[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 10/18/2008: Tristan from Palm Coast, Florida USA: "Hi All
Any feedback to this would be greatly appreciated.
Almost 2 years ago, I had a molar crowned due to the insistence of a dentist (porcelain crown, metal base). Too late to say that I wish I hadn't trusted him. Anyway, since then I have had a regular "gluey" feeling between that upper molar and my eye on the same side. It's not painful, as such, but I can always feel the it and the connection between the crown and the right side of my head and my right eye. I do not want to have any dentist fiddling around unnecessarily in my mouth again, and was wondering if anyone would know what this is about, and what I can do. Also, I don't mind dealing with this for the rest of my life as long as it does not worsen. The ideal would be to get rid of this feeling altogether.
I use castor oil, HP, clove oil etc (haven't tried garlic yet), and they all help, but once I stop the congested, uncomfortable, tight feeling comes back. If it's a nerve, I do not want it to worsen - it's already been almost 3 years of a static situation. (I also had to have the bite adjusted twice, but there's still a slight problem).
Thank you all
10/19/2008: Paul from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA replies: "Response to Tristan Ref Crown Molar and Eye Issues: Please go to this web site, it is posted by a Doc. Gott and appears in newspapers nationwide.
This article appears on that web site on Oct 14, 2008. It talked about a woman who had an upper molar capped and the tooth discharged something that felt waxy and sticky. I believe I have typed the correct letters of the web site. Maybe this site/article will help. I check the web site everyday. He is big on doing a natural remedy(s) if all possible."
12/18/2008: Denise Riddle from Paris, Tn. USA replies: "Hi, Regarding your gluely molar crowns. I do know what you are talking about. I had the same thing happen to me When I had to have an absess molor done down south. We found out that the glue the dentist used was to old. for one thing, also the crown was not completely covered in the back and was actually ozzing glue when I ate or drank warm foods or liquids. It also got so bad I stated getting sick from it anf I was becoming actually allergic to the glue.
When we moved from Tampa to Paris, Tn this newer Dentist used much more modern technics and totaly removed the older crown and redid the whole thing withih a newer porcyline and glue setup. Here is another thing to think about if you have some silver fillings next to it. Your problem may not be the molar but it could be the older silver filling mix they used in the some older fillings that has caused problems for folks too. Hope this helps. My Doc.Cathy(Dentist) as I call him, he is right on with giving me the straight scope on dental issues and he really has helped me alot in fixing up all my teeth.
I hope this info will help you to at least ask your dentist these issues about it anyway. Good luck and hopefully to become painfree. Denise Riddle"
Mustard Oil and Salt
12/10/2011: Daidela from Sarasota, Fl: "To Ladyhawk of Sarasota: I live in Sarasota and have a loose tooth I would like to try to tighten using the mustard oil and salt. Do you know a store here that sells it? I tried googling where to buy but got no hits. Thanks for your help.
12/11/2011: Dianna from Tx, Usa replies: "You can buy mustard oil at Indian stores."
[YEA] 10/06/2009: Madalsa from Delhi, India: "1. Brush your teeth with mustard oil and salt (sea salt or table salt). Use your finger to clean the teeth instead of toothbrush. Do not wash mouth with water.
2. Take one tbsp mustard oil and 1/4-1/2 tsp salt. Put this into your mouth for 20-30 min. Keep on moving this into the mouth. Spit it after time is over. Do not wash mouth with water. You can see the difference in condition of your teeth.
My teeth used to bleed while brushing and pus was forming. One of my tooth became slightly loose at the age of 30. I tried this for 30 days. Now I am 45 and totally free of these problems since."
[YEA] 06/02/2010: Karen from Alpharetta, Ga.: "Myrhh oil for sore gums
Rub myrhh oil on your gums or put a small amount on your tooth brush. Don't swallow it. In the morning your gums won't be sore. Sage oil helps too but myrhh is the best."
Oil Pulling Cure for Gum Disease
Alternative Healing Instructions
- Oil (sesame or sunflower) - 1 Tablespoon
The ancient Ayurvedic practice of oil pulling is finding renewed fame for its ability to pull toxins out of the body. In the morning when your stomach is empty – and before brushing your teeth – take one Tbsp of oil into your mouth and swish it around for 10-20 minutes. Continue until the oil has turned a milky white. Then spit it all out. More or less any food oil can do, however, sesame and sunflower oils are the traditional and most popular oil pulling options.
[YEA] 12/26/2013: Kay from Jax, Fl: "I want to start off by saying, I do not like going to the dentist!
I have to thank, once again, this website for helping me in my battle with gum disease. After going to two different peridontist and getting quotes from $5,000 to over $6,000 for gum surgery, I decided to check out earth clinic. The first doc said, well, we do the gum surgery than you can go to the dentist get implants, crowns, etc. and I can easily spend(get into debt) of $12,000 or more. He suggested to extract all teeth and get dentures. This would cost less than $10,000 but gee no more cavities, etc. He failed to tell me how my cheek bones will sink in and I will probably age in looks. He was so caught up with extracting and putting in implants to hold dentures! This cost he quoted me didn't include the implants.
Well I came on to this website and read about oil pulling, etc. I begin. I would first thing in the morning take one tablespoon of Sesame Oil swish it around my mouth than spit it out. I started doing this 2 x per day. I also rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide.
I started a timeline. When I went to the first peridontist because my gums were inflamed and throbbed, teeth were loose, etc., as he poked checking gums, it bled a lot! By the time I went to the 2nd peridontist I had been on the oil pulling about 10 days. There was no blood when he poked at my gums! He said my gum condition was "moderate" while the first doc said "advanced". Ofcourse, these docs could have just been different.
So, I went to a family general dentist two days ago, who said that my teeth were not loose??? I did not say a word about the oil pulling. Well I have another appointment for a general consult in two weeks and X-rays will be done on each tooth. We shall see.
So, far, I can say, honestly no more throbbing of my gums, the color has changed to a lighter pink. I have spent approximately over $400 just in these visits and X-rays. I will get an estimate from the coming up consultation to see what they can do to "save my" teeth at a reasonable cost. Ha!
I can honestly say that doing the oil pulling, using bee propolis with baking soda toothpaste and rinsing with Hydrogen peroxide(3%) has helped me tremendously. I have doing this now about 3 weeks.
I would not have known about any of these alternatives if it weren't for this website. I will keep you updated on the process."Replies
01/25/2014: Kay from Jax, Fl, USA replies: "Back in December I wrote about my gum disease. My gum pockets on the front teeth are an 8 which is really bad. It caused my two front teeth to separate causing a large gap. I back molar has a 6 and the others are basically 3, 4 and a couple of 5's.
After visiting two peridontists who told me basically to do gum surgery would cost anywhere from $5000 to $6500 than go get crowns partials, etc, we are looking at lots of money. They advised to save money, extract all the teeth($238-$250 per tooth), have Dentures costs ($2000 for traditional to $25, 000 for fancy), etc.
I started oil pulling and the difference is amazing! I decided to go to a general dentists, who said my teeth were worth saving and felt that extraction was out of the question. I did agree to their deep scaling $700. So, of course, if the gum heal, they will claim they did it, since most of the dentist never heard of Oil pulling and if they did they wouldn't suggest it, as it would be a loss of revenue for them.
Today, I am still oil pulling, brushing with Baking Soda, rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide, and brushing with a baking soda, bee propolist toothpaste. I am do to go back to the dentist in a month or so where they will measure my gums again. Should be interesting.
I have no more severe redness, which by the way, stopped before I had the gum scaling done.
Oil pulling is the answer, no doubts in my mind. I will keep this post updated."
03/06/2014: Kay from Jax replies: "Back in January 2014, I wrote of my success in oil pulling, baking soda and rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide. I since than have had deep gum scaling by a general dentist and had my teeth cleaned. Went back to dentist today and most all my gums have shrunk their deep pockets approx one mm. However, I have a bad case of Piarhea on my two front teeth which were an 8 and now are a 7. The front teeth have moved causing a large gap. Dentist told me today, I will need to pull these teeth as basically no hope. The rest of the teeth they are positive they can save as they are now at a Gingivitis level. Before I have these teeth pulled I will continue to do my oil pulling, etc. Has anyone ever had a diagnosis like this and beat the system without having teeth pulled? Just curious."
03/06/2014: Nanowriter from Hotspot, Texas replies: "Sorry, no direct experience, but if the gum pockets on your front teeth are actually improving why does the dentist still want to pull them? I would try large amounts of vitamin C and maybe a "bone health" mineral supplement and maybe give it a six month trial to see if they keep improving--if there is no actual danger."
03/06/2014: Prioris from Fl, Usa replies: "I would not accept a dentists verdict on teeth especially the gum area. Your doing everything right so far. You are addressing the microbes. That is first part. Your body is just missing some nutrient(s) to facilitate repair.
You have receding gums. It may be a collagen related problem especially if your older. If young, I'd try taking vitamin C. Have you tried Biocell Hyaluronic Acid.
I used oil pulling also and I was having good results but then I noticed that my gums were weakening probably due to my age (near 60). My gums were getting weaker and I got concerned. Biocell HA which I was using for another problem unexpectantly strengthened them. They don't even bleed like they use to. You should looked at earth clinics under receding gum also. You need to look at it from a nutrient approach.
Fight like heck to retain your teeth. Don't give up. Don't allow any dentist to put a tombstone on any of your teeth especially due to gum issues."
03/10/2014: Kay from Jax, Fl, Usa replies: "Thank you Nanowriter and Prioris for you input regarding the dentist wanting to pull two teeth. They claimed that because I am still a "7" went from an "8" that these gums are bad shape. Ofcourse they wanted to sell me Implants or partials. Yes, I have gum loss and because of my age 60's, this seems to be a common thing.
I am taking Vitamin C, D3, oil pull with Sesame oil 2 x daily, brush with Baking Soda, rinse with Peroxide, brush with Toms of Maine toothpaste which has baking soda and bee propolis and put Aloe Gel at night. I have been doing this since October 2013. The good thing is that all the gum pockets have dropped in mm include the front area which dropped 1 mm. My feeling is to try this method for another 3 months which would give it a total of 9 months. I am due to go back to the dentist in June for cleaning. I would love for them at that time to measure again and see that shrunk more.
The dentist did tell me that I now have decay in the root of the area between the front teeth where they want to pull them. The other thing is they suggested a partial well, if my gums are receding why would I want to put pressure on other teeth to hold a partial. Makes no sense to me. Any input would be great. Earth Clinic is fantastic!"
03/10/2014: Nanowriter from Hotspot, Texas replies: "Kay, thank you for feedback.
"Marketing is persuading the customer to suspend all logic". A little paraphrased, but it really made me think about a lot of my interactions with doctors and dentists, where things didn't make sense and they would just clam up when pressed for an explanation.
Maybe find another dentist who is not so eager to pull your teeth. Partials pretty much assure the destruction of your connecting teeth and tooth decay can be reversed by remineralizing your teeth."
03/10/2014: Prioris from Fl, Usa replies: "Given your age, you definitely should use the Biocell HA. Use 150 mg per day on empty stomach. Try for remaining 3 months."
03/11/2014: Kay from Jax, Fl, Usa replies: "Thanks again Nanowriter for your input. I don't know if you read my other items about oil pulling. But I went to this general dentist who said the first time I went to her, "we can save your teeth" I believe with deep gum cleaning we can correct this. Her concern was the very front teeth gap which did have a 8 mm gap(now a 7). She suggested the partials or implants. I said why would I want partials to hold on to the other teeth with gum loss.
Well, I decided no one is going to pull my teeth. I am going to follow my regiment of oil pulling now I do it 2 x per day for at least 20 minutes.
The original peridontist all suggested to pull all my teeth and get complete dentures or of course "implants". Their reasoning was they could do some deep periodontal work, but the issue may come back. With false teeth, I wouldn't have to deal with this. Ofcourse, they failed to tell me my cheeks will shrink in and I will look 20 yrs older.
I chose not to follow their advice. What is de mineralizing?"
03/12/2014: Nanowriter from Hotspot, Texas replies: "Best of luck to you, Kay, in keeping your teeth. As you are realizing, pulling them causes potentially more problems and the root (haha) issue is still not resolved.
Remineralization is replacing the decay in your teeth with healthy tooth structure again. I have never done this, but a little research on Weston Price may give you more information.
For what it's worth, I suspect most of us are suffering from severe mineral depletion, especially those of us who drink RO water regularly."
05/26/2013: Kathryn from Phoenix, Az, Usa: "I was searching for info re: how to stop loss of gum tissue. I have noted an acceleration of 'shrinking' gum tissue, about 3ml in past 2 yrs. My dentist confirms gums are healthy and tissue loss is "normal at my age".... 68. I am not accepting this. I do have chronic TMJ & wear night guard due to significant clinching of jaws during sleep. Could the pressure cause loss of gum tissue??
Recently discovered the OP. Currently using coconut iol, will try sesame oil next month. Thank U for any info you may share. KH"
[YEA] 04/29/2013: Lorit from New York, Ny: "What with one thing and another I avoided the dentist for 5 years. When I finally went, I was told I had periodontal disease with pockets mainly in the 3-4 range, and a few 5s. I had the lower half of my mouth deep cleaned. For financial reasons I didn't return for the second half of my cleaning for 2 months and in the mean time I oil pulled every morning and did a number of other things as well. When I returned this afternoon I asked her to remeasure a few of my pockets. She checked the lower half of my mouth -- she didn't look at all of them but every pocket she checked had gone down a size, and a 5 had gone down to a 3. She was very pleased. I asked her to check the top (uncleaned) half of my mouth and she did, strictly to be nice, and discovered that although the gums were still inflamed, the pockets there had also gone down a size, something she characterized as very surprising.
I've done a number of things, which I'll detail, which I hope were helpful, but I mainly credit the oil pulling for this.
Oil Pulling -- swapping between sunflower and sesame when I run out of a bottle --
Vitamin C -- I've gone from never using it to 1 - 2 grams a day, more if I think of it, which I usually don't.
I made a mouthwash recipie I found on the web: 1tbspn Echinacea tincture; .5 tbspn Oregon Grape Root tincture; .25 tbspn Plantain and Propolis tincture -- combine, add a dropperful to a tbspn water, swish in your mouth 20 seconds after brushing then spit out -- I've done this intermittently.
-- Swapped out my toothpaste for a toothpowder made from 2 tbspn baking soda, and 1 tsp each: salt, myrrh, prickly ash bark, white oak bark -- all ground up in a spice grinder.
And I've been trying to drink blackberry leaf tea (good for the gums) and a tea made from White oak bark, lemon grass, and yerba santa.
Also once a day flossing of course."
[YEA] 04/21/2012: Evelyn from Izmir, Konak County. Turkey: "I expereinced severe Gingivitis in two areas of my Gums, I had a small amount of dental reconstruction done in the US it was very expensive, I moved to Turkey, in 05 and used Dr Tongs remedy for three years it works, But I was unable to find it, again, I found two Dentist in Turkey who did deep cleaning and replaced the broken bridges on the right side, But the stubborn gingivitis was not responding to the treatments the most rececnt dentist used. But a few months ago I was researching for home remedies for dental health and found this website and information about OP I started it from the Oil I strained from Sesame Butter, It showed instant positive results, clearing the white paste from the Tounge improving the healing of the infection under the gum line. Yes I have expereinced some of the healing side effects described by some of the People who use the Op. But it definitely is a solution to ridding the system of unwanted bacteria and Toxic deposits, Most medicallly trained professionals overlook and fail to treat or even aknowledge as the cause of many symptoms. that the Body uses to alert us that there is a underlining problem that must be addressed. I have heard it can take months to get the full benfits of OP, don't stop to you get it. Happy healthy attracts wealthy unfoldings. I hope this inspires and help those who read this."
[YEA] 04/13/2012: Mary from Twin Cities, Minnesota: "I started oil pulling with ____ Coconut Oil about 10 days ago after my first visit with the dentist. I had a bad case of gingivitis; bleeding gums and was about to lose a molar, and was going to need a heavy duty cleaning. The dentist prescribed an alcohol-based mouthwash to use twice a day, which I really didn't want to use. A co-worker mentioned oil pulling so I researched it and then bought a jar of ____ Coconut Oil.
Long story short, I went back to the dentist last night and he was absolutely amazed on how my gums looked. He said he couldn't tell I had periodontal disease just by looking at my mouth, only by x-rays taken the week prior. The gingivitis had cleared up that much in just 9 days! I have been pulling only once a day every day and some days a 2nd time. No more gum bleeding either! I am thrilled with the results. I can't wait to hear what he has to say when I go back in 2 weeks!!"Replies
04/05/2013: Marie from Houston, Texas replies: "Mary, Now that a year has gone by, how are your teeth? Is oil pulling with coconut oil still something I should look into?"
05/31/2011: Diamond from Cleveland, England: "hi ya jennifer,
Thank you for your feedback, that all sounds very good, with really positive results, could you tell me what sesame oil you are using, I used sea salt from a health shop, but felt terrible after 2 days, I diluted a teaspoon in a cup of water, then swilled round my mouth at night, then I spat it out. I had really bad palpitations, that really scared me, didnt use again ended up in my bin, I will get some oregano oil this week, and hydrogen peroxide, ill check the health shops to see if they ave it. Thank you"Replies
06/01/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "I have a hard time believing that swishing a bit of water with salt in your mouth can lead to health problems. Maybe the mixture you used was the wrong one or maybe the palpitations had another reason. I think that people connect too much of what happen to them to something new they are trying out, no matter how harmless! If you drink a glass of water, for example, and have a headache later on should you connect it to the glass of water you drank earlier on? No.... Exactly my point! If I were you I would try again and see what happens, most probably nothing at all!"
06/01/2011: Jennifer from Sunrise, Fl replies: "Hi Diamond,
EarthClinic won't let me post the name of the particular brand, but I use a generic brand from a very famous natural foods grocery store in the US. It's an untoasted, organic, expeller pressed sesame oil that is unrefined (I have heard though that it's better to oil pull with refined than unrefined oil). You can also try experimenting with other oils if you find that one is not agreeable with you - go to the oil pulling page on this website and see what other people have tried, the options are endless! Sesame oil has been the traditional oil used in Ayurveda, but some people have had success with using coconut, olive, avocado, and other oils. If the sea salt gives you palpitations, it's probably best not to use it. Here in the US, hydrogen peroxide can be found at almost any major drugstore in the first aid section and a bottle costs under $1. Make sure you dilute the HP, because it can be tough on your enamel (but as a great side effect, hydrogen peroxide is a great teeth whitener! ). Give the oregano oil a try too, I had great results after incorporating it into my routine. Be patient and give yourself at least a month to see results. I wish you luck and good health :)"
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/28/2011: Diamond from Cleveland, England: "hi ya,
ive been oil pulling now for 1 week, to treat gintivitus, my friend asked me how I was doing. I showed her my gums, she then said they look light pink now, but no change with the gaps from my gum to my teeth, I think the pure coconut oil must be doing something, as it is working on my gums, my gums have been really sore the past 2 days only were the gum has come away from my teeth, and really sore when I swallow, been swishing with salt and water, to settle this, I will continue to do oil pulling, just hope its good news at the end, bye for now."Replies
[YEA] 05/29/2011: Jennifer from Sunrise, Fl replies: "I'm a former skeptic become oil pulling convert! Before oil pulling, I had advanced gum disease, and I'm only 29. My mother and I are something of a legend in dentist's offices - every dentist we have gone to has commented that me and my mother's plaque problems are the worst they have ever seen. I curse genetics for that - we have good oral hygeine habits, but unfortunately people who are genetically predisposed are 6 times more likely to develop gum disease than those who aren't - even with aggressive oral hygeine habits. I tried all different kinds of mouthwashes, toothpastes, even the Sonic toothbrush, nothing helped. The last time I went to my dentist, my dentist commented that my gum disease has progressed to the verge of periodontal disease. She said that it is really sad to see a person my age have such serious gum disease and told me, "You know, you still have time to turn the health of your gums around, but if you don't do it soon, you are going to spend a lifetime of pain and expensive procedures". What she said really stuck with me, and I knew I had to try something different.
Even though I am a faithful follower of Ayurveda, I was always hesitant to try oil pulling, because honestly, it sounded a little ridiculous. As a law student, I'm a little bit of a trained skeptic - and the idea of swishing oil in my mouth curing a host of diseases sounded completely illogical. But after reading the testimonials on this page, I figured, what do I have to lose? Sesame oil is very inexpensive and it doesn't require a lot of effort to incorporate oil pulling into my routine - I could just swish it in my mouth for 20 minutes while I take a shower or do my makeup. So I figured what the heck and I gave it a try. At first it was a little difficult and it made me gag, but after a few tries I got the hang of it. I just take about a tablespoon full in my mouth and spit it out once I'm done with my makeup routine.
From the first day, I noticed a huge difference in the feeling of cleanliness in my mouth, the freshness of my breath, and even my teeth seemed whiter! The freshness lasts all day, and I even wake up in the morning with fresh breath! No more funky breath at mid-day. After a few weeks I noticed that some of my front teeth that were becoming a little bit loose had anchored into my gums firmly. My gums that were beginning to recede are slowly starting to grow back, and my gums stopped bleeding during normal brushing.
After oil pulling for a few weeks, I decided to ramp up the results by following the oil pulling with a hydrogen peroxide rinse (half hydrogen peroxide, half water, a big pinch of sea salt and 1 or 2 drops of peppermint oil for taste). Now, I also put one drop of oregano oil (diluted with olive oil) on my toothbrush. After using the oregano oil for a week or two, my gums started turning a healthy pink color. The oregano oil is really strong - so go easy on it. Only one drop is really all you need.
The results have really been something of a miracle. Not only has it appeared that I have almost completely reversed my advanced gum disease that I've had for almost a decade (I will confirm that when I see my dentist), but like many other oil pullers, I have much more energy in the morning and I just feel really energetic and healthy overall. Not only that, but my acne that I've had since I was 13 has completely disappeared, and my skin looks really healthy and glowing. Like my dentist told me, the health of your mouth is connected to the health of your entire body - as scientific studies are proving (gum disease is already been proven to be linked to strokes and heart disease - do the research yourself! ). Science is beginning to prove what Ayurvedic teachers have been saying for thousands of years - "disease begins in the mouth". So, if we want to cure our body of disease - the mouth might be a good place to start.
If you are reading this and are skeptical like I was, ask yourself, what do you have to lose? It's a remedy that costs pennies a day, has no health risks, and it can potentially save you thousands of dollars in painful and expensive dental work. On top of that, it can save your health - and it goes without saying that good health doesn't have a price.
I wanted to pass along my story to help another person like me. Thank you everyone at Earth Clinic for all of your wisdom, and best wishes to all of you for happiness and good health! :)"
05/29/2011: Swmich from Schoolcraft, Michigan replies: "Where did the term "oil pulling" come from. What do they mean by "pulling"?"
06/01/2011: Jennifer from Sunrise, Fl replies: "Swmich, it is called oil "pulling" because theoretically, you are "pulling" toxins from your saliva (and your body) by swishing the oil around in your mouth. These 'toxins' are supposedly expelled with the oil when you spit the oil out. I don't know if I really believe that. What seems more logical to me is that oil saponifies when agitated and acts as a good cleansing agent, attaching to plaque, bacteria and food debris on your teeth and gums more easily than with standard toothpaste. Scientific studies have shown a reduction of strep bacteria in the mouth after oil pulling - whether this is due to the "pulling" or the antibacterial nature of the sesame oil, who knows... but oil pulling does seem to work! Hope this answers your question."
08/25/2011: Aho from Plantation, Fl replies: "I could not find a good place to buy seseam oil so I use olive instead. I tried to find it Publix for seseam or sunflower but I could not find it, any good place do you recommond for it?
10/10/2011: Hachin from Toledo, Ohio replies: "Go to any Asian grocery store an look for a upright rectangle tin can that's made in Japan, it's the best sesame oil you are going to find. They all usually have few options."
02/21/2012: Charmaine from Perth, Western Australia replies: "Hi all, I have been oil pulling now for around 10 days, hoping to reverse gingivitis before it progresses into something more serious. I am using cold pressed organic sunflower oil, normally once in the morning for 20 mins and sometimes again for 20 mins before lunch or dinner (depends if I've been snacking! ). I then rinse with salt water with a drop of peppermint essential oil.
So far I've seen no real difference. My breath has been better and I am sleeping deeply but that could also be from a detox I've been doing for the last month or so. My gums look just as white, they are still receding, and my teeth have not whitened. It hasn't been that long since I started but after reading that so many people with more advanced mouth issues are seeing noticeable improvements in such a short time I am skeptical. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
When I spit out the oil I notice it's still thick even after 20 mins. When I OP a second time during the day it's often thinner. My mouth is just so dry and sticky when I wake up in the morning (I drink tons of water all day - at least around 12 glasses - and 2-3 glasses straight after OP).
Maybe after I finish the bottle of sunflower oil I will switch to coconut oil or try adding a drop of oregano oil to the sunflower oil? Any suggestions??
Many thanks EC! X"
02/21/2012: Gaylebsteve from West Columbia, Sc replies: "For the gingivitis, there are several products you can use daily.
Peroxide, diluted bleach (the dentist uses this on root canals), Listerine and brush your teeth with Organic Edible Diatomaceous Earth (I could only get this from the internet).
These products allowed me to keep my own teeth."
02/22/2012: Lee from Adelaide, Saustralia replies: "I found that oil pulling made my gums worse after just a few days. What worked for me is using a silica toothpaste and flossing. Flossing is very important and can't be neglected. I am sure you will notice a big difference after just a week of flossing every night."
02/22/2012: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Try coQ10. I put up an article yesterday (in the coq10 section of Earth Clinic) about how coq10 is used in both the US and Japan for healing gum disease. Even people with the worst gums with deep pockets were healed. The article said that gum disease and heart disease were often related, and a symptom of coq10 deficiency is bleeding gums/gum disease. I would take a minimum of 100mg per day even 200mg divided in two per day.
Google coq10 and gum disease for further info."
02/23/2012: Charmaine from Perth, Western Australia replies: "Hi again, yes I'm a flosser, I do it every day before bed. How long does it usually take to see results from coQ10? I was taking that 3x a day for a couple of months but stopped. I might have to go to the EC page on it and read up, thanks for the tip! X"
04/04/2012: Charmaine from Perth, Australia replies: "OK so I just thought I'd write an update. It's been about 2 months since I started oil pulling, I switched to coconut oil after my sunflower oil ran out and I now seem to have some days where my teeth and gums feel better. Some days though I wonder if it's my imagination. I'm going to keep trying and guess that in a couple more months I might start to notice more of an improvement. Baby steps... By the way, I do prefer the coconut oil."
[YEA] 04/06/2011: Emma from London, England: "I had my gum pockets measured in Jan. 2010 and again in April 2011. According to my dentist, pockets don't improve on their own - they just get deeper. Except for a 6 week break, I've been oil pulling in the time between the examinations. I haven't had any other gum treatment. I think the facts are pretty clear. The number of deep pockets has significantly reduced.
7 mm. Pockets: went from 2 to 0
6 mm. Pockets: went from 2 to 0
5 mm. Pockets: went from 9 to 4
4 mm. Pockets: went from 6 to 7
I no longer need expensive, unpleasant gum scaling. Big thumbs up!"Replies

5 mm. Pockets: went from 9 to 4
4 mm. Pockets: went from 6 to 7
Do you mean 5 went from 9-4
4 went from 6-7?
Thanks for info I'm trying oil pulling I have some major pockets and severe bone loss. Will this help rebuild bone?"
11/06/2011: Tommy from Fall River, Ma replies: "Hi to everyone out there looking for a cure to your periodontitus! I recently had an ache in my mouth, the first dentist wanted me to root canal or extract but she said I neded to see an oral surgeon for that. Well, after I left there I called a few dentists up to see if they could extract. I couldnt get an appointment until the next day so I went a whole night in pain.
The next day the dentist examined the same xray and told me my teeth shouldnt be causing me this much pain because even though I had cavities back there the the teeth were savable, even without a root canal. I found out I had semi-periodontitus. The pain was coming from a gap formed in my mouth between my tooth and gums which was caused by infection in my mouth. After a long talk with him about expensive dentist plans, and how he didnt want to extract my tooth, I went home with 2 fillings, anti biotics, and pain that came back after the numbing died down. Thankfully by the grace of God my friend from missouri called me up and he told me about oregano oil, and clove bud oil used as a natural anti-fungal, and natural anti-septic that he had been using to ease pain in his mouth. After he told me surf the web on it I did. And as I read about the oils, I heard about oil-pulling! I was jumping up for joy when I heard the numerous testimonies of how oil pulling cured periodintitus. I somewhat believed it because ive been learning alot about natural and organic foods and cures for about a year now and it is proven that nothing works better for mankinds symptons and sicknessess like the natural products that God created for us to take care of us. He has proved Himself in the past and I was very excited to see how He would help me in this case.
Well, only 2 weeks later of oil pulling and my gap has closed TREMENDOUSLY! Swishing sesame seed oil in my mouth for bout 20 minutes, brushing with some baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and oregano oil, and my mouth feels great! My gums are so much more firmer now as well!!! This stuff is legit. And it has many solid purposes. It actually removes toxins from your body and can cure many sicknessess. Thank you God so much for your perfect wisdom and mercy on us!"
[YEA] 05/07/2010: Javagenie from Central Vermont, Usa: "I have to give oil pulling (OP) a big... no that's not even close... a gigantic YEA for gum disease. I was in fear of losing all of my teath to this nasty disease. However, I started OP about a week ago now and my gums and teeth feel great now. I have a dentist appointment in a few weeks to talk about the removal of my 2 lower molers. I'm not sure this will prevent removal or not. But, I'm sure it is going to prevent further removal of other teeth in the future. For once, I can't wait to go to the dentist. I know they will see the improvement as well. My teeth feel planted better, my gums don't bleed/hurt anymore, I don't have anymore tartar build up, food doesn't seem to be getting stuck inbetween my gum/teeth, my teeth are whiter, and my breath is always fresh now.
I tried everything before this. I was almost obscessed with brushing, flossing, and rinsing. I was even prescribed antibiotics many times. Nothing ever helped. It just got worse and worse and I was paying hundreds of dollars (even with insurance) a year on dental cleanings and maintenance.
So far, I have tried pulling with organic extra virgin coconut, sunflower, and olive oil. I haven't been able to find a non-toasted organic sesame oil. But, will keep looking. Anyway, I OP a little less than a tbsp of oil in the morning and before bed for about 20min.
The thing that works best for my gums is olive oil mixed with a drop of oil of oregano. However, the taste is almost unbearable. It makes me gag at times. So, I started to use coconut oil (which I was already using for it's many benefits anyway). This oil just feels terrific in my mouth... I absolutely love the taste, smell, and texture. Even my dog goes nuts for it and won't leave me alone when I am pulling with it. However, it doesn't seem to do the job as well. So, I have been switching off and on. Last night, I tried sunflower oil but it seems to get foamy and liquidy fast. Maybe that is a good thing? I will probably alternate with it from time to time.
I get the best night sleep after using coconut oil. But, my teeth and gums feel much better in the morning after using the oregano/olive oil mixture. So, I'm torn. However, I can say with out a doubt... next to exercising, oil pulling has been one of the most beneficial things I have done for my body. It has seemed to lift my spirits, cleared my senses, and brought new meaning to my life. Perhaps it's all because of the regenerized feeling in my mouth. I can't say for sure. But, I can breath better and feel better every morning. Actually my ablility to breath now seems to be a pleasant side affect. You see, both of my septums are deviated and for the first time ever, I can breath through my nose. For this reason alone, I will never stop oil pulling.
I also mix up a small vial of 3-4 drops of pure oil of oregano diluted in olive oil. I take this to work with me. I rub it on my gums whenever I feel the need. I was doing this for a week prior to oil pulling and it also works good. I was even using it straight from the dropper. But, the oil pulling really makes your entire mouth and body feel better. And I rarely have to use my little vial of OoO anymore.
I also have to say, i was a huge skeptic of all this. But, with desperation comes desperate measures. I will remember to not be so close minded in the future.
I just wanted to close by thanking everyone at this site. These are life changing remedies and tips. Thank you and bless you all!"

[YEA] 03/21/2008: Stephanie from New Braunfels, Texas: "re: oil pulling-another satisfied customer!. I have been using oil pulling for about a month. A few days after I started I had a dental appt and showed early stages of gum disease (pockets that measured 6 in at least five places). They wanted me to have $1000 worth of scaling and root planing with antibiotics injected into the pockets. I told them I would think about it, knowing that I would keep oil pulling. I went to my follow up appt yesterday and I only had one pocket that was still a 6, the rest had decreased. The hygienist told me to keep doing what I'm doing so I confessed about the oil pulling which she had actually heard of and now plans to try after seeing the difference in my gums. She said anywhere she would poke them before they would bleed and now they are much better. I hope to come back later and say that my fibromyalgia is gone."Replies
