Remedy Combinations

We love a number of natural supplements and remedies on their own, but sometimes pairing or otherwise combining certain natural ingredients can be even more beneficial to your health than a single remedy on its own. Often, chemical components in some remedies are activated by components in other foods or supplements. Likewise, an alkaline or acid environment may help absorption of other remedies.

The addition of black pepper to remedies using turmeric is a consistent and scientifically proven remedy combination. Earth Clinic's number one remedy, apple cider vinegar, is also frequently combined with baking soda, cayenne, blackstrap molasses, and other home remedies to provide an even more effective natural cure for what ails you!

ACV Combinations

Posted by Trudyg (Xxx, Yyy) on 07/09/2013

I've been taking Apple Cider Vinegar daily for quite some time. I also take baking soda to alkalize and I take a 'fingertip' of borax. Then I read to take molasses for my insomnia--it also should help with my arthritis and migraines. So, my question is, can I combine all this into one mixture so I'm not drinking so much fluid? I can drink 1/2 cup of water and I pee within 5 minutes. I pee a lot, and often. the Apple Cider Vinegar helps to slow that down, but I can't be leaving my desk that often and have insomnia anyway so I don't want to be up at night. If they can be combined it would help, but I know that some things should be taken apart from each other. Thanks.

ACV, Blackstrap Molasses, Coconut Oil, Coffee

I drink 2 cups of coffee every morninig. The first cup I add coconut oil. The second cup I add blackstrap molasses. Can I add ACV to either of these? If so, which one would it be more beneficial to add it to. Thanks in advance.

Hi - I only have one cup of coffee, so I add the unsulphered blackstrapped molasses and the organic virgin coconut oil to it together. They are very complimentary tastes.

As for the ACV in coffee....

It sounds like something that would work.

I just add my (1oz) Apple Cider Vinegar and (1/2 teaspoon) of baking soda together and (when done fizzing! ) add them to an 8-10 ounce glass of water. I actually like the taste now.... (it is an AQUIRED taste, to be certain! ) I find it quite soothing to my insides as I feel it going down my gullet. ;-)

I just don't like the thought of the ACV with coffee, it sounds maybe a little too acidic.... But that is just my tastebuds talking. ;-)

Carly :-)

ACV, Blackstrap Molasses, Grapefruit Juice

I've been taking molasses and ACV w/ 1 cup of grapefruit juice in the morning, then ACV and grapefruit juice before I eat a meal.

The nodes on my hands have nearly disappeared but now I have pain I my hips and my knees. It seems to be more from a swelling that appears behind my kneecaps and not in the joints. I'm unsure of the hip pain. I've never had pain in these places before and now I'm worried I harmed myself with drinking these combinations. Can anybody help me with suggestions?

Wendy: Grapefruit is notorious for antagonizing detoxification pathways in the body, and is thus contraindicated during the use of many kinds of pharm meds. The joint issues are many times a result of some type infection or pathogen. The supplementation of Borax was found to eliminate the painful joints of those infected. Glucosamine & Chondroitin help rebuild the joints.

This is just to let everyone know what I have found out using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and blackstrap molasses to my health routine. I started out with VCO first and used wayy too much. Start small....about 1/2 tsp or so and then increase over time. It detoxed my body too quickly and I felt terrible for over a month. After reading this website, I tried melting my VCO first and adding it with food...worked great!! I'm up to 2tbs. a day and it's fantastic. More energy, skin feels great and stomach doesn't get upset with anything I eat. When I found this website, I started using ACV....found out to start small with that, too. I started with 2tbs. twice a day and should of started with 2 to 3x tsps. a day.Kinda felt bad with that, too at first, so I cut back. Then I read about the blackstrap molasses and tried too much of that, too. Just doing 1 tbs. with 2tbs. of ACV and 1/8tsp. of baking soda at night does wonders for my skin and keeping me regular. When I did the VCO, my skin had alot breakouts, but I perserved and realized that it was detoxing the way it was suppose to. The ACV is great for removing moles....just like everybody said. My best recommendation is to start small and then increase. I love this website.....thank you!!!

I was wondering, can I take grapefruit seed extract and apple cider vinegar together, well not at the exact same time but together in one day ? I am taking 15 drops of GSE 4 times a day (I have athlets foot and allergies) and 2tbs ACV in a liter of water a day(am going to reduce to 2 tsp in 16 oz of water in about a week), and I am also taking 3 tbs of coconut oil a day. Is all this together (taken throughout different times of the day) ok ? I concerned about on cancelling out the other, among other things, Im new at this Thanks!

For your feet, Just use a cup of Clorox, Bleach in a pan of warm water, and soak them for about 10 or 15 minutes a couple times during the week and your Athletes Feet will be gone!! Buy new shoes and always wear white socks, and your problems will be gone. Bleach will kill the fungus.

You can use tea tree oil on feet for athletics foot also- if you don't like the bleach idea... Vinegar may also work I know for cleaning it cleans as well as bleach without being a poison... For that you would have to check with someone else...

Soaking in hydrogen peroxide and water would accomplish the same thing and be MUCH safer than bleach! Bleach is very dangerous and should never touch your skin, because that is similar to drinking it.

Mix 3 cups of white vinegar with a buckle of hot water, add a drop of soap. Then soap for 20-30 mins for 3-5 days. Rinse it. It will cure the atheles feet. It is also good for the skin. Soaping feet before bed is a Chinese anient method for all health purpose. Use a spray bottle for the vinegar water to spray inside the shoes.

ACV, Lemon Juice, Baking Soda +

Posted by Karrie (Birmingham, UK) on 05/16/2022 2 posts

Hello, I'm new to this site but already find it incredibly useful! When I read people's advice on remedies we can use for different ailments, one thing I'm wondering is: how many of these can I add together? Say, someone is recommending apple cider vinegar for acne. Someone else is recommending lemon juice, someone else - baking soda and someone else - coconut oil and yet someone else - honey. What if I take all 5 ingredients and mix them all together to use as one face wash/tonic? Will the effectiveness of each ingredient still be there or do I run the risk of some of them cancelling each other out.. or at least reducing each other's effectiveness? Moreover, is there a risk of this mix being damaging to my face instead of beneficial?

Thank you!

Karrie,

Something to consider is that almost anyone can be allergic to almost anything. In the example you gave, If you were to use all of the remedies together at the same time and you had an allergic reaction, how would you know which remedy caused the problem? You would have to stop everything and recover and then start back one remedy at a time to find out which remedy was the one causing the problem.

On the other hand, let's say that you used all of the remedies simultaneously and your acne got better. How will you know which of the 5 remedies actually worked to get rid of your acne? Do you keep taking the 5 remedies everyday, because you don't know which remedy is actually working?

So unless a specific remedy calls for more than one component, I am of the opinion that it might be more helpful to try one remedy at a time until you find the one that is most effective for you.

I'll give one more scenario for you to consider. Let's go back to your example and let's say the first remedy you try doesn't help, so you discontinue it. Then you try the second remedy and it helps considerably, but does not clear your acne. This is good and you can then try adding one of the other remedies to the one that helped to see if the next remedy may be additive to the second remedy and possibly enough to clear your acne.

I'm not saying this is the only way to do it, just a way that makes sense to me.

Good luck and please update us on how you do!

Thank you, Art. Your reply makes a lot of sense. I think I was seeing remedies as 'magic elixirs' and the more you take of them - the better. But as you say, it makes sense that each one of them could potentially be strong and powerful enough on its own - if it is the right fit for my condition. I will do as you say and try each one at a time for a while to see what's most effective.

ACV, Turmeric, Oil Pulling

Posted by Jeanie (Burlington, Nc) on 02/13/2010

I have read so many great things about apple cider vinegar, turmeric and oil pulling on this site that I just have to try why not what do I have to lose?! But, I have a few questions that I can't seem to find an answer to on this site and I am hoping someone can enlighten me on this subject. Can you take a combination of the three remedies? Would you even want to do that or is it redundant? Do you take these remedies as a lifetime maintenance program or use them as needed? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Jeanie, are you meaning when you say if you can take a combination of the remedies if you can take them at the same time? If you are I would not do oil pulling with ACV because the ACV is meant to be bad for your teeth because of the high acid level in it. There are some members who have posted effects that it has made their gums recede. So I would personally not combine an oil and ACV to swish around the teeth for oil pulling. I would only drink ACV in water through a straw, so contact with teeth is minimum.

Can you take aloe vera and coconut oil at the same time? I don't mean literally together but as a part of the same regimen or should they be separate? I would like to take the aloe for my blood pressure and use the coconut oil to control my weight.

Take them separately, as they compete with one another for absorption. My nutritionist told me to take them at least an hour apart. I do use them both for their respective benefits, first the coconut oil in my morning coffee and then the aloe vera gel about an hour later. Hope this helps.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Posted by Jaques (Brighton, England) on 09/08/2009

its recommended to take your ACV on an empty stomach, so could anyone tell me why then do many people who take it on their meals, i.e. on the salad, have no adverse affects? Does this suggest that drinking it with the bicarb and water and then eating a meal would be ok - this is confusing me a bit.

I have been on acv for GERD which helps for a year but i notice it hasnt brought down my high BP which i am considering taking h202 for, but again, it is on empty stomach - does anyone know if you can mix the two?

Borax, Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda

Please help me. Yesterday I suddenly vomited twice, which is rare for me as I have a stomach of steel. Here is what I am doing, am generally healthy but could lose 50 pounds to be the weight I was in high school long ago. I have 1/8 tsp. of baking soda in a 12 oz glass of water 2 times a day. I have a 1/2 gallon jug of water I put 1/8 tsp. of borax in and I drink from the jug all day long. I also put 1/2 lemon in a 12 oz. glass of hot water with 2 TB ACV and chug the glass down as I do not like the taste. Did I upset my stomach from the ACV drinking too fast, or did I have a reaction to the borax, or is there a vomit side effect from all 3 items? I have been doing this for 3 weeks with no effects. Today nothing as I am afraid to do anything. Help would be greatly appreciated as it sounds like this should be helpful to any body. Thank you, Celia

I sure hope someone replied to you before this. It sounds like you made a classic volcano in your stomach! Have you ever seen what vinegar and baking soda do when combined? You can clean a clogged drain with the combo because it virtually "erupts". You can certainly take both the ACV and the baking soda - just not too closely in time.

You use lemon and 2 T ACV? That seems like a lot of acid to me. Always thought the idea was to use either/or of the two of those. That is, not together. I couldn't even use the ACV without adding 1/4 to 1/2 tsp baking soda to it. If you were doing this all along and only now feel sick from it, maybe you'd been needing the acid and then it eventually balanced out to the point that it's now too much? I dunno, but lemons invariably make me feel ill. Or maybe it had to do with what time you had it, or how close to food.

I love the ACV/soda combination. After it's done fizzing, I add a shot of cranberry juice and then mineral water about 3/4's to the top of 16 oz glass. Tastes yummy :)

Oh, also, they say to shake the ACV bottle before using. And another thought, maybe the ACV had gone bad? It can grow mold after a while. That happened to me, I now keep it in the frig.

I was thinking of trying borax with ac. I am looking online to see different ways of trying borax. I read that it's good for arthritis and ur joints. I also read if u take too much it could make u vomit. I was wondering if u continued with ur mixtures and if u did....how much weight did u lose. I read that borax is just like baking soda. That the government didn't want people to be healing themselves cuz that takes away from them....if u read this, plz respond bake. I want to experiment with borax cuz I read it cures cancer and my sis has cancer and it's getting the best if her. We stopped believing that the Dr knows what he's doing so we're looking into other holistic options

Hi Frances

I have been taking ACV and borax plus baking soda..

1 750 mil bottle

put 4-6 spoons ACV

1/4 spoon of baking soda then fill with water and drink 1 bottle per weekday

None on weekends and start over on Monday. As far as cancer goes, you should buy a bottle of Frankincense Oil. 2 drops in your mouth morning and night. Also if you know where the cancer is rub 2-3 drops morning and night on the area you think it is,

Doing this will definitely help your sister.

God Bless

Some years ago I read a book written by a Vermont Dr. Jarvis. I followed the instructions to drink a mixture of apple cider, and water with my meals to help lose weight. I was very happy with the success I had.

But I have gained weight again in the past few years, and would like to try this diet again. However.. due to a heart problem, I have had surgery to place a stent in my heart, and must take Plavix (blood thinner) as well as 1 aspirin per day.

What I would like to know is if including the ACV back into my diet be safe along with the plavix, and asprin?

Thank You. With much appreciation, Sunny

Hi Sunny, I had the same procedure done in August 2012. If I knew then what I know now, I would have refused the stent. I use ACV (2 Tbsps 2X or 3X per day in an 8 oz. Glass of water (filtered) before my meals. I have replaced the Plavix and the Aspirin with Garlic, Cinnamon, Onions & Cayenne Pepper. I stopped using the hospital's medication 3 weeks after the stent procedure and started following Dr. Linus Pauling's regiment of Vitamin C & Lysine. (Cannot find Proline here in Cape Town). Status of my arteries moved from 50% open to 75% open at my follow-up in October 2012.

WARNING!

After trusting advice for an upset stomach I headed to take a couple TBSP of ACV to rid my upset stomach. I take some expensive highly regulated medications as well. I was NOT informed this should be taken about an hour prior to or longer after taking my prescriptions. I was, however assured, it should be fine to take with meds. In about fifteen to about twenty minutes later experienced horrible swelling of my stomach then explosive vomiting. The vinegar reacted badly to my prescribed meds! Now, I had to wait twelve hours before taking my next dose and that dose I just took was gone! DO TAKE EXTREME CARE IF TAKING MEDS AND ACV CLOSELY TOGETHER! You may suffer. ACV does work when taken properly and not close to ingesting prescription meds.
