10/01/2007: FR from NYC replies: "Hi, just wanted to share with you my cure for an infected gum -- hydrogen peroxide. Also wanted to respond to Subashini from Kuwait, because I may have an answer for her about the bad breath and oil pulling. My story (I'll try to be brief)... got a piece of food stuck in the gum behind one of my front teeth. No matter what I did -- floss, oil pull, swish peroxide -- it didn't come out. I then went to a new dentist last week to have my teeth cleaned and the stuck particle removed. Lucky me -- the hygenist was just filling in for the day and during the teeth cleaning part, said she saw something dislodge but then "lost sight of it". Okay, fine, I thought. That night I awoke in the middle of the night with terrible bad breath. It was so bad it actually woke me up. Yes, I do have sensitive smell!! When I looked at the right front tooth the next day, I noticed that the gum was severely swollen, from the tooth to the roof of the mouth. The bad breath also persisted. I started my holistic regime of oil pulling, then later swishing with hydrogen peroxide. The oil pulling, like Subashini said, made my breath worse. YUCK! I tried swishing with sea salt. No luck. Finally I had the idea a couple of days ago to soak a cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide and then hold it (tightly) to the swollen gum for 10 minutes. I also pinched another h202 soaked cotton ball to the back side of the tooth where the piece of food had initially lodged. Interestingly, it didn't hurt, but certain areas of the gum turned white. 10 minutes later the white had disappeared. Glad to say that my bad breath smell immediately disappeared and has not returned. My gum is looking a little better. A couple more days of this (soaked h202 2x a day) and I think I will be back to 100%. I highly suggest this technique if you have a tooth abcess or swollen gums from an infection. It is the best way for hydrogen to penetrate, otherwise it just turns to foam if you swish it around in your mouth.
So Subashini, I think your issue may be an infection somewhere in your gums that the oil pulling is bringing to the surface. Infection smells like dental plaque -- quite disgusting. My suggestion is to pull up your top lip (then pull down the bottom lip) in the mirror in daylight and look for redness in your gums. If you can pinpoint an area, then soak it with hydrogen peroxide cotton ball 2x a day for a day or two. I would predict that your issue of bad breath will immediately go away, even after you oil pull.
Oh, one more thing. You will need to bend over a sink whilst holding the cotton ball to your gums and let your saliva run out. You may need to do round 2 during the same session. Most importantly, you don't want to swallow anything! Rinse well afterwards. Hope this helps someone, somewhere. All My Best, FR"

[YEA] 09/25/2007: Jane from Greenfield, Iowa writes: "I have been oil pulling for about 4 months and have noticed results. Just this week I started to get a metal taste in my mouth and it takes a great deal of water to get rid of it. The oil is not turning white like it always has. I'm not doing anything different. I use Sesame oil - somethimes olive and coconut but mostly sesame. Any ideas what the problem is? I'm going to eat seaweed all week to get rid of toxic metal but why all of a sudden is this happening?"

The cut has closed over and all that's left is some dry skin, it's not red like it was. I've also noticed, my skin in general, ie. on my face is more soft and moisturized and my hands and face are less pale. Also, I would my mentality feels more alert."

[YEA] 09/06/2007: Candy from Riverdale, NY writes: "I started oil pulling with unrefined sesame oil 2 months ago, the inital results were great. My skin glowed exceptionally well. Then I read Ted's opinion on which oils work best, one of them being refined sunflower oil. I switched to sunflower oil and the results were unfavorable, my skin did not glow at all, as a matter of fact it looked quite dull. I stopped used sunflower oil and switched back to unrefined sesame oil. And my skin is glowing once more. I have been acne free since oil pulling and I've been sleeping soundingly too. I have recommended oil pulling to my sister who's had a loose tooth and the oil pulling has since reinforced her loose molar."

[YEA] 02/05/2007: Liz from Bangalore, India writes: "Hi, I've been oil pulling with sesame oil for over 2 months and it has helped me with my sinus condition, energy level, and to get past the flu season while everyone else got it. (Which is a surprise because I'm the first to catch a bug). But the thing is I stopped a few weeks ago, and I've developed allergies, itchy skin with welts and now I have discovered a swelling, in my breast. While my doctor says it can wait for 2 weeks before getting checked, I was wondering if there's any connection between my new conditions and the oil pulling. I am a little concerned, I'm not sure if I should continue or stop. I have mercury filling that actually chipped soon after I got it done (over 5 years ago) "
02/11/2009: Jenny from Nashville, TN USA replies: "To Liz from Bangalore: I've read that many side effects can take place once you stop oil pulling. Oil pulling "cleans" out your insides completely. You are even more prone to infections once you've stopped because your body has become dependent on OP to clean it and does not know what to do with all this "dirt" that suddenly seems to be entering your body. I have also read that because OP brings all infections/dirt to the surface, many people have gotten sick. But they continued OP and found that their body was now officially rid of the hidden sicknesses. I can't say if that's the case with you but I would suggest you continue with OP unless you have a legitimate reason to quit. It's not hurting you in any way so why stop? Hope this helps!"

[YEA] 02/03/2007: Darla from Tomball, TX writes: "I read about oil pulling on your site, we were looking up benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar, tried the pulling two days ago because everyone at work is getting sick. The first morning I did it, I could tell immediately during and after it was really helping to bring up the phlegm, I was alot more clear. Today was the second day and I am 100% clear and feel somewhat more energetic. I am using expeller pressed organic sesame seed oil for 15-20 mins each morning while bathing. I think its going to be great -- I will let you all know."

[YEA] 01/11/2007: Kelli from Silver City, NM writes: "Sesame oil 20 minute pulling with a teaspoon has cured headaches, and raised energy levels. I had OP sent to me in an email and gave it to my mom who is in her early 60's. She called me one morning and said that she woke up with a terrible headache, as she was going to the medicine cabinet she stopped and thought about trying the OP, she said that she sat down and swished for 20 min and before the time was up her headache was completely gone. Also she lives a ways out of town and rarely comes down without goog reason, she has been useing OP for over a week and has gone out with friends and made shopping trips. This may not sound like much, but to me I have my mom back, she is happier and more youthful than she has been in years. It is also helping with age spots she has recently gotten, they are fading at a visual rate. I highly recommend this to anyone who has tried healing on the outside, but may have negleted the inside. She also has said that her mouth feels fresher than ever. I started yesturday and look forward to any results as they seem to differ with different people."

[YEA] 01/11/2007: Lorelei from Utah writes: "After more than 2 months of oil pulling, I am ready to comment. I wanted to make sure I gave it enough time to see what would happen.
First, do NOT use unrefined oil! That was a big mistake! I spent the whole day trying not to barf. I used refined sesame oil after that. I swish for 10 mins, rinse, and swish for another 10 mins, then rinse with baking soda and salt in water (about a half tsp each in a few ounces), then rinse with just water. I only have the patience to do it once a day.
Within a few days, my teeth were white! This is amazing, because despite not drinking coffee, tea, cola, etc, my teeth stain very easily. They are also mostly plaque-free. My mouth is very healthy overall. Gums look healthier. I haven't had any canker sores either. I can't say that this has helped any other problems though. Still tired and have bags under my eyes. Still had an outbreak of cold sores. Still have psoriasis. Still have terrible periods. Still have dry feet! It has possibly kept me from catching my kids' myraid colds, etc. But that could also be due to cold(ish showers), echinacea, apple cider vinegar, or any other healthy thing I have started recently! I would recommend oil pulling though, just for mouth health alone."

[YEA] 01/03/2007: Sweet from Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, West Indies writes: "Dear EARTH CLINIC, Thank you for the information you share on your site. THANK YOU! I have been annoyed with acne for over 5 years. I will be 24 this month. It is most frustrating when I try everything (with caution) that others recommend that has worked to reduce acne for them, but no positive results for me. October 14, 2006 I did a search online for a "natural acne cure". I was amazed at all the natural remedies on your site. I was eating while reading about Oil Pulling, and felt an urgency to try it. I anxiously awaited a 5-hour period and finallly tried Oil Pulling for the first time, with the Sesame Oil from the kitchen. Needless to say, not a morning passes without me working this remedy. The first thing I noticed was the lack of a morning breath, and a continuous fresh breath throughout the day :-) Next, people started commenting on my 'bright smile'. I live in Trinidad (republic of Trinidad & Tobago) and usually have the worst sinus problems in November & December, yet the dreaded period passed without a sneeze or sniffle! I have more energy throughout the day, and it seems as though each day has an extra 2 hours or so. Last but not least, I still have new acne popping up, however, strangely, my face is noticeably smoother and cleaner, despite the marks from years of acne war. I have been visiting this site ever since October last, and have been recommending others to do the same. Oh, and my entire family and some friends have also started; I will let you know how it works for them. Thank you. **Sweet**"

[YEA] 12/12/2006: John from Daly City, CA writes: "Today is Tuesday. Last Friday night and Saturday morning I had increasing pain at the root of tooth #12, upper behind canine tooth. It was getting worse. I found your web page and read about oil pulling with sesame or sunflower seed oil. Saturday morning I bought 8 ounces of sesame oil and started pulling 1 table spoon in the morning and 1 tablespoon at night. Same on Sunday, and Monday. The result was immediate. The first result cut the pain in half, the in half again, and now I can feel only a little discomfort at the root of the tooth. I do not know how this works, but am grateful that it does!"

[YEA] 11/06/2006: Shakti from Chicago, IL writes: "Please post this where asthma sufferers can view it, this is important because I had a hard time finding a cure for asthma on your site but thank God I did. I began a regimen of oil pulling shortly after a lingering cold went to my lungs, I just couldn't get rid of the mucus. I prayed for relief. It got even worse after a chemical pesticide was sprayed in my home for pest control. The next day after the extermination I had the worst attack of my life, I couldn't stand it anymore, so after 10 years of not having to put any poison into my lungs I had to once again use an inhaler to control the attacks. After the second night of waking up feeling side effects of nervousness anxiety and panic I decided enough was enough. I went to the computer in the middle of the night and began hours of research to find a natural cure. That's how I found this miracle of a web site. The next day I went out a purchased some sesame oil and took one table spoon 3x a day at the onset of my asthma attack and Immediately after the very first dose the mucus expelled out of my longs, and within 10 minutes what had plagued me for over 10 years was no more. Since then If I have any tightening in my chest or shortness of breath I IMMEDIATELY do the oil pulling and the problem subsides in 10 minutes or less. ~~~Oh I'd be remiss if I did not mention the side effect, I took oil pulling for Bronchial Asthma but as a result I got a dazzling white smile, sinus relief, not to mention it remarkably helped to subside my symptoms PMS all unexpected but welcomed side effects. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! P.S. thanks my husband thanks you too, lol."

[YEA] 09/21/2006: Janette from St. Petersburg, FL writes: "i used sesame oil to relieve tooth pain until i could get to the dentist. i did it twice. it did seem to make the pain less painful, however, i don't think i will ever be able to eat sesame seeds again... it was hard to keep the oil in my mouth for 15-20 minutes, but when the pain is that bad, you will try anything."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 06/26/2009: Marina from Vancouver, Canada replies: "I did the oil pooling therapy with a top quality organic sesame oil last year for about 8 weeks, all I gaind was a very bad acid refulx, which I never ever had in my life. It took me half a year to cure it, I will never do pooling again"
03/01/2010: Cindy from Semmes, Alabama replies: "First of all, it's pulling, not pooling. Secondly, you shouldn't have stopped doing it. Obviously your body was detoxifying and getting rid of disease you didn't know you had (yet). Had you continued, eventually your body would have healed with the oil pulling."

[YEA] 09/04/2006: Annie from Stafford, VA writes: "I thought I'd post a comment after my first day's experience with oil pulling, for all of you fellow novices out there who are thinking about trying it. I used sesame oil because I couldn't find sunflower oil (which I had decided, before going shopping for oil, that I'd probably prefer). I was afraid that the taste of ANY of the oils would make me want to gag, but it didn't -- although I do find the warm, greasy feel of it in my mouth somewhat disgusting, and I wonder if it matters if I refrigerate the oil. My first session was soon after rising, on an empty stomach. After one whole minute of vigorous swishing/pulling, I was ready to spit -- and what I spat out was thin and white. I can hardly believe that it takes most folks 15-20 minutes for the oil to change consistency -- and I find it even harder to believe that most people are actually spending this long at it. If that is truly what is required for me to experience any real benefit, then it looks like I'm out of luck -- and my hat is off to those of you who can and do keep at the pulling for this long; you are hardier souls than I. Immediately after spitting out all that I could, I spent a few seconds swishing & pulling with hydrogen peroxide (which I do every day after brushing), and then I looked at my teeth in the mirror as if one oily minute would have brightened the appearance of my tooth enamel! I drink both coffee and red wine every day, though, and despite brushing, flossing, and rinsing with peroxide daily, my teeth are on the dingy side, but did seem ever so slightly brighter after the oil pulling -- or was it my imagination, and/or wishful thinking? I did a second session later this same day not quite two hours after a meal, and found it much more difficult to keep the oil in my mouth for even the one full minute without gagging, but I managed, and again what I spat was thin and white. Hereafter I plan to try to do at least the one minute every morning for a while, and will post again if I have any interesting results to report."
[YEA] 01/24/2009: Tina from Charlotte, Nc replies: "I was like you in the beginning, my gag reflex wouldn't allow me to keep the oil in my mouth for longer than 5 min. But after about 2 months of no oil pulling and watching my boyfriend continue his routine of it, i started it again. Make sure you are using cold pressed organic sesame oil refined. It does make a difference. Also slowly work your way up to 15-20 min. It also helps to do something while you are swishing... like watch tv or check your email."
01/30/2009: Dana from PDX, OR replies: "Try using less oil. I could not use 1 TBLS. I use about half. If I start to gag then I stop swishing and just held it until the sensation passed."

[YEA] 08/02/2006: Patricia from Astoria, NY writes: "Oil pulling has stabilized my overeating, reduced the itching due to eczema. I have also released 5 pounds in 10 days. I started pulling in mid July during a power failure that lasted 9 days. I started with roasted sesame oil which I loved but switched to cold pressed after reading a lot of testimonials on curezone. I pulled in the morning on an empty stomach and my mouth would fill with saliva after 15 minutes. I have since started pulling after 2 pm and after 5minutes the saliva is flowing. I then spit it out and do the pulling for another 15 minutes. I feel energetic. I haven't noticed my teeth getting any whiter. My face has lost its puffiness. There are some pimples that broke out since I began but their time on my face is short lived. I will write an update when new healings come to light. Peace, Patricia"

I started with Sesame Oil but found that Sunflower Oil worked just as well. I was able to eliminate the terribly sinus infection I had developed back in December which is why I started OP. However, I am now experiencing extreme tiredness that will not go away. I have thought about implementing Rhodiola into my regimen but I really don't know. I've tried oil pulling twice now with EVOO and have noticed a few positive results already (better skin, whiter teeth, lips not so dry and a generally slightly "lubricated" feeling - but didn't much like the taste of olive oil. I went and found some organic cold-pressed sunflower oil (Took a while as no supermarkets sell it cold pressed and they don't state whether it's refined or not - eventually found it in a small health food shop) but to my annoyance I got it back and found it was unrefined - aarg! I thought the preferred oil was cold pressed and refined? Would it be better to get normal sunflower cooking oil from the supermarket? confused! help! xx"
03/10/2010: Lee from New York, New York replies: "I think you do want unrefined oil. I've tried all of the oils and you could add some clove, peppermint, or oregano oil to the EVOO to help the taste. Good luck!"

[YEA] 03/07/2010: Manjeet Singh from Singapore writes: "Oil Pulling - Sunflower Oil
I began my Oil Puling on Dec 12th, just short of three months ago.
The main reason why I started was not because I had any major problem though there were some minor issues which I did not place much importance on and frankly was not looking at to seeing any change. What I really interested to see a change in was in my Belly Spare Tyre, which has seen none thus far.
However, I am very happy to report that I have seen positive changes that have taken place in me. First of all, I used to have cracked heels together with very very dry soles with very poor elasticity; so poor that if I was to step on an uneven surface, I would have tears in my soles which would take quite some time in healing and in the process of which I suffered in pain.
Today I am very happy to say that I have absolutely NO cracked heels; my heels are perfectly smooth and my soles though there are very tine traces of dryness are also clear and with the elasticity back in order. Can they be better - definitely yes as, though smooth, there is still some dryness but I neither have to scrub my heels to make them smooth or suffer from tears in my soles.
Secondly, still on my feet...for the past three decades (since 1980) I have suffered from atheletes feet i.e. rotting between the little fingers of the feet. It was so bad that it had got to be fungal in nature with deep rooted infection. Nothing helped me...Raw Honey was my best assistant but it was only while and as long as I applied it that I was relieved. When I left it, the problem returned again and my feet would stink because the flesh between the fingers was rotting and at times it was pain bad.
For the past three months since I started OP, I have not used Honey or any other antiseptic or antifungal and I am very happy to say that my feet have stopped smelling or rotting. However, I have to say that the problem is not 100% solved for though the total effected area had reduced by almost 60-70%, some whiteness still shows especially when I remove my shoes after a full days work. But my feet definitely DO NOT smell nor hurt any more.
Thirdly, I had a few head sores on my head (I am a practicing Sikh and my religion requires me to maintain unshorn hair which I have had for the past 65 years). The problem was not a serious one but at times when I perspired more than normal, it would get very itchy. Once again, though not absolutely solved, this third problem is also in good state of control at about 50% improvement.
Fourthly, I noticed that my tongue was definitely cleaner with the whiteness getting less and less as the days went by. Just to experiment, I stopped brushing my teeth for two weeks and I was very pleasantly surp[rised to note that my mouth did not have any offensive odour and nor was there any build-up of plaque on my teeth. However, I gave it up and restarted brushing my teeth as i noticed some inflamation at my gums. I plan to give it another try soon as I want to stop using floride filled toothpastes.
This all for now...I can't thank Earth Clinic enough. I hope to return to report further as I see changes.
For now, could someone please tell me where to get Coconut Oil in Singapore/Malaysia and also what do the initials MSM refer to!
Thank You.
Manjeet"

Should I carry on with the OP while taking the antibiotic and should I keep using the sunflower oil, or change to a different oil?"
03/04/2010: Linda from York County, Maine, Usa replies: "Hi Beth - with regard to your diarrhea, I would sooner think it's from the antibiotic than the oil; I was quite ill once from using a vaginal antibiotic ointment-it took almost three weeks to get my bowels back to normal! I call antibiotics 'bad news' and hope you feel better soon. For what it's worth, I'm of the opinion that if you are going to complete the course of antibiotic you might want to let your body recover before trying anything new, such as the OP - just a thought!"
03/06/2010: Beth from Dublin, Ireland replies: "Hi Linda, thanks for your reply, I think you may be right about the antibiotic being responsible for the diarrhea, as I still have it, but I finish with the antibiotic's today....... so I will start doing the OP tomorrow. Beth."

02/17/2010: Zare from Laval, Quebec, Canada writes: "Hello everyone !!
I'd like to start off by saying, what an amazing site !! I'm 23 years old and in good health except for the fact that I get seizures sometimes. I am curently taking dilantin for this. I actually just started Oil Pulling today. I don't quite know if I'm doing it ok, but from evryone's explanation, sounds like I'm on the right track. I am actually using pure Sunflower oil purchased at my local grocery store. Doesn't say what type of pressed it is but I'm still looking to see what this oil can do. I swished with 1 Tsp for about 20 minutes, rinsed, brushed my teeth. I was wondering, is it ok to do this only at night? Or do I really have to do it in the morning? Thanks !!! And again, amazing site, learning a lot !!"
02/18/2010: Knute from Sacramento, Ca replies: "Overall, it's more effective to oil pull before breakfast. However, if you absolutely can't oil pull in the morning,it's much better to do it at night before dinner, than not at all.
However, the best would be to find a way to oil pull the morning.
Remember, you can oil pull while doing any of the following:
Taking a shower, shaving, reading the news paper, doing simple morning chores, checking email or checking the latest on the internet, or anything else that does not involve eating or speaking...
However, do remember to rinse afterwards. With baking soda or a baking soda/salt combination in luke warm water - plus, apply some baking soda on the toothbrush, and brush the oral area gently, including the tongue. But that should not take more than a couple of minutes, in extra time, compared to what you already are doing. Just saying that, in this perspective, lack of time is not a reason why oil pulling can not be done.Enjoy your (health and your) oil pulling!"

Initially, I saw remarkable improvement in the conditions but now the conditions on my upper teeth and gum seems to be getting worse- at least that's what I feel. Upper teeth and gum were the most infected all these years anyway. I was told that Oil Pulling may be considered to be working if the conditions become worse. Does it mean that Oil Pulling is actually working for me? Please could someone give me your honest feedback?"
