Betty - it is true that boric acid is toxic when ingested, but it is NOT when inserted vaginally. there is plenty of research out there, and many standard gynecologists do recommend this as a solution. i know you mean well by warning people about the toxicity of this compound, but your response is so alarmist it is more scary than helpful. you have to ingest a LOT of boric acid for a lethal dose, but ingesting any amount can definitely lead to sickness. as a vaginal suppository, however, the chemical re-balances the pH in there and makes sure to leave no room for the bad stuff (yeast infections, BV). read up on this a little more before scaring everyone away! this can help a LOT of people!
We all should research the things that we put into our bodies in general, and it is wise to do so.

Boric Acid has been recommended by doctors for years and has worked well for me. I bought the medical grade powder from a seller on Ebay and used a teaspoon in 8 ounces of water for douche. It does have a drying effect so I use virgin coconut oil to keep moist because it is antifungal.
Boric Acid kills roaches because it dehydrates them when they ingest it. Since I'm not eating or drinking it, I don't see a problem.

Dear, Betty from Salt Lake, Ut,
First off Wikipedia is a open access public database, which means anyone can post anything on there and it doesn't necessarily mean it is true. In other words it is not a scholarly source. College students are not allowed to use it in their research for that reason.
Second there is validity to what you're saying about the boric acid acid being dangerous but do the research before replying. It is safe to use for the purpose of yeast infections.
Lastly, you wrote that you are all for natural cures (homeopathic medicine). Homeopathy is based on similars. Therefore the treatments are like the problem or illness. One of the main ingredients in many homeopathic preperations is ARSENIC.

Sorry Betty. Dr. Jack Sobel, a leading BV specialist and an infectious disease specialist at Wayne State University, MI with a thriving personal practice of booked clinics prescribes 600 mg '00' boric acid gelatin capsules as a treatment for BV that doesn't respond to drug therapy and for chronic yeast infections (it kills both). Initial treatment involves two capsules, one morning and one night for one week. His clinical research is widely published and greatly respected. He is an authority on a subject that clearly needs greater attention in the medical community.
Compounding pharmacies call this 'an oldie but goodie' remedy for vaginal bacterial infections and those who cannot take azole drugs for yeast infections. It's been used for some time and the medical contradictions are only for those who use it incorrectly (do not ingest it) which is far less than ALL the side effects associated with the current drug therapies. It is well documented in the drug accomanying literature that the most commonly prescribed anti-fungal fluconazole (brand name Diflucan) damages the liver at high enough concentrations from prolonged use and anyone who has taken the antibiotics for BV can attest to the long list of nasty side effects and recurrence.
You wouldn't drink a glass of pure bleach, but to make contaminated water safe to drink, it is added to kill bacteria. This is much the same. Take vaginally; do NOT ingest by mouth.

A reply to Betty from Salt Lake city. You are a little over-reacting about the fact that we are making our own boric acid capsules. The compounding pharmacy does the very same thing we are doing: placing pharmaceutical grade boric acid into empty gel caps. Nothing more complicated and easily replicated at home. Much cheaper too. It is also incorrect that the boric acid we are suggesting is found in the pest control aisle. That is the wrong product, though is does contain boric acid. The correct boric acid is pharmaceutical grade, sold in a pharmacy, in the aisle where the disinfectants are sold. Ours has it beside the alcohol, peroxide, iodine, methylene blue... The fact that it also happens to kill insect is irrelevant. The fact that water is an ingredient in hand sanitizer does make water unsafe.

Look at the CDC website https://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2010/references.htm#a380 search for boric acid.

First, birth control contributes to yeast. If you take it, get off of it, at least for a few months. Antibiotics will not work for yeast! Yeast is fungal, antibiotics kill bacteria, not fungi, and there is a huge difference. Maintaining a diet that is high in vegetables and low in or void of bread and sugar. Yeast survive on what you put into your body. They looove sugar and bread. This includes alcohol, too. Alcohol turns into sugar... Finally, BORIC ACID capsules saved my live! By maintaining a yeast free-sugar free diet and using boric acid vaginal suppositories for 2 months, I am 95% clear. Talk to a doctor about using boric acid. It is safe, natural, and won't affect the balance of your body's natural good bacteria.
Fixing this problem is about restoring a balance of healthy bacteria in your body, not killing all of them with antibiotics. I took 4 rounds of antibiotics for treatment and it only made my symptoms hide for months! If you are headstrong and willing to get rid of this forever, change your diet and use boric acid!

I have had infections for a year. My swabs kept coming up negative for anything. Then we noticed the same funky smell on my husband and when the doctor realized that my husband had yeast as well. We were giving it back to one another. That was problem number 1. So he got treatment for that. But all the yeast treatments I had been using were not helping but irritating me even more. I got the book writtten by a gynecologist called THE V BOOK. It helped me to understand EVERYTHING. There are chemicals in a lot of those over the counter creams as well as lube and ph balancing gels and BV gels that actually have glycerin and lactose in their base.... Which is sugar and makes yeast/BV worse. And also chemicals that make the stinging worse. So even if the infection is gone you could still have allergic type reactions to the products. I tried everything. Even boric acid capsules... That actually burned so badly they bleached my underwear! But I persisted and the doctor finally did a swab and it was super positive for BV and Yeast. SO she put me on Lamisil for 30 days and boric acid (which has a 90% success rate in clinical trials for both yeast and BV). But this time I did it differently. I made icecubes of either pure coconut oil or pure olive oil... I rotated and emptied the small capsule of boric acid to the cube and mixed it up well. I also made regular olive oil ones too. Every night I put one of each in... A boric one and an olive oil one............ Such relief, the cold, the lubrication, the anti inflamatory properties. AMAZING. 14 days... I pushed them high up with old applicators so they wouldn't leak too much. Then I went to bed with a pad on............. Sometimes I had to change it before I fell asleep and sometimes I applied vaseline to avoid vulvar burning. Within 3 days, this depressing, horrible agonizing situation was over. I bought the boric acid BEHIND the counter at the pharmacy. I think you can also buy it in the hardware store or online............ Give it a try. No diet change, husband treated as well and boric acid icecubes! Super cheap and super effective. Don't know if I needed the lamisil but hey it was only 30 days. I think you should try without oral pills first. I do maintenance now when I feel an itch and also back off and stop when it feels like it's burning and not in the yeasty way... Which means I don't need it. Everybody is different, but I implore you to get the book and try the icecubes. And get your partner checked! And the rest is up to your body and how much and how often you need it. Listen to your body it tells you a lot and also knows how to repair itself. Be patient and don't use too many things at once like I did, it just makes matters worse. The V Book explains it all.

I also learned that boric acid is used to get rid of insects and cockroaches ...sprinkle it around the perimeters of the base boards or window sills, ect, anywhere where you see the critters exiting or entering. It's worth a try and not toxic for humans.

For myself and boric acid I do something easier than capsule, I take a soda straw and and shuff it down in the boric acid and drop it in the end of an old applicator I keep along with a little cortizone for quick relief and easy application. Also, did you know that athlete's foot cure is also either miconsole or chlortiromozol as AF is a yeast infection. It's also cheaper to buy than the packaged vaginal yeast infection cure.

One thing though, if you want to really rid yourself of yeast infections, just remember to use the boric acid the whole span of treatment or else the infection will come back. Also NEVER ingest boric acid because it is toxic if ingested!
I was recommended to use it straight as a suppository for a full week, then stagger it every other night, then after a week of that stagger it every two nights, etc; until you don't use it at all.
Boric acid is antibacterial, but it doesn't kill the strains as well as antibiotic medicines (like metronidazole).
I am very excited to try the folic acid tx for my BV. I'll let you know if it works for me!
