[YEA]  05/14/2006: Renee from Houston, TX writes: "Iodine cured my swollen saliva/throat glands. After 2 horrible nights of restless sleep. i found this website in searching for a cure (non-prescription) Iodine was suggested. So about noon today, painted the wrists and throat areas. I found Iodine at a local drug store. It was under $2. I took a one hour nap and already felt better. The prior two days, it hurt to swallow, it was horrible to eat or drink, burning sensation during both. I ate watermelon and when i would drink i would drink as fast as possible. by 2 pm i was at a soup and salads (buffet restaurant) enjoying soup, more fruit, drinking. it pretty much took care of my sore throat and swollen glands. i read here that it takes care of skin tags. i placed iodine on the 3 i have and hopefully they will be gone. i will report back as to whether or not it works, but as far as the initial success and how great i feel, i have a positive outlook."

[YEA]  02/07/2006: Quita from Atlanta, GA writes: "I had a severe sore throat recently (I could not even swallow) and my good friend suggested painting the inside of my wrist with iodine. I thought she was crazy. But it worked! The pain was completely gone the next morning. Shortly thereafter my son became sick with a bad cold. Although she recommended the iodine for a sore throat, I used it on my 3-year old and the next day he was 100% better. I googled iodine cures and discovered this site. I am convinced!"

[YEA]  Nita from St Pete, FL writes: "Iodine definitely works for me, however, I find it best to use the clear "decolorized" iodine, available at most drugstores. I paint it on the inside of the wrists (where the veins are closest to the skin) and on the sides of the throat."

[YEA]  Loni from Tallahassee, Fla writes: "Iodine is my drug of choice. I use it for EVERYTHING. I raise my kids and now my grandkids on iodine. My son was due to have his tonsils removed and I decided to paint his tonsils and he has never been had any more problems with his throat. I took a spray bottle and poured some iodine into the bottle and sprayed his tonsils. As you may know iodine dries quickly, so he didn't really swallow any. It worked within 24 hours after spraying the throat. I have done it for my sore throat and it clears it right up."

[YEA]  12/30/2006: Anonymous writes: "a mug half full of hot water. A good sized lemon. Cut in half (use a strainer or de seed if desired)squeeze lemon juice in to mug of hot water. And most important ingredient: HONEY. 2 TSP depending on how sweet you prefer. IMPORTANT FYI : When sick w/ a cold or flu try not to drink orange juice or apple juice they tend to en flame a sore throat. So since you must drink lots of fluids Gatorade/Powerade ,7up, teas (best if hot no caffeine too) but stay away from cold juices that are citric acid HOT IS BEST"

[NAY]  06/17/2006: Victoria from Tampa, FL writes: "You need to be careful when eating lemons or the juice from a lemon if you have a scratchy or dry throat at ALL. I am a singer and my doctor advised me to use a cool mist humidifier, drink water constantly, and suck on hard candy. Throat drops with menthol- BAD, lemons- BAD, and soup with salt- BAD. These will all dry the throat."

[YEA]  06/11/2006: Lud from Australia writes: "I tried the lemon sucking thing and I couldn't take it, so I went out to the back and found an orange that was safe to eat, but just a bit sour. It was pretty big, and by the time I finished it my throat was feeling a lot better."

[YEA]  05/02/2006: Danielle from Jupiter, FL writes: "SUCK ON A LEMON! Before I drank it I could barely breathe. Now my throat feels much better and it feels more opened up so I don't feel like I'm gagging. I took half of a lemon and squeezed the juice into a glass along with any of the pulp. Then I added some water and a lot of sugar because I don't like sour tastes and it works great and tastes even better!"

[YEA]  04/23/2006: Rob from Houston writes: "A very old woman from Oregon told me about this about 20 years ago, and it's got a 100% success rate so far, at least for me and the friends I've suggested it to.

To permanently cure most kinds of sore throats, you merely need to suck on a lemon. Use either one small lemon or a little more than one-half of a big lemon. Cut it into sections as you would an orange, and suck the juice out of each section. Try one more time an hour later if the sore throat still hasn't passed. If it's still sore after an hour after your second dose, you should strongly consider seeking medical assistance.

Lemon juice is very acidic, and can erode the enamel on your teeth, so I would recommend brushing your teeth soon afterwards. You can just drink lemon juice instead if you don't have an actual lemon handy. On one occasion I mixed about three-fourths of a cup of lemon juice with about 2 cups of water and gulping that down seemed to work just as well. After reading some of the other cures posted here, it occurred to me that gargling with a lemon juice / water mixture might have been a good idea. Merely having a glass of lemonade or two doesn't seem to work very well--I suppose because it doesn't have enough lemon juice in it. I feel that the idea is to assault your throat with the acidity of the lemon juice, and if you get enough down there at one time, the soreness just stops. I am no doctor, but I have not yet had a sore throat for the last 20 years or so that a lemon didn't permanently cure."

LEMON JUICE, GARLIC

1 YEA

[YEA]  03/28/2008: Marilyn from Cherry Hill, US writes: "I now understand the meaning of the old saying "prevention is worth a pound of cure". Doing this regularly once or twice a week may help prevent a sore throat. 8 to 10 oz. water with one lemon squeezed in the water. Drink this with a straw. The lemon may eat the enamel off your teeth so use the straw. If your throat is scratchy do this. Do it at the onset of a sore throat and use 600 to 900 mg of garlic tablets. I use 1200mg and some time 2000mg. Wala your cured of your sore throat. If you do this before you get this you can prevent it."

MALT VINEGAR, HONEY, LEMON, WATER

1 YEA

[YEA]  11/09/2007: Ryan Preston from Leicester, England, UK writes: "I can't really give much of a different song here, but what I done to cure my unbearable sore throat and runny nose (I'm still doing it) is by mixing up a concoction of malt vinegar (ACV is hard to get here), honey, lemon juice and water. That, within the last 10 mins of commencing this note has soothed my throat a lot. Now, to cure the runny noise, I made myself hot tea (NO MILK) and added honey and lemon juice, I mixed, then drank whilst it was hot. The runny nose problem is virtually abundant. And the sore throat should be, too. So... hot water, lemon juice, vinegar and honey do the trick!"
