I have been in the healing profession (practitioner, researcher, advocate) for 30 years, nothing comes close to my experience with MSM, I am so sorry it took this long to try it. My chronic asthma gone in 3 days!! On albuterol for almost 40 years. I am in shock.

Some side effects which I consider to be cleansing symptoms: nausea, sleeplessness and skin breakouts, but I did start on a high dose of 20 grams a day. After three weeks no more 'side effects'.

My energy has greatly increased, I feel quite euphoric every day now. The only time I had that kind of euphoria was by drinking three glasses of organic green juices a day. I think people on heavy medications, mercury fillings, toxic diet are going to have more difficulties with it, so building up from a small dose with extra vitamin C and plenty of pure water will help.

The other supplement that really helps is Vitamin D3, I take 16,000iu liquid daily, no colds for two years now and my chronic bronchitis of 20 years has disappeared. Some years it was mild, others severe, triggering serious asthma attacks.

So the combination of Vitamin and MSM has been miraculous for me. This great website encouraged me to try MSM. Thanks so much.

p.s. Brushing my teeth with MSM has whitened them.

Reading the website I wondered if I could get some info on what to do as the dissolving takes place from the inhalation of DMSO and ingestion of MSM. I have chronic bronchitis and as the permanent damage loosens it does not come out right way rather I go through severe choking spells both day and night, impossible to breath or expel enough to make a real difference. I also inhale essential oils 7 times a day in boiling water, almost four years now 15 broken ribs and one coughed out intestine. No relief. Am I doing something wrong or is this the process? Just wanting to know if I'm on the right track and will eventually break the bio film that holds the disease to my body. I understand, no guarantees just some helpful feedback would be nice at this point.

I am moved by your post to respond, even though your post is 12 years old and I suspect you will never see my answer. Maybe it will help someone else. I have something similar going on. Over several years, I have used antibiotics quite a number of times to no avail. I recently started taking Chlorine Dioxide. You can buy it on Amazon. It comes in two bottles. You mix two drops of each together in glass and wait about 45 seconds for it to active. The solution turns yellow. Then add 1/2 cup of clean, pure water and drink it. Do that up to 8 times a day. Move up to 3 drops of each solution when you can. So far, that is still too much for me. I am in my first month of treatment and am not completely cured, but I am about 85% better. The difference is remarkable. I believe in another month or so of following just this treatment that I will attain a full or nearly full recovery. My energy is returning and I feel so much better. I just bought some DMSO to add to my treatment regimen. If that helps I will come onto EC and comment.

Lessons Learned From An 80 Year-Old Nurse

Breathe steam! You can do that just by taking a hot shower, of course. Or pour steaming-hot water into a bowl and lean over it, draping a towel over your head. Inhaling the steam will help loosen the secretions in your lungs.

To make the steam treatment even more effective, add a few drops of eucalyptus or pine oil to the water. Eucalyptus helps to soften mucus in obstructed airways and has some antibacterial properties. (If you want to use eucalyptus leaves, simply boil them in a pot of water, then remove from the heat and inhale the steam.) Pine oil acts as an expectorant, so it will help you “bring up” phlegm from the bronchial tubes.

What did our Grandparent's use?

From Merck's 1899 Manual of the Materia Medica – Steam Inhalants

List of plant oils uses as inhalants for respiratory problems.

Note: 1 dram = about ¾ teaspoon

  • Eucalyptus oil – Bronchitis pg. 95,1 dram inhaled from hot water eases cough and lessens expectoration.
  • Pine (Pinus Sylvestris) – Bronchitis pg. 95,1 dram inhaled from hot water eases cough and lessens expectoration.
  • Thyme oil (Thymol) – Bronchitis pg. 95,1 dram inhaled from hot water eases cough and lessens expectoration.

Hello there! : I'm Colombian and I know what 'piloncillo' is: We call it "panela". It is a process to make sugar from sugar cane. First you have molasses, we call it 'melasa' it's the syrup or caramel from reducing the sugar cane juice. They pour it in moldings, let it solidify and that's 'piloncillo' you can get it in Hispanics Markets. After that they make brown sugar with it by using some bleaching and then it's converted in white sugar by more chemical bleaching.

Just know that piloncillo looks like a brown candy corn. In Mexico we use it for many remedies and for some reason it works better than using brown sugar. It also tastes differently so please, don't confuse it with brown sugar which is more processed. It comes in a cone shaped wrapped in clear plastic packaging and is dark brown in color and the way you use it is by cutting off a piece and boiling it with tea leaves. Mexican candied fruit like candied pears (peras en almibar) can be made this way and are delicious!

The title is misleading, the original title was Fig tree leaves tea. I just mentioned other names for piloncillo. In fact, I have used colombian panela which is more tasty than Jaggery. Thanks

Flour, Dry Mustard and Egg White

Cough and congested chest remedy. Three teaspoons of flour, one teaspoon of dry mustard and an egg white. My mom has a great remedy for a cough and chest cold. Three teaspoons of flour, one teaspoon of dry mustard and an egg white. Make a paste of theses ingredients. Then you should spread it on a white hankerchief or something very light weight and I assume dye free. YOu then should rub your chest with vaseline. (The paste is exothermic and can burn your chest.) After that you should place the hankerchier (with the paste foled inside) on your chest. Every so oftern chekc to see if you need to apply more vaseline (to prevent burning). Dress warmly when you rest and I promise when you wake up , you will be cough and chest-congestion free. My mother always did this for my nephew and I just did it for my 11 month old. He had congestion for a week, and the night I did this (after over the counter medicines) my son no longer had congestion or a cough. Try it. It really works.

I used this flour/yellow mustard/egg white technique on my two year old the other day to help with his severe chest congestion. I made it up, held it on w/ an elastic bandage, then went to researching exactly how long I should leave it on. There were extremely conflicting opinions - everything from "don't ever do this to a child" to "it's okay to leave on overnight." Well, I didn't want to do any harm, so I left it on about 45 minutes and then removed it. Within 5 minutes, he coughed up more mucous than I've ever seen in my whole life. So much, it made him throw up, but there was definately a ton of chest gunk everywhere. sorry...I know that's totally gross! but really, it was amazing and I can't be convinced that it wasn't the paste that did it. He still has some congestion, but I'm using alternative methods, as I have yet to decide on how safe this one is for children. However, it was incredibly effective for that one time - he was having very productive coughs for the rest of the day.

My family has been using mustard plasters for generations. Not only do they relieve chest congestion associated with a productive cough, but are also amazing when used in conjunction with a steamer for turning a dry caugh into a productive one. We have used them on children 3 years and older with amazing results! Until now I had never heard of mixing it with egg whites, as my family has always mixed it with hot water.

1tsp mustard powder, 3tsp flour, and enough hot water to make a thin paste. I find that a peice of old flannel bed sheet (double wrapped) works the best. Lay it on your chest for no more than 45 min to 1 hour at a time, less for sensitive skin.

CAUTION:I recomend checking skin every 15 minutes to ensure you don't burn. A little bit pink from the warmth and moisture is ok, and you should be able to feel a bit of heat from the mustard. If it gets uncomfortable, or if skin starts to go red take it off and wait until skin returns to normal. If it takes skin more than 30 minutes to return to normal, do not continue.

I hope this helps your family as much as it has helped mine! :)

I used to use this remedy. Few days ago I needed it and forgot about proportions. So I used about 2 or 3 tablespoons of mustard seed with 1 eggwhite, no flour. I could hold it for about 20 min. because it was burning, but it helped.

Next day I put flax seeds and mustard seeds in a coffee grinder and grind them. I put a lot of vaselina on my chest. Added warm/hot water to flaxseed and mustard seeds and put it on my chest in cheese cloth. I liked it better b/c it was already warm. Maya

Here is another recipe for making Garlic Salve.

I call it the “Quick & Dirty Method” and it's super simple to make.

My Aunt & Uncle (80's - unvaxxed) both came down with covid but my Aunt turned into Pneumonia because she won't follow directions and schedule for taking the medicines.

I used this salve along with herbal tinctures (my Cold and Flu Blend) internally and nebulizing colloidal silver/H2O2 to heal my relatives. This garlic salve is commonly called GOOT. It stands for Garlic Oil Ointment Treatment but there are many different recipes being posted on the internet which makes it confusing.

Here are a few basic rules when it comes to garlic. – Never apply raw undiluted garlic or its juice to the skin because it will burn the tissue.

– The Amish consider 2 garlic cloves as being a medical dose which means it has to be strong to be effective.– Garlic is the strongest natural anti-microbial known to man. Garlic loses up to 90% of its healing properties when cooked, so using raw garlic is key!

– Garlic is the most studied herb every. Garlic contains approximately 33 bioactive sulfur compounds, several enzymes and 17 amino acids. Garlic also does something that pharmaceutical antibiotics never do! Garlic can increase your immune system activity.

Studies have shown that it increases the natural killer cells of the immune system and reduces inflammatory cytokines (chemical messengers of the immune system).

– Louis Pasteur 1858 (the father of pasteurization), the well known microbiologist, reported that 1mm of garlic juice killed bacteria and he maintained it was effective even against some bacteria resistant to other factors. It was later discovered that one raw crushed clove of garlic contains the antibiotic equivalent of 100,000 units of penicillin and has been proven to be more effective than both penicillin and tetracycline in suppressing certain types of disease carrying agents. 100,000 Units = 60mg of penicillin.

– Researchers at Washington State University have found that the compounds in garlic are 100 times more effective than two popular antibiotics at fighting the Campylobacter bacterium, one of the most common causes of intestinal illness. Their work was published recently in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.

Are you impressed yet?

Materials needed:

– one head of garlic (peeled) cost .50cents. I like chinese white.

– one 7.5oz jar of coconut oil (liquefied) cost $1.25 at Dollartree, Butcher Boy Brand.

– an electric blender or single serve smoothie blender is what I use.

Method:

– Place peeled garlic into blender.

– Place coconut oil jar into a warm water bath so the solid coconut oil will liquefy.

– Once liquefied, add coconut oil to blender. Save C/O jar for putting finished mixture back into.

– Now blend C/O and Garlic bulbs together. You want the mixture to be finely minced. No chunks!

– Once blended, pour back into the C/O jar. Any excess oil can be put into a small bowl and used for first application.

Mixture will stay “potient” only for 2 weeks. Make new batch after 2 weeks if needed. It's that simple.

Why does GOOT works:

Coconut oil contains lauric acid that kills fungus, bacteria and viruses. Raw garlic is full of natural agents that help it function as an antibiotic, antiviral, anti-fungal, antiseptic and a germicide. Garlic is also known to be a diuretic which is helpful in combating water retention and helpful in flushing toxins out of the body. Garlic has the ability to be effective against Candida, parasites, and bacteria and viruses when it is applied. In addition, it treats systemic infections by absorption through the skin into the blood supply and travels throughout the body.

This powerhouse combo starts working almost immediately to attack the problem and begin healing the body. GOOT, rubbed into the skin, transfers raw garlic oil directly into the blood stream. Apply on the feet of children or infants to fight infections. Rub on chest for chest colds, cough, bronchitis, pneumonia or rub into and around nostrils for sinus infections. Rub on the soles of feet and put on socks overnite for cough or cold. Rub on sore painful joints since garlic has pain relieving properties, Place on cotton swab for ear infections. Apply directly to sores inside the mouth.

Rub on Athlete's foot or genital area for jock itch. Insert GOOT into affected area for yeast or other related infections. Apply on rashes any place. GOOT kills Candida, parasites, bad bacteria and virus by direct application. Also can be applied on bug bites. It is used as an anti-microbial ointment, and also as a poultice that helps put anti-biotic properties into your bloodstream when you are sick. I have put it on my lips when I have felt a cold sore coming on, and guess what? "no cold sore"....

In addition, it treats systemic infections by absorption through the skin into the blood supply and travels throughout the body. It can be applied to feet, chest, throat, temples, joints or massaged all over the body head-to-toe. Test the oil on a small patch of skin to make sure there is no skin reaction.

This treatment can be applied after a warm bath and left on overnight for maximum effect. Protect clothing, bedding, and furniture from this pungent oil. How to use: Yes you will smell like a garlic bulb….

* Respiratory Infections. Apply to chest, back, side and neck and on bottom feet (then cover with socks) every 2-3 hours as necessary.

* Arthritic joints. Rub into painful joints at nite before bed. * Ear infection. In its melted state, you can put drops into the ear canal and plug with cottonball. Apply it around the outer ear.

* Sinus infection. You can put drops into the nostril. Rub ointment over sinus cavities. Use caution around your eyes!

Homemade Garlic Salve for Coughs and Colds

The Most Effective Cure for Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Coughs, Colds, Ear Infections

This coconut garlic chest rub is my go-to when kids/adults have a chest cold. It works very well to boost immunity and break up mucus with colds and flu-like symptoms. I apply to my kid's chest, back, and bottom of their feet (then cover with socks). Garlic is a natural immune booster/anti-microbial and works to get rid of viruses, fungus, parasites and bacteria. The garlic is absorbed through the skin and starts going to work immediately. This rub smells like garlic. It can be used on small children and elderly.

You will need:

– 8 cloves garlic (I like chinese white), peeled and minced
– 1 cup coconut oil (liquefy it) or olive oil
– 10 drops oregano or thyme oil (optional but adds a punch to mixture)

Instructions:

Peel and mince garlic cloves. Allow to set for 25 minutes so the garlic juice is exposed to the oxygen in the air and converts to allicin (an anti-microbial compound).

Now, add minced garlic to a large coffee mug. Place mug inside of a larger pot and add water to the pot half way upto the coffee mug. Turn stove on medium heat. Add coconut oil to coffee mug and stir contents.

Leave pot on stove for one hour. Stir garlic-coconut about every 10 minutes. After one hour turn off stove and pour garlic-coconut mixture thru a strainer to remove pulp into storage container.

Allow to cool, apply to chest, back, neck, sole's of feet or anywhere on the body. Repeat every 2-3 hours until condition improves.

Garlic Syrup is great for most all lung disorders, including sore throat and hoarseness, coughs, asthma, lung congestion, difficulty in breathing, as well as chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. It greatly assists in loosening phlegm from the lungs through expectoration.

I am sharing this formula with EC readers. It has been around for a very long time; however, most people have never heard of it. I have used this formula myself with great results and I will guarantee you will too.

Garlic is a digestive stimulant, an internal antiseptic and a gland regulator. Indicated in cases of colds, asthma, diphtheria, chronic catarrh, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, malaria, worms, epilepsy, high blood pressure (take the oil of garlic), whooping cough, dropsy, fevers, gas, dyspepsia, hardening of the arteries, thyriod hypo-function, sinusitis, nerve depletion, and promotes the elimination and expectoration of phlegm and mucus. Garlic should not be eaten in any form if there is inflammation of the stomach and or bowels. – Medicinal Value of Natural Foods by Dr. W.H. Graves (D.C.)

Garlic has a beneficial effect on the lymphatic system, aiding in the elimination of noxious waste matter in the body, having the tendency to increase body-odor until such waste has been sufficiently eliminated. It is a valuable cleaner of the mucous membranes, particularly the lungs, the sinuses, the nose and the throat. For this reason it is a valuable food in pulmonary conditions, asthma, etc…

HI! Re: Hot Garlic Water and soaking feet in this!

My husband and I have been suffering for weeks with coughing and sore throat and my husband believes he has bronchitis as it's really going around here as everyone I talk to knows someone that has the problem. At Walmart the cold and flu aisle is packed. Well I read the post from 2007 about Hot Garlic Water and soaking my feet in it and covering up with a blanket and breathing the vapor in.

Posted by Hillary (Jonesboro, Georga) on 09/27/2007

After years of suffering with horrible bouts of bronchitis, a lady, claiming to be a "witch" told me to soak my feet in hot garlic water, blanket over myself and the bucket, to inhale steam. She told me to do this for at least 6 hrs. I did not have bronchitis for 5 years. It is time to do it again (and I will), but was wondering, has anyone else heard of this "method" and what is is called?

I figured what do I have to lose? I didn't try it for 6 hours as directed but I tried it until the water became cool. After I stopped using this solution my entire body became very warm! I had to take my pajama bottoms off and put on shorts I was so warm!

Then my husband tried the hot garlic water until it became cold. He was really coughing badly and spitting up mucus.

Well we both slept though the night without coughing! I woke up well! No sore throat. My husband has been sleeping sitting up for days due to coughing! He hardly coughed after soaking his feet in this and is currently sleeping (still sitting up)!

I didn't know how to make garlic water so I placed a handful of garlic cloves in hot water and boiled it and then placed this in the blender put it in a pail and added very hot water to it. (next time I'm going to crush the garlic and boil it) see what works best.

Anyway I can't believe this solution worked so well! Thank for posting it! Thanks Earthclinic!

Hello,

Well I have continued using the Hot Garlic Water

Every night and using a sheet like a tent over the solution to breath in the fumes. This seems to have gotten rid of my ear pain and throat pain!

I woke up the first day I tried it and felt wonderful. As did my husband. But later in the day the ear and throat pain still came on but not as bad as it was. It is like the ear and throat pain goes dormant and then sneaks up on me again. I have used this Hot Garlic Water for 3 nights before bed. This morning again the feel great and so far the throat and ear pain have not cropped up on me!

My husband is better only his issue seems to be asthma? He has had problem ever since the new neighbors moved in and started having BBQ parties on their patio and starting a bon-fire in a trash can! (their kids were throwing tumbleweed in the fire) The smoke entered out home and my husband seems to have been affected by this! We read that the smoke is like Creosote. I guess toxic!

Luckily they stopped using the bon-fire after my husband politely asked them if they could stop due to his coughing.

I'm going to have him use the Hot Garlic Water to see if it helps him like it did me!

My daughter had a laughing fit over the "witch" that suggested it!

Hi Blanche,

I only soaked my feet until the water cooled.

I am so much better for it though. Right now I feel totally well.

Sounds like a lot of work to do this for 6 hours?

But if it cures Pneumonia I would try it for 6 hours.

I had acute bronchitis for almost 5 months. I suffered quite a bit. I was given several doses of antibiotics nothing seemed to work. I tried ayurvedic medicines, and I found some relief but the cough was still there. That is when I tried the raw garlic few pods and chewed and ate it, followed by some water. I did it twice that day and the next day I was feeling so much better. I continued for 2 more days and stopped for a day and continued for 3 more days. so in a week my cough was completely gone. I thank earthclinic and all the users for their remedies. Thanks

I found garlic tablets (odor free) to cure pneumonia several years back. I kept getting infections over and over and recurring bronchitis, as well. But, within a few days of taking large doses of garlic (about 1000mg) my lungs cleared completely. I kept taking it for a while, just to be on the safe side. My lungs have been clear ever since, even though I only take it sporadically now. It's some good stuff!

This message is for JAY from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, or anybody who can be of help.

Jay, did you swallow the chopped garlic on an empty stomach, or did you eat before taking it? After swallowing it, and drinking the cup of water, what reaction followed in your body? Were there stomach cramps, hotness of the stomach, stooling or vomitting? Will this be good for a woman, that has lost a lot of weight, and has chest pain? Please, help me and GOD bless.

To: Abc Pneumonia from Kansas City, Missouri, Usa.

Let me try to answer your questions in order: "Jay, did you swallow the chopped garlic on an empty stomach, or did you eat before taking it? After swallowing it, and drinking the cup of water, what reaction followed in your body?"

Raw garlic is a broad-based natural antibiotic. The way I and others have used it to clear up chest /lung congestion is to crush and chop 2 medium or 3 small cloves and let sit for 5 minutes to let the enzymes start to work. Then I put these finely chopped pieces in a tablespoon and into my mouth. At this point I swallow as many times as necessary to swallow the complete amount of garlic and follow with 6 to 12 ounces of plain water. For me I do this on an empty stomach and have no after effects other than the obvious garlicy breath.

I followed this procedure daily for a couple of weeks and eliminated a lingering congestion problem that didn't seem to want to clear up on its own(which I thought might be leading to the more serious condition COPD.

Since then, at the first sign of any chest congestion I follow this procedure for a couple of days for a quick resolution of the problem.

To me the key elements of this treatment are 1. - raw garlic, 2. - crushing and chopping allows the enzymes to start working, 3. -continuing the treatment on a daily basis(and ignoring the social implications of garlic odour :) ) until original congestion symptoms are gone.

------

Your second question : "Were there stomach cramps, hotness of the stomach, stooling or vomitting."

I certainly have never experienced any of these reactions and would strongly suggest that anyone experiencing any of these stop the process and explore other treatment options. There are several other natural products that help eliminate chest congestion; garlic just happens to be very easy and very inexpensive.

------

Your third question: "Will this be good for a woman, that has lost a lot of weight, and has chest pain?"

Now this question confuses me as chest pain suggests a different problem entirely. The above addresses chest congestion which entails some breathing difficulty along with coughing up mucus/phlem with these symptoms persisting beyond the normal 1 week chest cold variety.

Chest pain needs a more detailed investigation and is not something that can be addressed properly via internet chat.

During the last few years bronchitis became a very serious problem. One year I spent coughing for 3 months. After trying numerous remedies I realised that raw garlic is the answer. I cured myself twice with garlic.I simply ate 3 cloves with my food. Now I use garlic as a prevention: As soon as I start coughing I immediately eat one or two cloves a day with my food. However, it has to be raw garlic. Powdered or pickled garlic does not work. Thank you so much for this website. Today I am putting in all the things that have helped me during my life.

I discovered that garlic cures acute bronchitis by accident...

I've been diagnosed with acute bronchitis and been sick for a month and two weeks and nothing seems to be working. It appeared as if I kept on getting relapses...

Growing up, I've always been told by mom that garlic is good for the health and what not. I've also been hearing it from others, tv, etc. But I've always thought it was just for minor things like a sniffle or so...

One day I decided to go "gung-ho" and chop fresh garlic into my salad. Maybe it was my primitival instict kicking in, but I thought that maybe strong dose of fresh garlic may do something. On the same day, I decided to include fresh garlic into everything - including my dinner pizza. The next day I started to feel better. I still wasn't sure if that was just a calming state before another relapse so I didn't jump into conclusion. Second day passed, Third day passed, and now I'm on my fifth day of feeling back to normal.

I then "googled" garlic and cures to read about garlic and its healing properties. That's when I found this site and discussion!

Thank you.

I've been using garlic for years for a variety of things. Usually I use it for colds. At the first sign of a cold, chop up 4 cloves of raw garlic and eat. I prefer to use it as a garnish on an already garlicy type food like soups or spaghettie, it helps make the taste not so obvious. Keep up with 4 cloves a day, then reduce the number as your symptoms decrease. This can stop a cold from manifesting, or it will shorten and weaken your colds. I used to have chronic bronchitis after every cold, now I haven't had it in years. I also only get one cold a year usually. Yeah, I don't smell great but I'm not missing so much work!

I will also use raw garlic juice on rashes and bug bites. It stops the itching immediately, and I pretty much use it for anytime I might need a phytoncide.
