Scalp Infection Cures
"Tinea capitis (also known as "Herpes tonsurans", "Ringworm of the hair," "Ringworm of the scalp," "Scalp ringworm", and "Tinea tonsurans") is a superficial fungal infection (dermatophytosis) of the scalp. The disease is primarily caused by dermatophytes in the Trichophyton and Microsporum genera that invade the hair shaft. The clinical presentation is typically a single or multiple patches of hair loss, sometimes with a 'black dot' pattern (often with broken-off hairs), that may be accompanied by inflammation, scaling, pustules, and itching. Uncommon in adults, tinea capitis is predominantly seen in pre-pubertal children, more often in boys than girls."Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalp_ringworm

TED'S REMEDIES
Ted from Bangkok: "Apple Cider Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide are used as a shampoo to cure scalp infections. You can also mix chamomile, tea tree and lavender oils together and apply to the scalp as a shampoo. Do not take these remedies internally!
I have treated successful over 100 people with persistent scalp infections by preparing a shampoo made of just tea tree and lavender oil alone and have been successful.
Recipe using Apple Cider Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide. Dilute them by 1:10:
- 1 part ACV
- 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide
- with 10 parts water
Use like a shampoo and rinse after the shampoo is "finished" to make the cure for scalp infections even more potent.
More details:
Leave the mixed solution on scalp for about one minute before rinsing away in water. Repeat this again if the infection is severe enough. Avoid getting the solution in the eyes as it may cause stinging. You do not need large amounts of the concoction, only small amounts... just enough to get it to the scalp.
The most effective solution for those who also have a severe form of scalp infection (and loss of hair) is the use of pure tea tree oil plus lavender.
The mixture is 4 parts tea tree oil to 1 part lavender oil.
Some people may feel a painful sting, so you may dilute this further with olive oil. Leave it on for the whole night. I have tried it on my mother (a pure solution, but I dilute it with aloe vera oil) and it cured her of hair loss - and she is about 74 years old. My sister and a friend also have severely itchy scalps. Using the same essential oils noted above worked very well. Warning: the quality source of lavender and tea tree may vary and may not work with the same degree."

11/03/2010: Vincent from Seattle, Wa. replies: "Please help... I don't understand... You say "1 part" Apple Cider & Vinegar. "1 part" Hydrogen Peroxide. With "10 parts" water. What are "parts" ? Could you or anyone explan to me what are "parts"? Thank You"
11/08/2010: Kent from Lyndonville, Vermont replies: "Parts - think about it as equal portions. 1 tablespoon is a part. So the 1 part, 1 part, 10 parts would look like 1 tablespoon of ACV, 1 tablespoon of hydrogren peroxide and 10 tablespoons of water. Bigger jug? 1/4 cup is a part. So the 1 part, 1 part, 10 parts would look like 1/4 cup of ACV, 1/4 cup of hydrogren peroxide and 10 quarter cups (or 2 1/2 cups) of water."
02/12/2012: Jenny from Perth, Western Australia replies: "Hi Ted, thanks for your wonderful contributions! I tried the teatree oil/lavendar combo for my scalp last night and shampooed it out this morning. How frequently should I repeat this? I have a hot, itchy scalp with sores and hair loss."

Is there any contraindication between the two treatments?"

[YEA] 12/13/2011: Vita Jean from Washington, Dc: "For 16 years, I've suffered from a scalp condition that includes symptoms like flare ups, inflammation, unbearable soreness, flaking, postules, hair bumps, hair loss, etc. I used straight raw apple cider vinegar to get rid of bacteria and yeast on my scalp. Then, I recently bought an aloe vera plant from a local hardware store. I've been splitting open the leaves and massaging my whole scalp with the gel mornings and especially nights. I just leave it on. It's a miracle. Not only is the aloe soothing, but it has dried/cleared up just about everything going on with my scalp! My hair also feels soft and moisturized."

[YEA] 09/07/2011: Keri from Raleigh, Ny/nc: "Ted, I was wondering if I still or can use shampoo and conditioner before or after this remedy? I am a black female from the Caribbean with course hair that usually needs to be conditioned and moisturized so that it won't get dry and break and be hard to comb. My scalp just started itching me severely about 3 years ago when I went from being natural to getting a relaxer again. Therefore, I will be trying this ACV remedy soon but will be putting the undiluted ACV on my scalp 1st to see if it gives me instant relief. Please advise, and if yes in what precise order to shampoo and condition? Also, could I use both the borax and the ACV mixture right after each other?"
Replies[YEA] 09/23/2011: Jen from Denton, Tx replies: "Kerri,I have tried the ACV on my scalp, and while it didn't do the trick for my itchy flaking scalp, it makes my hair amazingly silky and easy to brush, no conditioner needed. It strips haircolor, so I don't use it when my color is fresh, but as it wears out, I like to do an ACV rinse once a week just for the way it conditions my hair. It is amazing.

I used various shampoos that smelled horrible and went to the dermatologist. Symptoms would stop for awhile but then start up again. I did some research on line and decided to try the apple cidar vinegar and peroxide cure talked about here. It's the only thing that worked for me. I have had no more problems and my hair has grown back."

I have had these bumps on my head for years that become small sores. The doctors always gave me some antibiotic or such that would give relief for a brief time but had me going back. The first time i used the apple cider vinegar / water mix on my head I had almost immediate results and over the past two weeks my scalp has not felt this good in years. My case was quiet severe and so though not healed I am much improved. I also started applying tea tree/lavendar oil combination to my scalp after each shower...even better improvement. This site has been an eye opener and blessing. Thanks all"

[YEA] 01/14/2010: Shelly from Mesa, Az: "Wow! I am totally thrilled with Ted and his borax suggestion! My daughter came home from camp with head lice and I ended up with them also-June 09. I bought Nix and killed the lice, but... I was still having that "crawly" feeling. I used the Nix 2 more times as well as about 6 different remedies and shampoes but I got itchier and itchier. Little did I know that all of these treatments messed up the Ph of my scalp and that was the cause of all the itching and the pin prick feeling. Last Sunday night I mixed a couple of tablespoons full of borax in some warm water and used it as a hair rinse in the shower. Monday I was about 85% better! In the morning I applied a little Borax water to my scalp and massaged in. I have been repeating this process everyday and today (Thursday) and I am probably 95%. My hair looks and feels great too!! I can't believe something I have been cleaning my carpets with and adding to my dishwasher detergent cured my scalp problem. So much for the health food stores $12 shampoe! This remedy REALLY works~~"
Replies[YEA] 03/09/2010: Patti from Babylon, New York, Usa replies: "This site is really pretty cool, thanks for all the suggestions! For many years I suffered from a VERY itchy scalp and I could no longer take it and was very close to just ripping it all out!! Then I read all this stuff about Borax and I gave it a try for the first time last night and I used 1/2 a cup of Borax with a half gallon of water and scubbed my scalp and rinsed it off with warm water, and I did the same tonight, and my scalp feels great! But after doing all this do I then Shappoo it or just use Borax??I want to do this for at least a week and then once aweek, but it does make my hair look dull, unless I'm doing it wrong or too much, but NO MORE ITCHING!! and that's what counts, Praise God for your site, Thanks, but please let me know if I'm supose to shampoo after this treatment with the borax, Thanks :)"

03/10/2010: Pr from Houston, Texas, Usa replies: "Hi Patti, getting relief with Borax is a good indication you are dealing with fungus. I also used borax on my head as you did and got relief, but found after the first few times my hair did not look good. I than started using baking soda to wash and apple cider vinegar to rinse. I put about 2 ounces of baking soda in 10 - 12 oz. of water and work gently into my scalp and hair. Rinse the baking soda out and follow with 2 ounces of vinegar in same amount of water. I let the vinegar stay on for about a minute as it helps to restore scalp ph. Both baking soda and vinegar are anti-fungal. I do still use a conditioner on my hair but I add drops of GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) in the conditioner. My hair looks and feels great doing this.
I did some reach on the internet and found SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) causes allergic reactions and feeds fungus. SLS is in almost all shampoos and personal care products. You may fine avoiding products with this ingredient may help. Every time I use shampoo with sls in it the top of my scalp becomes painful and I get a very itch scalp along with hair loss."
05/29/2011: Jillandmattsmom from Hoschton, Ga, Usa replies: "I am sooo happy to have found this website. I do have a few questions regarding the treatment. 01/29/2012: Susan from Bowie, Md replies: "Apple cider vinegar is a must, not white distilled. You may want to try organic apple cider vinegar."

[YEA] 01/04/2008: Lynn : "What a wonderful site! I find so much honest mindblowing information on this site. I already know quite a bit about herbs and vitamins but I am really being educated to some incredible healing therapies here. I have fallen in love with borax. I have had an itchy scalp for 10 years. When I say that it sounds pretty benign, but it has dominated my existence, alternating between itching, inflammation, tenderness, prickliness, numbness and downright pain. I noticed that it had a hormonal connection, but because my head "talked to me" with all of the above symptoms, I touched and tugged on individual hairs to calm my head. Of course I knew it wasn't working and it only made matters worse, but there was a "reaction".
I have purchased rogaine, shampoos, conditioners, pills, anti itch sprays, etc and the list goes on. I happened on a diatribe on curezone, and they mentioned borax and also earthclinic. so I went to this site and found a ton of amazing information. Of course the light bulb goes off. The next morning I mixed some borax in water and poured it on my scalp. Small amounts of tingling pain. My hair felt silky but stronger and thicker. My hair looked fantastic, but the other noticeable thing was that my scalp didn't itch. Later on in the day, there were tiny scabs where the small bumps would show up.(I know I didn't mention that earlier, but neither did I mention that my hair didn't feel like it was firmly connected into my scalp either) I knew that I had found a solution to what has been driving me crazy. I really wonder if the people who pull out their hair are reacting to some of the same conditions that I have been experiencing for so long. I no longer feel like I need to "play" with my hair. when I say play with it, I actually mean that I was pulling a lot of it out. I was not trying to pull it out, but I felt that if I just ran my nail down the length of it that I would somehow "fix the individual hairs, and sometimes they would come out, because as I said they were not firmly rooted into my scalp. I take away the symptoms with the borax and I no longer need to touch the hair. I think they call it tricholotomia or something like that. I have a question and I don't know if anyone has an answer, but my brother in law has a bone chip on his ankle. He has had surgery once to "fix" it but it didn't work, the pain is back, and he is once again, walking with a cane. I don't know how big this bone chip is, but is there anyway to either dissolve the bone chip, or to get the bone chip to attach to his ankle? anyway, I am glad this site is out here in cyberspace where people can get real and helpful information and not have to pay 150.00 for either a non answer from a doctor ( I brought my scalp problem up 3 times with 2 different doctors and they would look at my scalp and offer zero advice or help) or an answer which doesn't do crap or hurts you. I don't know about you but when I pay a doctor 150.00 and they either don't answer my question or whatever they do doesn't work, I think I should get my money back. Speaking of doctors, I went to one once because I was sick two days before I was going on a long vacation. I diagnosed myself and knew that I had rocky mountain fever. My father in law had gone hunting and his wife cooked some of the meat that he brought back. They both had come down with it. I had heard my mother in law say how hard it was to diagnose. I had all the symptoms but I tend to get really gassy and nausous. I DID not want to be sick on christmas vacation around family. I went to dr. before I left, explained what I had, symptoms, and why. He said absolutely nothing to me, gave me some anti nausea meds and sent me on my way. They did nothing. I got some charcoal pills before I left because the dr. hadn't helped at all. I spent 10 days in bend ore. sick as a dog, Toward the end I felt like my insides were starting to dissintegrate. I separated myself from everyone because of the terrible gas. I finally started to have diahhrea just before we left (I have always been constipated) It took us two days driving home in the snow. I went to a check medical as soon as I got home (different doctor) I told the doctor, I know I have rocky mountain fever, just give me the meds, you can run the tests but I can not live with this another day. He gave me the drugs. Two days later, they called to say indeed I had rocky mountain fever. I was so pissed at the other doctor for ruining my vacation. Of course this was about 17 years ago before wonderful access to web information. But that doctor was so arrogant he could not stand having a patient telling him what was wrong. Thank god for the second doctor because I was ready to kill myself by then rather than feel like my insides were literally pulling away from their internal walls, feeling constantly nauseated, but not being able to throw up. Sorry, I am still pretty angry about it and I have never called or said anything directly to that doctor. I simply never went to his office again. sincerely. me" Reply to this Thread | Email | Print | Back to Top |
[YEA] 12/03/2007: rhonda from seattle: "I learned about borax on curezone for itchy painful scalp and decided to try it. Someone else on this site has mentioned how nice her hair is as a result of using the borax. I have NEVER used a hair product- a shampoo or a conditioner that has equalled the lustruous results I have achieved with borax. My hair was dry and straw like now it feels soft and silky and very manageable. The rats nest is gone! I can now comb and brush my hair again without fear of tearing my hair out. If for no other reason, I think everyone should abondon their shampoo and start using borax to wash the hair. As for my scalp? I was pretty desperate the day I tried the borax. My scalp was very sore, there was an inflamed (swollen) ridge on my part and there were tiny bumps like zits forming. I have a theory that hair pullers are reacting to whatever it is that causes these symptoms I experience. I started messing with my hair when I started experiencing all of the above. anyway. after using the borax, pain and itching subsided. bumps scabbed over that same day. soooo gentle. Have you noticed that if you get it in your eyes, it does not burn? I remember when I was a kid, I had some sort of eye infection so I went to the doc and he said I had pink eye and prescribed boric acid ointment. so of course it would be gentle to the eye. I am anxious to try it internally for some of the other issues I have read here on the site.(arthritis, tmj, fibromyalgia)."
Replies[YEA] 02/18/2012: James from Waterford, Mi replies: "I am a 57 y/o male and have had scalp problems my whole life which seemed to be increasingly worse the last 20 years. I have been to doctor(s) dermatologists, tried all of the dandruff shampoos, creams, etc .. I had really given up and figured I had to just live with this scourge. I would develop welts or zits on my scalp which would itch , ooze / bleed and crust over, eventually heal and then the process would start all over again. I would spend everyday picking the irritating crusts and scabs off my scalp. It WAS miserable. After finding this site I decided to give the BORAX a try. OMG, I can't believe it. My scalp is completely healed and for the first time I know what it is like to have a normal scalp. The kicker is (as others have stated) my hair comes out so soft and manageable it is amazing, better than any shampoo / conditioner ever. I will never use shampoo again.
Simply dissolve the borax in water. I would use ½ to 2/3 cup per gallon ( if its too much you will get some borax crystals in the bottom of the jug no big deal) Soak your hair in it and shampoo into the scalp. I leave it in while I shower, and then rinse it out. I have been following that with the ACV / H202 solution that TED recommends and rinse again. I may discontinue the ACV rinse but so far I haven't wanted to mess with a good thing.
It has been about eight weeks and my problem is cured. It only took about two or three shampoos to cure it but I wanted to wait and make sure before posting here. Thanks to everyone who is supporting this website, it is like a miracle to me. My only regret is that I didn't know this 40 years ago.!
PS and the dandruff is next to zero too!"
[YEA] 02/19/2012: Shaun from Olde York, Uk replies: "Hi James from Waterford, I had this same issue for about the same length of time as I have variously reported here on EC. I too am cured! Anyway, what you may find you also have to do is wash/rinse your hair with Milk of Magnesia from time to time. This really helped me 'nail it' in the end. Good luck, Shaun"
04/03/2012: Susan In Dallas from Dallas replies: "I had the same scalp issues for about 4 years. I had tried everything multiple times without permanent relief. 08/18/2010: Ali from Sumter, Sc: "I'm searching for an exact measurement of a solution to cure my scalp infection/odor. It started after leaving coconut oil on my scalp overnight which seemed to have fueled a fungus that may have already been present. I'm currently taking "fungal defense" by garden of life (2 pills, 3x daily), and drink 3 large glasses of lemon water(one fresh squeezed lemon in 24 oz of water). I've cut sugar and fruit to almost non-existent in my diet. An exact measurement of a solution to cure this scalp odor, itching, redness, and hairloss is needed. Hairloss is an overall even thinning. If you could include how much water(not "parts"), how often to apply, how long and how often to leave on scalp, and exactly how to apply (I have long curly hair) would be greatly appreciated. This scalp odor has greatly affected me and is beginning to be a source of depression. Please HELP! Thank you!"
Replies08/19/2010: Shaun from York, Uk replies: "Borax (dissolved in Apple Cider Vinegar) is good for getting rid of/controlling fungus generally, but I have found that a 1/4 cup of washing soda (Sodium Carbonate) dissolved in a pint of water, and rinsed thoroughly through the hair a couple of times a week, completely cleared up any scalp/hair odor. Basically, the washing soda seemed to work better for eradicating bacteria than fungus. I now routinely put washing soda (and occasionally borax and/or sodium bicarbonate) in the bath. A quick rinse with ACV afterwards will bring back a lustrous shine to the hair. A whole lemon juice rinse also can help the hair/scalp."

I've been suffering since January, and would describe the smell as very bad. I would wash my hair in the morning and 3 hours later it already stunk! by the end of the day it was unbearable. I tried the following: coconut oil, pumpkin seed oil, ACV, medicated shampoo, all sorts of hair products, rubbing MSM in my scalp (for sulphur), hydrogen peroxide, yoghurt, white vinegar, borax. Finally in the past few weeks I've been making progess- I bought grapefruit seed extract and bergamot essence oil. this helped alot but not 100%. I then bought CITRONELLA oil at the pharmacy- success! I think it should also be available at health stores in the oil/essences section. Rub it in every night for 3 nights (do it over the weekend or when you won't be going out bcos it smells quite strong, not bad just strong). wash it out in the morning. This did the trick. I was able to go a week without washing my hair and there still was ZERO odor!! hope this helps someone because this smelly scalp is very debilitating socially."

08/30/2010: Atang from Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa replies: "To Elsie from Chicago, Illinois, Usa. I had different smells- the smell was yeasty and muggy if I hadnt washed my hair in at least 2 days and it was sharp/pungent if I had washed my hair that morning. I was also confused as to whether it was a fungal or bacterial infection. I still don't know. Another thing that helped tremendously was washing the hair LESS, weird I know. I think that because of the odor I was washing my hair too much, this was drying my scalp causing my scalp to overproduce oil. The fungus/bacteria then fed off this excess oil causing more odor so it was all one vicious cycle. I made myself wash my hair every 7 days (as opposed to everyday like before) and I found that on the 2nd and 3rd day I might have some odor but after that nothing. A side note: I have coarse African hair that doesn't need to be washed so often, I'm not sure how this would work on other types of hair."

She took her daughter off dairy and within a week all odor was gone and didn't return."

CORN MEAL

It wasn't too bad in summer, when I was out in the sun and swimming in salt water, but come late fall and winter I would get large pieces of scalp flaking off and my hair would be greasy. My hair was thinning out and my scalp was itchy.
I tried GSE (grapefruit seed extract) by putting a few drops in my shampoo. I mixed them together in the palm of my hand each time I shampooed, which was every other day.I left the lather in for two minutes or so. The results were immediate, now I just have a slight touch of dandruff, no itch and my hair seems to be getting a little thicker. My hair and scalp definitely look better as well."

[YEA] 01/16/2012: Kate from Maidenhead, Berkshire, England: "I've had an itchy scalp for over a year, lost over 3/4 of my hair. I've been through all the meds the recommendations offered by everyone, don't think there is anything I haven't tried.
Well anyhow, this is what worked for me and it may or may not work for you: In a plastic container add a quarter teaspoon of tincture of iodine (the brown liquid) and about a quarter cup of warm water, mix. Daily during your shower, wash hair with cool water without any shampoo or conditioner, then apply this mixture as a final rinse, whilst ensuring none of it gets in to the eyes. Immediately wrap a clean towel to the hair. Leave hair to dry naturally and before you know the hair feels softer and manageable - the plus factor 'No Itching".... Hurrah! I also use this mixture for my final rinse after my weekly shampoo and conditioner application. Initally I used this mixture for 4 days, had a break for a couple of days, the itching returned with a vengence. Good luck. Kate"
Replies01/17/2012: Francisca from Zug, Switzerland replies: "Hi Kate, my scalp doesn't itch normally speaking but I am interested in this rinse to make my hair feel softer without using a commercial rinse! Did you come up with the idea yourself or did you base it on some known method?"
01/31/2012: Kate from Maidenhead, Berkshire, England replies: "Hi Francisca, I came up with this remedy myself. Initially I used to pour the iodine in a bowl and apply it to my scalp with my fingertips. As my hair roots were weak due to the fungus or whatever was causing the itching the iodine strength was too strong. I thought of the idea of diluting the iodine which has seemingly worked. I also steam my hair once a day to get rid of the calcium deposits. I wish you the best and hope something will help you with your hair. Good Luck."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES
12/11/2010: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa: "I have had problems with my hair on and off for approx 20 years and I have just recently gotten it under control. I have started taking a formula made with Lactated Pepsin, Black Snake Root Extract, Essence of Wild Ginseng, Atomic Iodine, Extract of Liver, and Grain Alcohol. You can look that up and get it! I also use Pennsylvania crude oil and Vaseline on my scalp; I rub it in and then I use a small vibrator with a cup attachment for 20-30 minutes. I use this approx 3x a month. I also use Listerine on my scalp after I wash my hair, which I wash with an Olive Oil based shampoo and conditioner. I use Listerine about 1x per month. However, it will not hurt you to use it more! When I haven't drank any alcohol, I use the "Violet Ray" machine on my scalp for 2-3 minutes whenever I feel the need to use it. It may sound like a lot, and maybe it is, but I have done it for so long, it is second nature, the only thing I added recently was the formula."

NAIL POLISH, PRESCRIPTION

[YEA] 11/06/2009: M@d X from Brooklyn, New York: "Tinea Capitis (Cure !!!)
this should be curable for ANY and EVERYONE who is suffering '' Tinea Capitis '' .... i had to deal with the infection for almost a year until i tried 2 things
1. '' CLEAR NAIL POLISH '' this is the main remedy
(as far as to MAKE THE HAIR GROW BACK) , apply either at night everynight and the next morning PEEL or SCRAPE the polish off (yes it may hurt) and u should start noticing hair growing back little by little within 3 days .... for FULL spot treatment it will take either a month or two depending on how often u use polish .... 2 coats a day should be faster
BUT you need to use remedy #2 1st for a month ,#2 below
2.because tinea capitis is a fungal infection UNDER your scalp the polish aides for the hair growth but as far as KILLING THE FUNGUS SPREAD u need to get a presciption pill called '' Grifulvin '' and u need to take one a day for a month BEFORE U START USING THE POLISH , you need to at least stop the fungus from living PERIOD (this pill has a dozen side effects one mainly being migraines ALL DAY so just try to withstand them all) .... try this out it worked for me i suffered with TC for a year .... my nightmare is OVER .... and so should yours .... god bless"
Replies11/03/2010: Coregon from Medford, Or replies: "I would hesitate to use a dangerous combination of chemicals (nail polish) on the scalp when it is so close to the brain. For the same reason that many won't use commercial shampoos with chemicals, I believe nail polish on scalp should be avoided. I believe the same applies to prescription anti fungal creams on the scalp. Of course these products will be absorbed by the body.. The skin transports to the body whatever we apply to it. (see below) I've used white vinegar/distilled water (50/50) to very effectively clear up scalp. (pour on as final rinse in shower, or use with q-tips on sore spots) White iodine combined with vodka for hair growth.NEWS ARTICLE ON DANGERS OF NAIL POLISH:
"(NaturalNews) Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), a chemical used to keep nail polish from chipping, has been connected to cancer in lab animals as well as long-term fertility issues in newborn boys -- leaving the cosmetics industry in a heavy debate over whether to continue use of the ingredient. Environmental groups are calling for a ban on DBP in the United States, and some big name companies such as Estee Lauder have preemptively removed the chemical from their products, but other brands such as OPI, Essie and Sally Hansen continue to use it. While the FDA must approve nail polishes before they can be sold, there are no laws that require companies to prove their products are safe first."

01/07/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx, Usa: "My scalp has a very thick rough skin or crust plus bumps, sores. It is not red, does not itch nor does the crust flake off unless I pick (dig) it off (very hard to get off and bleeds when I do get it off, then comes right back. Derm says its not psoriasis. Might be folliculitis, but I took two months of antibiotics and it didn't work. Since it doesn't itch or flake, don't think it's dandruff or seborrheaic dermatitis or eczema. I have tried mixing the borax with apple cider vinegar, leaving it on for 30 minutes, then rinsing with the vinegar, leaving on coconut oil overnight, leaving on neem oil overnight, tamanu oil, tea tree oil, glycerin. I have tried each of these for 2 months before going on to the next. Nothing has worked. Any ideas about what it is and what to do?"
Replies01/08/2012: Linda from New Haven, Connecticut replies: "Helen, although I don't know what is causing this problem for you I think you might give the coconut oil another try but take it internally instead of externally. I've read many posts here that indicate that internal use gets the "cure" where the body needs it, not where we think we need it.Whatever is causing your scalp condition may be starting far from the top of your head & is simply a symptom of another underlying cause.
Try taking a tablespoon of pure unprocessed coconut oil two or three times a day. It is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial.
Good luck! "
01/08/2012: Kay from In The Valley, Ca replies: "Two things that I have had good success with for skin issues are lugol's iodine and castor oil from the health food store. One or both of these things might help. I wish you luck."
01/08/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx replies: "Thanks! I did try the white iodine and the castor oil 3 years ago when it started, with no results. I've been hesitant to use the Lugol's--I am 67 and have very white hair--since its all over my scalp, I'd have orange hair. Perhaps I'll try a tiny bit at the back."
01/08/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx replies: "To Linda: Yes, I've considered that it may be internal and I have been taking 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil per day and have been for years, even before this started. I shall try to increase it now. Thanks for the reply!"
01/09/2012: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Helen if you have white hair that means you have a copper deficiency. Google Joel Wallach. He has a great book. He says that copper deficiency will eventually lead to an anueryism. Farmers actually know that animals who lose the colour from their fur are copper deficient. I am not saying it is related to your scalp problem. Many pesticides used on our foods will actually deplete copper from the body."
01/09/2012: Kay from In The Valley, Ca replies: "Helen, I think orange hair is in now, isn't it??!!!"
01/10/2012: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "Hello Helen, Are you taking the lugol's internally as well as the coconut oil? Iodine is needed by your skin cells as well as many other organs. Maybe you could try a few drops internally before trying it on your hair:) I wouldn't want orange hair even if it is in right now:) But that's just me. Another thing you might try is Vit D3. Your skin needs it as well and right now during the winter months you could be deficient in it.There are also some diseases that can cause "skin thickening." One of them has to do with your adrenal glands so you may want to get them checked out just in case. It may not be a skin issue at all but rather something hormonal. Another disease that causes skin thickening or Myxoderma in this case is Hypothyroidism. I would get your levels tested to see for sure. Then even if you decide to use natural treatments you will know what you are up against. Dermatologists don't know anything about hormonal issues so see your general practitioner, or a naturalpath to get a good diagnosis. Then go from there."
01/11/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx replies: "Thanks, Jen I had my iodine levels checked and I'm ok there. And yes, I do have adrenal issues. I had one gland removed 17 years ago and take hydrocortisone daily as well as DHEA for replacement. And yes, I'm hypothyroid, too--take Armour Thyroid daily. Plus estrogen replacement in the form of compounded TriEst. Take 5000 IUs of Vitamin D. I've been taking all those for 17 years and get blood tests for all of those regularly. I never had a scalp condition until 2-3 years ago and I'm 67.I will research the adrenal stuff more and see what I can find about skin thickening. All my other skin is great. I do go to a great family physician who is willing to try new things, especially hormones. The derm was less than useful.
Thank you!"
01/11/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx replies: "Maybe for young folks! Not for late 60's!"
01/11/2012: Helen from Austin, Tx replies: "Thanks, I'll check on it; I do take a 2 mg copper supplement each day."
03/05/2012: Helen from Richmond, In replies: "I have had the same problem you have for at least 30 of my 58 years. I've tried everything to address this embarrassing problem. For entirely different reasons I gave up sugar completely, except for 2 fruits (not juice) a day about 4 weeks ago. My scalp has completely healed. No itching, bumps or smell. I will never eat sugar again. I can even use shampoo for normal hair! If only I had known this years ago."

06/08/2011: Dolphins7 from Youngstown, Ohio, United States: "I have been having Scalp issues for about 4 years. It started out with a cyst, but when that reduced bumps/pimples appeared near the base (so inbetween mid scalp and base). They eventually spread and went up the middle part of my scalp.
This problem has driven me crazy.. Through the years I have found techniques to help.. Sulfur 8 has helped clear up all the bumps that spread up my head... Whats left is what I began with. I feel like this area near the base is where I need to target. This area is also the most stubborn, ACV and Peroxide help on and off. Borax suprisingly helped a bunch, but the same 4 pop up in the same spot after awhile... I am a African American Male, I have cornrows (braided hair/long). I have a waterbed, and 2 Dogs (cocker Spaniels) I want to give you guys all the information I can give you. Again if anyone is having this issue try Sulfur 8.
I think the lower bumps/pimples do not clear because the fungus/bacteria is deeper in that region. I can get the inflimation down or even some to dissapear but when I wake up in the morning some will sprout up. Thank God for EarthClinic.. Can anybody help me? Do I need to continue to be diligent with the Apple Cider Vinegar and peroxide? Shampoo with Baking soda and borax? I have Tea tree but no lavender oil, is tea tree good alone? It has caused some slight hair loss at the base area I truly believe Im at the end of the race I just need some advice.. Some support. I stopped eating meat and im trying to alkalize.. Should I take supplements?"
06/08/2011: Julia from Hamilton, Ontario replies: "Hi, have you tryed Iodine solution? Medisca company produce pretty good Iodine and not expencive."
06/09/2011: Dolphins7 from Youngstown, Ohio, United States replies: "I recently bought some magnesium, zinc and iron pills.. I have turmeric as well.. Do you think iodine will be the final blow needed to defeat this monster? Has it helped with foliculitus before? I will give it a try thank you and God Bless."
06/09/2011: Joyce from Dallas, Tx replies: "I suffered with Seborheic Dermatitis since I was eleven years old and on into adulthood. I just dealt with it and lived with it, basically got used to it...Then about five years ago I read about losing weight with the Master Cleanse aka lemonade cleanse... And I did it for the full eleven days as required with the intention of losing weight, which I did but gained back... But the cool thing is that both my Exzema and Seb Dermatitis disappeared right after I did that cleanse!! I haven't had either one since and that is the only thing I did that made it disappear... So, I guess my body or my colon had been holding onto some toxin that could have been causing the skin outbreaks in the first place.
I had Seb Dermatitis since I was eleven years old and did the master cleanse at age 29.... It was like a huge relief!"
06/09/2011: Dolphins7 from Youngstown, Ohio, United States replies: "Not eating for 10 days scares me... I know its good for you and I know I probably have many toxins in my body throughout the years but 10 days? O_o... I also dont wanna lose too much weight but I may give it a shot. Thanks for the tip."
06/11/2011: Sheila from San Diego, Ca, Usa replies: "Chiming in: I've completed the Master Cleanse 3 times (full 10 days), and have completed 4 to 5 and 7 days of it throughout the years. Prior to find the Master Cleanse, I used to fast on weekends or during certain religious observance days. I'm in my 40's now, and the Master Cleanse isn't difficult if I'm prepared in advance -- having all of the supplies ready. At the 3rd or 4th day of the Cleanse was the most challenging for me. That's when my body felt like it was 're-booting' -- the hunger pangs may show up then -- it's the hump to get over. Read up on fasting, cleansing and anything else you may want to know about it, especially if you have pre-conditions and want re-assurance."
[YEA] 06/13/2011: Dolphins7 from Youngstown, Ohio, United States replies: "I DO think I need to cleanse my body... But im unsure if this will actually cure it, and I know at this point if I try it and it doesnt im going to have a nervous break down lol... I have tried alot of things, the borax seems to be working, I dont know if mine is Seb dermatitus tho.."
06/26/2011: Lara from Los Angeles, Ca, Usa replies: "I am dealing with a similar issue, so I wanted to reach out for support.I am beginning to wonder if this has to do with candida, so I went out and bought liquid pau d' arco--I have had great luck with it before--and making a tea by heating up a cupful of water and adding a dropper full of the tincture.
I am also going to take ACV (apple cider vinegar).
I will let you know how it goes.
Also, try reading all the posts for this condition-- there are many, many posts, so do some research.
Good luck and best wishes!
Lara"
06/30/2011: The Great Mr. Douglas from Youngstown, Ohio, United States replies: "Thanks Laura, as an update I think Ive found the final technique, and its extra virgin coconut oil, that plus the borax and Apple Cider Vinegar treatments and eating right (alkalization). Im not 100 but im close. I dont feel any bumps.. but some parts of my scalp are red, Im going to keep doing what Im doing, il pray for you and all the others who are going through this good luck."
09/14/2011: Edi from Bangalore, India replies: "Dolphin7 so what did finally helped you?"
09/17/2011: The Great Mr. Douglas from Youngstown, Ohio, United States replies: "Edi, Teds Borax remedies, have helped, I put borax in a bottle with water and a lil peroxide and showered with it or just applied... I would then feel in the back of my scalp and feel like the bumps would flake off. I had something else sprout up that I don't think was folliculitus but using idodine, Colloidal Silver and coconut oil helped...My final technique that helped alot was Yerba Mate, research it its a tea and I swear (idk how) applying it to the scalp when alkalized and applying coconut oil after reduced the hard bump to get rid of.. Also drinking it, it has cleansing effects and other benefits.... This bump drove me crazy all summer I was misdiagnosing it.. I still don't know what it was a cyst maybe??? idk Going through this made me learn so much but yeah. What I do is alkalize using Ted's methods shower using Apple Cider Vinegar and borax (I don;t combine I use seperate bottles). The Yerba Mate was the key in reducing the "cyst" type thing idk how it did it but it did.
My problem is I dont know exactly what I had so I can;t fully relate to your situation... These helped me.
(alkalized state)
1. Apple cider vinegar
2. Borax solutions
3. Yerba Mate
4. Coconut Oil
5. Colloidal Silver
6. Iodine (lugols)"

I have an itchy scalp. When I scratch I can feel little bumps. They're sometimes too sore to scratch. I may have folliculitis. What is a good natural remedy for this. I don't have the money to go to a dermatologist."
Replies05/06/2011: Jay from Toronto, Ont, Canada replies: "Lavon, an inexpensive remedy that should help you is organic coconut oil. Apply freely and massage into your hair and scalp before bed and wash out in morning. You should see improvement very quickly, within a few days."
