How would I administer the borax in catfood? You mentioned your dog takes 1/8 tsp. In a liter of water. That's great for dogs, but not so much for cats who are notorious for not drinking water. Thank you so much for your invaluable help.

Ted, AND whoever else has done the Borax cure- is it suppose to be pasty? watery (I havent done it yet- finding out everything before doing it to my dog)
Also, do I keep her indoors, or outdoors, I don't mind either way, but just need to know what is better (she is housebroken thank god), is it a good idea to get a cone, so she cant lick herself?
Also, last one, is it safe to put on her face/head... only place she has no D-mites is in her ears... But otherwise she is a walking outbreak (almost $250 later, and vet didnt help)
Please, I definately want to help my poor girl out

My old shepherd got her treatment yesterday on the lawn which made it really easy for both of us. I used ACV instead of H202. The mixture was watery with a lot of borax undissolved on the bottom of the dish. After all this scratching and agony she lay still and fell into a deep sleep right afterwards.
My sprayer did not work so I just poured the solution on her and rubbed it into her skin. She never tried to lick herself which amazed me.
Will repeat again till all the itching stops. She had no lesions, only dry, itchy skin.
Some of the solution will be kept for ear mites for the cats and some more for my itchy face. While I was working on her, a bug bit me and I put the solution on the bite, instant relief. So I know my dog must have been totally relieved after the months long torture. This is how I tried her medication on myself, great.
This, being summertime, was very easy but NEVER leave your wet dog out in cold weather. You could lose your dog to pneumonia.

We rescued a 3 month old pup from the Dominican and what we thought were irritations and scabs from a flea infestation turned out to be Sarcoptic mange. She is being treated with Revolution, as are my other 2 dogs, but I'd like to do the Borax dip on all and find out what to use to clean the areas the dog has been (bed, crate, carpet etc. )
Can you tell me the proportions to use and how frequently... Also anyone know how long she needs to be isolated from the other dogs and us? She is so pitiful all alone in the other room :(

Just wondering if you have any experience with a lime/sulfur dip for mange? I am having trouble with mites and am not positive it is mange, as I can see the mites easily, and they are about the size of a coffee ground with a nasty bite. I have dogs, cats, goats and chickens, not to mention wild things, like coyotes and bobcats. Suggestions? I tried the borax and H202 and still am plagued. Thanks for any advice.

I'm so grateful my friend said that's not fleas that's mange!! I just applied 1/2 cup peroxide, 1 cup water and ran to the store and found borax. I mixed the solution and its not pasty but gritty. My Pomeranian is 4, we've never had fleas but this? Wow! She's nearly bald on her back, horrid scaps across her back and to tail and scratches all day! I've done every flea remedy known to man and daily she's worse. Anyway I applied it and while she's not happy she hasn't scratched once. I heard using olive oil to help the skin is good. Ted what do you think? Should I drop borax onto our carpet and let sit then vacuum? I heard that we can get it from them and is scabies? What do you think? She's so severe should I do daily or every other until improvement? Bless you so much. I'm NOT working and can't afford huge vet bills.

Hi all, It seems difficult to find 20 Mule Borax brand here but I manage to find the brand Three Elephant Borax. My question is will it be ok to substitute the 20 Mule with Three Elephant Borax? Are they the same in terms of effectiveness? Hope to hear from you soon so that I can start treating my poor dog. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Apple Cider Vinegar, the one with the mother in it? I would do a water and ACV combo half and half and get a spray bottle and spray him at least 3 times a day. This should keep the ph level at a level that nothing can grow within that environment. I hope that helps if you haven't alady tried it. Good luck and I am sorry they are suffering...

Check your dog food for corn. Corn heats up their system and causes them to chew and itch. It is twice as bad in warmer climates. I feed a lamb and rice dog food with no corn and wheat. Nature's Recipe is one to try. Good luck!
P.S. you can also add a couple of squirts of Lynatone (vitamin e oil) to their food for much needed oil back in the skin and coat. You can buy at most pet stores and feed stores.

Yes, I was wondering about the message someone else left about treating their dog with the borax and after 2 weeks there was no improvement. I also have tried the peroxide and borax, with no improvement. So I got some ac vinegar, only seen improvement the day of use, but next again the bumps were back. My question I guess is how long before I see that its working? Also she (my dog) just finished her medicine of ivermec from the vet. I'm desperate to help my furry family member, im talking about the dog not my 17 year old.

I have a dog that is about a year old, large mixed breed, looks like a visla lab mix, reddish orange fur and very pink skin. He has mange all over his body from the feet to the belly and sides and legs and around the eyes and mouth. I am using Ted's Treatment Borax and Hydrogen Peroxide and water solution but am concerned with the mouth and the eye areas. My dog only has a couple very small areas where a scab or sore has developed, but the areas around the mouth and eyes seem more inflamed as well as around his genital area. Overall the dog just has hair density loss and some slightly proud red flesh around the genitals and the mouth and underarms. We have been doing the treatment for about 8-10 days. 2 on 1 off due to my work schedule away from home overnight. He seems to be itching less and responding well but we do not see major improvement as of yet.
My questions are is there an additional treatment I can do around the mouth, eyes and genitals where the flesh has less hair that might be more adhesive to the skin or do you think the borax mix will do the trick? Also I saw some posts on giving some borax in the water is this safe or possible as far as you know.
I appreciate any advice or direction you can give me. Mange is new to me and I know red dogs have a more sensitive skin and fur and the coat shows greater irritation. I just want to make sure I am on the right track as not to let it worsen.

Hi, I have the same problem and I have tried mixing Vaseline, baby oil and flowers of sulphur in a very runny paste and applied it to my small dogs tail area with good result. Mix one part of the 'flowers of sulphur" and two parts vaseline and then add baby oil to thin the whole lot for easy application.

I thought this just meant she had been a pampered pooch but as I believe bathing so often would strip her natural oils we didn't keep this up. Within months she was scratching, wriggling on her back, rubbing up against us and the furniture and took the best relief rubbing along some crappy woodchip paper we have in the hall!
I took to brushing her regularly, spraying her with various soothing oils, trying different foods etc. All of which seemed to ease what we thought was just an ongoing sensitive skin issue.
We've had humid weather which encouraged a nasty flea explosion and with having another boxer male and two cats you can imagine the sheer amount of flea treatments we've been through. My boxer male also had ear mites which were treated and cleared up without appearing to spread to the other animals but last week the bitch went downhill dramatically with hair falling out, hot spots and incessant itching and flaking skin.
I hit the internet and found this site. From all the info here - and the fact that none of the other animals are experiencing her particular problems - I've deduced that she definitely has a mite infestion of some kind if not demodectic mange.
Slathering her in mayonnaise resulted in tell-tale bumps and so I decided to try this cure. I got 200ml 6% Hydrogen Peroxide from the local pharmacy (99p) which I've reduced to a 1% solution - as per the pharmacist's instructions - by mixing 1 part peroxide to 3 parts distilled water. The distilled water I obtained from my condenser dryer (of all places) and 200ml of this solution added to 2 tablespoons of Borax - obtained on Ebay. Co.Uk (2kg for around £9 inc. postage) - gives me the right mix.
Mixing up 1 litre of the solutions therefore costs around £1.10 and - applied with a spray bottle to drench and spot treat my medium sized boxer - I reckon there is enough in that for 3 treatments.
I completely soaked her in the solution yesterday, she calmed down immediately and slept most of the day. The relief from the itching must have heavenly.
I've drenched her again today and intend to do this every day for a week then bathe her with Head & Shoulders dandruff shampoo and give a day off.
I've also taken photos to compare "before & after". As she's a brindle her coat makes getting a clear photo nigh on impossible but her belly - once covered with dark downy hair - is bald, sore, flaky and pink so will provide the best example.
I appreciate there are no guarantees but I'm encouraged by the testamonials here and curious to see how she goes. I will post back with an update next week.

hi, I'm trying the borax h2o2 solution for about a week now. I'm doing the head and shoulder wash and rinse and then the borax h2o2 solution via spray not having much success. The only h2o2 available comes in 120ml bottle 20 volume, please could some1 tell me what % this is and how to dilute to 1%. I am using 4 h2o2 bottles + 20 ml to make 500 ml of h2o2 and then adding 2.5 lt of warm water and 10 tablespoons of borax and resting this mix for ten minutes. I leave this on the dog to dry overnight. Please help what am I doing wrong. Thanx

Hi, have you checked your pharmacy or grocery store for 3% peroxide in the wound section? All stores here in the USA carry 3% so I am surprised to hear that you can only find 20%. What do people in Pakistan sterilize their wounds with? Your measurements sound right to me. Sorry, I do not know why it isn't working. Maybe someone else who has treated mange will know.

I'm not sure if you've resolved your issues but in reading this I' m afraid when you say 20 volume you may be confused and using peroxide meant for hair color developing and not hydrogen peroxide as the previous poster reminded you and is usually referred to in 20, 30, 40 volume. The hydrogen peroxide antiseptic is typically 3% stabilized solution in a purified water base and is used as a disinfectant. The hair developer is a bleaching agent when mixed with haircolor and isn't what you need.

Hey my dog has d mange. I did the borax/peroxide bath. Also added tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in her water at night. There's one spot that she's losing hair above her eye. Each time I bathe her I leave that Area covered ith the treatment, then massage it in.
But it's getting worse. The spot is getting bigger. I started giving her vitamin c to build her immune, along with a change of dog food. Help! I want her to be healed. J

Speedy and dramatic recovery. Ollie was a stray who showed up a month ago with fairly severe sarcoptic mange. Dramatic and speedy recovery using Ted's basic treatment. Ollie weighed 41 lbs when we found him - used a mixture of 2 c hydrogen peroxide, 4 c water, 2/3 c borax. After shampooing and rinsing, used the entire amount to rinse again, making sure to use get the underside of his body.
Did the treatment every 3 days for the first two weeks, then once a week.
