Natural Asthma Remedies: Effective Herbal & Supplement Relief

Buteyko Breathing Method

Asthma - I have had wonderful results with the Buteyko Method which helped me manage my asthma especially the wheezing and constricted breathing which kept me awake at night. It worked within 2 or 3 days although I do recommend practising it for at least a month and on and off till the inflamation subsides. I now manage to exercise and can have a good bellylaugh again. It is believed that a low % of CO2 in the lungs - less than 6% - has a detrimental effect on the dilation of the bronchioli and the presence of inflammation increases mucus which further inhibits breathing. I followed and I recommend being pretty diligent for the first 5 days of the exercises it is worth it. Just google/youtube Buteyko and good luck!

I also faithfully drank a litre of tea made from liquorice root (adrenal stress), rose-hip (helps with lung tissue inflammation) and ginseng (beneficial for respiritory problems) for about 6 months. I found it to be very energising.

Pycnogenol is one of my favorite supplements.. Unfortunately it is a little pricey. I haven't made the connection but yes, I have gone for long periods without needing a puff of the inhaler... And this may be the reason... (many factors are at play... The visiting neighbor's cat etc. ) but I believe it does help. Also, great for skin and eye health..

Dietary Changes

Apple cider vinegar made my asthma worse. At first I thought it was just a detoxification reaction, so I toughed it out and kept using it while I did vegetable juice fasts and ate super healthy. But my breathing just got worse, so I stopped. I did elimination diets for a long time and after two years of trying to figure out what was the problem I found out it was SULFUR! ACV is loaded with sulfur, along with other common things such as chocolate, dairy, onions, garlic, eggs, broccoli, cabbage, stratospheric aerosol geoengineering chemicals being sprayed in the air everyday, and stinky things like fermaldahyd in perfume. Apparently, 5% of asthmatics have a sulfur sensitivity. It's not the same as an allergy, but it could be caused by mercury poisoning or even genetic problems with methylation pathways. So when I don't eat sulfur foods, I breathe better. Unfortunately, I can't get away from the stratospheric aerosol geoengineering pollution so I can no longer leave my home or go outside without an uncomfortable gas mask. I now have a nebulizer and very powerful air cleaners. The meds all made things worse I don't use anything but albuterol now. Anyways, eliminating sulfur, sulfates and sulfites, including all preservatives may be beneficial, if sulfur sensitivity is the problem (hey, 5% chance! )

H2O2 Inhalation Therapy

Ja: Dido on Mmsg recommendation.

Is the chem odor you smell something like Ammonia???; this happened to me using nebulized Colloidal Silver, but I am thankfully over that now.

First, try greatly improving the air quality in your home. HEPA filters and Negative Ion Generators should help.

There are a number of herbal supplements specifically formulated to improve lung function, worth trying. Swanson Foods sells a very old Chinese formula containing many herbs that have helped many folks, a really superior product worth trying (I think it's labeled "Lung Essentials").

Try boosting your natural defenses with Wheat Sprouts.

Please update us how your doing.

Ja, try: 1. Using food grade h2o2. 2. Try diluting it a LOT. For example try ONE drop in distilled water for a start.

H2OH Inhalation for Asthma: The first time I tried the h2oh in my neb, I didnt have the unstabilized kind, but was desperate and used one with a stabilizer. It worked instantly. I went and food the arron brands and started using that. Since then, Every time I try to start the treatment I get really really bad reactions. My asthma gets worse than ever, my heart rate goes crazy going from 40-100 bpm at random, and one one very bad night it was racing and then stopping for about 4 beats. At first I thought the asthma attack were coinciding with my efforts, but after trying so many times, I think it is a result. I have always had some sort of allergy to mold but was never diagnosed by a doctor. I was traveling in Boston at the age of twenty when the first bad attack happened and went to the er around there. They x-rayed my lungs and said there were no signs of asthma but thats the diagnosis because my symptoms point that way. Suddenly getting asthma at the age of twenty seemed like a joke to me!! Isnt that what a 20 year old girl dreams of? I imagined wearing an inhaler on a neclace. Since these reactions, I am wondering if I have some sort of fungus or virus in my lungs, and they are reacting spitefully to the threat of thier environment the excess oxygen is bringing? I did cough up a lot of mucus and some bloody mucus or clots.

Every time I try the treatment I end up having to get an rx for prednisone because I can't take how bad the asthma is. I get really erratic and upset, maybe the lack of oxygen? I also get a chemical smell when my asthma is at its worse. I thought it was my car, but I get whiffs of it everywhere and no one else can smell it. The only chemical I use is mouse in the roots of my hair, don't even use body wash (got a three year skin allergic reaction, not taking that chance again), homemade pure laundry detergent, etc.

Any ideas of how I can safely use the h20h, what the smell is, and if my asthma is really some sort of infection? It has been five years now, the only time I did not have asthma was when I was pregnant and breastfeeding.

Love the tips on ph balanced! Want to add that everyone is talking about raw, organic apple cider vinegar with the "mother". My kids hate it and it burns, so I started putting it in empty capsules with an eye dropper. You just have to swallow immediately or the capsules will deteriorate quickly. They take it quite easily now! (We use "0" sized capsules.)

Oil Pulling

I'm been doing oil pulling ( oil and 3 drop Thyme oil mixed in) for few days, my breathing is better. Now I'm thinking that since all root canals leak infection supposedly. Perhaps the shortness of breath is due to this issue. I'm seeing a holistic dentist next week to discuss having them removed and redone the correct way.

Robert, you don't have to give it up totally, you can do breathing-thru-a-mouthful of the diluted HP. I do about 6 breaths at a time (number taken from Bill Monroe) and it DOES help any and all respiratory/lung ailments for me. Once or twice a day (more if i'm really needing it) is usually enough to knock out whatever shouldn't be there.

With great reluctance, I have little choice but to discontinue day & night nebulizer treatments. This choice has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the combination, but with my extremely long days and the need to choose another option that requires less time than a 20-25 minutes session twice a day.

This method has shown me not just improvement with clearing the lungs, but additional energy within a short while after completion. I would recommend this to all.

I drank a 12 pack of diet soda every day for 20 years, I was overweight had adult onset asthma, migrains, autoimmune issues, couldn't lose weight. Had random allergic reactions like my throat closing up, or wheezing myself to sleep every single night, when I eliminated all artificial sweetners, aspartame, succrolose etc. I was completely cured of asthma, no more migrains and instantly dropped 25 lbs without effort that was the only thing I changed was removing the awful poisonous artificial sweetners that almost killed me. Its been 2 years and I sincerly believe it was the cause of my lupis symtoms and I feel so much better but was addicted to them and didnt have a clue that they were making me so sick so if you have asthma quit the aspartame and succrolose and be amazed.

After going thru countless posts including older posts from Ted, I decided to give HP therapy a try.

Here in the Houston area, I couldn't find 35% FGHP but, was able to find 3% FGHP mixed with distilled water at Whole Foods. I continued to reduce the percentage to 1/2 to 1 percent (with more distilled water) and added 5ml to my nebulizer.

This method of treatment has started to clear my lungs. One thing I have discovered: when I do a neb treatment at night, I must go to bed immediately afterwards. This will allow me to get a sound nights sleep, waking up feeling refreshed, no matter how short the night. If I take the treatment and wait 15-20 minutes, I am awake the majority of the night.

I take the neb treatment morning and night. Ted has spoken about a small amount of Baking Soda added to the HP will further improve on the HP's effectiveness, so I will be adding a 1/4 teaspoon to the full bottle mixture (1/2 oz. 3% HP and 5. 5 oz. Distilled water). I will update in a month.

I am just recovering from a nasty virus which caused my asthma and sinus congestion to worsen. A doctor prescribed a steroid inhaler, but I reacted badly to it. I began a 1% hydrogen peroxide inhalation via the mouth with a nasal spray pump (5 pumps per inhale, 5 times daily). I'm also taking 600 mg extended release guaifenesin (Mucinex) with no other active ingredients, to loosen things up. After only 3 days, I'm feeling tremendously improved. My coughing is much less than even before I became ill. My sinuses are clearer and so are my thoughts.

While I believe there are limits to how long and often one should do this, I absolutely can't argue with its effectiveness. I'm hopeful that this awful 3 year battle with asthma and 25 year battle with sinus congestion may be ending. I've researched endlessly and over the years have tried so many supplements and herbs that just didn't help. My advice to anyone trying this is to ease into it a bit and never start with a 3% solution. I doubt I will ever go stronger than 1% because my body reacts strongly to medications.

Many people are afraid of hydrogen peroxide because strong solutions are so dangerous. As with so many compounds, whether something is a poison or a medicine is all about the concentration. I learned this once when I put straight 3% hydrogen peroxide in my ultrasonic humidifier and inhaled the mist deeply and repeatedly. My breathing started shutting down and I was barely able to inhale enough albuterol to stop the attack. I think people just have to be smart about things and shouldn't go overboard. And I definitely recommend trying this approach long enough and frequently enough to see what it can do.

I believe allergies play a part in asthma and sinus problems, with the secretions in sinus and lung tisssues forming a material which gradually is populated by microorganisms from the environment and ultimately creates a biofilm. Biofilms can become highly impenetrable to drugs, a problem which is the target of much medical research.

My hope is that the 1% hydrogen peroxide inhalations will be the means of killing the bugs which are probably residing in films in my lungs and sinuses and causing my asthma. I believe taking the guaifenesin and drinking plenty of water is important in helping to move out those problematic secretions--killing the bugs is good, but getting rid of the gunk makes it even better.

Adjust Your pH

For asthma, your bottom line is your PH levels. I am willing to bet you have been eating other sugars. Everyone has around these cooler months we do every year even myself. If I eat a piece of candy it throws me into a asthma attack, yes I made the same mistae. Sugar is worse than heroine they say. Sometimes I believe it, I cant stay away from it. I know the golden rule and still donr follow it. My ph balance is my bottom line, if you have a healt problem it started with your PH balance being to acidic. Even cancer. You have to use a 70/30% ratio on the food. 70%veggie and 30 meat, sugar stuff.

To get your PH back is a 5 day no sweets/cokes/carbs watch what you eat. Hard to do cold turkey so it needs a little help. Apple cider vinegar helps raise it back to ward 7.4 PH balance.1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in water before bed helps once twice a week. It is also alkaline. Dont drink anything but water after the baking soda, defeats the purpose. Just remember your PH balance is your bottom line. Fungus, bacteria, virus, cancer all love a acidic state. They sell PH strips online if you need a visual. It would be good for you to also look up alkaline and acid foods, so you know what you ate that caused it. hope I helped.

Buteyko Breathing Method

I don't feel I'm exaggerating when I say the Buteyko method is lifesaving. Upon menopause I developed asthma that I could not get under control and was not clear as to the cause. The best I could determine was that it was related to acid reflux, a not well known condition called silent GERD. All the natural remedies I was trying were not helping. I had seen Buteyko mentioned on this forum but didn't think it would work for me since this didn't appear to be a regular case of asthma.

Out of desperation - it got so bad I could barely climb the stairs, I had to lean on the counter while doing dishes, and would get out of breath while walking the dog. I was using my inhaler 6 - 8 times a day. I looked for a demo of Buteyko method on YouTube and from the few short clips I watched, I was able to get relief almost immediately. By trying what I had observed over the next week or so, I saw vast improvement. I figured I should buy the program book/dvd so I could do the exercises properly, so I purchased the program by Patrick McKeown that other posters have mentioned here.

It's been about two weeks and I'm only using the inhaler once per day - and that is after I've gone a number of hours not doing any of the exercises.

The premise of the program: asthma and some other respiratory conditions are our body's reaction to overbreathing or hyperventilating. We are breathing through our mouths and taking in more oxygen which disrupts the balance of oxygen to CO2. In order to conserve the CO2, our airways constrict and plug with mucus. To overcome this, the method teaches us to breathe through our nose and shows how to clear our nose when stuffy. To balance out the oxygen to CO2 mix, we practise a few seconds of breath holds or control pauses. It may seem daunting at first to asthmatics who fear the feeling of not getting enough air, but the exercises quickly enable you to master your breath and control your asthma rather than it control you.

This program can easily be used by children as well. It works - I am so thankful I finally found relief!

I was suffering from Asthma for the past 10 years. Before taking 35% Hydrogen Peroxide food grade, I can't walk up to 50 meters and felt very exhausted and breathed heavily.

4 months ago, after reading the forums from Earth Clinic, I started taking 35% Hydrogen Peroxide fg. Begin with 1 drop until reached 6 drops, 2 times /day, I did not increase the dosage because I don't have time to do it everyday. Sometimes I stop for 1 or 2 days a week due to work schedule.

Incredible things happen, now I can run for 50 meters and walk for hours. Though it is still not fully cured yet, but I am happy now, and will continue taking it as what I have done, hopefully, I will get cured from Asthma any time soon.

I recommend to friends the beautiful things about 35% Hydrogen Peroxide fg. The response is very excited, more and more friends go for alternative treatment. This not only save a lot of money but see the results quite fast.

As a mother with a son with severe asthma who was always in and out of the hospital with life threating problems. Taking the typical treatments that never seemed to work completely. I began desperately looking in different avenues for help for him. My son is a married man with 3 children, and I was contstantly worried he would not live to see his children grown.

A little over a year ago my son got pneumonia (which he got yearly) this time it was worse nothing was working for him. Some how I started reading about hydrogen peroxide food grade and the many benefits it has had on many people I went and bought the HP gave him a paper on how to use it internally, he also put it in a cool mist humidifier at night when he sleep 1oz food grade HP to a gallon of distilled water, and he used it in his nebulizer, I am here to tell you it cured his pneumonia completely he has not entered a hospital in over a year he can actually function as a real person again his asthma is under control and he preaches about this to everyone. This was so miraculous for him and everyone who knows him cannot believe what it has done for him.. We are praising God for this. I wanted to share this with others becasue this is one of the sites I learned about HP thank you for your testimonies it helped my son. He of course still take HP by mouth and continues to use it in his nebulizer and humidifier

God Bless, Phyllis

Asthma can be caused by fungul and bacterial sinusitus. The fungus and bacteria drip down your throat and into your lungs and cause asthma. This type of asthma is often misdiagnosed. Mine was misdiagnosed for two years by several pulmonologists. Then I went to an allergist who really listened to how it started with a horrible almost violent allergy attack and correctly diagnosed it. Turns out I was exposed to fungus and bacteria from illegal construction in my apartment building where the terrible developer opened up water damaged walls without enclosing them. This released the fungus and bacteria which lodged in my sinuses. The pulmonologists treated my lungs and not my sinuses. Its treated by getting rid of the fungus and bacteria in the sinuses through drugs and surgery. The drainage causes a cough. I've had 3 surgeries and used lots of drugs but because I was misdiagnosed for two years the fungus and bacteria are deeply embedded in my respitory system now and very hard to get rid of. I am holding it down (not eliminating it) and controlling the cough by using a Neil Med with 1 extra strength Neil Med packet, 8 drops of garlic extract, 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract, six drops of hydrogen peroxide 3 times a day. Its not perfect but it helps.

Multiple Remedies

I am nearly 43 years old, and I'm a lifelong asthmatic. Instead of "growing out of it", I've had to endure increased asthma problems during adulthood. My situation has worsened again because I got the flu about 5 years ago, and I have severe acid reflux. I get bronchitis very regularly, and when I haven't been diagnosed with it, I still don't breathe freely.

Approximately 3 months ago, one of my mother's friends recommended remedies, from a popular home shopping network, for Acid Reflux. The main remedies are: CoQ10 and N-Acetyl Cysteine. I started taking 4 CoQ10 (100 mg capsules) and 4 NAC (500 mg capsules) in the morning. I usually take the NAC once or twice again during the day. They did not stop my Acid Reflux, but they did greatly reduce my asthma symptoms. For real.

I ran out of the very expensive CoQ10 once, so I bought a less expensive brand at my local mega-market (yes, that one), which worked just as well.

During the 3 months that I've been taking these two remedies, I've only used my nebulizer once (before, I used it 4 times/day), and my inhalers approximately 4 times. I haven't used inhalers in about 3 weeks. That is progress.

I'm not touting these supplements as a cure, because I have to keep taking them to get the benefits. That's fine with me. Every day, I'm shocked and delighted to be breathing freely!

Just focusing on breathing through my nose has helped my asthma soooo much. I had no idea I took so much air through my mouth until I tried to stop doing it! It's particularly difficult when eating, talking, laughing, coughing, exercising, etc. , but I would encourage anyone with asthma due to airbourne allergies to give it a try. I haven't had to take my rescue inhaler since I started it, and I feel so much better and have much more energy.

Have been remiss and never said thanks to Bill. I had chronic asthma, using 2 different inhalers from VA, 3 snorts am and pm. Started inhaling peroxide about 5 years ago, initially had some throat irritation. Stopped for a week and restarted at half strength. Figured it was coating on back of my throat from years of inhaling. Did 50% for a week and then full strength. Still have my 3 refills from VA in linen closet as a reminder. On a recent visit annual vist to VA I got a new female MD, She almost had a cow when I told her how I cured asthma, in so many words she said "impossible and insisted that I take a rescue inhaler which I returned unopened when they arrived.

My wife of 55 years has had a chronic minor cough, which may have been a throw back to when she smoked. She had heart problems 7 years ago and quit. A few months ago I got her started on using a small inhaler and keeping it on a table next to her TV chair. The cough is now non existent. My sincere thanks Bill and I know the good Lord has blessed you for your efforts. Jim
