoring the body's ecological balance. She has her own website and offers lots of free info. You can also watch her on youtube making fermented veggies which she says can really help the body find its balance. I discovered her not that long ago and find her work extremely valuable and have incorporated fermented foods/drinks into my diet. She has her own method of eating called Body Ecology and also a book but you can just learn a lot if that is too expensive for you and start incorporating her ideas.

She also reminds us that now is the natural time in nature, of which we are a part of, to cleanse the body from all that we have stored up during the dormant months of winter. Our bodies are actually primed for this process in the spring but we have lost a connection to this as we have been increasingly separated from the natural rhythms of life. She suggests eliminating oils and fats right now, animal protein, or at least stepping back from it dramatically right now, adding in lots of greens to lighten our bodies, adding lemon or sour/bitter to our diets to help cleanse the liver which naturally wants to detoxify during the spring and prepare for the hot months of summer. By doing this now, we unload the toxins from our bodies that otherwise will continue to accumulate if this process is not done thereby, leading to all the various "diseases" that are plaguing people these days. First raise ph also candida is one of the bodies defense against mercury so you must detox yourself of mercury or have problems from mercury release when you kill the candida. Use untreated diatomaceous earth baked in a starch product like corn bread. Dt earth removes the coating on all parasites including candida use 1 tbs per pan mixed in to ingredients. The problem with many treatments such as drug or garlic and other herbs the candida are able to mutate and after a short time they become ineffective how ever this is not the case with dt earth or the cellulase enzymes that destroy candida's cell walls. Dt earth is very safe. You can also put in capsules and take with food. Or eat 3 2x2 pieces of bread a day and freeze the rest."

I have used di earth for years as a parasite cleanse for my champion german shepherds I raised. I also used it to protect my grain from wevils for my chickens and used it in my garden. When I read about it on the internet, I thought of course this would work and used it myself and it did the job very fast and I still take it monthly for one week. I take it in capsules with my meals for all parasites.

Do not use di earth treated for swimming pools, anything else is fine. Also, I took a enzyme at night to get in my blood stream called cellulase, it digests the outer wall also. I would give you the name but this web site frowns up on that. Di earth is poorly absorbed so it mainly treats your digestive track but that is the main breeding and feeding ground for candida."

Hello, I am 32 years old, living in western europe, Belgium. I am truly happy to have found this website and got very enthusiastic on the remedies and exchange of experiences. As I wrote before thanks a lot for existing!

I started one month and a half to drink every morning a glass of hot water, apple cider vinegar, black strap molasses and turmeric. In the evenings, I usually drink a glass of warm water with acv, baking soda and some honey for taste. I felt better, but I have to mention I went slowly in upgrading the amount of AVC. I felt great, share the same experiences, it helped me to get rid of the morning coffee. I also have a balanced diet with lots of veggies, fruit, fish and I avoid (but not totaly eliminate) wheat products and sugar. I am just not very rigid in saying no but limit this to two times a week.

I lost 3 kg since I started doing this.

Now, since one week, I am at home from work with what seems a big flu. I was aware that I could get some flu-like symptoms from detox, but it is very cold, wet and just the season for flu so nothing wrong with getting a flu. I added some cayenne pepper and think I am doing allright.

What does bother me tough is this: now I have a black tongue. I rince with hydrogen peroxide (what I learned from this site), brush well, drink a lot of water, clean my tongue with a scraper, etc... I had to go to my regular dokter for prescribing me some more days because I still have headaches and suffer from fatigue. So I asked her what it could be. She said "candida" in the mouth and prescribed me daktarin oral, to fight the fungus in my mouth.

What to think about this? Is it my body in detox trying to get rid of the candida? Should I be more severe in stopping all wheat and sugar (which are already very limited)? Should I not take this dakarin or is it recommended? Do i risk just fighting the symptoms and not the cause? I don't know. The only think I do know is that I sincerely lack energy now. Today I skipped my usual health cocktail, maybe I was detoxing too fast... I must keep on working tough, I can not permit myself to stay at home and go into detox all the way. Please help me out... Must do something wrong OR do this very well... I am confused.

02/09/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Karen...If you have Candida in the mouth then it's very likely you have candida in your intestines as well. I've had Intestinal Candida, and managed to cured it. Here is a past extract of what I used and how I cured it:

My symptoms were psoriasis, eczma, BM and toilet only once every 4 days if I was lucky, tired and sluggish all day, severe grogginess and brainfog in the mornings, jock itch(tinea cruris) and overweight. I also regularly caught colds, flu etc many times a year on a regular basis.

This is what I took to cure candida:

* Ted's alkalizing remedies using either whole squeezed lemon/lime or 2 tbspns ACV plus 1/2 tspn baking soda(Arm & Hammer brand) two or three times a day. This is Ted's Alkalizing Remedy and this is THE NUMBER ONE CURE for Candida in my book.

* One tablespoons of virgin coconut oil stirred into my coffee at least 3 times a day.

And even though I'm clear of candida now, and since it is very difficult to eat non-acidic foods these days, I still always alkalize and take coconut oil a couple of times a week as a preventative even now (plus supplementing borax, magnesium, natural sea salt etc as recommended by Ted on this site)."

Thanks a lot for your answer. I hadn't read the posts on candida yet but did so this morning and I came across your post as well. Especially the confirmation that flu-like symptoms can occur reassured me. So I took my acv, blackstrap molasses, tumeric and cayenne-drink as usual in the mornings. I also take often (and will increase) a spoon of pure coconut oil and went to the health store today for grape seeds extract (which is really expensive over here - but I got lucky I found it). I am looking forward for results. The only thing I am not sure of is whether to take the anti-candida oral get the doc prescribed... Could this speed up the proces and could this be helpful? Or should I say no to this traditional medicine? .. I ask this question because I've seen a site from someone with chronic fatgue who is cured of candida and in the end completely cured buy eating natural healthy foods, but she recommended this so I guess it could be helpful... The thing is that I am working and really need this money, can't afford to go into this kind of deep detox again, .... Yeah I know... Thanks for answering my question, what do you (and other readers) think?"

* Smoking

* Using antacids frequently like Pepto-bismol (for upset stomach) and others that are based on bismuth chemicals -- such as bismuth subsalicylate.

* Over-use of antibiotics.

* Candida infection -- although in most mouth candida/thrush infections the tongue is white or patchy white, with thick and sour-tasting sputum.

I would say that you used way too much H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and killed everything that lives on your tongue the good and the bad. I also did this once when I used to much H202. It went from white to red then to black then back to white. Your tongue will most likely go back to a white color after a few days. Take Care."

Hi, Thank you very much for you feedback and I'm very happy to hear that some people really do win the battle against Candida, it encourages us to continue the treatment, however, I have a few questions to adress to you, one of them is about Ted's Alkalizing diet:

How could you make your body Alkaline? It's impossible. Death will occur if the ph of the blood is other than its range which is 7±0,4. The homeostatie will always try to keep the optimal ph of the body.

You can verify in all the scientific articls and you will never find such Alkaline body or acidic body. Alkalosis or acidos are two deadly disease when the ph of the body is other than 7,4±0,1.

I can understand a diet low of carbohydrates but I couldn't understand the myth about Alkaline or Acidic blood.

Also, some readers put an accent about cellulase which some companies claims it will kill candida. That is an abvious big lie. Candida Albican has no cellulose in its membrane, the main ingrdients are chitin, ergosterol, B-glucan.

I will appreciate your response.

06/23/2010: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Labes...I could also perhaps produce many logical arguments as to why alkalizing works so well as well as provide links to many websites that support and explain how alkalizing works towards body health.

But the way I see it, there are already hundreds of entries by Ted from Bangkok on EC that adequately and thoroughly explain the chemistry of body alkalizing far better than I could ever describe it.

Ted from Bangkok is a University educated chemist/microbiologist who has worked for many years in the US food and medical sectors as a chemist. He probably has more knowledge about drugs, herbs, minerals and vitamins in his two little thumbs than I have in my brain...LOL. Ted is now a healer, and a very successful one.

All I know is that Ted's simple alkalizing remedies had an astonishing effect on my candida. I also took VCO, molasses etc which helped, but it was really the alkalizing that drove out the candida as far as I was concerned. And, along with candida, my psoriasis, eczma, bloating, low energy, athletes foot etc. also completely cleared up.

I could argue this and that with you about Ted's Alkalizing Remedies and it would probably go on for ever. I prefer not to do that, achieves so little. If you don't believe in alkalizing that's OK.

For myself, I really find it unnecessary to prove anything, because I feel so much healthier now and this is my only evidence -- by observation of the results of alkalizing against candida in my own body -- which, to me, needs no arguing. It worked and is self-evident.

I also know about drugs like Nystatin, Threelac etc for candida. I never tried them because I didn't particularly want to use them because their side-effects can be pretty awful.

Your comment about the hype on drugs that contain cellulase being so effective against candida is well taken and is yet another reason why I really don't use drugs unless I absolutely have too. Because it's so difficult to trust the drugs companies. It has been well known for many years that alkalizing helps the body. Here is one interesting example -- how Dr Orian Truss discovered one of the most effective cures against candida -- lugol's iodine(which is very alkaline):

My first comment about Ted's Alkalizing remedy was not about its effectiveness against Candida, but about Alkalizing the body. I will be very happy to have from you some scientific articles about the body or the blood being Alkiline. Beleive me, I'm even reading physiological reference to find such claim about the possibility to rise the Ph of the body above or below 7.1±0,4. I couldn't find one.

Why I asked such questions is because of my sickness due to Candida ( Which I believe I got it from abusing antibiotics). Also, because I couldn't accept the Alkalizing theory doesn't mean I didn't accept the remedy. Why? because the remedy ( lemon bicarbonate) could have a effectivness against Candida directly or indirectly that has nothing to do with the Ph of the body.

The other reason why I'm sceptical about the ph theory is because some bacteria use their urease enzyme to make their enviromnent Alkaline like H.pylori.

When I used this protocol I did not know what I know now -- 3 or 4 years later. My remedy took a whole year to get rid of my candida, but Ted has said that you can get rid of it in for months.

Here is the protocol I would use now:

To Improve your Body Terrain

*Take Ted's Lime/Lemon alkalizing remedies at least 2 times a day as recommended. These alkalizing remedies create the worst possible environment for the candida while simultaneously creating a healthy body terrain. Also take the BS with water remedy on it's own one hour before bed - this will help you get a good nights sleep. If you have problems with this, then use Ted's Carbicarb remedy -- this is more balanced and incorporates potassium to balance any sodium issues. Potassium citrate can be taken to more directly aid intracellular alkalization. See this link and read Ted's description.

*Take at least 2 tablespoons of VCO per day to help constipation and intestinal issues. VCO contains mainly medium chain saturated acids, very protective for the intestines, liver and blood. Contains lauric acid, caproic acid, caprylic acid and myristic acid -- these act as anti-microbials helping to destroy the candida as well as protecting the intestines from any further external microbial invasion. See this link. I don't use vegetable oils anymore, I cook only with VCO now.

*Take herb supplements like Milk Thistle or Dandylion because the candida die-off will create a big strain on both your immune system and the liver which will have to clear the dead candida debris and toxins from your blood. Think of this as taking out the candida trash. This die-off will give you flu-like or liverish symptoms and perhaps some diarrhea. Accept this and work your way through it as it should disappear once your body gains control again.

*Detox and get rid of heavy metals from your body. Due to diet and if you've taken medicinal drugs for any length of time you will have an accumulation of heavy metals. To get rid of this just drink green tea 2 or 3 times a day and eat Cilantro 3 times a week in salads. You can also use Sodium Thiosulphate to get rid of heavy metals, arsenic, cyanide and chlorine. These will get rid of heavy metals over time. Heavy metals create an ideal acidic environment for candida as well as for nanobacteria. Se this link for more details on ST.

Remedies that Directly Attack the Candida

*Drink 1/4 teaspoon of borax in a litre of water throughout the day. Take this for 4 days on then rest for 3 days. So, 4 days on, 3 days off with the Borax. Borax is the ultimate anti-fungal, also good for bones and helps to balance the hormones as well as leeches out the fluoride from your body. Borax affects your male hormones or androgens in a viagra-like manner, which is why you must rest for 3 days -- to avoid gland over-stimulation. Read about Borax here.

*Methylene Blue(MB). You can buy this at any aquatics or fish supply store. Used to get rid of fungal and bacterial infections on fish. Also used throughout the last century as a successful anti-malarial. Taking MB on its own will turn your urine green and the whites of your eyes blue, but if you take at least 1000 mgs Vitamin C with the MB, these side-effects will not occur. Dosage: Two drops of a 0.1% solution of MB in a full glass of water once or twice a day. Do not take MB after 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon - it gives you alot of energy so you will not be able to sleep !!(I learned this the hard way...LOL) MB is a deep acting anti-fungal that is able to penetrate the blood/brain and blood/bone barriers of the body. MB is also a marvellous mitochondrial super anti-oxidant for your brain -- gives you lots of energy. Read about MB here.

*Supplementing with at least 12.5 mgs of 5% lugols iodine per day -- two drops a day in a glass of water. You know the story of Dr Orian Truss, candida and lugol's iodine. Iodine will also help to balance your hormones and is also able to remove dangerous halogens like fluorine and bromine from your body.

*Hydrogen peroxide(food grade) I just use a capful of 3% HP in one litre of water a day when I need it. Sometimes I splash 3% HP all over my body, this kills everything bad topically as well as being absorbed quite well transdermally into my body by this method. Very potent against all forms of bacteria, viruses and fungus. See this link for more on HP.

Additional and Useful Vitamin and Mineral Supplements

Vitamin C - Taken in the more alkaline form of Sodium Ascorbate -- at least 1000 mgs twice a day. Vit C is an anti-oxidant and also chelates heavy metals as well.

Magnesium -- Taken as Mag Chloride, Mag Citrate or Mag Gluconate. Dosage: 250 mgs twice a day. Magnesium is involved in over 300 major enzyme body processes and also gets rid of any staph or strep bacteria quite well. Magnesium Chloride is the best form of magnesium in my opinion. See this link.

*Natural Sea Salt or Fulvic/Humic Acid. Both of these will act in the same way as absorbtion synergists as well as help create a healthy intestine and help to supply other much needed minerals to your body.

Diet

Avoid the following: all sugar and sugar foods, dairy, vegetable oils, aspartame, sucralose, saccharine, soft drinks, junk foods, fried foods, baked goods containing white flour, red meat. Your diet should contain low amounts of white meat like chicken, turkey and fish with high amounts of vegetables. Rice is OK.

There are other methods of helping to get rid of candida, but I've taken a blanket approach -- I always assume that other problems caused by other resident bacteria, viruses etc will arise because of candida and these also need to be addressed and so this is incorporated into the above protocol.

Ted from Bangkok will have many more remedies up his sleeve that will work -- such as BHT(Butylated Hydroxy Toluene) and Azoxystrobin(fungicide), but these remedies are hard to obtain and I've never used them so I can't really comment. But I have used(and still using) all the above recommended remedies and I haven't been ill -- no colds, flu or any other problem -- for well over 3 years and I'm over 60 y o now. But apparently you will only be satisfied or convinced by standard medical research, which is very unfortunate because even if you search all the recognized databases like Medline and PubMed(which are both controlled by the big drugs companies), you won't find much on these remedies or on alkalinity. I know, I've it tried too.

I have spent much time using Google Scholar, which ONLY searches research databases and have found very little on the usefulness of alkalization or much info on the remedies I've mentioned. I was frustrated with this, so, due to my suspicions, I applied some reverse logic. I knew that drugs like Vioxx and Gardasil could kill and were very dangerous, so I searched for Vioxx on these respected medical databases and lo and behold I found many glowing accounts from research papers on Vioxx. Vioxx has recently been taken thru the courts, and it has been proved that this drug has killed about 26,000 people from iatrogenic heart attacks through Vioxx use. By the way, Vioxx has not been withdrawn and is still being sold out there.

The lesson here is simple. Be very careful what you believe, and be careful of what info sources you trust. If you read a research paper then the second thing you do is find out who funded the research, and if it is one of the Drug Giants, then simply ignore it. However, if the research is independently funded -- ie not funded by the drug companies, then you can, perhaps believe it.

There is also much spoiler research out out there by the drugs companies. A wonderful example of this is the Wolff-Chaikoff research report and criticism of Abraham/Browntsein's recent iodine research. In their rebuttal, Drs Abraham and Brownstein completely demolished the Wolff-Chaikoff iodine report as unbelieveably amateurish, innaccurate and deliberately badly executed. I'll leave you to Google this evidence for yourself.

I also find it odd that you seem more driven to prove or disprove the alkalization remedies on this site than you are to cure your own candida. As well, I also find it suspicious and odd that you hardly even mention your own candida. Most contributors who have candida usually talk about it willingly, to help other people but you hardly mention it at all. What are your symptoms? And what kind of candida do you have? Is it Cutaneous Candida, Oral Candida, Intestinal Candida or Systemic Candida?

Thank you very much for your reply. I'm just living day to day with stomach pain and those horrible bloating even if I just eat salad. Also constipation is horrible. I'm not working because I feel like a death living with very vey low energy.

I'm now on a gluten free diet but there is no big improvement. I eat just once a day salad with some eggs. I don't touch bread or any cereal products.

Last year I changed my doctor because of heart palpitations and jumping heart and he gave me H.pylori test, it came back positive. He prescribed for me Hpac for one week. I felt great for 2 weeks and then all the symptoms came back worst then before. 3 months after than my specialist did a endoscopy with a biopsy to see if H.pylori is still there, he said that there was no H.pylori. He couldn't find it in my stomach.

One thing I don't understand is why I felt good for the week when I used the Hpac agaisnt H.pylori and why the symptoms came back after than worst than before. I was trying to find if the antibiotics can kill the fungus during the begining of the treatment but I couldn't find one. The other mystery is if I became H.pylori free after the Hpac why I still have the pain? It is a big dilemma for me.That let me think of Candida as an issue and not H.pylori. Since that time, I started taking probiotics and sticking to the atkin's diet. I'm so skinny now. But I still have the problem.

For your Candida you should try colloidal silver. Your Candida has probably turned into systemic fungi now and it will take a while to clear it up. You have to look in the Web to see what you have to avoid eating to get rid of it. No grains, limited fruits, no sugar, avoid dairy, etc. You can eat most vegetables and meat but not with sugared sauces or floured sauces. Its difficult to get rid of but the silver will be a big help and help you avoid other infections as well. Look up both. You have to get rid of it or it will do you in in the long run. But you must also consider that there are two areas that you must alakalize -- the blood terrain(extracellular) and the cell terrian(intracellular). You can certainly have alkaline urine, which means that your blood may be alkaline, but this does not mean that your intracellular environment is alkaline. My favourite ways of alkalizine now are to just use Ted's lemon/lime remedies or to use Ted's Baking soda plus Sodium citrate and potassium citrate mix. Both of these will create the necessary citrates for intracellular alkalinity. Also, if you add magnesium citrate or bicarbonate to your protocol this will go further to balance the calcium and also help with increasing the alkalinity too. "The potassium is the primary method of getting alkaline pH. Actually, extracellular fluids is like a highway system where toxic wastes are rid of from the cells. So getting alkaline urine is important. The exception appears that if a person is deficient of potassium, then it's the intracellular fluids that is acid. Two intracellular fluids are required, magnesium and potassium, and traces of phosphate. In practice a magnesium bicarbonate doesn't exist in dry state so I would either use a magnesium citrate or a magnesium chloride to replenish electrolytic deficiency and imbalances in the intracellular makeup of magnesium and potassium. It takes a bit longer to alkalize the salivary pH as opposed to urinary pH. The lag time for urinary pH is only an hour or two, while a potassium pH lags about 12-24 hours. In effect, if regular frequent measurements and proper dose were observed, the potassium's effect of salivary pH would have been noticed anyway. A salivary pH of 5. 5 is a seriously distressed body. In any event, there IS a possibility where potassium has little effect on salivary pH. That has a lot to do with poisons added into our food where the body is seriously distressed in metabolic acidosis. That I found came from excitotoxins of aspartame that is now present in thousands of consumer products, including Gatorade, xylitol chewing gums, Clorets, Flintstone vitamins, many effervescent products (such as to reduce stomach acid) that required a much larger dose to neutralize these. Hence, to have any DENT on increasing salivary pH, excitotoxins, such as aspartate (e. G. Lithium aspartate, or anything with aspartate name), Monsodium Glutamate, and other amino acids of excitoxins should be avoided as if the neural system is destroyed, the body's natural restoration of pH is affected and both urinary pH and salivary pH is stubborn to change to more alkalinity. Absolutely right. Both citrates and potassium are necessary for intracellular activity. The potassium, together with the magnesium are necessary to help balance the calcium within the cell. And the citrate form helps to produce cell energy within the cell and the end product of citrates from the Krebs or citric acid cycle is carbonates, which are highly alkaline and help maintain a high pH and a healthy cell environment.

Does it matter when you take the BS / lemon?

The best time for me is to take the BS/lemon remedy in late morning and late afternoon, always one hour before or two hours after meals.

For extracellular what is some of the best common remedies?

The best and simplest is simply the BS(Sodium Bicarbonate) with half a glass of water. I use this one all the time. Sometimes I use 1/4 tspn Sodium Bicarbonate, 1/4 tsp sodium carbonate and 1/4 tsp potassium citrate -- this one seems to calm my brain down, make it less acid perhaps and helps with insomnia. This is, perhaps a good all round one to alkalize both the intracellular and extracellular eninvironments, but I tend to use the lemon/lime with BS the most since this is also very balanced.

The lemon/lime and carbicarb remedies are perhaps the most balancing for your body and when you make the carbicarb remedies with citric acid, this seems to have more of an alkalizing effect on the brain. I was a bit of an insomniac and now I tend to use both the BS and lemon/lime remdies as well as carbicarb remedies in the evening depending on how I feel. And whenever I make the lemon/lime and BS remedies I always add a little bit extra BS to ensure an alkaline medium(the water). And if I need it more alkaline then I will add a little sodium or potassium carbonate instead.

How much of the lemon do you squeeze?

I squeeze the whole lemon, and if it is a small lemon then I squeeze 2 lemons and then add the BS. I'm quite tolerant of baking Soda, since I've been using it for a number of years now. I also take BS alone in water when necessary, useful for keeping your blood alkaline. That's the way I do it anyway and I've never had a bad reaction."

Don't forget that candida sufferers can have between 20-30 different symptoms -- and no two candida sufferer's symtoms will ever be exactly the same. For instance, one person with candida might have constant constipation(like I had) but another might have loose stools or constant diarrhea. I have also read many posts here with people who think they only have oral candida or thrush when they have a white tongue. But if they also have other fungal skin problems like psoriasis, dandruff, eczma, athletes foot or jock itch or intestinal problems as well, then I would immediately assume that systemic candida is present and treat it accordingly. The dangers and robustness of Candida should never be underestimated."

How do I take Lugols 2% to get rid of Candida?

First you should test a few test drops of lugols iodine on your arm and leave it for an hour or so. If it develops into a red itchy area then you are probably allergic to iodine -- but only 1% of people are allergic so this is rare. Next, try orally taking one or two drops of the lugol's in a glass of water for a few days. Take this at least one hour before meals or two hours after meals. If you're OK with this then you have no stomach sensitivity to iodine and so you can use the full dose.

Dr Orian Truss used a stronger 5% lugol's iodine to successfully cure candida and used dosages of between 6 - 8 drops a day in split doses. With this he could cure candida problems in about 1 to 2 months.

Therefore for a 2% lugols iodine solution I would recommend between 12 -- 16 drops of lugols a day -- in four split doses of between 3 or 4 drops taken 4 times a day. If it was a 5% solution of lugols iodine -- which is higher strength than 2% lugols -- then I would just recommend 2 drops 4 times a day.

Are there any interactions to watch out for as well?

There should be no interactions provided you take lugols with water outside mealtimes.

But -- at the start of taking lugols -- you WILL get a Herxheimer or candida die-off reaction. This is when the lugols iodine kills large amounts of candida in you body. The liver therefore comes under stress to clear the candida from the blood. This gives rise to symptoms like: flu-like symptoms, nausea, low energy, feeling tired and feeling generally awful. The length or duration of this die-off reaction will depend on the extent of your candida invasion and will also depend on how healthy your liver is. This is why it is also advisable to take liver support herbs like Milk Thistle or Chanca Piedra during the die-off period."

I heard it was good to mix it with a little saturated fat for weight loss. I've taken it a few times and not long after felt a little: dizzy, anxious, and a little trouble swallowing. This all subsided in 5-10 minutes. It happened each of the three times when taking only 1 drop a day for a few days. I am subclinical hypothyroid and don't take any prescriptions. This doesn't seem to be an allergy, would this just be a herx effect? I plan to just continue and hope the symptoms eventually stay away unless anyone has any other recommendations. Thank you!"
11/24/2011: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Elly... Since you are hypothyroid then your body needs iodine. When you initially start taking lugols iodine, you should:

* First check for an allergy reaction against iodine by putting a few drops in the crook of your arm and leave it for one or two hours. If their is irritation, redness and itchyness then you might be allergic.

* Next, take iodine in small doses and test for stomach sensitivities.

* I've also found that many people who try using iodine automatically have difficulty swallowing the iodine in water or they wretch. This seems to be a psychosomatic reaction that is caused by an in-built fear and conviction that iodine is truly poisonous. If you have no allergy reaction and no stomach sensitivities then the problem will most likely be iodophobia. I am afraid that I can suggest nothing for this problem. But a good book to read, whose title should convince most is one by Dr David Brownstein called Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It.

* What people also forget is that the symptoms of an allergy reaction are very similar to a sudden Herx or a sudden die-off reaction when you take oral iodine. But this is up to the user to decide. In the 1920s they autopsied many cadavers and found a 3% occurrence of candida. In the 1960s a similar experiment showed a candida occurence of 30% to 40%. Today, the occurrence of candida in western populations, according to research, is more likely to be 90%. So weird symptoms like nausea, pains, flu-like symptoms and feeling awful in general could be due to a candida problem and not necessarily due to an allergy reaction.

In my opinion blood tests are not a good way of measuring thryroid levels. The best way, since the thyroid controls body temperature, is to use a basal thermometer and when you first wake up in bed to put it in your arm pit for 15 mins or so. A normal thyroid will show a temperature of 97.8 to 98.6 degrees F. Body temperatures from 97.6 to 98.0 degrees Fahrenheit are considered evidence of possible hypothyroidism or low thyroid and temperatures less than 97.6 degrees can be even more indicative of hypothyroidism. The final point is that iodine is one of the most useful elements for our bodies on this planet. Magnesium is another one. Iodine cures thyroid problems, helps to improve and protect the eyes, helps remove plaque from the heart arteries, prevents and removes breast, prostate and uterine cysts, increases energy, improves all hormone receptors(not just for the thyroid) thus improving the body's metabolic rate, improves the skin, used in every single mucus gland in our bodies as first line of defence against pathogens, essential for proper mental development, kills 90%-95% of all known pathogens, can help to cure obesity problems, can help to completely cure type 2 diabetes, beneficial against glaucoma and catarract conditions, useful as a preventative and cure against cancer(See the Max Gerson Therapy and Ted's Therapy for cancer), helps to cure allergies(Read this speech by Max Gerson) and is a wonderful anti-histamine that is safe to take. But I'm afraid that you must take much larger dosages than just one drop of lugols iodine a day to achieve any of these beneficial effects because the whole body's need for iodine is so great.

The second point I must make is that taking one drop or small amounts of iodine for problems like hypothyroid will not work because the rest of the body's need for iodine is 100 times more than the RDA that is needed for the thyroid. This means that whatever dosage of oral iodine you take -- the body will grab 100 times more iodine than the thyroid. So whatever dosage of lugols you are taking now must also therefore satisfy the whole body's need for iodine. The RDA for just thyroid iodine maintenance per day is defined as approx 125 MICROgrams. So just multiply that by 100 and you get 12.5 MILLIgrams -- which is equivalent to 2 drops of lugols 5% iodine (or equivalent to approx 4 drops 2% lugols iodine) -- and that's only for just thyroid and body iodine maintenance!!

If you have sensitivities or problems with lugols iodine, then perhaps try Nascent Iodine. This form doesn't have much taste and is a form which contains the most triiodide or I3 ions which is the most recognised, absorbable and bioavailable form of iodine for the body. Lugols Iodine also contains I3 but Nascent Iodine(also known as Atomidine) contains far more because it has been made using a special electrical process(to create more ionic I3 ). You should also be able to take much larger dosages of Nascent Iodine without problems."

"The literature search revealed that 60 million mainland Japanese consume a daily average of 13.8 mg of elemental iodine[mainly from kelp and seaweed as food] and they are one of the healthiest nations, based on overall wellbeing and cancer statistics (4). Japanese women do not stop consuming iodine-rich foods during pregnancy, and Japanese fetuses are exposed to maternal peripheral levels of iodide at concentrations of 10-5M to 10-6M. Either the Japanese are mutants, capable of striving on toxic levels of iodine or we have been grossly deceived, and the human body needs at least 100 times the RDA, which was established very recently in 1980 and confirmed in 1989!! 13.8 mgs is about 2 drops of 5% Lugols Iodine per day which is approx 100 times more than the current RDA for iodine. Further evidence has also confirmed that iodine supplementation by mothers both during and after pregnancy helps the baby's brain and CNS system to develop properly and also helps to reduce cretinism and retardation in the newborn such that there seems to be a direct relationship between the baby's intelligence outcome with a higher IQ and iodine intake. Iodine helps to reduce miscarriages and also reduces complications during pregnancy. After the baby has been born, it is also important that the mother continues taking iodine, because iodine in mother's milk will further help to protect the baby's health against germs, heavy metals and halogens during early stage development as well.

I must also add here that purchasing kelp tablets will not be sufficient to attain the proper dose as recommended above. I recently purchased a so-called good make of European kelp tablets and when I eventually read the label(stupid me!! ), this revealed that each tablet only contained 125 MICROgrams of actual iodine. Therefore I would have had to take 100 of these tablets PER DAY just to satisfy the same maintenance iodine intake as the healthy Japanese. Please understand that I have nothing against Kelp in natural food form, however I do object very much to the ridiculous RDA for Iodine as recommended by the medical regulatory authorities which is so rigidly enforced by the Codex laws in Europe -- and we all know why. This will also apply to American forms of kelp as well.

Finally, I was day-dreaming the other day -- as one does -- and had these thoughts.

Arthritis prevalence across the population in the US is about 22%. The prevalence of arthritis in Israel is 0.35% -- because their drinking water supply contains slightly over 3 ppm of borax.

Heart disease statistics in Finland were horrific until they added magnesium to their drinking water. Now their heart disease figures has gone "Oriental" and are the lowest in Europe.

Chlorine is used in western drinking water supplies. Why not use Iodine instead?

So, if we added proper amounts of borax, magnesium and iodine(not expensive) into our western water supplies --- then in one sweep we would greatly reduce heart disease, arthritis, goiter, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, cancer, infectious and fungal diseases etc and the western populations would immediately become healthier again!!

However and as far as I am aware, common sense has never yet entered into the rather bereft and squalid regions of political thinking and debate -- particularly regarding the important health needs of their ordinary citizens. Politicians only ever seem to think of their sick flock as tax mikcows these days. Or perhaps "Tax Cattle" would be the more appropriate term here.

Scrolling through this website and trying to find the info myself, would the proper amounts of your "dream mixture" be 1/8 tsp borax, 10 drops 80% magnesium chloride and 2 drops 5% Lugols iodine in a glass of water most days of the week? Anything else we can add to this "super drink".. Like maybe 5-10 drops 3% H2O2 and a pinch of tannic acid (or green tea) and a pinch of EDTA or is this over the top. BTW your posts on this are awesome!!!!!"
