Type II diabetes is becoming more common worldwide, leading to serious health problems if not appropriately managed. While medication is often necessary, many people find that natural remedies can help control their blood sugar levels. This article will guide you through some effective natural treatments for Type II diabetes, focusing on easy-to-follow dietary changes, supplements, and lifestyle tips.

Dietary Changes to Manage Diabetes

One of the most effective ways to control Type II diabetes is through diet. Here are some key tips:

  • Reduce Sugar and Simple Carbs: Reduce sugary foods and simple carbohydrates like white bread and pastries. Instead, choose whole grains such as brown rice and quinoa. These help stabilize blood sugar levels.
  • Healthy Fats and Proteins: Include good fats like olive oil, avocados, and coconut oil. Add proteins such as beans, lean meats, and fish like salmon to your meals. These foods help maintain steady energy levels.
  • Fruits and Vegetables: Focus on leafy greens, green beans, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. These vegetables are nutrient-rich and help keep your blood sugar in check. Be cautious with fruit intake; some fruits can spike blood sugar.
  • Fiber-Rich Foods: Incorporate fiber from sources like flax seeds and chia seeds. These can be added to oatmeal or salads, helping you feel fuller longer and manage blood sugar better.

Supplements for Blood Sugar Control

Supplements can provide additional support for managing Type II diabetes:

  • Vitamin D and Magnesium: These nutrients are crucial in insulin sensitivity and overall metabolic health.
  • Chromium and Alpha Lipoic Acid: These supplements help your body use insulin more effectively.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: A simple remedy, apple cider vinegar can help stabilize blood sugar levels when taken regularly, such as mixing a tablespoon in water before meals.
  • Cinnamon: Particularly Ceylon cinnamon, this spice can help regulate blood sugar. Sprinkle it on your food or take it in capsule form.

Exercise: A Key to Managing Diabetes

Regular exercise is vital for those with Type II diabetes. It helps reduce blood glucose levels, improves circulation, and boosts overall metabolism. Start with short walks and gradually increase your activity level. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise four to five days a week.

Home Remedies Worth Trying

  • Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): ACV helps balance your body's pH and improves digestion, which can assist in regulating blood sugar levels.
  • Milk Kefir: This probiotic-rich drink can help balance gut bacteria, which may be beneficial for blood sugar control.

Caution and Monitoring

When implementing these natural remedies, monitoring your blood sugar levels closely is important. Each body reacts differently, and what works for one person may not work for another. Always consult your healthcare provider before significantly changing your diet, supplements, or exercise routine.

Natural remedies, combined with a healthy lifestyle, can be a powerful way to manage Type II diabetes. Have you tried any of these natural approaches? Share your experiences with us, and keep reading for feedback from Earth Clinic readers who have found success with natural remedies.

ACV, Garlic, Ginger, Lemon heart disease tonic:

I'm an internist in NJ. I've tried this concoction on a limited number of patients and found that it did not reduce their cholesterol levels, but it does reduce glucose levels.

So now I am suggesting this to my diabetic or borderline diabetic patients. Will have more experience and results in a few months.

Will you be willing to share the amounts in the ingredients of this concoction? I am having issues maintaining stable blood sugar levels despite low-gi diet, exercise and green veggie juice.

Thanks!

Tina, some of my patients have used a premixed concoction they purchased overseas, but the correct home remedy (based upon direct interviews with several people who regularly make this concoction) appears to be to cook the 4 cups of ingredients (1 cup each of ACV, lemon juice, ginger juice and garlic juice) on medium flame down to 3 cups (which usually takes 30 minutes), then add 2-3 cups of organic honey (some have mentioned 1 cup).

3-4 tablespoons need to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach. About 15-30 minutes should pass before eating anything else, depending upon how fast one's digestion and metabolism is.

Hope that helps.

Would it work as well to use the raw juices and not cook them down? The cooking kills the enzymes. It seems logical that raw would work better, to me. Am I missing something?

Hi Wanda,

My late partner had type two for like over 20 yrs before we got together. In 2015 he was diagnosed with bowel cancer, but I'd like to share a part of our story with the hope that it helps you too.

We heard about black seed oil (nigella sativa), so I started to do some research and we both started taking it. I took maintenance dose and he slowly increased to a higher dose.
The black seed oil (BSO) helped a lot, at times he could go without his insulin. If he wasn't on chemo, he could have controlled it a lot easier. It also helped with his liver and immune.

Black seed oil has the potential to cure everything they say. It's proven to help me in my digestive problems, OA pain, sinuses, dry eyes and prevents colds and flu's and keeps my immune strong.

There are plenty of studies and articles on BSO.

WHAT IS THE BEST BSO?

Hope this helps you.

Good luck

In response to Mark's post on the Food Grade Peroxide page:

Posted by Mark (Rancho Cucamonga, California) on 03/14/2018

Hello to all of the Healthy family, I started Monday 3/12/2018 with 3 drops in 6 ounces of DISTILLED WATER 3 times on the FIRST day and I feel much better after just 3 days. No more diabetes pain in my arms and shoulders. A1C dropping with each drink. I am living proof HP works, I'm starting my wife and daughters on it next week because I have more problems than they do and I wanted to see if woks or not. Two thumbs up is what I'm giving it.

Hi Mark...There was some major research breakthroughs on diabetes and blood sugar problems in the 1950s. This research has been successfully surpressed for decades. What they found was that both vanadium and chromium, as essential trace minerals in your diet, are necessary to maintain proper insulin sensitivity, which means that both these minerals act together with insulin to help escort the glucose from the blood into the cells. If there is a lack of chromium in the diet and too much unmanaged sugar in the blood longterm then this will cause serious peripheral blood flow problems and heart problems.

The research I read showed that when people who had pre-diabetes or diabetes conditions took either chromium or vanadium then they were either outright cured or, at least, were able to greatly reduced their diabetes meds.

Clinical studies on chromium picolinate supplementation in diabetes mellitus--a review.

The chromium picolinate dosage recommended by The US Institute of Medicine is only 25 to 30 mcg per day which is way too small. According to the successful older research, men can safely take up to 2000 mcg of chromium per day whereas women must take no more than 1000 mcgs per day.

Since you also have constant high blood sugar(ie you have insulin sensitivity issues) which is dangerous, I would recommend that you take the above protocol. Take 1000 mcg chromium per day with meals. I would also take Chanca piedra tea or Chanc piedra extract (500mg) twice a day which will also help to balance your blood minerals properly.

As a matter of interest, I've managed to lose alot of weight in the last year without having to exercise vigorously. I was 190 lbs and have dropped my weight down to below 170 lbs with little effort. The herbs I was taking which had the best weight-loss effect were milk thistle (500 mgs once a day after a meal), alpha lipoic acid (600mgs/day), chromium (800 mcgs once a day after a meal), resveratrol (150mgs - japanese knotweed form as recommended by John Buhner) and B100 complex once every 3 days taken with a meal. So don't be too surprised if you start losing some weight when you start taking the chromium.

Diabetes can be reversed in about 2 months. It's a vitamin/ mineral deficiency of chromium and vanadium. Check out Dr Joel Wallach YouTube or Dr Peter Glidden.

Big Pharma is using you as an ATM machine and you'll never be cured just managed. Stop eating carbs / sugar - that's feeds the cancer cells you have in your body. Give your body what it needs to heal itself because God made us that way.

Hello Folks, yes it's me again!!

Do I hear groaning in the background - tut tut?

Would you like the bad news first?

If you do nothing else for your good self to-day, you really ought to listen to this lady-she has an important message to deliver.

If you sincerely believe that your health's future and that of your family is in your hands, then at least listen to what she has to say on the subject of early-onset diabetes or type 2 diabetes or whatever you choose to call it. Apparently, it is something that doesn't just affect other people! There's a surprise!

I have mentioned before on this Site that I struggle with an over-fondness for bread, which I find is hard to deal with, even though I am just a teeny weeny bit overweight (and certainly not obese). I just want to be pro-active with this issue before it gets on top of me. I need more won't power obviously! Obesity leads to a whole host of other health problems.

At the risk of sounding like a cracked, old gramophone record, as we get older we have more such issues to deal with (increased tendency to put on the pounds etc). Like the old adage "Until you are forty, your liver looks after you: after forty, you need to look after your liver". After all, who else will do so?

I think Dr. Grundy has a lot to say on this subject and would also be worth tuning into for additional information.

We all like our carbs I guess but perhaps we should start treating them with more respect or maybe a jaundiced eye?

Anyway, it's not all Doom, Gloom and Despondency, the Good Doctor Sarah Hallberg has a hopeful and encouraging message at the end, which I will leave for her to articulate.

Cheers and Good Health to you from Down Under

Losing weight is easy. Cut carbs. What are carbs - bread, rice, pasta, sugar, cereals, cookies, cakes, ice cream. Anything with sugar.

There are delicious carb free options these days.

Jason Fung explains why you cannot lose weight and insulin resistance. If this is why you fried your metabolism by overindulging on above.

It's what you eat.

Hi MIchael!

I solved my bread problem! Real sourdough bread. I found a place that makes the real deal (apparently, all of the stuff you buy at the market isn't really sourdough). It's kind of expensive but the benefit is two-fold. I can eat bread with ZERO problems - which I haven't done since they started adding even MORE gluten - while the expense keeps me from eating too much. I also learned how to make it which would have the same effect - even though it's the simplest bread you can make, who wants the oven on in the summer? Plus, it freezes beautifully and, if you make your own, you can slice it really, REALLY thin - and I prefer thin sliced bread.

Good to know, thanks, Cindy. I became slightly obsessed this summer with sourdough bread after avoiding gluten for a long time. Trader Joe's has a tasty loaf I started buying. Whole Foods also carries a couple of yummy brands - a French version and a San Francisco version. So in investigating different loaves of sourdough, my one slice a day MAX quickly turned into one slice with every meal because sourdough tastes so good. Soon enough, I added another slice for a mid-day snack because I just couldn't get enough of it! BAD, BAD, BAD!! I turned into a total zombie!!! I was tired all day long!! I am surprised I could get anything done. Quite sure I did quite a number on my blood sugar.

The good news is that I went cold turkey recently and can report that my energy levels went back to normal immediately.

If I can find a bakery that makes the real sourdough deal, I may buy a loaf, but I think it might be better if sourdough stays off my radar! 😳

Hi Deirdre! I haven't tried all of the breads you mention but Trader Joe's isn't true sour dough. I don't think there are any true sour dough commercial breads.

I have no idea why they're allowed to label them as such. Of course, it's obvious why they would WANT to call them sour dough but...why it's allowed, I have no idea.

Hi - as you like it so much, and know what type your system can tolerate, why don't you make your own? It takes about a week to make the 'starter' but after that you've got it - if you cant bake at all you can use a breadmaker, although it is quite easy to make it when you have a bit of practice.

True, sourdough that doesn't affect you as much as store bought sour dough is made with whole wheat, I use Einkorn whole wheat flour. Make my own starter and it ferments for at least a week. Tastes great and as a diabetic I want bread but do not want the spike that goes with factory made breads that use white flour. My two cents worth

Nicotine Gum

I heard a doctor's testimony of getting his wife delivered from 2 years of losing her sense of taste by chewing nicotine gum. He said a plaque had accumulated on her nerve endings and in 3 days she had her sense of taste back. She chewed 4 pieces of gum a day for 10 mins. She continued doing this for 30 days. I had been experiencing occasional numbness and stinging in my feet for MANY years. I also had an attack on my hearing, which can be nerve related, so I gave the gum a try to go after any plaque that I may have had. I have never been a smoker. I took the lowest dose of gum (2 mg.). I knew that tobacco leaves were toxic, but maybe God had given us them to us for such a time as this. A friend had a daughter, who doctors were unable to help. She was getting some amazing results from nicotine patches. I chewed the gum on an empty stomach (starting 1 1/2 hours after eating breakfast) . On the second and third day, when I took the last gum before bed, I got nauseous. I only eat 2 meals a day, and my last meal is at 1:00, so my stomach is the most empty before bed. Due to the nausea, I stopped after 3 days (I have since tried the gum again, chewing it for only 5 mins.) After 3 days, I noticed the tiredness I had been feeling for YEARS every morning after a full night's sleep was gone! I noticed an improvement in my eyesight. I also noticed improvement in my feet. I didn't know why I had gotten such amazing results from taking this gum only 3 days until I listened to an infomercial (endorsed by Barbara O'Neill) last night on a product called GlucoPure. A man discovered that Type 2 diabetes is caused by Prevotella, a bacteria that overproduces in your gut at night while you sleep. He was selling a supplement that kills the bacteria and treats the diabetes. Don't buy any supplement like this (which has a money back guarantee) from any place other than the originator. There are many (cheaper) counterfeit supplements out there that do not work. About 5 years ago, I had been given a prescription for Metformin by my integrative medicine doctor, but I didn't take them. This past year I had noticed unusual weight gain (especially in my stomach and upper arms). I was eating the same or less than I was before the gain and I had the same activity level. Almost all of those above mentioned symptoms, which are now gone, were connected to the diabetes bacteria, Prevotella increasing in my gut while I slept. I will continue to chew the gum to experience the easy weight loss that results as these excess bacteria are cleaned out.

Nicotine is actually a nutrient - a form of niacin - a deficiency in which appears to connect peripheral neuropathy, eczema, diabetes and the cravings for both tobacco and sweets.

The body wants smokers to smoke and that's how you make billions of dollars. You demonize one form of a nutrient from which the body can get some of something it needs, hire lobbyists to bury and hide information about the healthier choices that can break that cravings loop and sell lots of the former to those whose bodies are constantly craving ANY form of the latter they can get.

Nutrients, food and real remedies don't generate that kind of revenue so they don't have high-paid lobbyists and marketing firms with which to control politicians or what the media is and isn't allowed to tell the population at large - I.e. the minds of the people. Hence Wall Street's use of such tactics.

I explore things for myself, preferring to generate my own karma rather than riding around on others' bandwagons licking their karma up off the road and blaming the karmic consequences of doing so on others.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in January of this year, 2021. I set to work searching for answers/healing through videos of Doctors on the subject, nutrition, EC, just everything I could get my hands on for alternatives to drugs they wanted me to take. I started by emptying my cupboard of carbs/sugars but had a good understanding of the fruits and vegies that were low-carb. I won't go into what I eat exactly because I think the macronutrients are most important, and the amounts of, Proteins, Fats, Carb percentages of my daily diet.

70% Fats (good fats) or 113 grams

20% Protein or 73 grams

10% Carbs or 36 grams (I usually just keep this below 50 grams)

I am way not perfect, but I try to be in the ball-park and one thing I do is weigh my foods, I know my BMI, and my Total Daily Energy Expenditure. Mine is about 1450. Another story if anyone wants to know.

So my numbers were pretty high on the diagnosis in January, 7.4 mmol/l or 134 mg/dl. Maybe to some of you that is low but it is considered Diabetic so I hit the ground running. I was scared. My numbers gradually decreased, and my last HbA1c was very good at 6.2 mmol/l (safe range is 4.2 to 5.7). Today I'm getting numbers no higher than 6.0, and recently numbers like 5.4 and 5.2.

As a side benefit, I've lost 16 lbs. I don't miss the sugar at all, have learned to bake with Almond Flour, and I like Stevia as a sweetner in my coffee. Real Stevia by Purisure. Dr. Berg's videos have helped me the most, and also, Dr. Benjamin Bikman on Insulin Resistance which I'm convinced I had long before the T2 came along.

I so hope someone else is helped by this, Denise

PS I really don't exercise enough, but as my energy increases due to diet changes I've already made, and my body rejuvenates itself through those changes, I expect to be doing more. I am 68 and headed for a camping trip (tent-camping) with a friend to one of our Oregon lakes for a week of kayaking and just enjoying the outdoors with some friends, and my little dog Mimmie ;)

PSS forgot to mention my supplements: Magnesium, B Vitamins, C, D3, E, ALA, Taurine, Zinc

PROBIOTICS AND BROCCOLI SPROUTS OR ANTIOXIDANT-ENRICHED GREEN DRINKS FOR DIABETES 2

The human body is home of trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other tiny organisms. They are called microbes. An average healthy adult has about 15 % bad microbes and 85 % good (probiotic) microbes in the digestive system. This can be determined by stool testing. When the gut flora contains too many harmful (bad) microbes and not enough good microbes, an imbalance can occur. This is known as probiotic imbalance or dysbiosis.

There is a video available in the net titled “Type 2 Diabetes may be caused by gut bacteria” from diabetes research centre at The Netherland. This top research centre is supported by both The Netherland and China. According to researchers at that centre, Type 2 Diabetes have probiotic imbalance in their digestive system. Probiotic imbalance problem can be corrected by one of the four ways:

1) Increase the count of probiotic microbes directly by consuming probiotics. Probiotis can be kefir (one cup per day in the morning on empty stomach) , multi-strain probiotic capsule / tablet ( one per day in the morning before breakfast), mung bean soaked fermented water ( soak 1/3 cup of mung bean in 1 ½ cup of water for 12 hours; drink this fermented water in the morning on empty stomach), etc.

2) Increase the count of probiotic microbes indirectly by consuming fibre-rich foods like flax seed (27 % fibre) , cinnamon powder (53 % fibre), etc. Fibres are foods for probiotic microbes and they will help to multiply very fast. Recently, I met a person who was Diabetes 2. He took flax seed regularly at night for about 6 months. He is no longer Diabetes 2.

3) Decrease the count of bad microbes directly by consuming hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar, colloidal silver, etc. at proper concentration. It requires about 5 times more energy to kill probiotic microbes than the energy required to kill bad microbes.

4) Decrease the count of bad microbes indirectly by reducing the consumption of sugar or increasing consumption of probiotics. Sugar is the food for bad microbes. Probiotic microbes can prevent growth of harmful microbes by secreting toxins and antibodies that inhibit growth of bad microbes.
Once the probiotic imbalance problem is corrected, fasting blood sugar level will come to normal level since fasting blood sugar is mostly due to bad microbes in the digestive system. One may also take fibre-rich foods at night to reduce treatment time.

If a person is suffering from diabetes 2 for a long time, it is possible to have a large number of damaged cells in the body due to high blood sugar. When a person eats food, the blood sugar will go up. Normal cells will store sugar and release sugar when the body needs sugar. Damaged cells will not store any sugar. If the body has a large number of damaged cells, blood sugar level 2 hours after eating will be high. There is a need to convert damaged cells into normal cells. For that, one has to take nutrtious foods containing antioxidants, alkalizing minerals (magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium), chlorophyll, etc. I am suggesting one of the following two simple ways for this:

1) Take one or two cups of broccoli sprouts per day. Broccoli sprouts are rich in sulphur -based antioxidant, alkalizing minerals and chlorophyll.

Or

2) Take one or two cups of green drinks extracted from spinach, cilantro, wheatgrass, etc. Add antioxidants like turmeric and black pepper, cinnamon powder, grape seeds, etc. to this green drink.

It will take about 2 to 3 months to see improvements.

Best wishes.

I have pre-diabetes and dawn phenomenon. Besides being on a healthy Mediterranean Diet and exercise, I finally found something that works for me.

In the evening I drink 1 cup of organic red Rooibos tea. I buy it on Amazon.com, get a 80 tea bag box. I also like the taste of the Red So. African Rooibos tea.
